  1. They might want them, but they're not getting them. Mejia, LOL. If we are talking fantasy trades, I'll take Machado and Britton and they can have Kratz. Meanwhile, I'll send over Brett Phillips straight up for Degrom.
  2. Bump. This is still the way I see it, the Brewers have the mix of "MLB-ready" types the Orioles want, including young pitching. I think the Brewers are the best match, for this reason, and when you add in our ability to take on the rest of Machado's contract without having to create space, that just makes the fit all the better. At this point, I actually expect the Brewers to get Machado - as I said in my original post, someone will have to change course and throw an elite kid at the O's to change where this is heading - maybe that happens, but right now, I doubt it. I really like your optimism, and I hope you're right. I still think the Dodgers find a way to make it work despite all their obstacles. It's also possible the Diamondbacks make an all-in move considering their team situation, but I'm not sure SS is their biggest need.
  3. I'll also add, the Dodgers are going to have significant trouble fitting Machado's remaining salary under the luxury tax cap. Don't underestimate how significant of a hurdle this is...as SS isn't the Dodgers only need. They need SP and RP along with SS help. It's possible the Dodgers need to offer much better prospects to also have some $ sent over.
  4. I went putzing through the orioles fan forums, I've also added a link below for those curious. I'll put it nicely and say they have some lofty expectation for their Machado return. http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/index.php?/topic/31981-machado-trade-expectations/&page=52 I personally started around page 42 and read through. The 2 craziest demands I saw were Arcia + Burnes + Ortiz and Hiura + Burnes + Peralta + Carmona. The latter of the two was by an admin. Occasionally there would be a voice of reasoning saying something like "Burnes is probably the best player we can hope for", but most are Hiura or bust...and would prefer to deal with the Dodgers.
  5. I think Jeffress was hurt by 2 teams lone representative being a relief pitcher. Vazquez arguably deserved it, but hand didn't. He's good, but he wouldn't be an allstar if he played for the cubs or dodgers or brewers or any team with multiple selections. Jansen and Hader were fairly obviously ahead of Jeffress, Dolittle was a bit more questionable. Aguilar I don't get to be honest. I'm a bit surprised Yelich got in over him on the player vote...I personally don't think Yelich should be an allstar. Here's hoping Aguilar gets voted up, I read something where LA beat writers think Muncy is head and shoulders above the other 4...yeah he might not even be the 2nd best player on that list...
  6. Hope they go 15 innings. Tell I'm still sore about the rainout? My favorite part of this game is Maddon tactics of using 5 relievers to cover 2.2 innings backfiring. Now he has only 2 or 3 mop up relievers left to try and win. I wish this happened more often to him, it really should. That guy couldn't effectively manage a lemonade stand.
  7. Wait why? I do not remember many people saying they had to offer one of those guys to get Machado...? It was reported by someone unreliable (Joe Arrigo I think) that those two were part of the package and it was "not even close" on Baltimore's end. Total malarkey IMO. Jim Bowden also chimed in riding the coat tails to make it seem like he's not clueless. Dodgers are also a savvy org. They know they have a great chance to sign him in the offseason regardless. I highly highly doubt Verdugo is on the table. It was moreso reported by someone unreliable that the Dodgers had offered both those guys, and then Bowden was saying how it wasn't even close. I don't think many on this board are buying that rumor, the stuff reported by Rosenthal and Heyman is generally going to be more reliable than these randoms.
  8. Keep it up boys! I'd like to see a low-pressure 2 inning brewers debut from Burnes today.
  9. I know Villar has been getting a lot of flack lately, but he's looked really good at the plate over the last week or so. I'm not sure if the numbers back me up, but I don't remember him having been bad at bats lately.
  10. That lineup should be in the brewers optimism thread...that's a WS caliber lineup right there. If I'm going straight optimism though, find a way to get Realmuto as well. Cain/Yelich/Machado/Shaw/Aguilar/Thames/Realmuto/Miller. Occasionally substitute Braun for Thames and Villar for Miller. A guy can dream right?
  11. I like Woodruff and think we'd be selling low on him, but done and done. The leap forward our offense would take with Machado is seriously insane. SS would go from batting 7th or 8th to 3rd consistently. If the orioles are on record saying they want mlb ready pieces, we have an advantage over pretty much everyone with the mlb ready pieces we have in AAA. This has been noted by others, but I couldn't agree more. All that said, I still don't htink we get him. I don't fully buy that we are in the lead to get him. I hope we can get him at a reasonable price, I just don't see it.
  12. Machado will not be a Brewer in 2019. The odds are so remote, and I'd go far as to say they are virtually zero if he ends the season healthy. I'm not sure why it keeps getting discussed, trading for Trout is far more likely than signing Machado in 2019...and that is virtually zero. The article is interesting. Nothing overly specific and I could buy it. I'm not sure how so much information was made available, if the info is legit and this many offers are on the table...I would expect him traded fairly soon, possibly before next weekend.
  13. We should all remember that this would be a bad year. The luxury tax cap is going to keep teams from acquiring the high end contracts. That alone may end all discussion of trading him mid-season. This is also generally tough. The contract is so expensive, you definitely aren't getting any surplus value from him unless he's a top 3 cy young pitcher until it ends, and even then you are barely getting fair value. This type of move may make sense for the Dodgers or Yankees after the season when they can add virtually unlimited payroll, but not mid-season
  14. Woodruff would actually line up perfectly as he pitched 4 innings on 7/2, would be normal rest for him. Wilkerson last pitched 6/26. Maybe they simply think Wilkerson is the better pitcher right now, but agreed it is surprising.
  15. That's one of those offers that seems absurd enough to wonder if it isn't just false. That's not that far off from us offering Hiura and Burnes for Machado and being told we're not even close. Right? If I'm the Dodgers I don't even consider trading Verdugo for Machado unless I'm also getting back Britton. It's a bit easier for the Dodgers to part with a prospect like Verdugo with their positional player situation. They are probably better served to use Verdugo to acquire SP if they were intent on trading him. I think there's a reason Bowden is a former exec and not a current exec. Guy is in the stone-age of understanding baseball. He probably thinks Machado is good because of his high RBI total.
  16. Ill guess Miller 2B Yelich Aguilar Shaw Thames Perez Pina Saladino SS This does seem like something CC would do, I could also see Saladino on the bench with Miller at SS and Villar at 2b to maximize the LH bats.
  17. If that report is true, then nobody is getting Machado. He'll end up staying with the Orioles. I personally don't even believe the Dodgers are offering that, but sometimes teams get desperate and overpay for elite talent.
  18. Yeah, I'd take him for a nothing prospect and a few innings late in the year. Devil's advocate: We have guys like Zagurski that are probably fine to face 10-15 lefty hitters (and ONLY lefty hitters) for August/September. It's up to Stearns/Mark to decide whether a million bucks or whatever it is is worth the upgrade for a small number of hitters. The advantage of Duke is he's clearly the better option over guys like Zagurski if we do end up needing him for the playoffs. Right. And maybe someone pays more. But he isn't likely to be a high priority for any team. Maybe he sneaks under the radar a bit and we can nab him in mid-late August. Just something to monitor. I don't think he should be a deadline deal that we give up a back end of the top 30 guy and cement into the core of the bullpen.
  19. Based on the numbers, it's almost as if he's sacrificing power to make a ton more good contact and use his speed on the bases. Definitely someone to keep an eye on. The Carolina squad has been much more intriguing to follow over the last few weeks with Segovia and now Demi.
  20. https://www.milb.com/milb/news/top-prospects-load-up-futures-game-rosters/c-284484348 I believe only Hiura will be taking part for the Brewers. He looks like the obvious choice to start at 2b unless one of Bichette or Rodgers slides over and takes his spot.
  21. Jennings basically is one and will be in the playoffs. He's been tasked with cleaning up the garbage in a blowout either way when he isn't getting his LOOGY opportunities and that's why he's been a gas can in a few games when we let him get smoked by righties when the game is out of hand in either direction. Yeah, until the Brewers get Albers back and an 8 man bullpen, they really can't use Jennings as a loogy (like he should be). Keep in mind, we could potentially trade for Duke at a very low cost in August. Even if he doesn't turn out to be a playoff roster spot guy, having him in September could be very valuable. If the cost is a nobody prospect and paying his salary...we should be all over that in August. Could lead to some very obnoxious games where Duke is used as a true LOOGY in September and we make 6 or 7 pitching changes on some days...but if it helps us win we should definitely consider it.
  22. Didn't he get hurt about the moment he stepped off the plane in Boston? Not sure they could screw him up that fast. Tyler Thornburg reiterates Red Sox program contributed to injury Thanks for posting, this is exactly what I remember. It might be less the shoulder program and moreso a serious communication breakdown...but regardless I fully blame the Red Sox. If you want the guy to go through an entirely new program like this, they should be checking in and making sure he's doing it right. He's also not the first guy to fall victim to their shoulder program. If my memory is any good, Joe Kelly had a similar though less extensive breakdown when he went over there. I thought even David Price had issues with it at first. Regardless, I'm glad Thornburg is pitching...I hope he finds some success over there.
