  1. I was away for a little while on Saturday and missed his inning.
  2. I’m not talking about any specific situation, but they said yesterday that they only had 2 pitchers available in the bullpen. Maybe they wanted him to be available to pitch in the Cubs series so didn’t want to use him yesterday. But if he can only pitch an inning a week he’s not helping anything.
  3. The home team makes the decision whether or not to start a game. Once it starts it’s in the hands of the umpires.
  4. What is the deal with Shelby Miller? I know he was horrible in his last outing but as far as I know he is still on the roster. But it seems like he wasn’t a candidate to help out yesterday. Are they afraid to use him or saving him for something.
  5. I looked up,the rule and am having trouble pasting it. But, here’s how I would interpret it. If the game is suspended and resumed tomorrow, that is not a doubleheader day. It’s a resumption of a suspended game followed by the regularly scheduled game. So, Patrick would be on the roster for the suspended game. But the rule also allows teams to add a 27th player for the regularly scheduled game, so Patrick would be returned to the minors after completion of the suspended game and a 27th player (presumably someone other than Patrick) could be added.
  6. I grew up in the Milwaukee area and always saw the advertising that "George Webb Predicts Our Braves Will Win 12 Straight League Games in 1957" or whatever the current year was. I also saw the coupon in the Milwaukee Journal Green Sheet every Saturday for a bag of 7 hamburgers for $1. That was when McDonald's was making its first appearance in the Milwaukee area with its 15 cents hamburgers. But I don't remember ever going to a Webb restaurant until I was older and would occasionally stop at one with friends for a late bite after a recreational softball or basketball game or some other night on the town. I now haven't been to one in decades and had to look at a map to see where there is one in the area. Even the one near the Marquette campus is gone.
  7. Yelich hitting is a big factor. But I'm looking for the whole offense to come alive after two dormant games Saturday and Sunday. The Cubs pitching has been pretty solid lately, so runs may not be as easy to come by as they have in some of the recent series.
  8. Actually they did have a 12 game winning streak that triggered a burger promotion in 2018. I think the article in question quoted Counsell as saying that he doesn't recall seeing a George Webb restaurant, not that he had never heard of George Webb or its Brewer win streak promotion. The one saying they caught Counsell lying seems to be addressing something Counsell never said. Considering where the Webb restaurants are located these days and the fact that they tend to be "hole in the wall" eateries and not ones with big roadside signs, it wouldn't shock me if he doesn't recall seeing one because there's a good chance you wouldn't notice it even if you drove by it.
  9. I think the comments being made about winning a game are based on the importance of getting one win on the board and going on from there. The history of baseball, including several situations involving the Brewers, is littered with examples of teams dramatically changing a playoff race by grabbing momentum early in a series and rolling to a sweep. A streaking team can quickly turn in the other direction, and no Brewers fan wants to see that start.
  10. Looking at the latest forecast and projected storm development, I wouldn't be shocked if the second game ends up being postponed before it ever starts. I don't think either team wants to sit through a long weather delay after already having played one game. Because the weather looks clear for the rest of the week after some early showers tomorrow, they could reschedule tonight's game for tomorrow or Wednesday afternoon. They only schedule the makeup game on Monday to avoid having trouble getting all of the games in if there is bad weather later in the week. It looks now like that won't be a problem.
  11. I'd go at it differently. For one thing, I wouldn't use the word "unacceptable" because whatever happens we'll have to accept it,and move on. I would say: 5-0: so incredible coming on the heels of the 14 game winning streak that I would really wonder if this is all real 4-1: Exceptional 3-2: Excellent. Pick up a game, win the season series, and leave the Cubs with no more head to head opportunities. 2-3: OK, but missing a chance to put the Cubs in a huge hole. 1-4. Concerned A 5 game lead with 34 games left sounds good, but you don't want to get there by losing 4 games off your lead in 5 days. A reminder that the Brewers hot streak is over and there is a lot of season left. 0-5; Alarm. the appearance of a historic collapse in progress. It would present a major challenge to the confidence shown by this relatively inexperienced team. As always, win one first then go from there to knock the worst case scenarios off the table.
  12. I don’t know the rule but my guess is that the second day would be a separate event so the second day could be a different player. Whatever the rule is I would want Peralta in the first game if it looks like the rain will be later. The last thing you want is to have the second game start and be subject to long delays and end up wasting Peralta after just a few innings
  13. Based on weather forecasts today’s games could be threatened by thunderstorms, especially starting later this afternoon.
  14. I can honestly say that I really dont care about the winning streak ending. I will forget about this game tomorrow, especially if the Brewers can win one. I am fixated on the Cubs series because it really does seem like the Cubs last shot.
  15. BTW, I’m not going to go through the whole thread, but was there any report on Frelick? The fact that he wasn’t even used as a pinch hitter when several opportunities presented themselves makes me wonder if he is headed for one of those 3 day absences or the IL.
  16. I disagree, but it’s hard to say whether pitchers are th spooked by the threat of a bunt. But again, so much of it is situational. So, however useful bunting might be in some situations I don’t think this was one of those situations.
  17. I really don't think the bunt has been a significant part of the Brewers offense. But, regardless, for the reasons I gave I think that was not the right situation for a flat out sacrifice. Bunting for a hit in the middle of a game is a completely different situation. Even Turang’s bunt before Monasterio’s HR last night was not a give up an out sacrifice.
  18. I hate it. First, on the road you probably need more than one run to win, especially with the bottom of the bullpen trying to close it. Second, you’ve got a left handed hitter who might be able to advance the runner by pulling the ball to the right side without giving away an out. Third, one of the a slowest runners on the team is on second base, making an out at third a high probability unless the bunt is near perfect Oh well, we knew this was going to be a tough game to win with the lineup and the bullpen situation. Now comes the 5;game series that will set the stage for the rest of the season.
  19. Yeah, I heard the league leading 89 runs mentioned last night. But with no context I wasn’t sure how unusual that is.
  20. It’s the exact lineup, not necessarily batting order, that I expected except that I didn’t know Perkins would be back.
  21. I expected Frelick to be out today after he aggravated something in the ninth inning last night. Maybe he’ll be available to pinch hit today but at least be full go tomorrow Getting Perkins back helps. It’s hard to have confidence in a hitter who shows bunt every time he bats.
  22. I don't usually look at games as "gravy" games, but tomorrow might be as close as they come. With Hall on the IL and Mears, Ashby, Koenig, Uribe, and Megill all having pitched yesterday and today, the bullpen is going to be pretty thin tomorrow. I doubt if any of those 5 will be used tomorrow. with the doubleheader against the Cubs on Monday. Quintana might have to go at least 6 even if it means taking one for the team. It might also be a good idea to give Frelick a day off if he tweaked his knee or hamstring again. Hope for Quintana to be great and for the makeshift lineup to put up a bunch of runs and if they don't just live to fight on Monday.
  23. Worst case scenario in this game. Burn out more of the bullpen. Have to somehow pull this one out because there’s not going to be much help behind Quintana tomorrow.
