  1. I like Villar a lot & am really disappointed right now by him. Watching him at the plate try to pull every pitch & making dumb mistakes on bases is frustrating. I hope he snaps out of it. Needs to start maximizing his talent as he did last year.
  2. There has been a disconnect somewhere. Hopefully it has been figured out. Like I said, at this point it's not even about developing another Ace like Sheets or near ace like Yo but just guys who can make it to the club and produce. 20 games started is not even a whole season. The fact only 8 drafted/signed homegrown guys have made it blows my mind. Woodruff & Burns.... hopefully Lopez if he figures it out again can break that mold.
  3. Burnes.... this kid may be the real deal! At this rate we may see him in Milwaukee by next year....early next year. Look past April & Notthingham is starting to turn it on! I'd gladly take what he has done since start of May! Hopefully power starts to come. Easy to forget he just turned 22. Joangtel Segovia has made his adjustments and is starting to hit the way we thought he could. Not much power but a natural pure hitter
  4. Sadly it is not even the case that we have traded off minor league pitchers! Really only Odorizzi and maybe soon Banda are quality MLB SP's we have traded away. Going through those drafts were really depressing. You see guys who could have been very good but injuries crushed them (Nuegy, Jones, Rogers) but large majority are guys who never even became real prospects! Who would have thought that as of now, Jungmann who can't even perform in AA is the the 5th best SP pitcher we have drafted in last 20 drafts? Unreal. Time to start hitting on at least high floor 4-5 starters who can eat innings and give you 20+ starts a year. Not even worried about drafting all Ace's, for 2 decades we can't even get those type of guys developed.
  5. Not to hyjack this topic but I wanted to go back and actually look at the past 20 years and it is as ugly as we believed! Top 5 list 1. Ben Sheets 221 GS 25.6 WAR 2. Yovani Gallardo 211 GS 15.9 WAR 3. Mike Fiers 56 GS 4.6 WAR 4. Wily Peralta 120 GS 3.0 WAR 5. Jimmy Nelson 86 GS 2.6 WAR After that ONLY Parra and Jungmann have started over 20 games!!!!! Taylor Jungmann 27 GS (1.1) WAR Allen Levault 21 GS (-1.0) WAR Manny Parra 74 GS (-3.3) WAR This has to be one of the worst track records in baseball! In 20 drafts and the ability to sign internationally only 8 SPs have made over 20 starts for them! Jake Odorizzi has been has good as we all expected 108 GS 8.2 WAR so far. Only 27 and starting to hit his prime.
  6. Forgot to add Fiers. I think he actually could be ahead of both Nelson and Peralta still. The lack of consistency has not been there foe either of them. Fiers pretty much gave you quality starts consistently. 96 13. Allen Levrault (-1.0) 21 GS 97 1. Kyle Peterson (0.2) 14 GS 9. Matt Childers RP 0GS 98 1. JM Gold (Never) 2. Jordan Yamamoto (never) long shot 2015 1. Nathan Kirby (never) Big question mark, arm may never hold up 3. Cody Ponce (never) Has good chance to work his way up into rotation or RP role 16 Conor Habor & 27 Jon Perrin are longer shots but have a chance to at least get cups of coffee 8. Nate Griep looks to be good bullpen arm 2016 Far to early but... 4. Corbin Burnes looks like real deal and could be piece for future
  7. Crazy to think that after Sheets & Gallardo.... Jimmy Nelson & Peralta are probably battling for the 3rd best homegrown (drafted) SP in past 20 years.... Manny Parra may be only one standing in there way. Yikes! Thornburg was forced into pen too quick. Peralta & Parra were given longer leash. Nelson has been able to stick so far.
  8. According to Brewers.com, seems #35 is best bet for the future if Suter is willing to trade. It holds a lot of special meaning to Maverick. Congrats on first MLB hit kid! Franklin's job has to be in trouble. He has not been good at plate and seems to be the weakest part of our bench. DFA him and keep Phillips until Braun returns. With Sogard and Perez, is there much need for Franklin right now?
  9. Probably more of a joke but Brewers can send him back to Helena and let him experience some success. Lol kid is so young but due to the bonus people act like Miguel Cabrera or bust for him... He is only 19 and Brewers have been very aggressive with him. He will be fine. Some guys take longer (check Jake Gatewood who people were dropping and giving up on like crazy). Erceg has not been good in Carolina at 22 so far...[sarcasm].Maybe Coca can play 3b and replace him[/sarcasm] Sorry for little rant, all the hate this year on a 19 year old kid struggling in Wisconsin bugs me. Once Helena starts he will be back down and hopefully make the needed adjustments to tap into his potential. Back on topic....Man this trade could turn out great for us! Keep dealing DS!
  10. Travis Shaw was outstanding April and May 2016. His bat cooled as he fell into a slump in June. He improved for July but AB's really fell off July-October. August on out, terrible. Like many 1st year players getting first real taste of MLB, it can be hard to break out of those slumps. Then mix in losing AB's...tough. It was nice to see him hit that real rough patch earlier and storm right back from it. Nonetheless, he flashed well enough for the Brewers to believe their might be something there. From Day 1, Brewers had him down as starting 3B. Hard to think they didn't feel he could be the guy he was at the start of 2016. Love the Coco pick up! What a strong trade! Young, athletic, switch hitting, middle infielder, who has had a little success already. Hit for average (.308), had 29 walks, and hit 9 triples in little less than 300 PA's at 17! May never make it but can't complain about adding a young kid like that to the system!
  11. I wouldn't say we are a better team right now with Sogard over Villar. We are best with a Villar who is playing up to his level. I don't feel last year was a fluke. He has that kind of talent. Sogard is hot right now so you find ways to keep his bat in lineup but do I believe he is as good as he is playing right now and it is sustainable? No. Like others have stated, it is about the future. Villar has the talent to be a part of the future or at least a nice trade piece. You do what you can to get him going. The problem with being in 1st place is it causes so many people to start to switch gears from developing and building to wanting to win now. We are still very early in rebuild. Arcia is only big prospect in our system to take the jump to MLB yet. No pitchers. None of our OFs. Sogard is the win now approach since he is hot. Villar is the long-term develop approach. Stick with guys who are struggling and get them to where they need to be. Winning and playoffs are great and fun but winning means nothing to me right now. Simply a perk that gets the fair weather fans back into the stadium to increase revenue. I care about the long term success over short term. Dubon and Diaz are on the way, need to find out what you have with Villar and try to restore his value.
  12. Orlando Arcia has been clicking at plate lately! Great to see! Has to really help the confidence to be finally experiencing success! Thames hammy healing up! He's starting to hit again and hit a bomb today! The bench is extremely impressive! So many guys needs abs right now & CC is a manager who is great at handling the line ups to do so. Pina's pop times are completely off the charts! Never knew he was that impressive in that area. He also has 5 best arm per throw in majors right now. Maldy of course is #1 with nearly 85mph a throw. Still, 1.7 to 1.8 pop times with 81 mph arm for Pina is not too shabby at all! Add in the way he has been at plate.... Lucroy who? Lol
  13. Think you still need a AAA club for development. Such a difference in pitcher and hitters. All those crafty vet AAAA guys & MLB flameouts are an important step in development. A lot of things you can get away with in AA that won't fly in AAA & more so the majors. Few guys can handle that jump from AA to MLB unless they are "professional hitters" and crafty/polished pitchers. Just being a great arm stops stops flying a little bit once you hit AAA. Need to really understand more of the craft. Way I have always viewed it AA is the natural talent level AAA is the more professional/craft level That could just be me though
  14. Coulter & Nottingham continuing to heat up a bit is huge for that line up. Hopefully come June they both refine their power stroke. Both guys are too strong & have too much natural power to not find it. If those two start to hit the way they are capable, Biloxi can really start rolling. Maybe it's just being in Colorado inflating Phillips a little bit but my goodness is he just crushing the ball this season. The power from last year is starting to meet his hitting from two years ago. The Ks are still killers though and still hasn't been the same Brett who was a walk machine. Happy to see him rebound! He just has the personality you really cheer for & would love to have on your big league club! Def would be a fan favorite. Woodruff & Hader last few times out in Colorado have had rough times. Glad Brewers stayed so their top pitching prospects can go to drown every year....They need out. Super Mario at 18 all season in Wisconsin is mind blowing & I second the comment above! Nice thing is, while his bat is nice, I don't think it is yet to point where it is so advanced that his catching would take back seat. I know there are concerns about him moving off due to how advanced bat is over defense but at his age.... you do everything possible to develop him back there! He is too special of a bat for that position. He can go one level a year developing & still break MLB at age 22 season for 1st full season! All tools are there.
  15. I personally would like to see all position players at Carolina stay down until maybe late season promotions. To me they are all young enough that there is no need to rush them. Ray & Erceg are college bats so if they start going off maybe but love to keep this wave together. Come next year in AA it's fair game to break up & promote as earned. Pitchers are different Burnes & Ponce can go up.
  16. Biggest fear is Brewers rush it like Astros. I mean it has been working out with Astros but thought the started selling off deep farm a little too early. Like someone said just before, this rebuilding team.... trust the process. If we make WC with talent we have & call up...Great! But in no way should they even consider buying. I'd still sell certain players off to make room for the future like Woodruff & Hader to get experience.
  17. Gatewood is playing some serious ball. Errors are troubling at 1st but boy he is hitting & walking
  18. Outside of CS, Is there anyone who has been on Gatewood's level? Been consistent and doing everything you could hope for.
  19. I could see a Supak to Carolina, Burnes to Biloxi move coming soon! Both been simply lights out & dominating competition. Maybe it waits until a Colorado Springs spot opens with Wilkerson, Lopez, or Ventura moving up. Otherwise.... don't think Jungmann needs a starting spot.
  20. Really surprised by the lack of arms on list. The good news is there are probably some gems for cheaper out there for Brewers to steal. Have to figure there are more than 2 plus pitchers in the world in the international market.
  21. Keon Broxton and Trey Supak for Jason Rogers.... may be early but I'm pretty sure that one will go down as a win for Sterns! Supak just dominant yet again for TRats! He's been lights out for them!
  22. Anyone else really like Wren as a 4th OF? I really he gets a chance somewhere if not with Brewers. He is a darn good ball player
  23. McKenzie is really really really good.... I was praying for him in possible Lucroy trade. Young & loaded with upside & talent. I was much more okay with all the Ks tonight when I saw who was doing damage.
  24. Clark & Ray have both been steadily dropping their K rate. Clark has a 113 wRC+ 2nd highest on team. With all the Ray criticism as of late he has outperformed Erceg. Erceg is struggling bad but people tend to overlook that. His OPS is sub .600. Hopefully he will get hot soon. Really encouraged though with how Clark & Ray have been turning it around. Hopefully come late May/June they are rolling.
  25. Think Woodruff as surpassed Hader for the 1st pitching prospect called up. Doesn't matter where he has been pitching.... he has been dominate! Freddy Peralta K numbers are off the chart! Diplan with a 2nd straight good outing. Hit streak continues for Gatewood! Disappointing when you see Colorado had big offensive day but none of it from Phillips, Brinson, Cordell
