  1. I think Parks and Rec is one of the most consistent shows on TV. Funny and well-written enough to deliver some great (and even insightful moments). I'll second Party Down as a fun show as well. Another one that was only two seasons, but there were some great moments. Extremely well-acted. I guess this is an Adam Scott approved post.
  2. Anyone else a little surprised the Sox didn't challenge the play at third on Davis? He beat the throw pretty clearly, but it looked to me like he may have slipped off the bag before the tag was completed. At that point, I figured a challenge was inevitable. Nice win today! Good to see a big inning. Big day from Gomez, and you have to love Davis ripping in a big spot.
  3. I think Braun was out. Looked like Bogaerts double-clutched a little. Too bad the ump went with out. Might not have been enough to overturn a safe call. Here's hoping the bullpen can throw up a couple zeros.
  4. Estrada goes 5 2/3. 102 pitches. Pitched really well when it didn't look like he had his best stuff early. Have to like the performances the Crew is getting from its starters. Strange to feel most of the frustration on the offensive end. Save for a bad throw today and two bad pitches from Lohse (in an otherwise great performance), I can't think of anything else to gripe about on the other side of things. Still think they pull this one out today. Big hit from Segura next inning
  5. Other than the throw home in the 2nd, Schafer has not been good today. Tough break for Davis. That ball was hit hard. Has the Crew turned a DP yet? Roll one over, Ortiz! Edit: I'll take the CS. Great throw from Luc.
  6. I'm having the same issue. I've been overlaying via the Gameday page on my computer, but Ueck is consistently 4-5 seconds ahead, which is kind of an annoyance. Any suggestions on what else to try? I'm limited to my Mac (no iPad or other device), so any thoughts would be helpful. Otherwise I'll run it through MLB's tech forum and see what turns up.
  7. Is there any possibility that Braun can "get used to it"? I ask in all seriousness. It sounds like part of the issue is that he can't feel his thumb on the bat. I imagine there's the potential for something like that to lead to overcompensating with other parts of the hand, which might be the main cause of the discomfort? I guess what I'm wondering, for those that know more than I do about anatomy, is whether or not this is an injury that's going to get progressively worse. Or is it something that will be a constant annoyance?
  8. Pretty poor situational hitting so far this year. Estrada is hanging tough, but it feels on the verge. The offense will need to pick it up.
  9. Hurray, optimism! It's tough to complain about a 1-2 start when the offense only puts up 4 runs. Garza was awesome today. That was nice to see. I've got a feeling the offense will get going at Fenway. Big series from Gomez, Segura, and Braun! Pitching depth could be really nice this year.
  10. Maybe they pull a rabbit out of the hat against Kimbrel. Not exactly an inspiring offensive performance this week. Mostly, it's nice to have baseball back. If they can't win the series today, get back on the horse at Fenway.
  11. Here in the Triangle, the local folks think Marquette is a good fit for Wojo. Basically, the idea is he needs to prove he can win somewhere, and a good coach can and will win at a program like Marquette. Many are questioning whether or not this is his "vitae" move, undergone so that he can show some head coaching success for when Coach K retires in 5-10 years. So that gels with some of what's been brought up here. Generally, I think people are really interested to see if he can actually succeed. There's a little more skepticism about Wojo than about Johnny Dawkins at Stanford and Chris Collins at Northwestern.
  12. I agree with most here. I think the question really is, what are fans supposed to do? A lot of people were extremely frustrated with Braun, and I think it's easy for the national media to forget that the suspension was, in many ways, the end of a LONG, difficult period of Brewer fandom. That was nearly a two year story, and a big part of taking the suspension was to allow the team some room to recover and get Braun the distraction away from the ballpark for a while. Once that happened, I think the road to starting new began. Is Braun really going to hear some cheers and think, "Gee, that wasn't so bad, and they still love me so what can't I get away with?" I just don't see that as a rational response given what he cost himself, even if it was only some significant $$$. So, yeah. It's baseball season. The Brewers are back, and they need a lot to go right to have a shot at the playoffs. Braun is a huge part of that, so what's the point of booing, really? How much more public shaming is going to be enough? If he messes up again, maybe we need to approach it differently, but I don't see any reason not to cheer for the guy.
  13. K-Rod closing is certainly some proactive managing from RR. If he really felt K-Rod looked better than Henderson lately, I guess you have to respect the call. I'd rather this than trotting Henderson out there over and over because he's the "closer." I guess I'm just hoping RR isn't so enamored with K-Rod that he loses the flexibility to play matchups (not that he ever had THAT to begin with). I think what I'm saying is that part of this move seems out of character and surprising (certainly not "by the book) but the other part displays that same reliance on veteran moxie. Not sure what to make of it yet. Man, it's awesome to talk about baseball. I'm still impressed by Scooter's play in the ninth. Infield defense was very good today.
  14. It's too early to start the Weeks frustration, right? Right? Let's go bullpen!
  15. Great play from Ramirez. Nice inning from Kintzler. Matt Lepay expressed confidence in MLB during the interminable Badger review on Saturday (which shows how long it must have felt given the game's magnitude), and, I gotta say, that was pretty quick and easy. Of course, not all challenges will be as clear. Badger mutual insurance runs, anyone?
  16. What a great day. Yo at Miller Park, and the voice of one of the all-time greats. This team is due for a good start to the year, right? Baseball is back!
  17. They always talk about Jerry's World being a special place for the Packers. Rodgers will likely be in town, so hopefully that's good karma. By Saturday night (let's just start there), I hope it gets renamed Frankie's World. And maybe the Brewers will have 4 wins by tip-off
  18. I'll give it a shot. Record: 87-75 All Star: Lucroy, Gomez, Braun. Biggest Surprise: Gallardo bounces back to have a 2011 kind of year. Biggest Disappointment: Henderson struggles at the back end. Bullpen has trouble closing out games. Playoffs: Yes. Wild Card. Place in Division: 2nd Playoffs NL: Dodgers, Cardinals, Nationals, Brewers, Braves Playoffs AL: A's, Indians, Red Sox, Tigers, Rangers World Series: A's over Cardinals
  19. I thought Trae was great last night. He forced a shot or two, but he's the guy you want handling the ball late in the clock. He had a couple of big, late shot clock baskets last night. What's so great about the win is that EVERYONE contributed. Gasser had one of the worst offensive games I've ever seen, but contained Johnson about as well as anyone could. Even Dekker, who is far from a lights out defender (but getting better every game) played really strong D on Aaron Gordon for much of the night. Brust hit a big shot. Koenig and Hayes both had some key buckets. And Frank was as good as I've ever seen him. Just a great Badger effort. Man was Arizona good defensively. There were 5 or 6 quick passing sequences that almost always result in open looks for a Badger three that ended up getting them nothing last night. Such good rotation from UA. I'd expect nothing less from a team modeled on Dick Bennett. Though I don't know if Arizona has an individual defender as lights out as Mike Kelley, my personal favorite from the 2000 team. I'm not sure how to feel about who UW plays next. Part of me thinks Michigan, but I also feel a little worried about those repeat matchups. Who will TBS/TNT get to present the Badger "homer" cast on Saturday? Gotta think Kelley is a front-runner right? Maybe BA?
  20. Fondy, I can't root against Tony Bennett. Especially not when Izzo's on the other sideline. I hear you on wanting to, but I just can't. Quite. Do it. That said, hoping the games are great tonight. Saturday is set to be a fun night of basketball. I'll be pulling for Dayton and then hoping just one (and the unexpected) of the Miller brothers makes it to Arlington. 3 seems right to me on the spread. Arizona has been awesome all year. UW's best chance might be foul trouble. UA only runs about 6 deep, so strategically pushing tempo and driving to the rim might be an effective strategy. I remember in 2000 when being in a game to get to the Final Four was a big surprise. I remember LePay not even believing it after UW beat Purdue. It's really nice to feel like this team belongs and is in fact overdue for a Final Four, especially after all the good teams Bo has had. This one has always felt like the best. So, let's go! I'm hoping for a Wisconsin reunion kind of Final Four.
  21. It's going to be very strange to watch UW play against Arizona in the tournament and see the Wildcats using the pack line defense. I think the Badgers have enough weapons to cause problems, but Gordon makes me nervous. The good news is I have a hard time seeing this as a blowout, and that kid can't shoot free throws. The Badgers are tough to prepare for in a short window just because of all their offensive weapons. Maybe Dick Bennett makes a call to Bo to give him an edge
  22. These Regional sites are tough in terms of seeding and home court. Connecticut gets to play at MSG, which will be at least a small advantage for them, I would think, and they're a 7. Louisville in Indy is a HUGE advantage with so many Cardinal fans in Southern Indiana, and they are a 4. I think it's just so tough to match sites and programs and seed lines, especially given that the regionals are played at 4 sites, and when the committee tries to protect all teams on the 1-4 lines, there is going to be some clustering. Throw in randomness, and it's not surprising that some teams will have an advantage they may not have earned. Is it fair? Nope. Is it avoidable? I don't really think so. On a semi-related note, isn't the Anaheim regional in an actual basketball arena (as opposed to Lucas Oil or the Jerry Dome, which must feel like the moon compared to, you know, something designed for hoops)? I prefer that for Wisconsin for some reason. Probably because of all the unsubstantiated rumors about how much more difficult it is to shoot in those cavernous spaces. Small detail, but maybe worth mentioning. Go Badgers! Get us through the last week before baseball!
  23. Huge three from Brust. Big free throws from Trae. Sweet 16 is nice. Hoping for Gonzaga over Arizona, though I won't hold my breath. SDSU-Arizona would be a slugfest. Agree that either Creighton or Baylor is a good matchup, though McDermott is just truly terrifying. We'll see what happens. Mostly, I love getting to relax for a few days and know there'll be a game.
