  1. A large part of the reason I didn't want Suter in there to start. He needs to be pulled ASAP Who exactly would you have started. Suter is better than Houser and Lindblom and those are pretty much the only other choices. Either of them would have been better choices. Since Houser pitched that last game of the season, Lindblom is the best choice.
  2. At this point, if we can say "well we put up a fight"...I'll say we did well. Just don't get blown out 15-2 in 2 combined games.
  3. Still no Brewers roster? I'm pretty sure I've seen just about every other roster come through my twitter feed...but no Brewers yet.
  4. It isn't chasing stats, though ... moreso playing matchups. The Dodgers lineup is substantially worse against left-handed pitching, so it would make sense to start a lefty. The options are Suter, Lauer or Claudio ... unless they go ultra crazy and pull up Perdomo, Ethan Small or Aaron Ashby. Suter probably makes the most sense, but he's also likely who the Dodgers are expecting. I think it will probably be him, but Lauer does have a history of absolutely owning this Dodgers lineup (sans Betts obviously), and while he hasn't pitched nearly as well as expected this year, he has the most experience and success both against the Dodgers lineup and in that stadium of anyone on the staff. I understand why some people would want to do that. It isn't stupid by any stretch, I personally just wouldn't do it. I don't think he'll be effective the way he's pitching right now. Suter is more effective against RH hitters, at least he has been the last 2 seasons. And it makes sense considering both a cut fastball and changeup will play better against opposite handed hitters than same handed. If the Dodgers were smart(which they are), they would probably just put out a best lineup if Suter started versus loading up opposite handed hitters. Suter still could throw a few good innings though. I like the idea of going Lindblom for a few, and then using whatever pen guys are needed to get through 5. Obviously playing matchups. Figure on Williams and Hader theoretically covering innings 6-9 in game 1 and game 3. For game 2, obviously neither are available so maybe make a point not to pitch Knebel and Peralta so both are available for late innings game 2 if Woodruff can throw 6 or 7 good innings.
  5. I'll start with I absolutely would not pitch layer. I'm just not going to chase those stats from prior years when he's looked so bad this year. I'd maybe keep him on the roster and use him if we get desperate, but I'd really try to avoid pitching him. I would open with probably lindblom with the plan to use him for just 3-4 innings. If we get a lead through 5, williams and hader for 2 each. I have no problem with both guys being unavailable for game 2 as long as they're be available game 3.
  6. This strategy sounds great in theory, until all 4 of your best relievers get used and it's only the 6th inning. So now you have claudio and yardley and knebel trying to close out 3 innings. And then what if woodruff isn't super efficient game 2 and needs 100+ pitches to get through 5+ innings? Your bullpen is gone. Lindblom and houser should start games. I'll add that I anticipate those guys being more like 3-4 inning guys like suter unless they happen to be particularly effective. I'm more than happy to let williams and hader pitch the last 4 combined innings if we manage to get a lead game 1. One thing to note, suter is significantly more effective against rhb than lhb. I'll not necessarily sure the dodgers would load up rhb if we went suter to start game 1.
  7. +1..... Houser should only be used as a last resort. That's a really cool story, but I'm not sure how you plan to get 27 outs. Its not like our bullpen is full of guys with sub 3 eras. We have a few really solid relievers but not enough to run 1 starter and 2 bullpen games in 3 days.
  8. Its a 28 man roster? That's weird. I don't know what other pitcher they would add, so they'll probably have 13 pitchers and 15 position players
  9. Why would we do a bullpen game on game 1? This makes no sense. Wouldn't houser or lindblom make more sense? I would expect both to have short leashes and to see the bullpen heavily used. The only way a suter open makes sense is to load up rh hitters and switch to houser or lindblom in the 3rd or 4th.
  10. No thanks, Cain bailed on this team long ago. That's really unfair. I'll pretty sure if you opt out, you are not allowed to come back based on the rules.
  11. Normally there's a bit more debate here about who's going to be on the playoff roster, but this year seems pretty clear cut. Houser starts game 1, woodruff game 2, lindblom game 3 if we get that far. Pen hader, williams, peralta, suter, claudio, yardley, knebel, rasmussen, topa, black. 13 total pitchers, I'm assuming Anderson isn't ready by game 3 so he's out. Keep both catchers, vogelbach, gyorko, arcia, urias, sogard, peterson, hiura, Taylor, braun, garcia, yelich. Anyone disagree on anything? Seems very straight forward, and a bit of a mismatch on paper to say the least.
  12. My guess is his defense was the primary factor over sogard. I'm a bit surprised they didn't go hiura dh with sogard at 2b though. Can't afford dumb errors today
  13. I kinda figured they had nothing to play for based on their shoddy infield. At least Pham is in their to pad his stats and increase the lead for us. I think I saw on fangraphs today our playoff odds were something like 30%. That has to go up quite a bit if SF loses today. If I read correctly, we would officially control our own destiny and need just one win. Who the heck is starting tomorrow anyway?
  14. I kinda felt like using hader to close that one was a mistake. I'm guessing Freddy is probably closer for game 2 if the situation arises?
  15. I would be more concerned about Hiura if he looks similar next year. This is a weird year, it seems the Brewers as a whole generally didn't handle the stop and start weird year very well. Some did, other teams had more players really produce. If around mid May next year, he has similar ratios...I'll get concerned.
  16. We never seem to pick corner infielders and with the exception of Hiura don't pick bat first guys. Our drafts are all about middle of the diamond athletes and nearly all of them come with questionable hit and power tools. I was going to say, most hitters tend to start out listed as SS, CF, or C and move from there...this is especially true for HS players. I'll also add that Grisham was a bat first player and Turang I wouldn't call an elite athlete...his best tool is definitely his hit tool. It was moreso the Melvin era where we'd grab guys like Monte Harrison or Jacob Gatewood or Victor Roache or Tyrone Taylor that had very questionable hit tools but big power or other tools and were often very raw and we hoped to develop the hit tool.
