  1. When I was calling for Scooter to come up earlier in the season, it wasn't with the hopes that Gennett would provide drastically improved performance at second, but more that it might provide some competition that might break Rickie out of whatever torpor he's been in all season.
  2. They've also been a darn good franchise over the past decade+. They averaged 88 wins/season from 1999-2012. All while following the talent cycling franchise-building model that many on this site have been calling for. Sure, they've had stretches where they haven't contended -- and the fans that view/ed 'Moneyball' as some kind of ivory-tower nonsense make sure to crow loudly -- but they don't panic, they don't change the approach, and before too much longer a new run of contention arrives. Yup, I know they've been a very good team. I watch Moneyball every couple of weeks. Just making the point that success and the amount of money spent are not at all directly proportional. We've spent over $27 million more than the A's this year, and they're clearly the better team. The reason the A's have remained competitive without a lot of money is that they can draft and develop good players. And when those players move on, they find other pieces that fit their roster well. I guess it just really bothers me seeing teams with far lesser resources doing so much better than we are, only because they are better managed (from a financial and in-game perspective).
  3. Let me break it down for you. When the team plays well, people will be happy, and this kind of venting won't go on. When the team is playing awfully, you should expect this, as people are frustrated. If it crawls under your skin, here's a suggestion. Don't read the game threads when the Brewers are getting their butts handed to them. As far as the "there's a lack of intelligent discussion" comment, really? Look at the "general thoughts on the franchise" thread. There's been a bunch of great discussion there. I think you're a real hypocrite, to be honest. You're calling people out for doing the exact same thing you do. Ya, you're a real bastion of sunshine in these game threads.
  4. Barring a big comeback in this game... Oakland Athletics 33-24 Milwaukee Brewers 21-35 Team payroll Oakland Athletics $60,372,500 Milwaukee Brewers $88,837,366
  5. Rickie Weeks with a 2 run home run when we're down by 8. I tell ya, the only time he ever does anything is when there's absolutely no pressure.
  6. Hits A's 13 Brewers 2, of which 1 was by the pitcher. Start booing, fans @ Miller Park. Boo loud enough so Mark A hears it.
  7. Whatever Kranitz said apparently took-not. This team is an unmitigated disaster.
  8. Now the bases are loaded. Hey, Rick Kranitz is headed out to the mound. That will solve all our problems. How I loathe looking at our managers and coaches.
  9. Damn, Domonic Brown is just on fire. 17th home run tonight. That's 9 home runs in his last 10 games. I'm so glad I picked him up for my fantasy team.
  10. http://coloradopols.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/SmashingHeadOnKeyboard.gif
  11. He hit 2 home runs in May. In the last 7 days, he's hitting .231. A manager with half a brain would think, "gee, my superstar does not look right, and maybe give him two or three days off. No, taking him out of the last two innings of a game doesn't count. Braun has said the thumb is still bothering him, but RRR the super genius would rather throw him out there, and risk further injury. He's a complete mental midget.
  12. For the love of God, why is Braun in there? Rest him, [for heck's sake]. He's not hitting worth a lick right now because his thumb is an issue. If I could plant my foot in Ron Roenicke's rear end, I would.
  13. Nice cards, jrod! I especially like the '54 Aaron (that should go without saying!) I can't wait to dive feet first into vintage. That will happen very, very soon. Just building my savings back up a bit after paying off my car and medical bills.
  14. Oh, hogwash. I could find minor league players to fill out the rotation. Now that's hogwash or else you're a professional scout. Narveson wasn't spectacular but was quite serviceable for a couple years prior to these last 2 major injuries & Estrada's developed into a very solid find. The key is finding players who 1) are available and then who 2) have enough upside that they're worth acquiring in spite of lousy enough performances that their current organization is willing to let 'em go, and who 3) turn out to be league-average or better major league SPs. Every GM has some successes, but I think Melvin's got a better track record than the majority of GMs. Yes, Doug Melvin's one post season series win in 26 years as an assistant general manager or general manager is a benchmark that other general managers in the Majors aspire to attain, I'm sure. We have the third worst pitching staff in all of MLB baseball by ERA, and if I cared to break down numbers for starting rotations, I'd wager that we have the worst rotation in the game, or very, very close to it. I'm not a professional scout, but I guarantee you if you gave me Doug Melvin's resources, I could put together rotational replacements that were at the bare minimum on par with those guys he's got in place now. He is a terrible judge of pitching talent. That's been proven.
  15. Oh, hogwash. I could find minor league players to fill out the rotation.
  16. I'm not looking forward to the idea of seeing him 16 or so times a year. I think Baez is going to be a really good power hitter, but it's Almora I'm most intrigued by in the Cubs system. He's a very polished player, and should be a very good all-around talent.
  17. Well, the game isn't available on milb.com. Shoot. I wish Huntsville would televise all their games with them.
