  1. Using the Cardinals series as an example, if the Brewers fall behind by four runs then the opposing team will use a less talented relief pitcher. For example, on Friday, Keston hit his home run off Kodi Whitley. Whitley was just recalled from Triple-A and has not been particularly effective in 2022. On Saturday, the Brewers plated two runs off TJ McFarland in the 9th to lose 8-3. McFarland’s ERA was 7.31 entering that contest. Understandably, I believe the Brewers offense is more effective against bad pitchers compared to good pitchers. I don’t think it is fair to say the Brewers offense is simply better when they are losing.

  3. The 2005 season when the Brewers finished .500 was such a fun year. That was an exciting offense with: Weeks, Fielder, Hardy, Jenkins, Lee, Hall, Cirillo, good Wes Helms and yes, Brady Clark.

  5. I think a broad point is that Narvaez, by design, is an imperfect catcher. He hits RHP relatively well and when paired with a catcher who hits LHP well then the Brewers get good production from the catcher spot. Combining two imperfect catchers through platoon splits is usually better and more efficient than spending $20+ million on Realmuto - if Realmuto would even consider Milwaukee as a destination. We can’t devote 20% of our payroll to a catcher.
  6. In 2020, when Urias had a .608 OPS and Grisham had .808 OPS and won Gold Glove plus Davies had a 2.73 ERA - the trade looked pretty dim. Now, in 2022 the trade looks great. Probably still for both sides despite Grisham’s slow start.

  10. Good point. I suppose my observation is Singleton profiles similarly to Rowdy and having two players limited exclusively to 1B/DH could be tough when rosters contract to 26. A LH power bat off the bench seems always appropriate, though.

  12. It is too bad Jon Singleton is a LHB like Rowdy. I don't think Milwaukee wanted two LH 1B/DH types with Tellez and Vogelbach. I'm not sure McCutchen is our long-term solution as DH against RHP. Singleton has a .948 OPS against RHP in Triple-A through 31 AB. As a team, the Brewers have .562 OPS from the DH position - which is better than the .313 OPS from 3B. Singleton might be our best option as DH against RHP.

  14. Is it more likely Valerio or Weimer gets a call up before a hitter from Nashville? Can Valerio play more than 2B? If Rowdy got hurt, I definitely think Singleton would get his shot. Urias hopefully is healthy soon.

  18. 2021 salaries: Realmuto: $20 million Perez: $14.2 million Molina: $9 million d’Arnaud: $8 million Contreras: $6.65 million Maldanado: $3.5 million Narvaez: $2.5 million Dollar for dollar, I think Omar maybe among the more productive catchers on this list. Remember, he is only supposed to hit RHP. Anything more is gravy.

  21. Omar was the ninth most valuable catcher in baseball in 2021 according to WAR. Over the course of a season, that seems pretty good to me. Omar had an .805 OPS against RHP pitching in 2021, which is what he is meant to do. Feliciano doesn’t have an extra base hit in Nashville yet through 25 PA. Overall, I’m pleased with how Milwaukee has handled the catcher position in recent years.

  23. Summer has been Devin’s best months in his 97 career big league games.
