Final: Wisconsin 5, Lake County 3 Rattlers defense never rests Wisconsin turns four double plays in 5-3 win over Lake County By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers EASTLAKE, OH - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers staged another comeback victory in a 5-3 win over the Lake County Captains Thursday at Classic Park. But, it was the defense that kept the Rattlers in front to the end. Wisconsin's infield turned four double plays in the game, including huge, rally-killing double plays in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. The win was the fourth in a row for the Rattlers. Wisconsin (55-34 overall, 11-9 second half) scored a run in the top of the first inning to take the lead. Chadwin Stang started the game with a double. Yadiel Rivera drew a walk and an errant pickoff throw to second allowed both runners to move up a base. Ben McMahan drove in Stang with a sacrifice fly. Lake County (40-49, 9-11) answered with three runs on one swing of the bat in the bottom of the first. Wisconsin starting pitcher Chad Thompson walked two of the first three batters he faced. Jordan Smith made him pay. Smith lined a 1-2 pitch from Thompson to deep right-center for a three-run home run and a 3-1 lead. Mike Garza started the Rattlers second inning with a double and Lance Roenicke drove him in with a single to cut the Captains advantage to a single run. Wisconsin had a great opportunity in the top of the fifth inning as they loaded the bases with one out. But, Lake County escaped with a fine defensive play off a Yadiel Rivera shot down the third base line that turned into a double play. The Rattlers would get another chance in the sixth and they would not waste it. Brandon Macias doubled to start the inning. McMahan followed with an RBI single to tie the game 3-3. Nick Ramirez put the Rattlers ahead with a double to right-center to send McMahan all the way home from first base. Garza sent Ramirez to third with a ground ball to the right side. Then, Roenicke drove a single through the drawn in infield to score Ramirez for a 5-3 lead. Reliever Jacob Barnes gave up leadoff singles in each of the four innings he worked and had runners on first and second with less than two outs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. But, he worked his way out of each spot of trouble to earn his second save of the season. The two biggest double plays for the Rattlers defense came in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Lake County had runners at first and second with no outs and called on Leonardo Castillo to bunt. Barnes got Castillo to pop the bunt up back to the mound. Barnes made the catch and fired to second to double the runner off. In the eighth, a single and a one out walk put runners on first and second against Barnes again. This time it was with Smith coming to the plate. Smith, who had the homer in the first and a single in the sixth, hit a hard line drive through the middle that was ticketed for center. But, shortstop Yadiel Rivera made a diving stab of the line drive. Rivera got up and jogged to the second base bag to easily doubled the runner off to complete the twin killing. The Captains would get the leadoff man on base in the bottom of the ninth. Barnes would not need a double play to end the game. He recorded a pair of strikeouts and a grounder to short to close out the Captains. Thompson allowed the three run homer in the first, but nothing else over his five innings of work to pick up his fourth win of the season. Game three of the series is Friday night at Classic Park. Matt Miller (7-6, 4.17) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Lake County has Mason Radeke (5-3, 3.23) as their scheduled starting pitcher. Game time is 6:00pm CDT. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:40pm. Final: DSL Tigers 2, DSL Brewers 0 DSL Brewers Box Score MiLB.com still hasn't updated yet, if/when they do I can go back and change the links but these should work for now. Not really much to talk about offensively here. The famous Harry Doyle line comes to mind...One hit? Elvis Rubio was 1-4 with the only base hit for the Brewers. Catcher Natanael Mejia drew two walks. Juan Ortiz walked once and stole his 9th base of the year. The pitching for the Brewers was pretty good though. Milton Gomez was the tough luck loser, going five innings and allowing just one earned run. Marcos Padilla and Joan De La Cruz each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. DSL Brewers Play By Play

Rattler Radio Nine after 9 "8.Yes, Ramirez had a double and three more RBI. But, let’s take a look at his defense at first base tonight. He dug the throw to first on the 1-2-3 double play in the seventh out of the dirt, robbed Francisco Lindor of an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth with a diving play, started a 3-6 double play with a dive to his right, and he started another 3-6 double play to end the game. Pardon the language, but that is DAMN good defense."

Final: Wisconsin 11, Lake County 8 Rally Rattlers strike again Wisconsin trails 8-3, but wins 11-8 at Lake County By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers EASTLAKE, OH - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rallied from an 8-3 deficit to defeat the Lake County Captains Wednesday night at Classic Park. Yadiel Rivera went 4-for-4 with a home run and Brandon Macias drove in four runs for the Rattlers. Lake County (40-48 overall, 9-10 second half) jumped to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Luigi Rodriguez started the scoring with an RBI double. A single and a walk loaded the bases for Bryson Myles, who knocked in a run with a single. A sacrifice fly by Alex Lavisky plated another run. Leonardo Castillo was next and he doubled to the wall in left. One run scored, but Myles was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Wisconsin (54-34, 10-9) rallied for three runs in the top of the third inning to cut the deficit to a run. The Rattlers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Macias drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Nick Ramirez came through with a two-out, two-run double to make it 4-3. But, the Captains answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the bottom of the fourth. Myles cracked a two-run double in the third. Then, he stole third and scored on a throwing error. In the fourth, Rodriguez banged a single, his third hit of the game, with two outs to drive in a run and Lake County went up 8-3. The Rattlers stormed back in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game. Macias struck with an RBI single that scored Rivera and sent Chadwin Stang to third with no outs. Then, with Nick Ramirez at the plate, Macias took off for second and drew a throw. Stang broke for the plate and avoided the tag on the return throw to steal home. Moments later Ramirez singled to left-center and Macias scored to get the Rattlers within two runs. Garfield cranked the next pitch to the bleachers in left field for a two-run homer and a tie game. Rivera and Stang set up Macias for the go ahead RBI in the sixth. Rivera doubled for his third hit of the game and moved to third on a single by Stang. Stang would steal second base to put two runners in scoring position. Macias drove in his third run of the night with an infield single and the Rattlers led 9-8. Lake County had a huge threat in the bottom of the seventh inning as they loaded the bases with no outs against Kevin Shackelford. The Rattlers reliever escaped the frame by getting Lavisky to ground into a 1-2-3 double play and Castillo to ground out to first. The Rattlers offense provided a pair of insurance runs with two outs in the top of the eighth. Rivera smacked a two-out solo home run. His team-leading tenth home run of the season gave him a 4-for-4 night with four runs scored. Then, Stang would single and steal second. Macias picked up his fourth RBI of the night with a single off the glove of the third baseman. Michael Strong pitched a scoreless eighth and a scoreless ninth to close out the game. The save was Strong's first as a professional. Game two of the series is Thursday morning. Chad Thompson (3-2, 4.79) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Shawn Morimando (302, 3.90) is slated to go for the Captains. Game time is 10:00am CDT. Tune in for the Miller Lite Pregame Show on AM1280, WNAM or timberratlers.com at 9:40am. Brad, impressive looking site. I know you are not the self promotional type but any pics or blog links added to the link reports would only supplement the content here in a positive way. Thank you. It's still a work in progress, shouldn't actually be viewable yet. Yikes hope I didn't post something I shouldn't have. Anyway, you are correct, I don't like self promotion, but I'm really proud of the work we did on it so I will definitely let you guys know when it goes live. Should be either Friday or Monday.

Oh boy, I need someone Friday night as well. It is my bachelor party night. Woot! I'll cover TC07 on Saturday, now who can cover us Friday? I believe that is: Nashville Brevard County Helena DSL I don't have anything going on Friday night, so if you can't find anyone else, I can do my best Mass Haas impersonation for a night and take 5 teams. You just worry about taking care of Cinnamon and Bambi. (i.e. Enjoy your bachelor party!) Also, I'm going to need a sub to take the Rattlers on Saturday July 21st and Saturday July 28th if someone is able to help me out.

I didn't have much of a problem with the rankings. There are some guys I would have moved around. For instance I'm much higher on Scooter Gennett and not nearly as high on Eric Farris or David Goforth. My list would tend to include guys like McFarland, Reed, Arcia and Taylor rather than some of the older guys who have kind of leveled out, but like x-tai said, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm a little more bothered by some of the factual errors in the write-up. Well that and the fact that at least two of the photos used were used without permission of the photographer , but rankings are always subjective.

Final: Kane County 4, Wisconsin 6 Rattlers roar back to top Cougars By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers spotted the Kane County Cougars three runs on Monday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin would score six unanswered runs and go on to a 6-4 win. Brandon Macias had four hits to pace the Rattlers attack. Kane County (44-44 overall, 10-8 second half) went in front with the first three runs of the game. Julio Aparicio hit a leadoff home run in the top of the second inning. In the third inning, Daniel Mateo and Aparicio each had two out RBI triples off Wisconsin starter David Goforth. Ben McMahan started the comeback with a solo home run in the third inning. The homer was the seventh of the season for McMahan. Wisconsin (53-34, 9-9) tied the game in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. Macias doubled and McMahan walked with one out. Nick Ramirez singled to drive in Macias and an error on the play allowed both McMahan and Ramirez to each move up a base. Cameron Garfield got McMahan home with the tying run on a ground out. The Rattlers sprinted in front with three quick runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chadwin Stang's bunt single with Max Walla at third and Adrian Williams at first caught the Cougars off guard and got Walla home to put Wisconsin up 4-3. Williams made the next run with his legs. He would get a walking lead from second base and easily stole third. The throw to third deflected off Williams into left field. By the time the Cougars could corral the baseball, Williams had scored and Stang had sprinted around to third base. Macias smacked an RBI single through the drawn in infield to score Stang for a 6-3 advantage. Goforth scattered nine hits over six innings. He struck out two and did not walk a batters in the game to earn his sixth win of the season. The Rattlers did a great job of situational hitting in the sixth inning. First Adrian Williams singled through the vacated shortstop hole on a beautifully executed hit and run. David Goforth got the win after giving up three runs in six innings. Alan Williams worked two scoreless innings and Tommy Toledo earned his sixth save, despite giving up a home run in the 9th. Oh really? I was not aware of that. Thanks for the correction. -

Maysonet was actually DFA'd on 6/22 so he's no longer on the 40-man and would need to be re-added to be called up. If it's somebody not on the 40-man already, my guess would be Bianchi. -

Coulter, Crew score 17 -- in first inning Brewers' first-round pick helps AZL club trounce Royals, 23-8 By Andrew Pentis / Special to MLB.com http://www.milb.com/images/2012/07/08/bZB6ON9E.jpg Clint Coulter, the Brewers' top pick last month, recorded three hits Saturday. (Getty Images) Baseball lineups aim to put up a crooked number on the scoreboard every inning. In their first frame Saturday night, the Arizona League Brewers nearly put up two crooked numbers. Milwaukee's Rookie-level affiliate scored 17 runs before making the game's first three outs and went on to crush the host Royals, 23-8. The Brewers sent 22 batters to the plate in the opening inning, collecting 12 hits and drawing five walks. The Royals also hit a batter, committed two errors and a balk. The Royals burned through three pitchers -- rehabbing Major League reliever Juan Gutierrez (0-1) and 2011 draftees Christian Witt and Christian Witt each recorded one out -- and made two defensive switches in the frame. A bit of context: No Minor League team has scored more than 17 runs in a single inning this season. Plus, the 23 runs overall represent an Arizona League season high, besting the AZL Diamondbacks' 22-run total on June 24. At the forefront of the victorious lineup was first-round Draft pick Clint Coulter, who was selected 27th overall last month. The 18-year-old catcher singled three times in five at-bats and caught six innings before leaving his 10th game as a pro. Coulter, who signed four days after the Draft, singled twice and grounded out in the first, while leadoff man -- and second-round pick -- Tyrone Taylor tripled, doubled and reached on an error, all in the space of one inning. In his seventh pro game, Taylor finished 4-for-7 with three RBIs and four runs scored -- all career highs. No. 3 hitter Jose Pena recorded five hits in seven at-bats and fell a home run short of the cycle. He doubled and singled twice in the first inning alone. Taylor opened the game with a double, Coulter singled and Pena followed with an RBI base hit. With one out, a throwing error by shortstop Ramon Torres produced another run and Angel Ortega singled to chase Gutierrez. Renaldo Jenkins greeted Witt with an RBI double before Malcolm Dowell and Dionis Hinojosa walked to force in a run. Third baseman Diego Goris' error allowed two more runs to score, but Coulter was retired on a ground ball for the second out. Pena doubled to make it 9-0, then scored on Jalen Harris' triple. Alan Sharkey and Angel Ortega singled and Jenkins walked against Lumpkins to load the bases. Dowell was plunked and Hinojosa walked to force in two runs and Taylor emptied the bases with his third triple of the season. Coulter capped the inning with an RBI single to center field. The Brewers also posted a crooked digit in the third (two runs) and seventh innings (three runs) before scoring their final run in the eighth. The Royals rallied for six runs in the bottom of the first against starter Daniel Keller, who was charged with all eight runs on 12 hits over three frames. Brewers relievers Taylor Magnum (1-1) and Zachary Quintana each allowed one hit over three scoreless innings, with Quintana recording his first save.

Final: Kane County 5, Wisconsin 1 Cougars spoil Rattlers return home By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were looking forward to a home game after a rough six-game road trip to Iowa. But, Angel Baez and the Kane County Cougars wrecked the Wisconsin return to Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium with a 5-1 win over the home team. Baez struck out five over six innings and sent the Rattlers to their third straight loss. Kane County (44-42 overall, 10-6 second half) got off to a fast start with a first inning run. Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller hit Justin Trapp to start the game. Trapp stole second and went to third on a single by Jack Lopez. A sacrifice fly by Daniel Mateo got Trapp home for a 1-0 Cougars lead. The Cougars made it 3-0 in the top of the third inning. Daniel Mateo drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run. Miller got Jorge Bonifacio to ground into a 6-4-3 double play that let in another run. Cameron Garfield, who had two hits in the game, put Wisconsin (51-34, 7-9) on the board with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. But, that was the only run the Timber Rattlers would get. A two-run homer by Alex Llanos in the top of the sixth inning had padded the Kane County lead. Baez turned the ball over to the Cougars bullpen to start the seventh and a pair of Kane County relievers held the Rattlers off the scoreboard over the final three innings to maintain the lead and eventually close out the game. The trio of Cougars pitchers held Wisconsin to four hits in the game. Game two of the series is Sunday afternoon. Fond du Lac native Chad Pierce (2-3, 4.45) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County has Bryan Brickhouse (1-0, 5.14) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 1:05pm. The first 500 fans to attend the game will receive a magnet from Lamers Bus Lines of former Timber Rattler - and current Toronto Blue Jay - Brett Lawrie. Timber Rattlers players will be available for an autograph session after the game. Time Warner Cable customers can receive up to four half-priced reserved bleacher tickets when showing their TWC bill at time of ticket purchase. As part of 107.5, The Fan Brewers Sunday, Rattlers players will be wearing Brewers-themed jerseys on-field during the game. Oh fuuuuudge, Wily Peralta just came out of the game for Nashville after taking a line drive off his leg. It looked like it got him square. The ball ricocheted all the way in to foul territory. He was pitching another really good ball game up until that point. Only gave up one unearned run, and not much was hit real hard (well, until that liner). He also helped himself at the plate with a pair of walks and a safety squeeze bunt for an RBI. May be just a coincidence, but I noticed Peralta's last three starts which have all been pretty good, have been caught by Dayton Buller. The one before that when he struggled had Jaramillo behind the plate. Also, no Logan Schafer after he left last night's game with a thumb injury. Caleb Gindl started for him in CF.

Cameron Garfield was hit by a pitch and Yadiel Rivera doubled to put runners at second and third with no outs. The double by Rivera was the first Wisconsin hit off Kernels starting pitcher Michael Johnson. It was also the last. The homer, his eighth of the season, was a solo shot to start the frame and make the score 3-2. The Kernels answered with a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning against reliever Jacob Barnes. Barnes walked the leadoff batter, but struck out the next two hitters was on the verge of getting out of the frame. But, Zach Wright tied the game by blooping a double down the right field line. Borenstein was next and he blooped a double down the left field line to send Wright home with the go ahead run. Trevor Hairgrove capped the inning with a single through the middle of the diamond to score Borenstein with a run for a 5-3. The Kernels appeared to put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Yarbrough doubled with two runners on base to knock in both runners. Later in the inning Borenstein welcomed reliever Stosh Wawrzasek with a three-run home run. That put the Kernels up 10-3 heading to the eighth inning. Wisconsin loaded the bases with one out against Joe Melioris and Walla, a lefty, was due to hit. The Kernels went to get a lefty out of the bullpen, Stephen Tromblee. Walla worked the count to 3-1 and pulled a pitch past the first base bag. The ball rolled into the right field corner for a three-run triple to cut the Kernels lead to 10-6. Adrian Williams kept the inning going with a walk. Stang followed with a bunt single to get Walla home and the score was 10-7. Lance Roenicke loaded the bases with an infield single. Then, Brandon Macias dropped a single into center to score a single run. The score was 10-8 with the bases loaded again, one out, and Ben McMahan due to hit. McMahan had already batted with the bases loaded once in the game. In the fifth inning, he flew out to right. Closer Tommy Toledo came on to pitch the eighth inning and he worked around a two out single. In the ninth, he could not work around Borenstein.
