  1. I think the Pirates are pretty much dead. They'll get hot at some point and make a run for a respectable final record, but it won't be enough to make the playoffs. They've dug themselves into a pretty big whole early. The Reds are hanging by a thread too. It's a good thing the Brewers have jumped out to such a fast start. It will lessen the blow of the inevitable losing streak that's on the horizon. Every team gets ice cold at some point. Hopefully the Brewers rack up enough wins to provide enough cushion for when the cold streak comes. The Cards are some point are going to get hot. This upcoming series with the Cards is super important. Lose and the Brewers may end up chasing St. Louis at some point. Win and I think they'll have enough of a lead to stay in front throughout the summer. It's all about pace.
  2. Now that you mention it, they HAVE sucked since I joined! Don't ever leave this website!!
  3. That's all very true, but that last pitch wasn't close. If Braun thought it was a fastball low and away then he's an idiot. There's no need to hack at that anyways. The heat is on the pitcher, not Braun. He should know that patience in that situation is more important than swinging like a maniac. If there are two strikes and a hitter thinks it's going to be close, he generally swings and tries to foul it off. Sure, there are plenty of times a guy looks at a close pitch and is right, but it's not unreasonable to protect the plate and not chance a called third strike. So Braun whiffed on a pitch in the dirt. Big deal. The pitcher threw a nasty pitch that he located perfectly. I agree, most hitters should swing at close pitches on a full count. Just don't swing at stuff that is low and away because most of the time it's junk. Braun should have swung at the pitch that ended the game. That was way too close to take. A lot of these ballplayers aren't good at pitch recognition.
  4. I've said this many times in the past, but sometimes the pitcher just wins the battle. Not every out or even every strikeout is an abject failure or some pathetic effort by the batter. The pitcher made some good pitches. The last one was great. Looked like it was going to be close enough for Braun to protect and then dove out of the zone. The pitcher did his job. Whenever our pitchers strike a guy out, we're all like, "Yeah! Great job! Nasty stuff!" When their guy does it, we're like, "Pathetic." That's all very true, but that last pitch wasn't close. If Braun thought it was a fastball low and away then he's an idiot. There's no need to hack at that anyways. The heat is on the pitcher, not Braun. He should know that patience in that situation is more important than swinging like a maniac.
  5. i still don't understand how braun hacks away at low and away breaking balls.
  6. hmm what to do here. do you steal 2nd or do you give braun the benefit of the doubt? if you steal and scooter gets caught and braun gets a hit, then you've just got 1 dude on base.
  7. Ugh 2nd and 3rd and they blow it. Can't waste opportunities like that.
  8. RRR makes too many boneheaded decisions. He's over aggressive on the bases when he shouldn't. He overuses certain players in the pen. I like his aggressive style, I just think he overdoes it a bit. There's no reason to have everyone and their mother try to steal a base when Braun or Gomez are batting. I'd prefer if he saved the aggression for when the weaker hitters are at the plate. Right now it makes sense to steal 2nd whenever Segura is batting. Unfortunately Segura right now is more likely to ground into a double play than hit one into the gap. That's a good movement to be aggressive and try to take away the double play. I like bunting to bring in runs, I just don't like it when he has bad bunters do it. We all know Maldonado can't bunt, yet RRR has had him do it quite a few times. I'm also worried that K-Rod and Thornburg are going to be gassed by September. Those 2 have already pitched a boatload of innings. It would be nice if he would spread around the bullpen duties equally. The A's are doing an excellent job of spreading the workload in the pen. RRR should copy them. I like his aggressive approach to the game in theory, but I don't agree with most of his decisions. He's not the worst manager in baseball, but he's near the bottom in my opinion. Some guys have great in-game awareness and others don't. I think RRR is limited when it comes to making in-game adjustments. I will praise him for making sure that the young guys got to play last year. I think getting some action last year is helping Scooter a lot this year. I think his demeanor is good for the clubhouse as well. It seems like he has control over the players.
  9. Wow what a joke. Cole started the whole thing and gets away with it. Cole should have been suspended for 3 games.
  10. I wouldn't trade him. He's a valuable and inexpensive member of the rotation. He's proven he can be a very good pitcher. I'd only trade him if someone was willing to overpay. He's more valuable to the Brewers remaining in the rotation than being traded for a prospect.
  11. braun should do the hulk hogan thing when the pirates fans boo him. might as well go all out on the bad guy thing when on the road.
  12. several teams copied the brewers. the nats presidents race is a bad copy.
