Brevard's bats baffled by Bradenton 'Tees strike out 14 times in 4-1 loss to Marauders By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees BRADENTON, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees dropped its first game of inter-division play in 2013 as they were defeated 4-1, by the Bradenton Marauders on Sunday evening at McKechnie Field in Bradenton. The 'Tees (12-11) were held in check offensively by Bradenton (8-15) starting pitcher Nick Kingham. Kingham threw six shutout innings and allowed just three hits, while setting a new single-game Marauders' record with 13 strikeouts. The Marauders got on the board first in the fifth inning. Willy Garcia led off the frame by reaching on an infield single and then advancing to second on a throwing error by shortstop Yadiel Rivera. Two batters later, Taylor Lewis singled to right to plate Garcia and Garcia advanced to third on a fielding error by right fielder Dionis Hinojosa. Manatees starting pitcher David Goforth (1-3, 2.74) was able to get out of the jam as Lewis was retired at third on a fielder's choice and then Alex Hanson popped out to Cameron Garfield to end the inning. Goforth went six innings and allowed just the one unearned run on four hits and two walks. In the last five games, Manatees' starting pitchers have allowed just one earned run in 28 innings of work. Bradenton padded its lead against Brevard's bullpen as a two-out double by Carlos Mesa off of Andre Lamontagne in the seventh made it a 2-0 game. The Marauders scored two more off of Matt Miller in the eighth on four hits. From the first to the eighth inning, the Manatees had just three runners get past first base. Brevard County scored its only run in the top of the ninth on a RBI double from Cody Hawn. Hawn along with Garfield had two hits each in the loss for the 'Tees. Garfield is hitting .368 (7-for-19) in his last five games. Brevard County and Bradenton will be back in action at McKechnie Field on Monday night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Southpaw Brent Suter (0-1, 1.80 with Class-A Wisconsin) will be getting the start in his debut for the Manatees. The Marauders will send Matt Benedict (0-3, 3.66) to the mound.

Final: Brevard County 1 Bradenton 4 Bradenton Game Story Bradenton, Fla. - Nick Kingham (W, 2-2) set a new Marauders' franchise record by striking out 13 Brevard County Manatees in a 4-1 Marauders win. Kingham accomplished the feat in six scoreless innings, yielding only three singles, and no walks. Kingham started the game with three swinging strikeouts in the first inning. He surrendered back-to-back singles in the second inning, but with two on and nobody out he got a fly out from Yadiel Rivera, then struck out two more Manatees. He proceeded to strike out two batters in each inning before being lifted after six. Of the 13 strikeouts, 10 were swinging and three were looking. The previous record was held by Matt McSwain, who struck out 11 Jupiter Hammerheads over six innings on April 18, 2011. The record 12th strikeout for Kingham came on a controversial check-swing foul tip call on Brevard County leadoff man Brandon Macias for the first out of the sixth inning. Macias checked his swing, but after the umpires conferenced they ruled that the ball had contacted the bat and been caught by Jacob Stallings. After a fly out by Greg Hopkins, Nick Ramirez went down swinging for the 13th strikeout. David Goforth (L, 1-3) matched zeroes with Kingham until the fifth. Willy Garcia singled in the infield to lead off the inning and moved to second on a throwing error on the play. Taylor Lewis singled home Garcia. It was the first time the Marauders had scored the first run at home in 12 tries this season. Carlos Mesa added an RBI-double off Andre LaMontagne in the seventh to stretch the lead to 2-0. Jose Osuna and Garcia each drove in a run in the eighth to stretch the lead to 4-0. The Manatees scored and put the tying runs on against Zac Fuesser in the ninth, but Emmanuel De Leon induced a game ending 6-4-3 double play from Chadwin Stang to end the game. Game two of the series is Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Matt Benedict will start for the Marauders against Brent Suter for Brevard County. Brevard County Box Score Brevard hitters struck out 14 times in this one, while walking just twice. Brandon Macias and Nick Ramirez each fanned three times. As a team the Manatees have whiffed 207 times through the first 23 games. That far and away leads the Florida State League. Cameron Garfield was on base three times. He singled twice and drew a walk. Cody Hawn was 2-4 with a double. Greg Hopkins, Chadwin Stang and John Dishon had the other BC hits. Stang stole his eighth base and Dishon recorded another outfield assist. Garfield, Dionis Hinojosa and Yadiel Rivera each committed an error. Rivera had 22 errors in 126 games last year. This year he already has 10 through the first 23 games. David Goforth deserved a better fate. He gave up just one unearned run in six innings of work. He struck out four. Andre Lamontagne allowed one run in an inning of work, and Matt Miller surrendered two runs, one earned, on four hits in his inning. Brevard County Play-By-Play The Manatees loaded up the bases in the ninth and had the go-ahead run at the plate, but could only push across one run Brevard County Top of the 9th Gregory Hopkins singles on a ground ball to third baseman Benji Gonzalez. Nick Ramirez lines out to center fielder Gregory Polanco. Cameron Garfield walks. Gregory Hopkins to 2nd. Cody Hawn doubles (3) on a fly ball to center fielder Gregory Polanco. 'Tees can't sweep Jays, fall in extras Brevard rallies to tie game in eighth, but loses 5-3 in ten By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - After rallying to tying the game in the eighth inning, the Brevard County Manatees' bid to sweep the first place Dunedin Blue Jays was thwarted thanks to two runs in the top of the tenth in a 5-3 defeat on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. Dunedin (15-7) relied on a strong pitching performance from 2011 American League All-Star Ricky Romero, who was making his first start at any level this season. The lefty allowed just one run after Brandon Macias tripled and scored to give the Manatees (12-10), a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Macias finished with four hits to match a career-high, including three off of Dunedin's starter. Romero was lifted after seven innings with no walks, yielding only five hits while he struck out four hitters in the no-decision. Brooks Hall (2-1, 1.59) also did not factor into the decision, though the only two runs he allowed were recorded as unearned. He scattered three hits and walked a season-high four batters with two strikeouts. Both runs came across when K.C. Hobson smashed a grounder past first baseman Nick Ramirez, who was charged with an error on the play. Dunedin extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the eighth, when Andy Burns doubled, stole third and then scored on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of that inning, Dionis Hinojosa led off with a walk followed by a John Dishon walk. They executed a double steal with Greg Hopkins at the plate before Hopkins drove them in with a single to center to tie the game. On to the tenth, Hopkins also made a stellar leaping grab to rob Matt Newman of a base hit for the second out with the bases loaded. However, Marcus Knecht made up for it with a two-run double to make it 5-3. Tyler Cravy took the loss as he allowed 2 runs in 1.1 innings, as Kevin Shackelford allowed the double to Knecht that allowed the runners he inherited from Cravy to score. Brevard County will hit the road for a seven-game road trip that begins on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. for the first of four games against the Bradenton Marauders (7-15). David Goforth (1-2, 3.71), who was roughed up in his last start, will toe the rubber for the 'Tees. The Marauders will counter with Nick Kingham (1-2, 3.92) on the mound. Brevard Audio Highlights

Final: Dunedin 3 Brevard County 4 Brevard holds off Dunedin for 4-3 win Gagnon earns first victory of 2013 as Jays rally falls short By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - For the second straight night, a three-run sixth inning was just enough offense for the Brevard County Manatees as they topped the first place Dunedin Blue Jays, 4-3 on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium. Brevard County (12-9) jumped on Dunedin (14-7) starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez early with a run in the first inning - one that proved to be crucial to the win - as Nick Ramirez drove in Chadwin Stang with a one-out single. Once Sanchez settled down, he allowed just one base runner between the second inning and the fifth inning. His leadoff walk to Nick Ramirez in the sixth though brought an end his evening. Cameron Garfield greeted reliever Tyler Ybarra with a first-pitch triple that scored Ramirez, marking the second three-bagger of the game for the Manatees after Yadiel Rivera went tripled in the fourth. Back-to-back walks to Brandon Macias, who was put on intentionally, and Rivera loaded the bases for Lance Roenicke. Roenicke brought one run in with a sacrifice fly and allowed Macias to move to third. Macias then scored what would be the eventual game winning run on a passed ball. With the 'Tees leading 4-0, Tommy Toledo entered the game in the eighth inning with runners on first and second with just one out and had no trouble getting out of the frame. However, he would have more trouble in the ninth when he issued a walk and consecutive singles to load the bases. Seth Harvey came on and allowed a quick two-run single to Nick Baligod to make it a 4-2 game. Jon Berti followed with another RBI single and then a fly out to right enabled Baligod, who represented the tying run, to advance to third. Harvey would leave him stranded at third as he forced Andy Burns to fly out to center to end the game. For Harvey, it was his second save in as many nights and fifth of the season. Drew Gagnon (1-2, 7.36) turned in his best performance of the season as he went 5.1 scoreless frames for his first victory of 2013. He allowed only two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Brevard County will go for the three-game sweep of the first place Blue Jays on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The Manatees will send Brooks Hall (2-1, 2.01) to the hill, while Dunedin will counter with 2011 American League All-Star Ricky Romero. The Blue Jays southpaw will be making his first start of the season since being optioned to the minors by Toronto following the end of spring training. Brevard County Box Score Very good pitching performance for the first eight innings tonight. Almost gave it all back in the ninth but Seth Harvey was able to finish it for his fifth save. Drew Gagnon with his best start of the season, went 5.1 and gave up just two hits while striking out five. Chad Pierce tossed two scoreless. Nick Ramirez had another good night at the plate, going 2-3 with a walk. That's multi-hit games in four of his last five. Cameron Garfield also had a two hit night, going 2-4 with a triple. Final: Dunedin 2 Brevard County 3 'Tees edge first-place Jays Three-run sixth propels Brevard past Dunedin, 3-2 By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Three runs - all scored in the sixth inning - were enough to get the Brevard County Manatees and starting pitcher Jed Bradley a win on Thursday night, taking a 3-2 decision from the Dunedin Blue Jays. Coming off of a seven-game road trip that saw the 'Tees (11-9) go 3-4, the Manatees fell behind early to Dunedin (14-6), as the Blue Jays struck first in the first inning. A leadoff walk followed by back-to-back singles to score a run before an out was recorded. A double play behind Bradley settled him down, and he was able to take care of business the next two innings. Dunedin's only other run, was an unearned run that came in the fourth. Derrick Chung reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in the second out, then advanced on a wild pitch and scored from second on a throwing error by shortstop Yadiel Rivera. With Dunedin starting pitcher Jesse Hernandez needing just 48 pitches to plow through the first five innings, John Dishon took the 49th pitch and deposited it over the left field fence for his first home run of the season to make it a 2-1 game. Two batters later, Greg Hopkins doubled and then Nick Ramirez followed with a walk. Both runners then advanced on a passed ball and reigning FSL Player of the Week Cameron Garfield would bring them both home with a two-run single that signaled the end of the night for Hernandez. Brevard County threatened with runners on first and second in the seventh and then loaded the bases in the eighth, but didn't score. That would not matter as the bullpen trio of Andre Lamontagne, Kevin Shackelford and Seth Harvey shut the door over the final three innings. Harvey struck out the side in the ninth for his fourth save of the year. Bradley (2-1, 3.45) finished with four strikeouts and scattered six hits, while walking two in his six innings of work. Of the two runs that Bradley allowed, just one was earned. The Manatees will attempt to inch closer to Dunedin for first place in the North Division on Friday night at 6:35 p.m., when Drew Gagnon (0-2, 9.72) will oppose Blue Jays righty Aaron Sanchez (1-0, 1.35). Audio Highlights Jays can't withstand 'Tees 6th inn. rally RHP Jesse Hernandez was cruising with a 2-0 lead through five innings, but Brevard County's bats came alive late By Tyler Murray / Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin, FL - For the first half of Thursday's game against the Brevard County Manatees, the Dunedin Blue Jays looked poised for yet another series-opening victory. Then they hit the bottom of the sixth inning. RHP Jesse Hernandez (L, 2-3) had allowed just three hits through five scoreless innings, but came unraveled in the sixth. Leading 2-0 and needing just three outs to lock down his fourth quality start of the season, Hernandez allowed a leadoff homer to nine hitter John Dishon. Gregory Hopkins then lined a one-out double to left, and after a walk and a passed ball, reigning FSL Player of the Week Cameron Garfield smacked a two-RBI single to center, putting the Manatees on top for good, 3-2. Dunedin started out hot, plating a first-inning run after 2B Jon Berti led off the game with a walk, and SS Peter Mooney followed with a single before 3B Andy Burns knocked in his 13th run of the season with a base hit of his own. The Blue Jays made it a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning thanks Yadiel Rivera's eighth error of the season. With two outs and C Derrick Chung on second, CF Matt Newman grounded one into the shortstop hole, which Rivera fielded and threw off-balance to first. Nick Ramirez could not handle the tough hop, and Newman reached safely as Chung came all the way around to score. Aside from a few early struggles, RHP Jed Bradley (W, 2-1) logged his best start of the season, holding the D-Jays to one earned run in six innings on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. RHP Seth Harvey (S, 4) struck out the side in order in the ninth to close out the victory. RHP Aaron Sanchez (1-0, 3.05 ERA) will look to even the series tomorrow as he faces RHP Drew Gagnon (0-2, 9.72) in another 6:35 p.m. start. Brevard County Box Score Good outing for Jed Bradley. Steinbrenner Field. Chad Pierce came out of the bullpen for 'Tees (10-9) in the bottom of the ninth and proceded to walk the leadoff man Feliz on five pitches. A successful sacrifice bunt by Francisco Arcia set up Sosa's heroics. Sosa's game-winning double went right past the diving Brandon Macias at third. Hawn walked with one out before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Macias grounded an RBI single to right field that scored Hawn before Macias was tagged out in a rundown. Final: Brevard County 1 Tampa 12 Brevard County Box Score The Yankees only had one more hit than the Manatees, yet scored 11 more runs. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) TAMPA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees banged out 13 hits in an 8-3 win over the Tampa Yankees on Sunday evening at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The 'Tees (10-7) took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With runners on the corners and two outs, Dionis Hinojosa beat out a potential double play ball to score Cameron Garfield and break the scoreless tie. Adrian Williams then looped an RBI single down the right field line to score Yadiel Rivera. Rivera went 3-for-4 with three singles and three runs scored in the ballgame. Brevard County extended the lead in the fourth inning. Cody Hawn and Rivera led off with back-to-back singles. That put runners on the corners for Lance Roenicke, whose ground out to third base and allowed Hawn to score. With Rivera on second, Hinojosa laced an RBI triple in the left-center field gap to give the Manatees a comfortable 4-0 lead. Later in the frame, Chadwin Stang beat out an infield single that scored Hinojosa with two outs to make it 5-0. Brevard County starting pitcher Brooks Hall (2-1, 2.01) was dominant on the mound en route to the victory. He allowed just one run on two hits over six innings of work. He struck out three and retired eight Tampa (8-9) hitters in a row at one point. Yankees' starter Corey Black (1-1, 4.79) suffered the loss. He lasted just 4.2 innings and gave up seven runs - four of which were earned - on 11 hits. Final: Brevard County 3 Clearwater 6 'Tees topped again by Threshers Brevard loses consecutive games for first time since opening weekend By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees CLEARWATER, Fla. - For the first time since opening weekend, the Brevard County Manatees have dropped consecutive contests as they were defeated 6-3 by the Clearwater Threshers on Saturday night at Bright House Field in Clearwater. Clearwater threatened right away in the first with runners on second and third and just one out, but Lance Roenicke showed off his arm after catching a ball in foul territory. Carlos Alonso tried tagging up from third, but a dart down the line from Roenicke just beat him with the double play ending the opening frame. In the second inning, the Threshers would get on the board first as Aaron Altherr took a walk and stole second before scoring on a Brock Stassi single. Brevard County (9-7) didn't allow that lead to last long though as the first four batters in the top of the third all reached for the Manatees. Roenicke's double after fouling off seven straight pitches brought home Yadiel Rivera, with the left fielder advancing to third on the throw home. Roenicke was then tagged out at home in a rundown in on a Dionis Hinojosa fielder's choice, the Manatees were still able to put runners on second and third with just one out but could not score again and the game remained tied at 1-1. Manatees starting pitcher Drew Gagnon entered the sixth inning with six strikeouts including three in the fifth, but things began to unravel in the sixth. The Threshers (8-8) were able to bat around and score five runs in the inning to take a 6-1 lead. Gagnon allowed two singles, a double, a walk and a wild pitch, en route to two runs before he was removed from the game. Stephen Peterson came on from the bullpen with one out and allowed the fielder's choice that scored a run. Next, Altherr knocked a single to center that allowed Perkins to score, but Altherr tried to advance on the throw home and when Rafael Neda tried to cut him down at second, his throw sailed deep into center field. Altherr was then able to score and was then followed by a Brock Stassi triple before Peterson caught Logan Moore looking to finally end the inning. Overall, Gagnon (0-2, 9.72) was charged with five runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out six. Clearwater starting pitcher Hoby Milner allowed only one run on five hits, as he fanned five in six innings. Brevard County battled back in the ninth with Greg Hopkins taking a leadoff walk and Brandon Macias advancing him to third with a two-out single. Hopkins crossed the plate on a passed ball that also put Macias in scoring position and Hopkins then scored on a Rafael Neda single. The Manatees will look to get back on track as they open a three-game series with the Tampa Yankees (8-8) on Sunday beginning at 5:00 p.m. at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Pregame coverage and the beginning of the game from the Manatees Radio Network will be available on ManateesBaseball.com, before AM 1300 WMEL joins the broadcast in progress. Brevard County Box Score The Manatees offense managed just one extra base hit in this one; a double off the bat of left fielder Lance Roenicke. Greg Hopkins was on base twice with a single and a walk. Chadwin Stang singled and stole his sixth base of the year. Rafael Neda, catching just his fourth game, had an RBI single but also a throwing error. Yadiel Rivera, Brandon Macias and Cameron Garfield had the other three base hits for Brevard. Drew Gagnon pitched five pretty good innings, but then ran in to trouble in the sixth. His final line was 5.1 innings, 5 runs, all earned, on six hits. He walked two and struck out six. Stephen Peterson was charged with one run in 1.2 innings, and Matt Miller worked a scorless frame for the second time in as many outings. Final: Brevard County 1 Clearwater 13 Brevard County bitten by Threshers Manatees suffer worst loss of year in 13-1 drubbing By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/7/4/45265574/cuts/Garfield_4.5_f8xrpwts_q0ymgijc.JPG Manatees catcher Cameron Garfield hit his fifth homer of the season on Friday night in a 13-1 loss to the Clearwater Threshers at Bright House Field. Garfield is currently tied with Miguel Sano of the Fort Myers Miracle atop the Florida State League's home run leader board. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) CLEARWATER, Fla. - Five runs in the first inning were more than enough for the Clearwater Threshers to wipe out the Brevard County Manatees on Friday night, but they went on to score another eight in the fifth inning to defeat the 'Tees 13-1 at Bright House Field. The game marked the largest margin of defeat for Brevard County this season. Manatees starter Jed Bradley (1-1, 4.66) couldn't make it out of the first inning as he gave up a total of five runs before he was lifted with two outs on the board. Just two of those runs were earned though due to a pair of errors committed by Yadiel Rivera. Bradley walked three and yielded three hits and did not record a strikeout. Chad Pierce entered in relief and walked a man before getting out of the opening frame with the bases still loaded. Cameron Garfield provided the lone bright spot for Brevard County (9-6), smashing his fifth home run of the season, which ties him for tops in the Florida State League, to lead off the second inning. His teammates threatened to add more behind him, though a Brandon Macias double and a Rivera walk provided no runs. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch, but Threshers (7-8) southpaw Nick Hernandez (2-0, 2.12) stranded them there. In the fifth inning, the Threshers sent twelve men to the plate, with eight of the nine men in the order scoring a run. Following a one-out walk, Clearwater rattled off five straight hits that included two doubles. A fielder's choice and another error allowed each of the next two batters to reach base before a two-run double capped off the scoring. Each starter in the batting order for Clearwater recorded a base hit, with Jose Mojica's three leading the way. Hernandez's only run allowed was Garfield's shot and he gave up just four hits overall. He also struck out seven batters and walked only one in six innings of work. Saturday night features the rubber match of the series, as Brevard County righty Drew Gagnon (0-1, 10.32) and Clearwater lefty Hoby Milner (0-2, 13.97) square off beginning at 6:30 p.m. Pregame audio coverage on ManateesBaseball.com begins at 6:00 p.m. in the final game of the three-game set, before the Manatees move on to Tampa for a three-game set with the Yankees. Brevard County Box Score Cameron Garfield homered for the second night in a row. It was his fifth of the season, and fifth in the past ten games. He also picked off a runner which was great to see, as if he can be even average defensively, he could be a legit catching prospect for the Brewers. Chadwin Stang stayed hot at the top of the order with another two hit night. That's a seven game hitting streak for Stang. He has had multi-hit games in five of those seven. Brandon Macias had a double, while Nick Ramirez and Lance Roenicke each chipped in a single for the other Brevard hits. Not a great night for Jed Bradley. He couldn't even get out of the first inning, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks. Bradley didn't get much help behind him as only two of the runs were earned following a couple of errors. Chad Pierce and Tyler Cravy didn't fare any better. Pierce gave up four runs in 3.2 innings and Cravy allowed four runs (two earned) in 1.2 innings. Tommy Toledo and Seth Harvey each pitched a scoreless inning. Yadiel Rivera was charged with a pair of errors and Brandon Macias had one as well. Final: Lakeland 5 Brevard County 6 (14 Innings) 'Tees win on wild walk-off in 14 innings Garfield homers twice as Brevard rallies to top Lakeland By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/4/8/45018548/cuts/Garfield_4.17_bn98ubll_0e0xg25e.JPG Manatees catcher Cameron Garfield hit two home runs, including a two-run shot to tie the game in the eighth inning, as Brevard County defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 6-5 in 14 innings on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. VIERA, Fla. - A thrilling extra-inning affair came to a strange ending on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium as the Brevard County Manatees outlasted the Lakeland Flying Tigers in 14 innings for a 6-5 victory. Heads-up base running and a powerless battery brought pinch runner Adrian Williams around from first to third on two passed balls. Lakeland catcher Jeff Ferrell then lost control of an intentional ball four to Cody Hawn that allowed Williams to jog home safely. Hawn got the scoring starting for the Manatees (7-5) with a solo homer leading off the second, but the see-saw battle commenced with a pair of unearned runs on the first of a season-high four errors committed by Brevard County on the night in the top of the third. Brandon Loy took three bases out of the box on a ball that blew out over Dionis Hinojosa's head to the right field wall that let Chad Wright score from first. A similar play happened in center field to open the eighth, as Chadwin Stang couldn't quite get to a ball off of Eugenio Suarez's bat. The Lakeland (4-8) shortstop later scored the third unearned run of the night against Brevard County and extended the Flying Tigers lead to two runs. The other two Manatee errors were charged to Yadiel Rivera, who entered the game with a clean sheet for the season and had recorded the most assists of any Major or Minor League player. With the 'Tees trailing 2-1 into the fourth, Garfield walked then later scored on a Brandon Macias sacrifice fly to tie it up. Lakeland reclaimed the lead, plus an extra run in the top of the sixth, with three straight singles to start off the frame followed by a wild pitch and the first of Rivera's miscues. Garfield answered back and cut the deficit to 4-3 as he led off the bottom half of the sixth with a solo home run. After the unearned run in the top of the eighth, Garfield tied it up at 5-5 with his second homer of the game, a two¬-run blast. Manatees' starting pitcher Brooks Hall (1-1, 1.64) was pulled after 5.1 innings, over which he scattered seven hits and was charged with four total runs. Only two of those were earned and he struck out three batters with no walks. The Flying Tigers again used multiple relievers for multiple innings after the bullpen was asked to pitch 7.2 innings on Monday night. Brevard County also used multiple relievers for more than a single inning, sending Tyler Cravy out for two innings in which he allowed an unearned run. Lefty Stephen Peterson then threw 3.2 frames of two-hit ball and Tommy Toledo would follow him for a pair of innings with a pair of walks. Seth Harvey earned the win after yielding a hit and a walk with one strikeout in one inning. The two squads will meet again on Wednesday at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland to close out the three-game series. David Goforth (0-1, 3.60) will toe the rubber for the Manatees, while the Flying Tigers will send Wilsen Palacios (0-1, 6.00) to the hill. Final: Clearwater 1 Brevard County 2 'Tees edge Threshers to take series Roenicke's homer the difference in 2-1 win over Clearwater By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - A dogged determination by the Brevard County Manatees' pitching staff helped the home team to a 2-1 win over the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday evening at Space Coast Stadium. Lance Roenicke's home run into the left field bullpen in the bottom of the seventh off of Luis Paulino, snapped a 1-1 tie and proved to be all that Brevard County (6-4) would need to pull out the victory. In his first start of the year, Chad Pierce (1-0, 2.70) went a hard-fought five innings, in which he only allowed two hits and one run. He also rung up six batters and issued only one walk. Mark Williams was credited with the win as the pitcher of record as he threw three scoreless innings. He pitched his way into and out of both a jam with runners on second and third with nobody out and then one with the bases loaded and nobody out. Stephen Peterson pitched a perfect ninth for his first save. Clearwater (5-5) got on the board first in the fourth inning as Jonathan Roof led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and then scored on a Cameron Perkins single. Brevard County answered right back though to tie the game at 1-1, after Cameron Garfield set himself up to score with his second career triple. Brandon Macias provided the sacrifice fly that allowed Garfield to cross the plate. Starting pitcher Nick Hernandez also had a strong outing for the Threshers and did not factor in the decision as he gave up just the one run and four hits in his six innings of work. The lefty struck out seven batters and walked only one. With the win, the Manatees have won two straight series and will again take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers (3-7) for a three-game set, beginning on Monday night at 6:35 p.m. in Viera. Brevard County's Drew Gagnon (0-1, 12.28) and Lakeland's Thomas Collier (0-0, 7.27) will square off in a rematch of starting pitchers from last Wednesday's game in Lakeland that saw the Manatees come out on top by the score of 7-6. Final: Clearwater 2 Brevard County 10 Ramirez, Brevard blast Threshers 'Tees slugger hits two homers in 10-2 rout By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Behind Nick Ramirez's two home runs, the Brevard County Manatees posted their best offensive showing of the young season in a 10-2 win over the Clearwater Threshers at Space Coast Stadium on Saturday night. Brevard County (5-4) had the leadoff man reach base safely six out of eight times and that started right away in the first inning. Chadwin Stang notched his first of two hits on the night and then scored on a Cameron Garfield double. A five-run second inning saw every Manatee run score with two outs on the board. Brandon Macias scored on a Dionis Hinojosa single to start the rally. Stang then walked and came across on a Greg Hopkins double and Hopkins was brought home by Ramirez's first long ball of the night to make it a 6-0. Clearwater's (5-4) only two runs in the game were scored in the third on a pair of doubles. Jonathan Roof hit one before Kyrell Hudson was hit by a pitch and highly-rated prospect Maikel Franco brought them both in with a two-bagger. Brevard County would get those two runs and one more back in the bottom of the third. Macias was hit by a pitch with one out and advanced to second and third on two separate wild pitches. After the second, which was the fourth ball on Lance Roenicke, a wild throw into left field allowed him to scamper home. Hinojosa followed Roenicke with a four-pitch walk, setting up Stang's two-RBI triple. Ramirez led off the fourth inning and blasted his second home run of the game, which was also his third in two nights. Ramirez became the first Manatee to hit two home runs in a game at home since Brock Kjeldgaard accomplished the feat on June 5, 2011. Brevard County's pitching staff also had a big hand in the victory as starter Jacob Barnes (1-0, 2.57) earned the win in his first start of the season. Out of the bullpen, Tyler Cravy, Tommy Toledo and Seth Harvey combined for four scoreless innings with just one hit, two walks and three strikeouts to round out the box score. On the other side, Clearwater starting pitcher Colin Kleven (0-2, 18.90) was roughed up as he was charged with nine runs on seven hits and three walks in 2.2 innings. However, six of the eight outs he recorded were on strikes. Manatees win streak snapped at three Clearwater blasts past Brevard, 9-5 in series opener By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/4/8/44628448/cuts/Rivera_4.12_480x270_d2sf5rao_n9bep6xn.jpg Manatees shortstop Yadiel Rivera leaps in the air to avoid the slide of Clearwater's Harold Martinez to finish turning a double play in the second inning of Brevard County's 9-5 loss to the Threshers on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - With two teams fresh off of three-game series sweeps, one team's streak had to end. Unfortunately for the home crowd, it was the Brevard County Manatees that took a 9-5 loss at the hands of the Clearwater Threshers at Space Coast Stadium on Friday night. Offense was aplenty in the first two innings as Brevard County (4-4) led 4-1 going into the third inning on four walks and four base hits. It looked like even more runs were possible, but on a sacrifice fly in the second inning it was ruled that Chadwin Stang left third base early in an attempt to score, resulting in an inning-ending double play that left two other runners on. Clearwater's (5-3) Chris Serritella bounced a home run off of the top of the left-center field wall to cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning and then another long ball by Carlos Alonso gave Clearwater a 5-4 lead that they would not relinquish. In the top of the seventh, Threshers reliever Jose Mojica worked his way around for what would eventually be the winning run. Brevard County kept it interesting though as Nick Ramirez hit his first homer of the season and his fourth extra-base hit in as many days to tighten it back up at 6-5 right after the stretch. Clearwater though would put the game out of reach with two more runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth on a wild pitch. Even though the Manatees set new season highs for offense at home, with eleven hits matching Opening Night for the overall season high and the five runs more than doubling the previous total in Viera, Clearwater's timely hitting and Alonso's shot did the 'Tees in. Manatees starting pitcher David Goforth (0-1) pitched well through the first four innings, but the three runs in the fifth spelled the end of his night. He finished with a line of five runs (four earned) on five hits - including two home runs allowed - two walks and five strikeouts. On the other side, Threshers starting pitcher Ethan Stewart didn't last through the second after issuing four walks and also surrendering four hits for four runs. He only struck out one in 1.1 innings, but did not take the loss as Gabriel Arias came out of the bullpen with 4.2 scoreless frames and had the offense step up behind him. Brevard County will look to get back on track in game two of its three-game set with Clearwater on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. Jacob Barnes (0-0, 0.00) will make his first start for the Manatees, while Colin Kleven (0-1, 11.25) toes the rubber for Clearwater. The game can be heard live on ManateesBaseball.com, with pregame coverage starting at 6:05 p.m.

Not Brewers related, but Cubs prospect Jorge Soler apparently lost his mind tonight in Daytona. Benches cleared following a hard slide by Soler to break up a double play, at which point Soler proceeded to grab a bat and go to town on the Clearwater dugout. That's got to be a nice little suspension coming for Soler. Too bad it didn't happen before they played Brevard County.
