  1. Fair point, I won't say I forgot about Ashby but didn't really consider him when thinking about a replacement for Norris. That said, I honestly don't think any of the above will get into a playoff game regardless...at least a game we are winning. Nobody we are discussing is a top 5-6 option out of the pen or a starter. I'm generally not thrilled with Perdomo/Milner as a better option than Norris yet, and Ashby probably is but for now I think keeping him stretched out is better until we have our top 6 starting options back from the COVID thing. Even considering that, I'm expecting Houser and Lauer to start pitching less innings and shifting into bullpen roles(2-3 innings at a time) that they will more likely see in the postseason.
  2. The alternative to Norris would be Perdomo/Milner. Do you think they are better options? Certainly Norris hasn't had a good first few outings by any stretch, but shouldn't call for a DFA unless you are convinced one of those guys is better. I think we give Norris a few more chances before we cut ties. And he'll actually probably be easier to hide in the back of the bullpen once September rolls around if he doesn't figure it out before then. Regardless, this is a bit of a miss for Stearns at this point clearly unless something drastically changes.
  3. I'm not convinced it's injury related, he still has those occasional "marathon hitting sessions" and I doubt he'd be doing that if he was dealing with a nagging injury. Also 10 days on the couch certainly would have helped that. One side note regarding Yelich that has bugged me a bit(I could be reading into this too much). In interviews when Strickland/Cousins asked what they did in quarantine, the talk was mostly about being at "camp strickland" and able to stay in baseball shape. In interviews with Hader/Lauer, they stayed on their routine...caught each others bullpens. As for Yelich, he caught up on some tv, started learning to play guitar, specifically noted going 10 days without picking up a bat. That's concerning for me. Did he even work out? My biggest fear in this type of contract is getting the next Pujols. A guy that gets the big contract, hits the donuts hard, and coasts through his contract like he has nothing to play for anymore. I have a friend that works the Brewer games and can see more of the pregame workouts than the average fan. They've always pointed out who the hardest and least hard workers are. Moustakas, Gamel, Nelson, Burnes...all very hard workers. Specifically Braun and Yelich were pointed out as the least hard workers. That is of course one opinion based on surely incomplete information. I firmly believe the talent is still there and I think he just needs to get back to work and actually want it.
  4. Well he's going to see plenty of them over the next month and a half. I think I saw we have 13 games against them the next month and a half. Honestly that's kinda stupid to be so bunched together like that. It'll be something like 30% of our remaining games once Monday rolls around.
  5. More inexperience at 1b, that's the second baseman's ball. That said, Woodruff still should have made that play.
  6. I'm hoping for any scenario that involves the Brewers winning 10-0 again...but this time with no injuries
  7. I think you have a good point, he's probably the most talented pitcher in the NL...but I don't think he's gotten the clear best results in MLB. Workload certainly should matter in the CY young race.
  8. Regarding tellez, both Escobar and Peterson could use reps at 1b while tellez has more than enough. Could be part of the thinking.
  9. On a serious note though, assuming he remains effective what's the call as far as innings / pitch count? Can't be more than six given they can go through Topa/Milner/Norris. With Hader back tomorrow as well, do they ever get greedier than that? They might have milner pitch 2 today since he's extremely likely to go back down tomorrow
  10. I suspect we'd be ok if burnes only went 3 innings and then rain delay. The bullpen probably could handle the rest
  11. No guarantee the bullpen would lose the game. Even with Burnes out after a few innings, our bullpen and lineup are better than their bullpen and lineup. And we could easily have a lead in those 2-3 innings.
  12. Would be tempted to go Lindblom tonight against Arrieta and save Burnes for Hemdricks tomorrow. Especially with weather. Still, I understand pressing an advantage if you think you have one. Good news is looks like scattered t-storms, so a bit more optimistic than last night. With the lead we have, i think the better strategy might be going this way and increasing our odds of walking away with at least 1 win than lowering our chance of 1 win but increasing our chance of 2.
  13. I wouldn't call it a waste no matter what, division lead is pretty solid and the silver lining would be limiting innings.
  14. Is it too early for this? Position Player locks(13) Narvaez Pina Tellez Wong Adames Escobar Urias Garcia Cain Yelich JBJ Taylor Peterson Pitching Locks(11) Burnes Woodruff Peralta Lauer Houser Hader Williams Boxberger Cousins Suter Ashby Possibilities pending roster construction Norris Strickland Topa Anderson Vogelbach Reyes Broxton Maile The players in the 3rd bucket, the pitchers may get added pending how RH or LH our given opponent is...also how they pitch in Sept. Position players, Vogel/Reyes are by far more likely than the other 2. Vogel for a PH appearance and Reyes for pinch running. Maile as a 3rd catcher in case CC wants to get cute with PH and having that emergency option. I think in 2018 we carried either 10 or 11 pitchers on the roster...I think we end up more 14/12 for NLDS. I made a couple edits to include Broxton as a possibility. If Taylor doesn't recover well AND we have another outfield injury, Broxton could make it as a defense/speed guy that you hope never touches a bat. I also slid Ashby up to locks and removed Curtiss as he's obviously done for the year.
  15. Every time i mentally put together the Brewers optimal bullpen, i keep forgetting about topa. honestly the depth is good to the point that we can afford an injury to one or two of the non-essential(not burnes/woodruff/peralta/hader/williams) top 14 arms or so and not really miss a beat as far as the post season roster.
  16. That last pitch, he sold out HARD on the changeup. I can't really blame him either. Nice win, let's sweep the doubleheader now
  17. Krod vibes, it's kinda hilarious watching guys continue to think it's gonna be the high fastball when it's almost always the low changeup. I think part of why he's successful with more runners on is guys get RBI's on their mind and overly aggressive...and the changeup makes them pay.
  18. Ugh, this got intense in a hurry. You know mr. chiponhisshoulder is gonna really want this one...
  19. I think an experienced 1b probably makes that play. That throw wasn't THAT far off the mark...
  20. If this is 3 or more runs heading into the 7th, I'd like to see Suter or someone else go for the save. Keep Williams available for the night game if possible.
  21. Ashby's last start 6 IP 1 h, 1 bb, 11 k. My guess is he pitches as long as he is effective up to maybe 90ish pitches max, of course the effectiveness part is probably more relevant based on his last start.
  22. I'm kinda expecting Freddy to get the hook after 5 innings if he cracks 90 pitches and then Box/Williams...and beyond that the loose plan for CC is probably Suter as the closer game 2 if the opportunity arises.
  23. Escobar does not look super comfortable at 1b. If this was a playoff game, I'd pull him after his next atbat for Tellez or someone with more 1b experience. I would also be inclined in blowout games to make a substitution to switch him to 1b to get him more reps there as he certainly could use the live reps.
