  1. I’m surprised with the amount of people who aren’t very excited about Turang as a prospect. I get he doesn’t have elite bat speed but outside of that he offers a ton! He has elite contact & I believe only struck out like 10 times in his high school career (even at showcases showed great plate discipline & rarely k’d). His speed & defense is a game changer as well. Since he was a freshman scouts drooled over him & he was an elite prospect. His senior year wasn’t what they hoped but it wasn’t bad by any means. He made a change to his swing a bit & didn’t go to plan. That is correctable for an 18 year old coming into the pros. His swing has always been compared to Yelich who we all love. I’d be disappointed if he didn’t sign but just don’t see that happening. He’s very close with Brewers & their scouts.
  2. Maybe top 5 in production. He has always had an incredible hit tool. Outside of last year, he’s always been a .340+ type bat. His game is improving & developing. Starting to produce some extra base hits & steal few more bags. When it come to ceiling, I don’t think he is top 5. He has 1 outstanding tool, rest of them are pretty average. I’d have him in top 20 though. See him somewhere between 15-20
  3. Wow! That was a flash to dominant Kirby from college! Remember watching him in CWS and he was straight filth
  4. Having both been LSU commits & playing in many of the same showcases & all-star games for a few years. I wonder if Cabell & Turang have developed a pretty good friendship? Chance to go though the journey with a buddy could also help with the signing
  5. Elijah Cabell would be huge sign but it’s pretty confusing to scare teams away with signability and LSU and back out. My guess is JUCO to raise stock and price tag for 2019. Brewers have very little money to work with. Our 1st two picks will probably ask for over slot. If he is in, amazing! But I’m not getting hopes up just yet
  6. Turang’s bat and swing had scouts drowning before this spring. He may have lost it a bit this spring but it’s still there. His bat is promising still. Gray offers more punch but not the contact ability. Bello has pretty nice compact swing that he can spray & drive to both fields. Think his bat could play well & perform like Stokes. As for signing, Turang is going to sign I truly believe. He’s known for awhile now this is where he’d be drafted. He has built great relationship with Crew. College coach of course is holding out hope.... but something really wrong would need to happen for Turang to end up there.
  7. Segovia’s power has really jumped this year! Never will be a HR guy but now he is at least driving ball into gaps & down line
  8. To be confident that we will win every 5th & have a starting pitcher to look forward to... unload. Guessing Peralta, Burnes, Hiura, Lutz for Thor. He is legit as that is under control for pretty long time. Once Jimmy is back, if Woodruff comes back around, and Ortiz and/or Z. Brown can keep developing. We will live. We have OFs in system so losing Lutz won’t kill. Hiura stings a bit since. Hope Dubon comes back to where he was before ACL went.
  9. Really intrigued with Caleb Marquez! Big kid at 6’3 240.... had D1 looks for football & sounds like he really wants to start a pro career! Brandon Hylton seems pretty raw but another massive kid who hopefully the Brewers can develop him if he signs
  10. Really hope some of those high school arms are moving up. I think Lillis & Rubrick will be in Helena. I hope Murphy, Lazar, & Robinson make jump at least sometime during the season. Lazar & Robinson weren’t too bad last year depending on how you judge that. K rate & FIP were good and okay, both got hit hard with Robinson having a Babip of .500. Murphy was a high pick everyone was excited for but had a really bad start to career. Hope he has improved. Really this is the end of year one & start of year two of what appears to be Brewers & Johnson’s draft strategy. Draft young, raw, projectable, and high ceiling kids & develop them yourself and your way. If these young guys like Lemon, Egnatuk, Ward, Castillio, Murphy, Lazar, Bullock don’t really take a step forward this season from last year, that’d be a little discouraging. Most were not great last year so shouldn’t be too hard to top but they all need to be improving
  11. I love Turang, I hear a lot of Trae Turner comps with the impact speed & defense then ton of Yelich comps with the bat at same age. Turner/Yelich? Love it! I will always favor high school ceiling picks. Hiura I was happy about due how incredible his bat is. I was furious over not going Groome at #5 (didn’t wan Puk at all)
  12. Nottingham just turned 23 & could play major role for Brewers in very near future. Derby has pitch well all the way up & on most teams could find a pullpen spot you’d think. Davis has been great for As Put no room for him & his defensive was brutal. If MLB would toss the no DH rule, he could have stayed but man.... I’ll never miss him & his bottom 5 in baseball arm
  13. Also have note that Scooters value was so low they couldn’t find a trade partner & had to release him. Reds deserve credit for getting him turned around
  14. Article on Reese Olson, sounds like he has good relationship with Brewers and is open to signing “Recent North Hall High graduate Reese Olson has a major decision in front of him. Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 13th round of the MLB draft on Wednesday, June 6, the Georgia Tech signee said he and his family are looking at his options to decide whether to go pro or head to college. The right-handed pitcher was the 395th overall pick. “It feels awesome to know all the hard work paid off,” Olson said. A first-team all-state selection as a senior in 2018, Olson was also a major part of North Hall’s 2017 state title team. Jared Oliver, a North Hall grad drafted in 2016 out of Truett-McConnell who is working his way through the Red Sox organization, has been in touch with Olson, telling him what pro baseball is like and what to expect. Olson said Oliver has been a “big help” in the decision process. Olson said four or five other teams had a similar interest level in him, with the Brewers and Cubs showing the most interest. North Hall coach Trevor Flow even thought Olson could have been picked higher. “It’s not a surprise that he went this high,” Flow said. “They see his upside.” Olson thanked his teammates and coaches for pushing him to reach this point. And while there’s certainly plenty to consider, either option is a winner for Olson. “Whatever happens, it’s a great decision,” Olson said. https://www.gainesvilletimes.com/sports/north-halls-olson-faces-decision-after-being-drafted-brewers/
  15. Wow, that's a pretty good high school coach! I think the baseball coach for my high school was the social studies teacher. Hey now lol social studies teachers make excellent coaches! Ha However, point very valid, it’d be pretty cool to have such an established professional player coaching you up! Loved watching Ty, always killed the Brewers! One of my fellow football coaches was a 4 year starting WR at Wisconsin which I think is real cool for the kids Great to hear he is excited & already to sign! Promising arm, can’t wait to see what he can do!
  16. Think it gets easy to forget how you guys like Diplan are. Both him & Grisham are still only 21. Gatewood & Mederois are 22, Nottingham just turned 23.
  17. Dargan Southard ✔ @Dargan_Southard One last update here. #Hawkeyes pitcher Brady Schanuel confirms he will indeed sign with the Brewers, which drafted him in the 27th round: https://dmreg.co/2LsfNUt Left hand power arm, big strikeout, big control issue pitcher. Probably Reliever down road but can never complain about lefty power arms signing! Was the 7th best Big 10 pro prospect coming into season but awful season dropped him. Was a 20th rd pick last year
  18. I’ve been going through draft & our minor league rosters & wow we are going to be young at both levels! I’m guessing we will need to sign some more udfa to fill out position players like last year. Not sure how they will break camp and the placements with how you & raw the groups are. A lot of the SSs will need to play 2b & 3B. All the CFs will need to rotate to all 3 spots. Best guess bases on rosters & draft picks I assume will sign Helena 1B Chad McClanahan 20 2B Yeison Coco 19 SS Antonio Pinero 19 UTMI Julio Mendez 22 3B Nick Egnatuk 19 C David Fry 22 OF Nic Pierre 21-22 Jesus Lujano 19 Je’von Ward 19 C Kekai Rios 21 OF 4 Pablo Abreu 19 Arizona 1B Ernesto Wilson Martinez 18-19 2B Kory Howell 19 SS Brice Turang 18 3B Jean Carmona 18 C Moises Perez 19/ Jose Sibrian 19 OF LG Castillo 18-19 OF Joe Gray 18 OF Micah Bello 17-18 OF Arbert Cipion 18 Too many pitchers to go through & no clue who all signs but a ton of young arms from last year & more coming in this year!
  19. Good read on Brandon Hylton who is a 6’6 220 1B from New Jersey. He is committed to Stetson which is really rising right now. Mixed with how raw he is, & the late pick... college seems likely imo https://www.tapinto.net/towns/warren/articles/former-watchung-hills-standout-brandon-hylton-awa
  20. While not the Dillard I called for yearly yesterday (Trey) can never go wrong with a Dillard in the system!
  21. Brewers love the Island, Rios is okay bat. Averaged around .285 over 3 years. Not much power or slugging but walks just as much as he ks. Both average around 15% of the time
  22. Clayton Andrews is very intriguing prospect at only 5’6. Huge K numbers. Spent two years in relieve.... transferred to Long Beach & converted to starter. Highest amount of Ks since Jered Weaver. LHP, sits 87-90 with great change, and slider he commands well. Also very good college bat for both schools. He’s a very confident kid who makes most of size
  23. Young arms like crazy right now! Garabitos very interesting & of pitchers outside of Hajjar, has the most tempting commitment. South Florida is pretty good program. Now seen him listened as pitcher & CF. Beasley as well with Arkansas but being home schooled, going to school for first time on a giant campus you’d think would be tougher transition. Be really interested to see which of these kids sign. We need to infuse system with young arms. Lemons, Murphy, Lazar, Bullock, & Lillis could use some more company
  24. A with good amount of hitters taken last year & with DSL guys starting to push up.... guess Brewers feel they need to fill a bunch of pitching spots. Only 7 position players taken with 6 likely to sign through round 24. Have to figure some college bats will start coming to fill Helena’s roster
  25. Peyton Zabel is 6’6 220 & was one of the top football (QB), basketball, and baseball players in state. Committed to play at D2 champ Augustana where he is set to compete for starting QB & a rotation spot. https://www.argusleader.com/story/sports/2018/06/06/pierres-peyton-zabel-drafted-19th-round-milwaukee-brewers/677857002/
