  1. Surprise surprise... This applies not just to baseball but all businesses trying to reopen...you can make employees follow the rules when they are on the clock, but all bets are off when they are on their own time. And of course the business is the one that ends up suffering as a result. Withholding judgement until I see more. The "players partied" storyline is convenient for MLB. That doesn't mean it isn't true, of course. It just means I need more than "MLB inside source" to take it is as truth. There IS incentive to make that the story from the league's perspective.
  2. Haven't scored first yet. -7 run differential. Played pretty sloppy. Can still have a .500 road trip with a win tonight. I will take that.
  3. The Brewers seem particularly lax in keeping up with these measures. Though the Cubs weren't great either. The Pirates looked to me, at least last night, to have most of the coaching staff masked at least. This is all just a big mess. And pretty emblematic of the entire pandemic from my perspective. There is an urge to get that feeling of normalcy, and who can blame anyone for that? But the virus is quick to capitalize. Hope for the best, I suppose. We'll see how MLB's protocols work and what they do over the next few days to a week. I have a feeling this will again be a sort of test balloon for other areas of society in one way or another.
  4. Thought Narvaez had a hit off the bat. Hope Hader is ready. Would like to see these new extra inning rules
  5. Also, staring this Friday the Brewers have 30 of their next 48 games at Miller Park. I do think they’ll perform much better offensively when they aren’t traveling under these current circumstances. This is also really true. Opening on the road must be extra difficult. Good point.
  6. Draft picks are good. I am also genuinely curious about the trade deadline and whether anything will happen and what the market will look like...
  7. Some bad batted ball luck tonight too. I still think they bounce back and win the series. And 3-3 is fine. Even 2-4, really. Just have to get the sea legs and stay in the hunt. Sure, every game matters, but the format is forgiving.
  8. I mean, you can't fall behind to Dyson there. And, yeah. Not a great start, but it's still a long 60 games (assuming they play 60).
  9. Sure would be nice to score first...but, hey. Into the Pirate pen already. Hope the offense wakes up.
  10. Yes. Also in St. Louis, Chicago and Cincinnati. I swear I've spent more time waiting for baseball to be played in Pittsburgh than actually watching baseball being played in Pittsburgh...
  11. Yeah. Sigh. It's random and impossible to contain, and it feels like we're all just hoping to get lucky. I really, really hope MLB has set case threshholds and contingency planned beyond just the 60-player pool. I hope we get baseball. But if you're looking at 6 potential cases already? In one weekend. That does not bode well....and if MLB can't contain this with all its testing and contact resources, I shudder to think how it's going to look for schools, etc.
  12. Reds lose 2 of 3 at home to the Tigers. Probably the worst first-weekend result as far as the Central is concerned.
  13. Just gotta keep it interesting. Also sort of feel like the biggest thing this year is to avoid getting swept in these divisional series. Obviously, you want to win your share, but going 0-3 is a killer.
  14. Frustrating. Of course, the wind is blowing out. And it is the Cubs bullpen.... So, you know. Stranger things. Assuming the Crew can get to the bullpen, of course
  15. Real nice inning from Freddy. Good command, looked composed. That's one of the best first innings I think I've seen from him. Obviously only one inning, but I hope he keeps it up. That new slider looked pretty darn good...
  16. He always looks awkward out there, and I've seen some horrendous misplays, but don't the metrics have him better than folks think? bWAR has him as basically Yelich in terms of dWAR (both around -1 win). Defensive stats are strange...
  17. Yeah, I don't mind Sogard getting ABs at the top of the order against RHP. He does usually seem to put together good ABs, and he certainly did yesterday.
