  1. I thought we'd see Holt with Sogard at SS. But mostly fine with this. Hope they can be patient with Chatwood and Freddy gets through that jinxed 1st inning and continues a la Mother's Day!
  2. I totally agree with this. In theory, sure. You could get 5,000 people really socially distanced in MP, but then you've got to have support staff and cleaning and all the adjacent stuff that just adds risk (and wouldn't you have to clean the entire stadium because who knows where exactly those people went?). Maybe, just maybe you could have small crowds for the World Series, given that it would be the very end, but that seems like a real long shot, as it should be. If we make it through October with minimal disruptions, that will be an awesome outcome. Having a small crowd present is like a top 1% outcome for this season as I see it. If any league tries fans, I think it will be the NFL, and I think that will be way too aggressive....but the NFL does what it wants and is basically king, not just of sports either. So. We'll see.
  3. Sogard put together some very good ABs today. The whole lineup did, really, and getting to Darvish helps. Hope they can hang another big one on Chatwood tomorrow and Good Freddy shows up. I sort of thought this series would be a sweep, so having a chance to win it is a good start.
  4. It is weird... but is also allows for interaction you don't normally get. Take the popup yesterday than Sogard caught where Arcia ran into him. I was watching with family with BA and Rock's broadcast and you could hear very clearly the 'conversation' between Sogard/Cain/Arcia who were all yelling "I got it". I had a sister who laughed at it but it led to a good conversation about who is the 'quarterback' in both the infield and outfield in terms of who gives way to who. Never would have had that conversation if the fans were there. So I agree, this year is weird. Let us experience it as it is. If I don't like it I will mute the TV and turn on music... Yeah, that play was a great example. Has anyone been listening to the radio broadcasts? How do they sound? Wonder if that might be even more interesting, even if it is always impossible for me to get the audio and video properly synced up.
  5. Yeah, count me in as just wanting these games televised in the way the players are experiencing them. It's weird, but the fake ambience just makes it worse. And looks like the offense is going to have to keep putting up runs...
  6. I missed this...what'd I miss? I saw Contreras barking at the Brewers dugout briefly...something with that?
  7. I thought Hiura went in real time. Of course, to me, check swings on high, inside pitches always look like swings. Just the angle involved.
  8. 1 is fine given the way the stuff looked. Hope Burnes settles. Gotta hit to win either way.
  9. Prior to the series, I thought Sunday was the most favorable pitching matchup. Yesterday toss-up. Today edge Cubs. I am happy enough with one win in this series, especially given expanded playoffs and just general weirdness, but pressure starts to pile up quick in a 60-game run. I guess what I'm saying is: must win!
  10. Probably good that tomorrow is a 12:05 start. Get right back out there and forget about it.
  11. This season is just going to be a weird test of trying to enjoy baseball while balancing the fact that every game feels very meaningful with the fact that the format is more forgiving than ever. I have no idea how to feel. Ha. All of ot at once.
  12. Kinda. There's been no offense and we are barely over 2/3rds through the game and it's still 2 hours in. Maybe it just feels fast
  13. I'll say this: Road games? Way easier to watch without fans in attendance. Game 163 excepted.
  14. Little better inning there. Hold 'em and hope. This roster is...weird offensively? It feels like Yeli+ Hiura and a lot of league average-ish guys? Which should be good in theory, but it just looks odd to me as I watch it for the first time competitively.
  15. Get those frustrating innings out of the way early, I guess. Hendricks is on. Nice to have baseball back either way.
  16. I'll say this about Arcia: I always get the impression there's absolutely nothing the guy'd rather be doing than playing baseball. And that was a real nice swing.
  17. It's not really baseball until a BF.netter is complaining about leaving runners at third with less than two outs, so, thanks, Lorenzo, I guess? Nice to have a game on.
  18. This is the hard part. These negotiations were just, ugh. The owners don't even seem to like baseball, and I feel that way about Manfred too. But I will keep watching because I like the game and still find it about the most amazing sport in the world. So, yeah. They've got me. And I'll watch. And line their pockets. And what are you gonna do?
  19. I understand this perspective if all sorts of weird rules get implemented, but if it just ends up being an 80-game season? I mean, at a certain point, it's all arbitrary, isn't it? Why 162 games? Why not 139? Or 115? Or 100 even? I guess I just sort of believe baseball is always random to some extent, and we're always emotionally invested in a kind of coin toss, especially when the postseason comes around, and, for me, that makes a shortened season not all that much different (different, yes, but not fundamentally so) from anything else. I'm bummed about the loss of two weeks of games to keep me company, of course, but that's a "small potatoes" thing given where all this is. For me, it's just, I love having baseball to follow every day, and if the Brewers play 80 games and lose 45, I'll still feel good on the 35 days with W's. If they win the whole thing, I'll feel like the wait was worth it, and my emotional response will be as high as it would be in any other season.
