  1. I love this Brewers team. If the pitching can stay solid the rest of the year, I expect at least a wild card spot for the Brew Crew. The scary thing is that Braun and Segura haven't even warmed up. Wait until the lineup is 100%.
  2. since when did Brewers fans turn into a pessimistic bunch? The first week of April isn't over and some sound like they're ready to concede the season. The Brewers have done far better than I have expected. I didn't expect the pitching to be this good. I expected improvement, but I didn't expect THIS kind of improvement. The offense will eventually come around, it always does. There's a lot to be excited about. Combine that with an interesting schedule (AL East) and it looks like it's going to be a fun season.
  3. what a fun game. like someone else said earlier in the thread, the pitching has been very impressive so far. If the offense can go back to normal, this team will be dangerous.
  4. It's disappointing that the Brewers dropped the series to a weak Braves team. Brew Crew should have easily won this series. The good news is that the pitching looked very good. I thought Garza was going to stink up the joint after a bad ST. He looked really good today.
  5. Record: 88-74 All-Stars: Lucroy, Garza, (Braun will play like an all-star but won't get invited to the game) Biggest Surprise: Will Smith Biggest Disappointment: Gomez Playoffs: No Place in Division: 3rd World Series: Dodgers over Athletics
  6. Baseball's back! Yes! I know it's just an exhibition game, but it's always nice to see the Brewers blow out another team.
  7. good move. it's a 1 year deal. money isn't an issue. the bullpen is stronger now. i'd give the group a B grade.
  8. get it done melvin. this would be an epic fail if the negotiations fall apart.
  9. Balfour may come on the cheap because of the failed physical with the O's. I would sign Balfour and K-Rod to 1 year deals. The Brewers would then have two good relievers with a vast amount of closer experience. If you're making a run for this year, then you might as well go all the way. The rotation is good now with Garza. They just have to shore up the bullpen. I'm more interested in having a dominant bullpen than fixing 1B. The Brewers lineup is more than good enough to hide the 1st base problem.
  10. Hell yeah! Great signing by the Brewers! A+ The rotation looks good now. Without Garza I would have given it a B-. Now I put it at B+. Hopefully the bullpen will be solid this year.. This team should contend for a wild card spot. The offense will be good again. 1. Garza 2. Lohse 3. Gallardo 4. Estrada 5. Peralta 6. Thornburg or Narveson
  11. Everyone will forget as soon as he starts putting up good numbers. I'm a Brewers fan first. Braun's just someone that happens to play for my favorite team. I don't care if he used PED's. Everyone else in baseball is cheating in some form or another. The whole game is dirty. I'm not some naive fool that still believes MLB is clean. I've accepted that unfortunately this game is tainted. I don't get surprised anymore when superstar players get caught cheating. Braun's a product of his environment. You don't get paid big money in sports by playing clean. He's got no choice but to cheat just like the others if he wants to make big money. I blame this 100% on that scumbag coward of a commissioner Bud Selig. That lying prick is the reason why steroids have ruined baseball. Now the coward has the nerve to act all ''high and mighty'' when it comes to steroids. The hypocrite supported the use of steroids in the 90s. Don't get mad at the players for doing something that you as the COMMISSIONER of baseball approved.
  12. If it's true then wow. Maybe we gave too much credit to Zduriencik.
  13. You'll learn that any time a Brewer player has a breakout season, some on this board will suggest trading that player. I call it the "Bill Hall" syndrome. Of course not every player is Bill Hall. It's really because that's what we have to do in this market to stay competitive. Especially when our early-round draft record lately has been less than par. In this market we have the luxury to sign one large contract and a few supporting big-money deals and that's about it. I don't blame fans for wanting to parlay Gomez into a frontline starter or something like that. Because realistically, we're virtually outpriced at trying to get top pitching in the free-agent market. I agree with that and I would add that the current front office has struggled to draft good pitchers. Normally I wouldn't want to trade a good young hitter, but the lack of pitching on this team is scary. I don't have any confidence in the current front office fixing the situation.
  14. That's a good point. If Braun goes back to being Braun, would you still keep him or still try to fix the rotation? I'd have to think long and hard about that one. The Brewers don't have anyone in the organization that has the potential to be Verlander, Kershaw, or Price. Walker and Hultzen would fix the Brewers problems. Imagine a rotation of Walker, Hultzen, Peralta for the future? Maybe Nelson, Thornburg, or Hellweg can be in the rotation. I like Gomez, but I'm a little scared that last year was a fluke.
  15. The Mariners look like they are going all in for 2014. I've read that they are looking for outfielders and good bats. If the Jack Z offered Taijuan Walker and other pitching prospects for Braun would you do it? What would you trade Gomez for? Braun's marketing value has gone down. He's no longer the untouchable face of the franchise marketing superstar that he used to be. The Brewers badly need pitching prospects. Trading Braun or Gomez would be a great way to acquire young pitching. The Mariners have a surplus of pitching prospects.
  16. I think Marlins park has messed up his numbers. Like someone else said, it takes a lot to hit the ball out of the park in Miami. Miller Park is hitter friendly. Morrison may live up to the hype if given a chance in a more friendly environment.
  17. Whoa that's pretty cool. Who would've thought that one small move in 90s could have an impact on the team 17 years later? Segura was a kid when the Loretta trade happened.
  18. I did. I don't have anything against Smith. I'm happy that they added a young player to the bullpen. I just wish they had held out for a better deal. I think Aoki is a little more valuable than the Brewers fan base thinks. It is what it is.
  19. But he's only a slightly above average offensive player. Also gets caught stealing a lot. Any player with a .350 OBP is a good leadoff hitter. Slightly above average defensive skills Accurate sure. Cannon? Not even close. Geez, the way you described him you make him sound like a 5 tool player. No wonder why you're disappointed. I don't think he's a 5 tool player. I think he's a really good player that people do not give enough respect to. I've seen Aoki make excellent throws from deep in right field. The guy has a cannon. I think he's good at anticipating the trajectory of the ball in the air and he takes good routes to the ball. He's no Carlos Gomez, but he's very good defensively. It's not that easy to find a good leadoff hitter. I hope the Brewers know what they're doing. I feel like they just got rid of a very valuable piece. I understand trading a good player to help out the farm system. If they intent on trading him, then why not acquire a SP prospect?
  20. booo! that's the best they can get for aoki? why trade aoki and not davis? brewers just gave away a player that hits for average, steals bases, excellent lead off hitter, excellent defensive skills, and has a cannon for an arm. very disappointing trade. i hope smith ends up being a good player, but i can't help but feel like melvin dropped the ball here.
  21. it's nice having catchers that can give that have the ability to help out their pitchers. framing pitches is an underrated ability. lucroy's offense plus his framing skills make him an excellent player to have. my only gripe is with his arm strength. i'm very happy the brewers have him.
  22. i wonder if boston fans hate him now lol. i knew the yankees weren't going to stay quiet for much longer. they had to go out and do something yankeeish. i agree with brewmann04. this is why i don't bother getting excited about free agency. the brewers will never have a shot at signing someone important.
  23. I'm starting to favor blowing it up. If the Brewers aren't going to compete, then they might as well be building towards the future. It sucks but that's just how baseball is at the moment. Blow this sucker up and go get some prospects. The Brewers need to take a page out of the A's playbook and learn when to blow things up and start over. That's the way things are for small-market teams. You compete for 5 seasons and then you start over. The Marlins are smart. They know that they can't compete with the big dogs every year. They wait for the right moment and then they take their chance. The Marlins made the right choice in trading away all those FA acquisitions. Now they are good shape with all of those young prospects.
