  1. I agree with the second aspect of this that they need to be promoted more liberally during season. You look at many of the other top teams and systems like Houston & Texas, many of their top players will play at two even three levels in a year. They show what they have, get promoted, they continue to shine, keep pushing them. As a teacher and coach, to me personally, holding a young prospect back does more harm than good mentally. That disappointment, failure, and doubt stemming from it can easily creep into mind set. Now that is if a player performed and had earned a promotion to get a step closer to their dream. If they were awful or didn't play at a level to justify a promotion then, oh well. You also what to find the sweet spot between challenge and success. Where they are not going to be over their heads nor should they just be walking on water. With Phillips or Hader, you don't want them to go out there and just play gowdy where they are not being challenged at all. Hader needs to face those older, AAAA players and learn to deal & overcome the failures that come with Colorado Springs. He will have to pitch in Coors at some point in his career. Phillips needs to face those crafty AAAA pitchers. AA & AAA are different and it takes adjusting. I am convinced that if Coulter would have been promoted when he was red hot last year prior to the air becoming too dense, thick, and destroying any powers hitters ability to cut through it; he would have came up to AA and would have performed. Literally, I will say it forever, BC is so brutal on power hitters once June comes. If you have lift to your swing, everything is just going to die out. Ball simply doesn't travel. Guys who have success are our line-drive and slappy type guys. Your Taylor, McFarland, Scooter, Arcia, Cooper (Overbay Jr.) types.
  2. Wonder how many more outs they can get on the bases this series
  3. No RBI is awarded for a run scoring on a double play. Hmmm well as my college professor use to say every day "guess that's why you wake up in morning, learn something new every day" ha Yup, served that up for Crawford nicely
  4. Saw a clip of Diaz BP & love his swing and approach! Ball shots off bat like rocket! Wherever, the pitch was, was where he roped it as well! Middle middle, in pull, out oppo and I love to see that
  5. Why isn't that a RBI for Flores? I never knew that. Even if you hit into double play, you still brought that run home.... Is Brian just blowing smoke or for 28 years have I somehow never know that?
  6. Yeah 17 will be tough, Sheets couldn't ever even get there on those teams he was stuck on. Love the new uniforms with them bringing in the old yellow, ball & glove, with the a little lighter navy blue Nice snag for Villar
  7. Since CC biggest mistake was believing Peralta & not Nelson was the Ace of this staff. Time for Jimmy to prove to CC why he is top dog. If Offense backs him a little this year I give him 17 wins
  8. Only thing disappointing about this is that Davies prob gets call over Lopez. Like Davies but I'm a big Lopez fan! Davies will always be that back end crafty guy. Lopez could be a Yo type pitcher
  9. Perez I have no concerns with drafting even though he is a SS. One) he is so gifted defensively, his bat is making huge gains, really good speed, and his age is appealing. Two) Young talent SS have such value, either Arcia or him (whoever is not future at the time) can be moved a center piece in a major trade to upgrade elsewhere. Three) You can build his versitility to include 2b, 3b, & OF if he keeps growing, power keeps developing, and he stays as athletic ( the anti Hanley Ramirez who just let self go) OFs,definitely just Corner guys, don't have the type of value as a SS if bat & defense is above average to really good.
  10. Ian Anderson is climbing up but still mostly considered outside of the top 15. Think mostly because he sits in low 90's (even though projectable) he doesn't have that standout power arm most scouts are craving from a HS pitcher in the top 10. Still plenty of time for him to creep in there. Forgot to mention Lewis but I love the potential there! But like all other OFs, I'd like use to draft something outside of OF. At 5 BPA should be close enough to have position factor in. I would just like to see us go with high upside at a different position. We have so many exciting ones that it would be nice to get more arms or infielders. Lowe is a stud who could be a plus defender at 3B. He could play 1b if blocked by Gatewood or Lara and is good enough athlete to go out to RF. His arm is about as good as it comes at the hot corner...be a waste to move him off to 1B though. Groome/ Pint / Lowe / Perez are my top 4
  11. Scooter being so committed to forcing his way into every day role is exciting. Sick or not, MadBum is close to as good as it gets for LP's in baseball....Scooter looked outstanding at the plate. We got it out of the way, Brewers now know that Chris Carter should never be sent to get extra base.....it is out of the way now
  12. At 5, if Pint or Groome are not there, as of today, you pass on pitching. Puk continues to be Puk with zero consistency and is all over the place. Hansen has been in a free fall all season. Connor Jones is a talented pitcher but is a middle of rotation talent. Sheffield has upside but not sold him as a #5 impact pitcher. Dakota Hudson scares me since he literally has done nothing until Cap Code & now this spring. Matt Krook is rebounding from injury and has shined enough Cal Quantrill is still out and a risk No other high school pitchers have really broke into top 10-15 range to discuss Overall I think pitching is deep and there should be a nice arm there for us at #46 To me if Pint or Groome are gone, Lowe & Perez should be top targets. Lowe will be a star. I'm completely sold on him. http://www.the3rdmanin.com/intriguing-two-way-player-josh-lowe/ (nice article) Moreover, his brother (a junior 1B at Mississippi State 6'4 245) Nathaniel should be considered as well between rounds 4-8. Drafted in 10th last year as one of the elite JC bats in the country. Great approach, so far 17bb to 12k. Perez keeps growing! One report said that there are rumors he is nearing 6'5 now! I hope not but he has the upside you are looking for. Overall elite defense, and a bat that people are starting to project to become pretty special. Will be 17 until fall as well making him one of youngest players in draft. With his helium I says he is gone by #5. Nick Senzel can flat out hit but his line drive approach with most likely never lead to much power numbers. Could be a Jeff Cirrillo type who will hit .330 but only 10-15 HRs in a season. I won't be excited with the pick but will be fine with it for sure. Cory Ray I have never been sold on. Even in college he can't get time in CF and will be a LF in MLB. Not much of an arm, Power will be nothing more than average there. Nolan Jones I haven't read enough on but I know he is gaining traction. Buddy Reed is Dexter Fowler, don't need that at 5 Mickey Moniak speed, will walk, oh and he will out hit anyone in this draft class. If not for us having 200 OFs loaded in our lower levels, I'd be all over Mickey. Blake Rutherford I think moves to left or right. Arm is not outstanding. His bat will carry him though and could be a .300 hitter with 25 bombs a year. Once again, I'd be more sold if our whole system wasnt OF's already.
  13. Sadly Peralta will have to show something in order to get traded....signs point to that not happening. Sitting 95-98mph is nice but he is just not effective at all right now. He is not even getting many groundballs. As for team not having an MVP in an earlier post, just remember there are 161 more games left this season so it is not doomsday after yesterday. Plus if season ended right now, Scooter goes home with team MVP. Cappy has been dominant in his new role. He is looking really good as of right now. I could see some high leverage situations coming in his near future, def with Smith out. I still do not believe the Brewers will lose 100 games. There is still enough talent on this team. Bullpen will kill us with how banged up we are.
  14. I'm sure Broxton can bat vs righties.... I get guys on, Broxton Ks a lot & Flores is a contact guy but Keon laced one that would be gone most days that at bat before, give him a shot and stop over managing. CC trying to outsmart himself
  15. Sedar, what are you doing? It's not Broxton on 2B! Scooter is not a fast guy! Dumb out. By the way Broxton killed that ball, surprised it died that much
  16. Scooter HR & Bb vs MadBum.... Who is a lefty, crown him everyday 2B! Last year highest exit velocity 103.8mph .... His HR 108.7mph. Looks like someone has added some power in his swing
  17. Prior to even our top 5 pick & draft, we already have our greatest & most loaded Helena team.... Walters, Fortuno, Lindell, Supak, Massaki (if recovered) all seem to start there Demi O, Trent Clark, Joantgel Segovia, Malik Colleymore, Franley Mallen, Gilbert Lara, Nichols Pierre....
  18. I'm really wondering about the rotation because it seems like Woodruff was being stretched out to start as well. Either someone surprising is going to the pen or someone is hurt. Forgot he is another prospect who earned a call up but was denied for AAAA players can fill out AAA rotation.... No clue what the plan would be for rotation. Woodruff has arm you like for a starter. He's a Michael Blazek type guy who could thrive with his power arm in bullpen
  19. With Santana's ability to walk at such a high rate, his OBP should at worse linger linger in the .350-.380 range somewhere. He will sit .100 over BA. With his natural ability to drive ball to all fields, I think he will at least sit around .800. Outside of winter ball this year, he has always produced with the hit tool, power tool, and walk ability. Think he is ready to translate it to big league success. I don't know DS seems pretty happy with Pressley, Guez, EY Jr, Peterson all sitting ahead of him.... I'm very bitter about placements this season... Hopefully Reed gets a look before Phillips somewhere in OF. I'm in no rush for Arcia or Phillips, save them & their service time for future unless they are scortch earth. Leave them down. Arcia may be good for jersey sales & ticket sales but make sure he is 100% ready
  20. I'm not a gambling man but I'd love some betting action on the over/under .725 OPS for Santana. Put my savings account on the over. With Phillips starting in AA & what really appears to be a no rush, baby approach to placement, I think September Call Up is as early as we will see him unfortunately.
  21. Record 74-88 Team MVP Ryan Braun Home Runs Chris Carter (41) Wins Jimmy Nelson (17) Breakout Position Player Santana .295/.405/.515 -.920 OPS 28HRs 77 RBIs (lead off hurts RBIs) 24 SB Pitcher Jimmy Nelson 17-11 3.15 ERA - 9.5 k/9 3.0 bb/9 Bold Predictions Braun & Lucroy stay put all season Arcia waits until August for call-up Scooter has big season, everyday including lefties Peralta rebounds, Jungmann struggles
  22. Most surprised by Hanhold since he was terrible last season. Cuas I figured would, college guy blocked for playing time at Wisconsin. Rotation Ponce Derby Mederois Williams Ventura/Hanhold
  23. With Broxton, it had more to do with them simply having nowhere for him. They are not going to trade McCutchen, Poloncio Or Marte to make room for him. 4th OFs are expandable. It speaks zero volume to me. Moreover, do you think the Pirates planned on Rogers busting and not being in there MLB plans? He simply didn't do enough. He is an awful defender everywhere on the field. Really he is a great bench bat/pinch hitter who can spot start here and there when needed. Really he is Lenny Harris..... Carter's upside is far higher than Rogers and it is not like Rogers was some young buck, he is like 1-2 years younger than Carter is only. Carter very easily could launch 35-40 HRs and drive in 80-100. He will OBP at least .100 over his batting average as well. He will K more and won't hit more than .240-.250, but he walks at a good rate and hits for major power.
  24. What an absolutely depressing team. You had the great Biloxi team last year, almost entire team gets repeated outside of Arcia, Perez, Reed (already in AAA last year) Lopez, Magnifico, and Hall.... What was a very fun and exciting wave of prospects was split up and not advanced. This is the same BS that caused Nashville to screw us over. Keep this crap up, Colorado Springs (if not relocated) may be the only team that will take us. Having a loaded system doesn't mean anything if you don't advance your prospects. Arcia, Cecchini, Reed, Lopez, Davies.... Magnifico are really the only reason to even look at a box score this season. How many AAAA players do you need to fill a roster? Not a fan at all with DS & Flanigan's placements. I am sure Wisconsin's placements will be as unaggressive as humanly possible. Hopefully Flanigan can move up from feeding prospects baby food to at least puffs in near future.....
  25. Judging by how non-aggressive & safe they are being with placements, unless Arcia is absolutely crushing AAA (hitting .330+, .900 OPS) I don't we see him any time soon. He literally has to force their hand. At this point, I'm shocked Reed, Arcia, Lopez, & Magnifico where even able to get out of Biloxi.... Only ones Flanigan allowed to.
