  1. Yeah but I'm not convinced Dozier comes all that much cheaper. Dozier will likely cost a fraction of what it costs to trade for MM.
  2. Apparently this is a thing and Cubs fans are salty. There were maybe 1 or 2 I noticed that were well before the ball landing, but most were legit. My thoughts, who gives a crap. It's the HR derby. Maybe next year they let these guys know not to do that, but it would be stupid to be so stringent on rules in an event that is solely about having fun. Leave it to Cubs fans to cry over something so inconsequential. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/there-are-home-run-derby-truthers-accusing-bryce-harpers-dad-of-cheating/
  3. If this is true, Brewers are certainly out. Diaz is a better prospect than Burnes in my opinion...if Diaz is in a deal it's time to look elsewhere.
  4. Perfect response to that question
  5. Phillies rumors are nonsense. This guy appears more legit than the initial announcers of the deal...
  6. Medina as the centerpiece? 21 year old undersized RH pitcher posting a 5 ERA in one of the most extreme pitcher friendly parks in baseball. Did we even make an offer, I can't imagine us not beating that offer with ease.
  7. It's not just coming from that source though. It's in a lot of places with very specific names being mentioned. I'd bet this is it. Do you have a source on specific names? I'm not seeing anything like that
  8. Now he's going to the Phillies also. So MM will apparently be playing for 3 teams starting on Wednesday.
  9. It's hard to put too much stock in media reports, but us falling out of it and then climbing back in it according to reports...may indicate we upped our offer. I'm honestly very concerned that we increased our offer to include Burnes. All that said, I still think the Dodgers or Phillies beat us. They generally have more resources and can afford to throw in more prospects.
  10. I'm not sure if this has been posted, but see tweet below. I take this to be the Yankees version of HH19. https://twitter.com/EvilEmpireTalks/status/1018672288441491458 I saw something similar but can't find the tweet anymore, it's apparently circulating on a dodgers site that the Dodgers will be landing Machado in a 3 team trade after the allstar game. The Dodgers version of HH19. So, it sounds like both the Dodgers and Yankees will be winning the Machado sweepstakes.
  11. Right, if one of our top 5 propsects was having a killer season...we wouldn't want to trade him. See Peralta. The stats aren't always the whole story. Looking at Medeiros, he's always been extremely young for his league and his stuff is much better than results. I think he's wildly underrated by most, I think he's a better prospect than Brown, definitely in the Brewers top 10 possibly around 6 or 7. I will agree the Phillies are probably better positioned to land him based on prospects, but we probably have better mlb ready prospects/talent if that's what the O's want.
  12. Another thing to keep in mind, The O's may not want the specific guys we are offering. They may find Phillips and Ortiz less valuable than they truly are. They will likely have more interest in guys performing well, as woud I. Medeiros, Brown, Ray, etc. Hard to say what their FO wants, but what they like might not be the same as the guys that make the most sense for the Brewers to move.
  13. I've been getting the impression based on rumors that packages are increasing, probably past my personal comfort zone. That could be the intent of the media, so can't read too much from that. I hope Stearns doesn't include any of our top 3 in any deal. Try to work it around some of our older prospects destined for the 40 man, and if it doesn't work out...pivot to another player like Escobar for a fraction of the cost.
  14. Can you imagine the crap situation we'd be in right now had we sent off Brinson for Gray or Quintana? We'd probably be 5 or 6 games behind the Cubs right now. Hard to know for certain how differently all the dominoes would have fallen, but it likely doesn't end well for us.
  15. I'm not surprised by the fading talk. My guess is the Dodgers/Yankees/phillies are continuing to increase their offers and we've maxed out at what a reasonable cost might be...and that's ok. Keep in mind this can all change with one phone call...as Stearns likes to say.
  16. I think the Brewers turn that down as well. Dubon is arguably the most valuable player in that trade. I know he's got the knee issue but he was really turning a corner in AAA.
  17. I get the sense that a few GM's are making guys "available" at a wild overpay price...to the point that they may as well not be available. Archer, Fulmer, Realmuto, Degrom all seem to fall into that category...I'll add that Degrom is so incredibly valuable that maybe his price isn't an overpay but it's probably more than any team can reasonably pay, but you generally get the idea.
  18. It looks like we should be ok with pitchers available. Hader, Houser, Asher, Jeffress are certainly all available. Williams and Knebel are probably available. Jennings is probably not, Barnes is definitely not. I have to assume Houser is going to piggy-back Miley and then get sent down. I'm not sure why Anderson is slated to start Sunday and not Saturday. Who the heck is going to pitch for us in those 2 games Saturday? Suter and Wilkerson? Wilkerson and Woodruff? If we could take 2 wins of 5 without playing and get to the break...I'd do it. The roster is battered and the arms are generally tired...we need those 4 days.
  19. I would trade Stearns for Syndergaard AND Degrom. I like Stearns, but I also like to think Arnold has learned enough and could take over for that haul.
  20. I gotta think the Yankees can pretty much dictate the outcome if they want him badly enough. I disagree, the Dodgers have more elite players if it came down to an absurd bidding war. I don't understand the reports of the Yankees being involved. They'd be better off targeting Moustakas for 3b or 1b. Getting Machado makes it that much more likely that a couple high end right handed SP make mince meat of their RH heavy lineup...kinda like last year. Plus, where would Machado play? 3b? 1b? DH? A rotation? It doesn't fit for me.
  21. It sounds like you are having the same issues that I'm having. I keep hopping on Twitter hoping for something new, and become instantly disappointed when there is nothing there! Then, I try to remind myself that it is only July 12 and we still have two and a half weeks until the trade deadline. Man, this might be the longest 2+ weeks ever! I know! Where is Jim Bowden to Tweet some made-up garbage when you need him? LOL That Blue Crew Ball article saying the Brewers offered Burnes still shows up on my Yahoo news feed, and it bothers me every time I see it. I suppose that is my fault for having Yahoo as my launch page. For better or worse, I've checked that blog the last few days for HH19 tidbits. He has been providing HH19 stuff(or so he says), and it's all generic...nothing to see. I saw that article title also, that's about as irresponsible as it gets. Pure click bait, and the media wonders why nobody trusts anything they read anymore...
  22. I'm a bit surprised by the lack of anything today. No new rumors or speculation from the media, at least not that I've seen.
  23. What I posted wasn't a rumor. It was what someone from the Orioles message board deemed a fair trade. FYI
  24. I wouldn't say they have zero leverage. It isn't like there isn't competition for Machado's services. That's pretty much the definition of leverage. They aren't going to get near the haul they would have gotten trading him last year or even this past offseason, but they are still going to get a good package. And why wouldn't they try to drive up the price on him? That's just solid business. It's close to none. I'm not saying they're teams colluding, but it's fair to say no team is eager to participate in a bidding war after last year. I'm pretty sure teams are throwing them FAIR take it or leave it offers because in reality the prospects coming back are more valuable than the comp pick. They're gonna trade him and teams know this. Maybe a team blinks, but after the Yankees debacle last year it's unlikely. Just my opinion though. Teams are all getting very good at analyzing players. Not all models are equal I'm sure, but I'm sure the Dodgers and Brewers value MM similarly(along with other teams). I suspect the offers are fairly similar because teams are valuing players fairly similar. And when I say teams, I say most teams...I fully expect the Orioles are about a decade behind most other teams.
  25. It isn't about leverage. It's simply a bidding war. Even the lowest reported offers are much better than a comp pick, that isn't up for debate. Which team offers the best package, that's who gets MM. Unless it's the yankees, then Angelos throws ice-water on the trade and he goes to the 2nd best offer. It's really that simple. I'll add/clarify that it's the offer that the Orioles think is the best offer. Should be obvious but I'll make that clear. I think many of our MLB ready prospects will be more highly regarded by the Orioles than the a ball players the Dodgers have to offer, again that's opinion.
