  1. At least until the Cubs knocked him out of the game in the fourth inning on Monday. And they did it in their first try.
  2. Or in a tiebreaker situation. I think it’s most common in the NFL where the tiebreaker procedures can be so convoluted. A team could be behind one team in the standings and out of the playoffs in one of those “If the season ended today” presentations. But, if the trailing team has a game remaining against a team with a better record, and would hold the tiebreaker over them, they could still “control their own destiny”. We could hear it this year with the Brewers and Reds or other teams, but probably not until much later in the season, like the final week.
  3. That’s it. in my experience the phrase isn’t used in baseball (or really any sport) until later in the season when winning out is realistically possible.
  4. I have literally only heard the phrase “control your own destiny” in sports to mean that a team can accomplish something by winning its own games regardless of the results of any other games.
  5. The Cubs apparently didn’t find him to be as mystifying as the Brewers did as they scored 9 total runs against him in 4 starts.
  6. So, all they have to do is win out.
  7. I actually did go to a Brewers-Cubs game at Wrigley a few years ago and I wasn’t that amused by the guy next to me who thought it was OK to reach over me and my daughter to high five the Cubs fans on the other side of us whenever the Cubs did anything.
  8. Just go to a Cubs-Brewers game at AFF and you might change your mind. Be sure to sit directly in front of Cubs fans.
  9. I have been wondering how long Frelick is going to last the way he charges around and leaps wildly into walls and other fielders.
  10. Back to back great ABs from Turang and Wiemer.
  11. Players will need a few weeks to get over the Urias trade.
  12. The hits have been cheap, but Peralta is digging himself into a hole with walks and piling up,the pitches to ensure a short start. The offense has a big hole to climb out of now.
  13. Frelick seems to have decided that his approach is going to be to swing as hard as he can at anything inside.
  14. Peralta might have to be perfect tonight to keep the Brewers in the game. Gray can be tough.
  15. Per MLB Network and Bob Nightengale.
  16. The run differential can be misleading when you have a few really lopsided losses. In the Brewers case they win more than their share of the close games and some times have conceded and surrendered a lot of runs when games were out of reach. Like giving up 18 or whatever it was against the Cardinals. My biggest concern all along has been that the weak offense produces almost no easy wins meaning that the bullpen has to be used heavily in almost every win. Look at their day by day results and there are precious few wins without saves, especially in the last two months, and most of those require 3 or 4 relievers. That eventually might take a toll, and Peguero seems to be showing signs of it the last week.
  17. It looks like all the bashing took something out of the Braves too as they are going down meekly to the Angels. The Braves last 6 series: Lose 2 of 3 to White Sox Lose 2 of 3 to Diamondbacks Win 2 of 3 over Brewers Lose 2 of 2 to Red Sox Win 3 of 3 over Brewers. Lose first to Angels So, 5-1 vs Brewers…2-7 vs other teams. They are good but they aren’t as invincible as the Brewers made them look
  18. I think there are a lot of posters here that would disagree with you about patience. There are some who have been railing about the terrible offense from the off-season through today, and others that have complained about the first group for being too negative because the projections say the hitting is going to improve and the Brewers will win the division.
  19. This is a pretty typical performance for the Brewers “taking care of business” against the likes of the Rockies, Tigers, and A’s: Day 1- just take care of business. Day 2- Just win the series Day 3- Let’s salvage one.
  20. Maybe not, but is the top of the strike zone really supposed to be at or below the belt like in the TV box?
  21. Because he threw so many high stress pitches just to make it through 6. Im having flashbacks to last year’s deadline week collapse with the Nats taking on the role,of the Pirates.
  22. The Cubs offense has been pretty potent lately too. Wouldn't count them out. With these teams you have to get out of the mindset that a 3 or 4 run early deficit is insurmountable.
  23. He doesn’t seem to be using the slap hit approach he did his first game or two. Maybe he thinks as a cleanup hitter he’s supposed to swing for the fences.
