  1. If only we had a decent backup outfielder, so we could give Ryan Braun the rest of the day off to rest his ailing thumb with a 7-0 lead.
  2. How is it we've 14 innings into our series with the Cubs, and we haven't scored a single run yet? Somebody please tell me what's going on. I just woke up, so are we just flailing away at the plate?
  3. Braun barely cracks the top 5 hitters on his own team, so pretty tough to say he's one of the three best in the entire NL. He's hurt. Braun for his career has been a much better hitter than any of these guys. Without the thumb injury, I'm betting Braun is having a better year than any of these other guys. If Braun had his 2012 season last year, he'd have won the MVP going away. McCutchen's MVP season was really weak, if you ask me. He didn't win the Gold Glove in center. He had like 21 HR and 84 RBI. That's not an MVP season. That's winning the award by default because nobody on a contending team had a great year, and they had to give it to somebody. He's been better this year, but now he's hurt.
  4. Overall WAR, which might come into play when deciding Gold Glove votes (it does seem to do so): Lucroy 5.0 Posey 2.6 Molina 2.2 dWAR, or defensive WAR: Lucroy 1.3 Molina 1.1 Posey 0.1 Keep in mind that Molina has only caught 81 of St. Louis' 117 games, and he's still on the DL. Posey has caught only 83 of San Francisco's 118 games. Lucroy has caught 100 of Milwaukee's 119 games. I don't see Posey being in the running. It should come down to Lucroy and Molina, and Molina has missed 36 games, and is going to miss more. Shouldn't you actually have to play the game to win a Gold Glove?
  5. I received the new Baseball America in the mail on Friday. It's the "Best Tools" issue, where Major League managers rate players in a myriad of different skills and abilities. Lucroy was listed as the second best defensive catcher in the National League. And, since Yadi is missing so much time, Luc it seems has a great shot to win this. We went thirty years without a single Gold Glove being awarded to a Brewer. Could we now have two in two years? I don't know how much faith I put in this. The managers listed Troy Tulowitzki, Andrew McCutchen and Paul Goldschmidt as the best three hitters in the National League. Tulo is a career .299 hitter. He's a career .274 hitter away from Coors Field. Andrew McCutchen is a .298 hitter, and Paul Goldschmidt is a career .292 hitter. Ryan Braun is a career .310 hitter. I'm not sure how any of these three qualify as better hitters than Braun. I bet ol Kirk Gibson got on the phone, and pleaded with the other managers to leave Brauny off their list. Think Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports will write an article about that?
  6. Thank you, RockCoCougars. It really is a beautiful card. Now I need to get the '77 and the rookie card. I have a nice '75, but it has a dot the size of a pin tip in the upper right corner that looks like somebody started to tack it to the wall for an instant, and they decided not to. Just enough to keep it from being a grade-worthy card. http://imageshack.com/a/img742/2398/9y3Lxt.png This card is beautiful, too. It will go into my binder when I finish my 1975 Topps set.
  7. It's been quite a while since this thread has been updated. I've been collecting vintage and pre-war cards more than anything (the T206 set, 1933/34 Goudey sets, and the 1975 Topps set are my current projects. The T206 set is very, very expensive. I'm building it in a PSA 4/5 condition. But, I've also been working on a Robin Yount master set. First I'm working on getting all his Topps cards in high grade. I just got this beauty in a couple of days ago. I'm debating resubmitting it, because I think it's a ten. This is his second year card, and it's absolutely beautiful. http://imageshack.com/a/img673/3258/4P476y.png Have any of you guys added any new Brewer cards recently? I'd love to see them.
  8. I don't get it. The last home run that Braun hit was an absolute bomb to left field. It was like 450 feet. He looked like the Braun of old. I guess the thumb is still an issue. Damn. To his credit, while we're still discussing his OPS vs the very best of Kevin Mench, Braun, even with 23 missed games, is 6th in the league with 67 RBIs. He's still a productive hitter. You've got to think he'll break out of this soon.
  9. Kate Upton is his Memo. Detroit needs to dress Glenn Close up in a white dress, and send her to Wrigley the next time the Tigers play the Cubs.
  10. Is it wrong that I think this would be AWESOME! If it meant I'd never hear another Dodger fan whining about how Ryan Braun needed to give his MVP to him, I'd be all for it. I like Kemp for how he's treated a couple fans. That being said, I don't really know him. I've thought since 2011 that he was using, and his annual string of injuries and decrease in production have made me think he could be on them. I wouldn't be surprised if he were on this list.
  11. Brewers with a 2.5 game lead on Pittsburgh, and a 3 game lead over the Cardinals. Awesome!
  12. I'm watching the Pirates-Padres game. Love MLB.tv. Padres win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Joaquin Benoit gets the save!!!
  13. Getting through 8 with 100 pitches or less is a rarity nowadays. The whole pen got a night off except KRod. I really can't state how huge that is.
  14. I can't believe we're in this situation. Thank God, looks like Kemp got jammed. Way to go, Mike Fiers!
  15. Fiers hadn't gone 8 all season at AAA. I think pulling him after 8 is the right move.
  16. I can only watch after the game. I'm too afraid we'll get another player hurt in preseason. We lost Bryan Bulaga at Family Night last year, I'm hoping we make it to the first game against the Seahawks having only lost Abbrederis.
  17. Wow, and the Padres are beating the Pirates 2-1 headed to the ninth. St. Louis got spanked by the Orioles again. JJ Hardy hit two home runs for my fantasy team last night. He was 2-4 tonight. I love it! Drinks for everybody. First round's on me.
  18. I agree. When all things are considered, this is definitely in the running, and may be leading the pack.
  19. Boy, if we get a clean 1-2-3 in the ninth to win it, what an absolutely huge game by Mike Fiers. The forum is absolutely hopping when something is going wrong...well, it should be absolutely hopping right now, too. This is huge, as it gives our bullpen a much needed rest. To come up from AAA, and face one of the NL's best teams, and best pitchers in Greinke, and to do that....what an incredible boost this will be to our team. I couldn't possibly overstate how thrilled I am with the game he just had. Wow! That just made my night.
  20. Have a game, Mike Fiers!!! I'd feel really good getting one more insurance run here. But what an absolute gem of a game from Mike Fiers! Welcome back!!!!!
