  1. If I calculated correctly, his OPS over his last four games is 2.194. That isn't even video game numbers anymore.
  2. Has Ponce shown enough to say he is a better option, though? If the Brewers viewed him highly there have been several chances to promote him to AAA.
  3. I get the angst over Lyles’ recent performances but given the Brewers proclivity for carrying several guys with big league experience in the AAA bullpen was Ponce even guaranteed a AAA spot next season? It would seem Williams, Sanchez, Barker, Griep and Perdomo if he is brought back would be ahead of Ponce, plus Andrews if they push him. That’s not even taking into account Olczak or the possibility that Derby gets moved to the bullpen. I view this as similar to when they dealt Hanhold. He might work his way into an MLB spot but his biggest recent calling card is being good to very good on a team that has had a lot of very good to great relievers the past couple of years.
  4. I feel like I've made this post multiple times, but Antoine Kelly was supposed to be raw, right? Also, is it weird that I'm getting kind of psyched for Bowden Francis?
  5. I know team record is a poor way to judge a group prospect wise, but given that most of them are in their first pro season and arguably the team's top prospect has missed most of the season with an injury, the fact that the DSL team is in an actual division title chase has to be cause for optimism, albeit of the kind that won't hit Milwaukee for some years.
  6. As far as Supak, the only thing I could think of is that they think that it is better to showcase him for a trade in AA given that several guys who dominated at Biloxi last year haven't exactly had as much success in AAA (Brown, Olczak, Sanchez). Elsewhere, it's nice to see Lindell shake off his bad first two outings. Since then he has been simply dominant.
  7. Given how young the offense is this season, it is refreshing to look at the box scores and stats and see that pretty much every player on the main DSL team has been showing at least a minimum competence in hitting. The third string catcher is the only one with an OPS below .600. That hasn't been the case in recent years. Double digit stateside promotions for next season are possible just from the position players. They also have two of my "Should I be paying more attention to him?" prospects. They weren't high profile signings and didn't start turning it on until recently, but Sebastian Burciaga and Joneiker Ponce de Leon have been consistently hitting above a few much more highly touted prospects in the lineup.
  8. Nice to see Pablo Abreu is playing again. Despite the slow start, I'm still high on him. Also, Devin Williams' last 10 stats are absolutely amazing. They'd have to be really confident in Rasmussen to call him up this year because they don't need to add him to the 40-man yet after the season. Williams on the other hand is making it a distinct possibility he could see Milwaukee this year.
  9. According to a couple of stories I've read, the US women's team generated more revenue for the soccer federation than the men's team from 2016-2018, and I imagine the difference is only going to be greater now. Obviously that isn't the case elsewhere, but there is a case to be made that FIFA hasn't exactly made a sufficient effort to either expand the reach of the women's game or market the tournament (the complaints about the schedule, etc.).
  10. Antoine Kelly's minor league career has started about as well as possible. For a guy that raw, I wasn't expecting a WHIP of .25 through two outings, even in the AZL.
  11. I'd have to think were it not for whatever his injury was, Lazar would be in Carolina by now. His stat line is absurd. In 11 appearances total this season, he has never posted fewer strikeouts than innings pitched (and has had more in all but one), has never given up more than two runs and has only walked more than one batter once. Jarvis has also quietly had himself a good season, especially for a teenager. Between the work of those two and Turang, if there is such a thing as a good loss in the minors, this might be it given you could make a good case those are the top three prospects currently on the Timber Rattlers. And while it hasn't been exactly smooth sailing for the AZL teams, if you add in guys who were hurt, the outlook looks a lot better hitter-wise when you look at combining them next year for the Vibes. Even just accounting for players currently 20 or younger (Devanney has been solid but is likely ticketed Wisconsin), and assuming no repeats, you could assemble a roster of: C: Melendez, Hall and Marquez or Miller 1B: Hardin 2B: Valerio SS: Castillo 3B: Familia IF: McGee, Silva OF: Rodriguez, Ernesto, Florentino, Leones, Cipion There is reason for optimism with a lot of those guys.
  12. I could see the Brewers trying to bring a fair number of the players here back on minor league deals, especially the middle infielders. Heck, you could make a case for Aviles being the second best middle infield prospect between Biloxi and Rocky Mountain given the struggles Coca and some of the other young players have endured this season.
  13. The injuries have delayed him, but Nash Walters is starting to pitch pretty well. Nine innings over two starts without giving up a run is tough to do in the Pioneer League.
  14. Two straight 10 K, 0 ER games for Francis, this time with no walks.
  15. Am I seeing correctly that the system's starting pitchers combined to give up three runs and two of those were from the coop team? That is pretty darned good. It's nice how Ashby is asserting himself lately. With Brown reverting to his college control, Ashby might be the top arm in the system right now.
  16. It's nice to see them getting some of the high school and juco guys signed. With the addition of the second AZL team this is a good year to be signing most of the draft picks.
  17. Bowden Francis' season thus far might mark the first time a guy has posted a 5.22 ERA at a level and actually made me more intrigued by his prospect status. 10+ K/9 and less than a hit an inning when he's pitching a level higher than he probably should be is at least something.
  18. I'm curious to know what kind of charge you're talking about. It it is a help defender, that means someone is open. If it is the on ball defender, that means you haven't actually beaten your man if he is still between you and the hoop, and if you're talking about the plant and fall down on the push off, they have to be pretty certain that the guy is going to push off (otherwise planting looks really foolish), probably because he's been getting away with it because the officials aren't calling it unless the defender falls down (although admittedly there has seemed to be some degree of improvement in this in recent years). As to bunting, as others have said if it's a reasonably close game, get on base however you can. If it isn't close, I guess my question is, was the team shifting? I have no problem with shifting, but doing so you accept the risk that a team is going to try to bunt against it. If you employ a strategy that tips the scales in your favor but expect the other team to abide by an unwritten rule that negates the potential counter to it, did the pitcher "earn" the no-hitter.
  19. Perhaps one of the most impressive things about Grisham's recent run is that he's managed to hit for much more power and maintain his walk rate while striking out less. He has 26 walks to 16 strikeouts since May 1 and his K rate in that stretch is quickly approaching 10 percent. There is locked in and there is whatever is going on with Grisham right now.
  20. This draft so far seems almost a reverse of some of the recent ones. Pitching early followed by a lot of bats. Lots of college juniors with one prep and no senior signs.
  21. No, but I look at him, his good-field no-hit profile, and I think his ceiling is far lower than that of Feliciano, Henry, and Fry. He loses out in the numbers game. I'd rather take my chances with Cooper Hummel behind the plate. Now, there's also Kahle and Thomas Dillard in the mix. Granted Hummel and Dillard may be bench types who are OF/1B/C types, but I just don't see where McDowell fits. Martin Maldonado has accumulated about 12 WAR in his career. Just saying. Also, Hummel and McDowell have fairly similar stats this season, basically if Hummel had one fewer home run it would be even.
  22. Did not expect Feliciano would be leading the Carolina League in home runs at this point in the season.
  23. This regime isn't exactly averse to upside pitching projects in the early rounds either. Caden Lemons and Nash Walters both fall into that mold.
  24. Anyone know what kind of stuff Bettinger has? It doesn’t show up in his season ERA yet but he might be the best pitcher in the organization (non-Aaron Wilkerson division) since May 1.
