  1. Logan Schafer should still see plenty of playing time as a 4th outfielder, and chances are one of the starting outfielders will see some time on the DL. If we let Gomez walk do we have another Schafer in the system who can play plus defense at all three spots with a decent bat? I can't think of anyone. I really like what I've seen from Gomez these last couple years and with his defense and base running anything he provides with the bat is gravy. The odds are very good this deal will provide surplus value which means we can always trade Gomez if Schafer shows something.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=25626423&c_id=mlb Here's the Lucroy video. I thought it was a nice little segment.
  3. Carlos Lee on a minor league deal would be ok. If we're going to sign a backup first basemen for the first couple months it should probably be a right hander.
  4. Do you think Jeff Bianchi passes through waivers? Not that I think it would be a huge hit to lose him, but he's nice depth to have in case of injury.
  5. As long as we're talking about 36 Million guaranteed no matter what, a back loaded deal is good for the team. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow.
  6. @Haudricourt #Brewers GM Doug Melvin says he is not inclined to go more than two years with any free agent pitcher. Won't make it easy. I can only hope.
  7. Any kind of correlation between less movement on a fastball and a higher BABIP? Like less movement=guys squaring up on the ball better and hitting it harder so your BABIP would be above average?
  8. Moving Rami to fit in Hamilton would be incredibly foolish. Rami put up about equal numbers offensively and played plus defense at a position where we have very little depth, compared to Hamilton playing poor defense at a spot where we have lots of other options. I know some people still haven't come around to thinking Ramirez' contract was a good idea, but give me him at 2/26 + the option over Hamilton at 5/100 any day.
  9. I've really got no interest in seeing this team blow 3/40 or 4/50 on a second tier pitcher this off season. I don't really see any of the guys listed as a significant improvement over Peralta/Estrada/Rogers/Fiers/Thornburg and 'veteraness' is overrated. I'd be ok with grabbing a guy in Jan. or Feb. who feel through the cracks to a one year deal to help eat some innings, but we've finally developed some guys of our own so we don't have to give out multiyear deals to mediocre pitchers. As far as the pen goes we already have Hellweg, Olmstead, J. Sanchez, Kinzler and Rogers if he gets pushed from the rotation. I'd be all right with grabbing a guy or two on 1 year deals, but I'd like us to have some flexibility to bring guys up and down as it's warranted.
  10. Thats a pretty good idea. A righty CO with a little pop is pretty much the only bench piece we need to add imo so this would kill two birds with one stone. You can also count me among those who don't see what's so exciting about a second basemen who can't draw walks or hit for any power in the minor leagues.
  11. Three years sounds like he's willing to be really team friendly here. I wasn't wild about extending him to play in the outfield before this season, but he transitioned pretty seamlessly to First Base. Something in the 3/30-36 range would be a pretty good deal imo. I know Morris took a big step this past year, but I'd like to see a pretty significant jump in his walk rate, or at the very least more than 1 big year before I start penciling him into play a major league 1B any time soon.
  12. The problem with Riske was that we gave him 3 years 13 million. If that's what it takes to grab a guy who's good, but not great I say no thanks. I don't think I'm comfortable giving anything more than 2 years to a reliever.
  13. I like the approach to the bullpen so far. We've got the 40 man space to grab some guys right now and we can always DFA them latter if someone better comes along. I think it's probably best to wait until Jan/Feb to start giving out million+ major league contracts to relievers because some good bullpen guys always fall through the cracks and you can get them way cheaper than you could in November. My biggest fear this offseason was that we were gonna get desperate for relievers and give out a couple 4 year 20 million dollar commitments early. Once again Doug is being a lot more crafty than I think a lot of us give him credit for.,
  14. Have to pull out all my old high school Spanish knowledge for this one, the handsome white guy? I like it.
  15. MLBTR says AA and AAA but Bref says A+ and AA, either ways looks like a good arm to add to the mix
  16. 1.52 ERA with 14.0 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 59 1/3 relief innings between Double-A and Triple-A in the Red Sox's system last year
  17. No clue what they see here. Whatever, I guess.
  18. I thought he might be the one non Axford/Henderson guy to stick around but I guess not. I can't really say I'm going to miss him, but I'm starting to get a sinking feeling that the Brewers are gonna get desperate and throw some stupid money at the pen, and we all know how Riske that can be. I know it was a big problem last year, but I'd rather go with guys like Hellwig, Rogers, J. Sanchez and maybe Thornburg plus maybe one or two Ryan Madsen types on one year deals who are trying to build value back up, than get locked into any 3+ year commitments on bullpen guys. It's the area of the team where you get the most variance year to year and where your buck goes the least far in FA.
  19. I checked Rock's twitter hoping for a GGless ARam induced rant. THERE'S STILL TIME!
  20. Bernadina bunted and dropped his bat on top of the ball on the way to first. Aoki bunted towards first and the ball hit him as he ran to first.
  21. I think the knock on him was that he was undersized. He's only listed at 5'10" 165, and I'm sure he's put on some weight in the past year or so since they moved him to short. As far as I can tell he has the arm and the range to play short so I couldn't care less how much he weighs.
  22. Can't it be both. Don't underestimate my ability to complain about multiple things at once.
  23. Is it just me or does Shawn Marcum look like he's going to have a heart attack every time he pitches? He just looks sweaty and uncomfortable.
