  1. Bennett's innings have certainly been more prominent than the usual Rule 5 pick. But I think a lot has gone astray from the original plan with the pitching staff...assuming that there was one.
  2. I love it. Filthyfrog expounds upon the theoretical construct of nicknames...and I think he's entirely right. Back in the day, guys had nicknames like "Dizzy" and "Rube." Or "the Schnozz." Do you really think that William Ellsworth Hoy got to choose his nickname, and picked "Dummy"?
  3. Who was the original Sweet Lou? First one I ever heard of was Whitaker...am I missing something? Edit: Duh...forgot Piniella.
  4. Speaking of attendance...look at those empty seats cheering on the AA team.
  5. If the trade rumors people are right, and Benson and Sheets are both hot properties, it's likely that scouts from contending teams will outnumber actual fans. Note to anyone who can't tell....this is not an actual prediction, but a smart-aleck remark. It might even be hyperbole.
  6. Well, they'll never win 100 if they keep taking nights off...

  8. Actually, clancy, it was the effect of seeing yet another thread turn into the saga of Kinney, Franklin, and Jamey Wright... Nice win for the crew tho. Odd little Giant lineup, but Obermeuller still deserves some credit...maybe it's a thank-you card for allowing the highlights in games 1 and 2.
  9. I have this vague feeling of seeing something familiar...I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's as though I've lived this exact moment a hundred times before.
  10. I think Counsell's world series rings make it tough for him to swing the bat.
  11. Ol' sarcasm meters got busted I guess.
  12. Hehe. The good news is, Wade Miller's probably pretty tight after 82 pitches and watching his team put up a nine-spot.
  13. pogo...I was trying to be polite given phearinc's preference for a family website.
  14. I should add of course that I'm just watching lines of text on the screen, so I can't see whether a pitcher looks tired, etc...appreciate the insights from those who can. And, honestly, there's something to be said for letting a guy like Obermeuller face those guys, take his lumps or pull it off, and learn from the experience either way.
  15. Did anyone else feel like they saw that coming? I was sitting here trying to get a tiny bit of work done while I checked the game here and there...then I saw Bagwell, Kent, et al starting the sixth...wondered will the wheels come off for Obermeuller? I might have yanked him, to take advantage of the much-ballyhooed guys who can go multiple innings. Then again, Ford isn't looking particularly special either...
  16. My Magic 8 ball says that these players are no longer with the organization: Chad Petty Calvin Carpenter Someone keep an eye on Toby...this may put him over the edge...
  17. This one is almost heretical...after Fielder and Weeks, they have Manny Parra at 3 and then Hardy at 4. www.creativesports.com/ne...0&zoneid=8 Complete list: Fielder Weeks Parra Hardy DelaRosa Jones Nelson Hendrickson Martinez Hart plus Krynzel, Gwynn honorable mention
  18. Actually, after the Governator finishes with the budget, four years at UCLA might come close to $750K. IIRC Page was a starting safety his freshman year, and picked off two passes...I think he regressed a bit.
  19. I realize that you don't actually read what other people write, but I am amused by your comment here, Al. Please do show us all one place where someone here called Hanrahan a #1 starter. See also strawman.com ...
  20. Just remember it doesn't cost a team to sign them...we'd just get a pick if they sign elsewhere. There is an interesting discussion of the question of arby offers, comp picks, and the Giants' (and Mariners') apparent desire to rid themselves of 1st round picks. It reminds me at times why I dislike the baseballprospectus types, but it's interesting anyway: premium.baseballprospectu...cleid=2477
  21. Huh...that's pretty tough to do. My guess from a glance at the Memphis team stats is that probably he was batting cleanup behind a leadoff man like Dunwoody (.261 OBP) or Taguchi (.318 OBP), a #2 hitter like Marty Malloy (.312 OBP), and then #3 hitter Dee Haynes (.279 OBP but 70 RBI).
  22. I am officially Jon Nunnally's stalker. Oh-oh...not this again. What was that guy's name, Break_A_Leg or something?
  23. Dang...I remember way back in '98 or so that there was a guy whose projection system said Haverbusch was the next Mike Schmidt. Oops.
  24. I remember Magruder as a key player on a pretty good University of Washington baseball team a long time ago...he's a guy who has a chance to contribute...at worst, he's a nice piece for Indy. Criminy, I'd rather have Magruder than Danny Bautista, even if they made the same salary.
