Garza getting hit pretty good by 20-22 year old A ballers.... not surprised
-
If he is legit, run with it. Not sure GMs are going to buy all in based off Korea & half a season in majors of success. Aguilar gives an open door to do it but outside of him, Cooper & DeMuth aren't going to be the guys. Gatewood with continual progress is still 2-3 years away.... We have a fun & exciting lefty bat on good contract. He is also versatile. Ride it out. I wouldn't trade him until at earliest next deadline if he proves real. That will be height of his market imo. 31, proven track record, and still year & a half left of decent price tag control. Me personally, despite all the homeruns, I don't miss Davis. He is an AL guy period. He was not a good defensive LF. Players could take all the extra bases in the world off him without hesitation. Absolute noodle for an arm. I enjoy Defensive of players. 40+ HRs is cool but much more to baseball than that. He can DH & play bad LF defense only. Not good for what Brewers like & are looking for.

Link Report for Sunday 4/16 - Peter Cottontail Edition
Jenkins5 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Thing with Biloxi is they have guys who should hit there who just aren't right now. Roache, Coulter, Dubon, Reed and Nottingham are all capable of hitting or bringing power to line up but really it's Demuth, Houle & Ortega doing literallay everything for their offense right now. Very disappointing so far. Hopefully some click soon. -
With Anderson & Nelson rolling, we stand at least a chance to win 2 of 3 vs Cubs! Obviously we have Milone in game 3 so unless our bats go nuts, I'll chalk that one as a lose. Thames... guy could hit 50 this year. He swings like a hammer!

Who would have thought out of gates it would be Gatewood & Aviles being the offensive stars in that loaded lineup? Only week & half in but both are showing outstanding growth. Now with Ray back, hopefully him, Diaz, Erceg, Clark can really get going. Offense has so much potential! Pitching staff is good enough to keep them in any game. I see zero reason barring any promotions, that this team shouldn't at least the 1st half of the season. Nice to see Phillips have a good game at plate. Now putting a few of those together in a row is next step. Cooper Overbay keeps streak alive at I believe 10 games! Hader 2nd 1 hit Outing but 9bbs in those two games. -
The 2017 MLB Draft Thread (#9 Pick + #34 & #46)
Jenkins5 replied to ZBTMP's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Thanks for the report Colby! I just get info from reading around. I think he has a ton of upside. What I meant by that is from what I have read it seems for a high school arm, he has a higher floor than most of the other ones out there. He is not as a boom or bust. There is always risk of course. To me he seems like a Trent Clark who is more advanced coming out of high school. I very well could be wrong. I'm far from a scout. -
Arcia with another could hits tonight! Even if he is not a star or even that great with the bat right now. He needs a long lease. Let him go through the struggles & learn. We wanted him to be Lindor coming up but his bat is behind. That is what a rebuild process is for. He is will be 22 almost all season. Defensively alone he is an asset to this team. His bat isn't going to be what keeps us from contention this season. All we are looking for is growth from last year. If he hits .240 & can manage a .300 obp. That is encouraging to me. Needs get those walks which is a struggle. Get back to lower K totals that he had in minors, and just put ball in play & see what happens. One thing is he's been battling up there and making pitchers throw a lot of pitches to him. That's a good start.

The 2017 MLB Draft Thread (#9 Pick + #34 & #46)
Jenkins5 replied to ZBTMP's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
D.L. Hall I feel offers that advanced feel Montgomery looks for to go high school first round. My feel so far from Montgomery is that he doesn't mind high school or college as much as he cares about polish or advanced feel for pitching or hitting. Like I could not see Ray going for the boom or bust potential like Adell in early 1st at 9. He likes the talented but still safe types. Hall is I feel is going to be a very talented pitcher but more importantly has a really nice floor to start at -

2017 Green Bay Packers draft preview and predictions
Jenkins5 replied to LouisEly's topic in Off-Topic Forum
Very interested how this draft falls. Really there is one lock in this draft. Outside of #1, it can get wild. It's deep without much seperation between prospects. We know Leonard, Allen, Thomas, Howard, and Adams all stand above. Hooker maybe in that group. Outside of that, it's a crap shoot based on team preference. There are few players I think you can't pass up on if you are GB if they are there. 1. Cook, no way you let that special of a complete back walk. He instantly make our offense more explosive. As a runner & receiver. Maybe he is similar skill set at Ty but I'd take him any day. He can carry the load for a team. I really don't think he is far off from Leonard but doesn't have man child build with the speed. 2. True Outside CB. Lattimore, White, Conley are 3 outside guys who could make immediate impact. Lattimore won't drop but who knows with other two. 3. Peppers He is a toy & like Mattheis he is simply a player all over field. Dom's packages can range from Slot CB, SS, FS, Outside CB, MLB. Be one of top Returners in game. If injuries come at RB or WR.... he can play there. TT loves football players & that is what he is. 4 Watt. Good chance all those guys are gone. Watt is special. Motor doesn't stop, relentless, explosive, and playmaker. Packers need another one like that. He is a lot like a young CM3 After that it's who ever in next on their board. -
Giannis is really good but Westbrook is the best player in the league right now. Some other guys like Harden can make a strong case but at end of the day, what Westbrook is doing this season absolutely unreal.

1. This team looks like it'll be pretty bad. Take the under on 70 wins. True right now. CC had to get these guys to start playing good baseball. Errors, baserunning & Ks can't stay at this pace. They are playing ugly brand of ball right now. 2. Perez was a one year wonder who hit his ceiling last year. Overreaction He is what he is. He can play great defense everywhere. That alone has great value. His bat is nice. He won't walk because it's never been his thing but he barrels up ball. It's not like he is not hitting ball hard. Just not finding holes. 3. Broxton's 2nd half 2016 was a fluke, we wont see that player again. Overreaction It's coming, just wait for it. The tear is on it's way. Have teammate hit him in nuts every time he swings at tempting unhittable high fastballs... he"lol figure it out quicker. 4. Aguilar should get as many ABs as Thames this year. True, his approach at plate is wonderful to watch right now. His defense is much better than I expected. Guy can play & is energized to finally get an opportunity to prove worth. 5. Peralta, Nelson, and Anderson will all be better than Davies this year. Peralta & Nelson yes. Anderson no. 6. This team will break the all time MLB strikeout record of 1543 - set by the 2016 Brewers Very well could be true 7. Villar will never play passably well anywhere in the IF. Overreaction He had excel range at SS, great strong arm, has tools.... but like lot of his game, he has a lot of lapses. Think he will be fine as season goes on. He is not Rickie or Gennett out there. He really has the skill set to be plus defensive 2B. Give it time to click. Seems he is living in his own head right & cant break mental block.
-
Reliving Segura situation over again this 1st week. Turn down big contact & then drops off. However, Villar I believe will bounce back. He never got going in spring & just seems out of whack right now. Overall Brewers as a whole outside very few (Shaw, Aguilar, Braun, Pina and Thames) have been pretty terrible. In the end, Villar's job is to raise stock this year & maybe next to clean up in trade. While he is one of my favorites on the team.... Dubon & Diaz will be knocking soon. Diaz I feel is the future.

Only worse match for a series for Bucks is Cavs than Rapters. For whatever reason the Bucks just tank every game vs. them. This has been a problem for a couple years now.

1 L. Brinson 2. J. Hader 3. I. Diaz 4. L. Erceg 5 B. Woodruff 6. C. Ray 7. L. Ortiz 8. M. Dubon 9. T. Clark 10. M. Diplan 11.B. Phillips 12. P. Bickford 13. C. Ponce 14. R. Cordell 15. J. Lopez 16. J. Gatewood 17. G. Lara 18. T. Williams 19. M. Harrison 20. N. Kirby 21. F. Peralta 22. J. Nottingham 23. C. Burns 24. D. Orimoloye 25. M. Feliciano

22 is the mean age for Midwest League and 20 for entire season is still considered young. 23 for Carolina League. His OPS is killed by his inability to walk. It took him until July to reach 6 walks.... he has 5 in 3 games now. He simply had a terrible approach with two strikes. I remember watching him last year. I even told my six year old daughter every time he had two strikes, watch breaking ball outside...he'll chase and strike out. It was terrible. Ahead in count .291 .374 .513 .887 Behind in count 183 .185 .303 .488 If he is fixing that as he appeared to be doing in spring and now, he can start to make big strides. At one time he was considered a lock top 10 pick. That potential is there still. Not to mention he is an outstanding defensive 1b. Like you said, this is what makes it fun. We all pick our favorites and he was my favorite boom or bust pick that year. He has been frustrating but I'm an optimist lol
-
.661 last year, and wasn't young for low A ball. He has a shot, but doesn't dream prospect to me. ? Since when is 20 not young for MWL? He has has moments in Helena & last year were he has been fantastic. His number one issue has always been contact & lack of walks. Approach & long swing have been an issue. He has all the potential. He has been considered very boom or bust since drafted due to how raw he is. A lot of guys like him take little longer to develop. If this spring & start is really due to changes he's made to approach & swing & he can sustain walks and making contact.... he could bounce back as a prospect. He will be 21 all season in A+.... that's not bad at all prospect status.

2017 Green Bay Packers draft preview and predictions
Jenkins5 replied to LouisEly's topic in Off-Topic Forum
With Martinez, Ryan, Thomas, and Clay I see no need in one either. The other issue is this isn't a very good year for LBs either. Last year the year to target MLB early. DL depth would be great, haven't found too many good targets I like yet -
Seeing box scores with Gatewood every day may be my favorite thing! Also when do we start taking Aviles serious as a prospect? He is really do his best to force us to.

2017 Green Bay Packers draft preview and predictions
Jenkins5 replied to LouisEly's topic in Off-Topic Forum
So to breakdown this deep deep deep draft I think it is easier to seperate them by the type of corners they are Physical & Impossing CBs These are the guys who are extremely physical, big, nasty type CBs. All can cover very well but are going to give WRs fits. 1. Q. Wilson Florida 1-2 grade 2. M. Humphrey Alabama 1 grade by most scouts 3 C. Tankersley Clemson 2 grade 4. F. Moreau UCLA 3-4 grade Lock-Down These are guys who are flat out outside cover corners. These are guys who may or may not be overally physical but they they can lock a guy down, are athletic with good ball skills. 1 Lattimore OSU 1 grade 2. T. White LSU 1 grade 3. S. Jones Washington 2-3 grade (my favorite but injuried :/ ) 4. G. Conley OSU 1-2 grade 5. T. Tabor Florida 2-3 grade (speed & off-field hurts) 6. C. Sutton UT 2-3 grade 7. H. Wilson Houston 3-4 grade 8. S. Griffin USF 3-4 grade Slot CB or Combo slot/SS These are guys who are tweeners or CBs who are better served inside. 1. J. Peppers UM 1 grade combo 2. D. King Iowa 2 grade combo 3. J. Lewis UM 2-3 grade cover 4. C. Awuzie Colorado 2-3 grade combo 5. A. Jackson USC 2 grade cover 6. D. Kazee SDST 3-4 grade cover 7. C. Elder Miami 4 grade cover Length WR CBs These are the Richard Sherman types. Incredible size, ball skills, and will match up against the big receivers of the day. 1. K. King Washington 2 grade 2. A. Witterspon Colorado 2-3 grade 3. R. Douglas WV 3 grade For me, it'd be nice to to grab two CBs in rounds 1-4. Id diversify between the groups. Favorites Obviously, Lattimore & White will not last. I'm high on them. Humphrey will be gone but since he struggles covering deep routes that's fine. Sidney Jones is guy before injury I'd have only behind Lattimore. I really thing he good end up being top lockdown corner in future. G. Conley was really good this season. Has every skill you could wish for outside of being a terrible tackler. Most important he has improved drastically each year at OSU. J. Lewis is smaller but would be a C. Hayward in the slot. He'd lockdown slots with great ball skillls. Just watch Wisconsin game again. D. King really is a faster Micah Hyde. Not really made fore the outside in NFL but can lock down slots or play SS. However, if you want more of a bigger, tougher Combo Awuzie is way to go. Dislike Gunter but love his size & ability to line up with those big WRs? King, Witterspon, Douglas are just that but all are much better athletes & have better ball skills. H. Wilson was dumb for coming out so early. Outstanding Freshman year and dropped this year a bit. Could have been one of top corners next year. That all said, all the talent & size there -
Brewers have 3 guys who all deserve a shot sooner than later if we are going to prepare to compete. I know it's only 1 start but all three looked like the dominant guys we expect. Hader, Woodruff, and Lopez are building blocks for the future hopefully. I don't always agree with Briggsy but he is right to an extent. We slow our path to future competitiveness the longer we wait to get these guys experience. Biloxi is too easy for all 3. Colorado Springs is worthless & can be damaging mentally to them. Neither are preparing them for what's next. Now I do agree for some that service time is very important. As of right now, Lopez is the one I'd call up. I believe Hader & Woodruff are developing into very special TOR arms. Lopez has been in majors before and really I don't think his ceiling is as high as the others. I don't feel in 6 years we would regret not waiting to start his clock. I'd even start Woodruffs right now. Hader is only one I wait out.

2017 Green Bay Packers draft preview and predictions
Jenkins5 replied to LouisEly's topic in Off-Topic Forum
Things I'd like to see is A RB & CB in first 3 rounds. A QB like J. Dobbs in the 5th or 6th. Guy is brilliant. Probably work for NASA once football is done. Has the arm and legs as well. Let him learn and push Hundley. A plug and play Guard somewhere 2-4th round. Lamp will probably be gone but like Feeney and Johnson. You need one edge guy in first 5 rounds If they are worried about Adams and resigning, Zaye Jones is a carbon copy. I would mind him in round 2. Not many WR I am high on in draft though. Someone mention Ross earlier in round 1. I actually wouldn't mind. When we deal with a roster full of guys who aren't burners, having that one guy who can flat out beat every DB on the field for a WR threat and a QB like Rodgers....that is scary. Cobb is a possession guy. Adams is big and physical and goes and gets balls. Jordy is big, incredible route runner, a strider, who is 100% on page with Rodgers (not really a burner though) then Allison is just a big WR who is a strider. With Ross for teams to worry about over the top with speed alone, how much more does that open up Bennett, Jordy, Adams? Defense has killed us though. We need to address it. Once again I dislike this years OLB,ILB, and DL class. Maybe a Beckwith in round 4 at MLB? We can sure up DB in this draft but realistically, outside of adding depth, not sure we find plug and play studs at any of those 4 positions. If I had to Mock which probably won't even be close I'd go with these two. The OR seperates the two mock drafts 1. RB Cook or DB Peppers 2. CB Tinkersley or RB Mixon 3. OG Isadora or OLB R. Williams 4. ILB Beckwith or CB H. Wilson 5. OLB Biegel OR OG Harlow 5. WR A. Scott or SS Woods 6. QB Dobbs OR J. Dobbs 7. Anyone -
2017 Green Bay Packers draft preview and predictions
Jenkins5 replied to LouisEly's topic in Off-Topic Forum
Like I said with Jones, all depends on injury reports. I think he may be the best corner in the class but all depends on that achilles. King from Washington is probably the most intriguing CB. Who knows where he will fall. Like Peppers, this CB class is so deep and so close, it all is team by team assessments where they go and when the CB run starts. Peppers could go top 10 could fall to early 2nd. King is a bit of a project. As all the talent in the world. He is a 6'3 WR type corner like Sherman but his came isn't finished and will take some time. Jones is a day 1 starter if he didn't get hurt. Ive been reading last few days Lattimore may drop out of 1st round or fall to late first. It really is a crap shoot. Peppers fits our defense perfect. I love the potential of Howard Wilson. He reminds me of Casey Hayward. Natural ballhawk and if he is there round 4...I snatch him. Best thing about this class...They are all bigger CBs! Only 4 of top 20 are below 5'11. Think 15 are all 6'0+ 190-200 lbs! At RB I stay away from McCaffrey as much as I love him because he is to similar as Ty. Neither will carry the load. If Cook fall, no way you pass on him. After that, you Karama or Mixon who offer that complete back who can play every down explosively. If you want to replace Lacy type back...get a bruiser who will hammer the ball and wear teams down, you are looking at Foreman or Perine in rounds 2-3 or a Conner in mid to late rounds. Mack or Gallman are two guys in round 3-4 who could shine as well. We have options. -
Under the radar prospects you are looking forward to following

Luis Aviles surprised a lot last year.... looks like he wants to again. He is on my radar even more now
