  1. Trying to find the logic in Schoop over Perez/Shaw, it appears that Schoop has historically been his best against offspeed pitches, including curves. Hill obviously throws a lot of curves (is basically two pitches, and his fastball isn't overpowering).
  2. For those wondering why he keeps going with JJ with runners on base, it's not just an old-school "he's the closer/top guy" mentality. Jeffress is the best pitcher in the bullpen at inducing ground balls and avoiding HR.
  3. Counsell went with JJ last night to get him right back out there after probably the worst outing of his career (given the stakes) and to show that he still had the manager's confidence. A high leverage but non-save situation was the perfect time to do that. Say what you will but Counsell is an excellent players' manager.
  4. Winning one of these next two games would be huge (stating the obvious). Rich Hill is the most vulnerable on paper. I think Shaw should start at 2B, because the Dodgers bullpen might come in early and having Shaw lurking low in the order messes with their matchups
  5. Peralta is a beast against RHB, I don't see why he hasn't been used yet for the platoon advantage. Maybe he's the secret weapon for Game 4 or 5? 44.1 IP vs. RHB, .110/.209/.188/.397 And his fastball will give the Dodgers hitters whiplash after adjusting to Gio or Miley
  6. Grandal tanking in the postseason to not only help the Brewers win, but guarantee that we can sign him on an affordable free agent deal this offseason.
  7. [sarcasm]We can bring in Guerra and Peralta after Woodruff hits his grand slam[/sarcasm]
  8. Always a little nervous about throwing guys on short rest, but huge to have four LHP in five games against these Dodgers (and we just won the game with the RHP!) How much looser are the Brewers, by the way, even with these past few games being intense? A study in contrast with the Dodgers players breaking bats, throwing bats, freaking out, etc.
  9. Alright it's fun again
  10. I'm not saying JJ had a good outing, but he gave up hits tonight to Justin Turner and Manny Machado. There are some guys you aren't going to get out 100% of the time even when firing on all cylinders.
  11. For all the mockery of our starting rotation, if you take the career peaks of Gio, Miley, and Chacin, that is a very solid starting three. They are all pitching like their peak selves right now. (With the caveat that Miley is a different type of pitcher than at his previous peak)
  12. Well that's verifiably false based on the season he's had. But I've been worried about this happening for a while given how hard he was worked this season, blowing past his career high innings peak. I think he is fatigued and shouldn't be relied on the rest of 2018.
  13. I've found that I actually do not enjoy watching these NLCS games For a team that is so rarely this far in the playoffs, and can't confidently expect to be back here next season, it's just too stressful. Why do Dodgers/Astros/Yankees fans even pretend to care? Oddly enough, I think I would be much happier watching WS games even if we end up losing. At least being the WS runner up feels like an accomplishment. If we lose the NLCS it just feels like the entire magical season was a waste. And to the bleeping Dodgers no less.....
  14. The Dodgers got extremely lucky in both games. I don't know how you could have watched the games and not conclude that. They deserved to lose both. That being said, luck obviously helped us get to where we are. (Remember when a Cardinals runner fell over?!) It's just frustrating to lose such a pivotal game when we should be up 2-0.
  15. Sad to see Keon go, but if nothing else he's already had a huge postseason moment, and it's nice to have a lot of bullpen depth going into a 7-game series.
  16. I think the risk would outweigh the reward on that one. If the Dodgers lineup was totally incompetent against RHP then maybe, but they're not, so you would be burning a pitcher for a platoon advantage against a few hitters (likely more than cancelled out by the remainder of the Dodgers lineup pummeling RHP).
  17. [sarcasm]I read that they're trying something new tonight and it's just going to be Harold Reynolds solo for the entire game[/sarcasm]
  18. Is POBO a more desirable job? It may be technically higher in the food chain, but who wouldn't rather be the GM? I'd rather be GM than owner, for example. Especially for a young guy like Stearns who is probably not ready to "retire" from the day-to-day decisionmaking position.
  19. Is 2019 Gray really better than Davies or Anderson? I don't see why we would trade a guy who was excellent last year but had a mediocre season this year (Schoop) for a guy who has been mediocre for years now.
  20. I'm fairly confident that there were clubhouse issues with Villar and that's why he was traded. No specific info, just reading between the lines. You can't really blame the front office for Schoop having the worst second half of his career. That's not something that can be scouted in an established major leaguer (especially one coming off Player of the Week and a hot streak)
  21. Much better offense, better defense, better bullpen, starting rotation closer than most people think. Not really laughable. Astros offense is actually better. As is their defense. As is their bullpen. And everyone on their team other than Cole did this last year. Which doesn't even cover the chasm between the starting roatations. I usually agree with you but I think you're waaaaay off base on this one. 2018 Yankees: batters 29.4 fWAR (+93.4 offense, -14.7 fielding) (4th in MLB), pitchers 26.6 fWAR (2nd in MLB) 2018 Astros: batters 24.7 fWAR (+64.2 offense, -26.2 fielding) (11th in MLB), pitchers 30.7 fWAR (1st in MLB) And the Yankees improved the most down the stretch by adding Voit, McCutchen, Happ, etc. The Astros are severely overrated, I guess because they are national media darlings and have been in the WS recently? Their pitching staff was so amazing this year because they had 5 top starters. That's sort of irrelevant in the playoffs, where you can get by with 3 starters and a bullpen. That takes away most of what made the 2018 Astros elite.
  22. Much better offense, better defense, better bullpen, starting rotation closer than most people think. Not really laughable.
  23. Astros are preferred. They're worse than BOS/NYY
  24. I think I want Miley (our best GB pitcher) for one of the Miller games, rather than LA which is already a pitcher's park. Games 1 - Miley Game 2 - bullpen (before the day off) Game 3 - Chacin Game 4 - Gio Game 5 - Miley Game 6 - Chacin Game 7 - bullpen (possibly the last game of the season, might as well throw everybody at the wall here)
