  1. well it's time for some fireball. I hope smith isn't losing it...
  2. huge couple of innings here. We could charge into this homestand and get some nice padding or we can keep giving the three other teams some hope. Let's get a run and get out of here!
  3. Huh? You mean the team with 2 players batting over .275? Their team ERA is 3.49 ours is 3.62. Both teams have 57 quality starts. What is with the negativity? The reds are not better than us. Sure in a 3 game stretch at their park, they have played slightly better but the scores have been 4-2, 1-0 and now 2-0 ... Yep - clearly better than us The reds have two aces and a great staff overall. When both offenses are healthy we have a slight edge as with the bullpen. The defense they have the obvious edge. The difference in the quality of the top two pitchers in the rotation makes them a better team IMO.
  4. hopefully the pirates/cards can take out the reds because clearly they're better than us.
  5. looks like its gonna be a long day...gallardo has been solid but getting an actual "ace" would be nice
  6. yeah the segura in the 2 hole makes zero sense... especially with a great right handed pitcher on the mound. Good lord his WAR is 0 now.
  7. Completely agree. I'm on the fence as to whether or not wooten should even be on the team. Seems like he has AAAA stuff. That said the pathetic approach by the offense owns this loss.
  8. is this guy a top prospect or are we just horrible today?
  9. good lord with the swinging at the eye high fastball. Enough guys
  10. here we go again! One start against a power lacking nationals shouldn't weigh heavily on any one's mind
  11. wasn't melky thin a couple years ago? good lord that's obvious he's still doing whatever he wants
  12. let the home run derby begin!! Hopefully this is estrada's last game
  13. if we could get garza and braun going along with replacing estrada think of what a roll we could get on then
  14. hey garza, you can't hit that corner so maybe throw on the inside corner?
  15. i love the guys who shake their heads at a ball right down the middle. Sit down espinosa
  16. come on garza get the freakin ball down these guys are average at best
  17. Yes. He's had consistently very poor ab's and has been swinging at a lot of garbage/ making poor contact with meatballs
  18. Looks like a great time for garza to throw up a zero building on his previous outings. I'm ready to have more 4-2 scores again after the launching pad in colorado.
  19. It worries them alright. But the pitiful hitting is what has them in panic mode. Swapping hitters back and forth from the AAA team trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Multiple lineup experiments, the latest had Holliday moved from his usual #3 to #2 yesterday. A good idea since he's on a pace to hit 14 HR's this year. (he went O'fer) The pressure from the fans and media, not to mention Matheny's fear of being fired will force some sort of significant aquisition before the trade deadline. No free agent is safe! (you guys got any?) What happened to the offense? Is it just a matter of bad luck, age, injury or did they have a lot of good luck in the past and it is evening out? I looked back at past team stats and a main difference I see is they are not hitting as well with runners in scoring position. Considering they hit much better with runners in scoring position than they did overall I think perhaps they just had a bit more luck last season. I could see that make the offense look better than it really is. I think you put your finger on it Thurston. Molina seems to be ageing overnight. Not only is his hitting down, he's allowing more passed balls. Craig's power outage and inconsistent RISP has me thinking steroid deprivation. I supected a lot of players that came in on La Russa's watch, David Freese being the most obvious. Carpenter: I think pitchers have figured out that he won't swing the bat until he's got 2 strikes on him, so he's constantly behind in the count. He leads the team in strike outs. How a guy that hit 55 dbls and had 79 RBI leading off off is not batting 2nd or 3rd is beyond me. Bourjos, Ellis, Gritchik, Tavares, Peralta and Wong all living in or heading to Mendozaville. It's these new guys more than anything else that drag scoring down. Fortunately their collective defense has been quite good or the Cards would be way more than 5.5 games out. Thank you for touching on what many fans thought of with players like freese after the ludwicks, ankiels, etc concerning larussa's well known steroid history. That brings my hatred down for cardinals fans a lot (first time I have ever heard one admit their players probably used)
