Even if he can't play 2b all that well, that's not a huge deal. Eventually I would think Villar, Miller and Saladino would play ss and 2b most of the time...I don't think we'd need Dietrich there much. If his arm plays at 3b, I imagine he'd be fine in RF as Braun/Yelich prefer LF. The LH bat brings more balance as well, and we'll be able to really stack lefties against RH starters. The problem is, you make it sound like Villar, Miller, and Saladino are consistent options that we can feel good about. If we're trading any type of good prospect, I want it to be at a position of need. I'm willing to explore this as a low cost move only. Maybe Gatewood or Grisham + a flier arm. If someone else offers more, so be it. Even that offer might be more than I'm willing to pay, but I look at Dietrich as a low cost bench replacement. If someone values him as a regular, we likely won't get him. I'll add, if Stearns instead explores making an acquisition for a regular SS like Mercer or Iglesias on a rental...maybe that precludes this move. That would shift Saladino and Miller into likely utility roles getting a couple starts a week. It definitely doesn't hurt to do the leg work and explore the option.
