Bubba Derby gets no love but kid looks like a young, dominant Tyler Thornburg. Be really interesting to see how much he will leap if he picks up where he left off last year. Jake Nottingham is a stellar get in my opinion. Brewers have been cleaning up on former Astro 6th round picks who blossomed to star prospects (Phillips & now Nottingham). Overall, Stearns already knew a ton about him from working in the Houston & is a player he had targeted and really wanted.....The way Ray Montgomery really pushed for Isan Diaz (my speculation) to be a top target from DBacks.

No possible way you get both Brinson & Tate in a deal together without including someone else. Brinson stock has been blowing up, Tate stock is also pretty high. Already top 50-60 ranked player after only 20ips

Brewers will not loss 100 games this season & they are not designed to really. For Brewers to lose 100, Every player on roster needs to play there worse season. It's not tanking. They aren't losing to get draft picks & slot money. They are trading away guys for young prospects who by the end of this season could just explode up prospect lists. You don't get a Diaz once he is in AA or AAA when he is a possible elite prospect. You get him right before he soars. I think it's wrong to say that if Diaz was in AA or AAA the trade would be less like ranking. Regardless of age or level, the only goal is to bring in the best talent to our system. DS has done that. If we had to trade off most of our value at the MLB level to bring in possible future top notch players, I don't consider that tanking. Tanking is when you intentionally construct a line up to lose for draft placement. I in no way see that as DS's plan. If he did, he doesn't bring in guys like Hill & Carter. What DS is doing is sacrificing the now to aquire top notch talent for the future. That is his purpose, not to loss intentionally. Very limited ways to bring in high ceiling prospects.

2016 International Signing Thread
Jenkins5 replied to Jenkins5's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Can't complain about that at all. -
Think the way syllabols are broken down is the biggest reason. There would be a break between the wa/demi. So you actually say Demi in name but wade you don't. U'd say Wa/de (with short vowel) Plus Demi sounds much cooler & makes him even more like a "Demi-God"
-
I could care less if we have 20 OF top prospects and zero 1B or 3B. That should not factor into the trades. You take best possible value with the most upside. If you have a log jam you then make more trades. Brinson is starting to look like he could be a star without the major bust concerns of Gallo. I would take Gallo if that is what is there but Brinson is the one I want. He offers so much more to his game. Defense, power, hit tool, can get on base, steal bases, and doesn't strike out at a 35-45% clip
-
I think Brinson is the most must get in there system. I agree position doesn't matter. Create the biggest logjam you can and take top 3 guys. Brinson & Phillips in the same OF would be pretty electric. Those are two guys who can fly around! Slide Brinson to RF. Move Braun/Domingo to LF depending who is the guy when the time comes in 2017.

You mean Lucroy, Smith, and Khris Davis for Giolito right? He is about as untouchable as they come. Lucroy is good but nearly good enough to land a Ace who is on the door step and will be cheap for 6 years. Washington is about to pay Harper 35+ million a season, they aren't going to give away a cheap ace for jelly beans. Now if he was in Rookie ball or the A- A+ range, yest it could have worked but not when he is at his highest value about to hit the bigs. Really you need to trade a top notch franchise player like a Kersaw, Greinke, Cabrera, Trout, Price, type player to get him and Lucroy is not on that level. I'd be fine with a pitcher heavy deal. Never can have too many high ceiling arms. Tate, Jurado, Payano, and Brett Martin Overall you need to add someone with Lucroy if you want the grand package like the Houston deal. In no way would I say Lucroy is that much more worth than Gomez. Originally Gomez was going to net Wheeler & Flores or Santana, Hader, Houser ish. So have to assume that is what we are looking at for a return. I want
-
Glad to see the one many crush all over, Ryan Cordell free falling to 16, closer to where he belongs. Jurado will be in most peoples top 10 come this season. He essentially is a 20 year old Jorge Ortega how with an ability to miss bats usually around a 8+ K/9. I say Ortega because he is a pinpoint command guy, Jurado at younger age offers much better stuff. He has some power projections as well topping out with a sinking 95 mph fastball. Overall I'm still sticking to my guns of Brinson or Mazara / Jurado OR Mendez/ Then one of the following Fobres, Guzman, Taveras, Payano, Yrizarri, B. Martin, Beras (tough to swing) Overall we might be get a little more overall value if we drop from Gallo to Brinson or Mazara. If we get Gallo, we aren't getting much else. I will not touch Ortiz no matter the potential, his weight will be a huge battle for him his entire career. It would be the Ed Lacy type discussion every season until he eventually gone. He has a cupcake and he gains 15 pounds. Matuella I have now crossed off since he also has new back issues if his arm issues were not enough. He has all the potential to be a frontline guy but Mark Rogers very well could be his career path. Cordell no thank you ever! We can do better than AAAA 5th OF prospects. Tate I'd take but I struggle to find a good package around him that would include a bat that I'd like. A arm heavy deal like Tate, Mendez or Jurado, and then a high upside bat like Forbes or Tavares (really would love to bring him in....they gave us bonus baby Diplan last year) would be fine. Morgan is a guy who is very intriguing with his approach and bat but with his size, not sure I'd ever settle in a 3B. Basically would be just another 2B/SS prospect. Kivlehan is older and still far to unrefined. I won't take. Eric Jenkins- I would not be shocked what so ever if Jenkins is included in any deal with Rangers based on all the talk and pre draft rumors linking Brewers to him. Brewers must have shown plenty of signs they were pretty interested in him and he fits the bill of what Brewers are looking for. He has incredible speed. I won't be shocked if he steals 50-60 bases this season in A ball. He walks at 11% clip and has solid hit tool. Power is not part of game right now now, not much of an OF arm but he is a good snag. Mendez fits the DS bill perfect for a pitcher. Big projectable lefty who is growing and adding power. Most important he has great feel for pitching and controlling the zone while still K'ing around 1 per Inning. I'd be very happy with either Jurado or Mendez coming back in any deal he have with Texas. Both are 20 -21 years old and have plenty of upside.

Giolito is a silly pipe dream. Lucroy does not have that type of value to land the top pitching prospect in all of the minors. Lucroy & Smith probably don't scratch surface still. It is great to think about but not realistic. Not many teams are going to give up 6 years of what is seen to be a future Ace who will be ready very soon for 2 years of Lucroy. People on here deeply overvalue Lucroy.

Really, a "3rd baseman of future" is not important right now. Manny Machado was the SS of the future for the O's....where does he play now? Many SS become 2B's of the future as well. 3B's & OF's of future can sometimes come 1B of the future. Saying we have no 1st base of the future could be completely wrong if next year Brewers move Coulter to 1B after he has a monster AA season. If we need a high level "3B of the future" right now, well hopefully that is Cecchini is that guy or over the next season or two, Stearns brings one in through trade. I think very well that Gatewood or Lara could be 3b's of the future. Gatewood could even move to 1st base with his power stroke and fielding ability in the future as his body matures. We spend too much time concerning ourselves with targeting positions to fill. Ultimately, a good GM is targeting versatile guys with high ceilings to come in and help, regardless of position. Bring in as much talent as possible and let the positions sort themselves out. Keeping loading up on 18-20 year old high ceiling guys and see where they work out in the end.
-
If Smith once again thrives especially in the closer role (guessing him and Jeffress will be sharing the duties), his value will be on par with what the market has been for relievers as of late. You absolutely do not throw Smith or Jeffress in. Those are back in guys who could bring at least two good prospects back a piece..... Smith with a great year or first half could bring 3-4.
-
Love this trade and that is more where I am at except I am all in Franco coming back with Robles. He has so much potential as a corner IF which is something we could really start to infuse into the system. Feddie would be alright though. Im not overly high on him but getting one pitcher back would be nice. With Robles our OF of the future is insane, if these guys develop, we will be able to fill a future super star OF and have many more trade pieces to fill the holes we need to elsewhere.

2016 Minor Leagues Starting Pitchers by Level
Jenkins5 replied to Mr Southpaw's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
MLB Nelson Garza Peralta Anderson Jungmann AAA Davies Lopez Hader Houser Cravy/Suter .....Cravy would be a terrific bullpen arm, his spot on the SP depth chart has fallen a bunch. Him face planting last season in his audition doesn't help. Feel Suter as a crafty lefty offers more in rotation. Burgos can start his career as AAAA long reliever. AA Yawn... Ortega Wang Woodruff H.Johnson Salas/Hirsch/Hall one of them A+ Drooling..... Medieros William, D Ponce Ventura Burkhalter A Wisconsin Usually under Nichols it was 1 or 2 lone starters the rest piggyback, we will see how it is now with Flanigan I just gave all 5 piggy backs Eric Hanhold/ Jon Perrin D. Missaki/ Milton Gomez Marcos Diplan/ Miguel Diaz Nate Griep/ J. Drossner Freddy Peralta/Trey Supak R+ Depends on draft.... Yamamoto Walters Fortuna Lindell Desquin -
2016 Minor Leagues Starting Pitchers by Level
Jenkins5 replied to Mr Southpaw's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Burgos to me does not pitch over any real prospects. Cravy has great stuff to slide back into the pen. Not buying Cravy ever making the Brewer rotation again unless most other guys arms fall off. This is Stearns & Flanigans show now. Nichols is out so I forsee our most talented prospects getting 1st dibs to the level they need to be at. I think they will be more aggressive with placements. Houser helped carry that team down the stretch in the playoffs. He has nothing to prove in AA & has a brighter MLB future compared to many other guys. They should be smart enough to start future MLB players over career AAAA types -
in trade with Nationals, maybe they take Ramos as well.
-
This is a massive understatement. The Lucroy return will be huge for the future of the franchise. Stearns will likely be getting at least 3 players back. Get all three right and that could be the future. Mess it up and it could extend the rebuild 2-3 years. Depends, if you are taking Gallo or Turner, you're prob not getting 3 back unless we add someone. Brinson & Mazara probably only get you 2 prospects as well. Brinson & Jurado or Mazara and Mendez would probably be best we get with those guys. Daniels is too smart to pay much more. Brinson & Ortiz would probably be a pretty popular pick but think that is more than Rangers will give now that Brinson and Mazara are considered top 20 prospects in basball. Don't be shocked if a deal with the Nationals is centered around Victor Robles. He is a metric hero, has five tools, and is only 18 going on 19 in May. With Robles, you can get more value out of the trade and slip in a couple more prospects. Turner is close to MLB and a top 10 prospect in baseball, you're not getting much else in package. Robles seems like a guys Stearns and his staff would drool over and force him into any deal. My top 5 others to target OF (#3)Victor Robles 19 year old, A ball 3B (#10) Anderson Franco 18 yr old, A- or A SP (#5)Reynaldo Lopez 22, AA C (Top 20) Raudy Read 22, A+ or AA RHP Maximo Valerio, 20, A Lucroy for Robles, Franco, & Valerio all high upside guys to blossom into top prospects. Many people will dislike it because how far away the players are or say it isn't enough but I am very high on them. Robles and Franco have all the talent to soon be top prospects in system and MILB.
-
I don't think he showed last year in AAA that he was ready. I'm all for him getting a look though. His lack of CF experienced mixed with how big he is getting (in a good way but looking more like a LF) makes me think he will never be more than a fill in CF. I would strongly disagree he has more upside than Lirano. He may be able to steal a few more bases and walk a little more but Liriano wasn't the #49 best prospect in baseball for no reason. Broxton is another guy who is like a Lorenzo Cain type who has all the tools to be understanding....it is if he puts them all together. Essentially Broxton is what we were hoping D'Vo Richardson would be able to offer us.
-
Keep in mind Gennett is younger than Walsh. In the time he was playing in the majors Walsh was mostly in A and AA. He has a total of a 147 ab's above AA. He OPSed .703 over those ab's. I get it's nice to see what they new guy has to offer but lets be realistic about his upside. He certainly isn't likely to out hit Gennett this season. Nor will he get us anywhere near the trade Gennett can bring us if he can hit right handers like he generally does. Walsh should not be getting starts over a younger player who has shown he can actually hit above the AA level several years ago just because he's the shiny new toy. I get he had a great season in AA last year. However, as guys like Hunter Morris show, any player can have a good season and still not be very good. Just like a 25 year old who has a tough year in the majors doesn't necessarily mean he's permanently regressed. It was worth taking a shot on Walsh due to the team's situation. If he makes it as a major league player all the better. But to take over as a starter from someone younger than he is who has already shown he can actually hit major league pitching in his still young career? No thank you. People tend to overlook things such as age. Scooter is a proven at worse to be a .300 platoon hitter facing righties. I still think until someone else really pushes Scooter off of 2B, he will continue to be part of this team.

I find the love for the rebuilding process curious around here
Jenkins5 replied to Oxy's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Doesn't matter if it is 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 or so on. You bring enough great talent into your system, eventually it will pay off. It took Pirates and Royals awhile but if you just keep stock pilling and loading up, eventually you will find guys who will hit for you. Stearns and his staff I think are really good in this area. Not every prospect is going to work out but if you have enough high end guys, some of them will reward you at the MLB level....others will reward you in trades to get guys you need to compete. I think with the talent we are infusing, regardless of winning, we are a fun team to watch 2017-2019. Will hopefully be like 2005-2007 (When Hardy, Hart, Prince, Weeks, etc started coming). Watching players grow and develop and seeing the transition in level of play is super exciting. Don't put time tables on it, believe in the process, & that Stearns and his excellent staff know what they are doing. Its not like the pre-DM era where the Brewers had no real plan in place to improve the franchise or minor league system. Overall, if Arcia & Phillips are not playing like Domingo last season and just dominating....don't call them up just to call them up. Develop them and make sure they are ready. If we don't see Arcia or Phillips until August or September, that is complete fine for me. -

Jenkins5 replied to Oxy's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
As of right now, if we were in any other division that didn't have 3 97-100 win quality teams in it, I'd say we actually won't be too bad at all this year. Really 1B Carter 2B Gennett SS Villar 3B Hill C Lucroy LF Davis CF Santana RF Braun we have a lot of depth and competition going on this spring. We still have a strong Bullpen and our starting rotation is not bad if guys like Garza & Peralta bounce back, Nelson & Jungmann continue to develop, and Anderson is consistent. Villar as potential to be a very good player. It now sounds like CC will play Santana in CF and corners (find ways to get him on the field. Carter may not hit for great average but his 35+ HRs and his ability to still get on base by walking as much as he does helps. Gennett will go back to playing the way he does. He had bad first couple months and was back to his .300 hitting ways rest of the season. This team is in no way a hopeless 100 loss team people like to claim. Last season from July on, they were nearly a .500 team. The 1st 2 month last season, literally every Brewer outside of Lind was injured or brutally bad. June they started to get healthy and perform better, by July they we what they are. Our roster is really no different than the .500 club we finished season up with. -
BC is brutal on hitters, more so ones with power..... I'd let him build confidence in Wisconsin and continue to have success before he must go through the BC grind. No need to rush him. Let him develop with our next way. He has only played in R+. Really we are in no hurry, develop him right, let his success carry him forward to promotions.

2016 Minor Leagues Starting Pitchers by Level
Jenkins5 replied to Mr Southpaw's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Houser got moved to MLB as a call-up unless he is absolutely brutal in spring, he is in AAA. He is a priority prospect. He I believe goes above Burgos, Hall, & Suter. Cravy best chance in big leagues will be as a RP so I would be surprised to see him transition this season Moreover you forgot Burkhalter who I expect to be in BC, he was nearly as good as Williams, Kodi, & Ventura. Only will be 20 this season. Worst case he will be in Wisconsin as there Ace
