  1. I'll say it before David gets a chance: It looks like the strategy this year is 5 pitchers, 5 position players, 5 pitchers, 5 position players. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. How can a team with 4 top prospects be last in the Southern League in Batting Average. I'm not even counting Belcher. I know they are doing well record-wise but some of you have to be a little bit disappointed in the long hitting droughts that this group is putting together. I keep waiting for them to erupt but they continue to get low hit totals on a regular basis. I think anyone who says he's not disappointed by Huntsville's lack of offense would be lying. It's a prospect laden lineup and we want to see the whole team get hot at the same time. So far, it's seemed like only one player gets hot at a time. Kade, then Prince, then Brad, then Tony. But I think it's important to point out that the last wave of prospects also struggled in their AA debuts. Hardy, Hart, Krynzel, and Nelson (though Nelson deserves an asterisk for his injury) all had a tough time adjusting and really didn't start hitting until after almost a half season. And they didn't even skip A+ like Weeks, Fielder, and Gwynn did. So I think we just need to continue to be patient. Like the last wave of prospects, I expect this wave to find their groove eventually.
  3. Well, in de la Rosa's case, it shouldn't be a surprise. At least we'll have an excuse for his terrible performance so far.
  4. Chavez, Gwynn, who else do you want me to light a fire under? Weeks and de la Rosa, please.
  5. I wonder if Pitt will skip Fogg's spot in the rotation. Going up against just Benson and Wells isn't too exciting.
  6. Looks like Hendrickson's getting rocked today. The Tribe has given up 7 runs on 10 hits in 3 innings, although Indy has made 3 errors.
  7. CBS Sportsline's game tracker has a guy named Joel Rivera on the Brewers bench. See this thread: forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=2145.topic He's not on the Major League roster.
  8. I thought I read somewhere that he throws in the mid nineties and has a wicked curve ball, I'm not sure about the wicked curve ball part. I know in his Brewerfan.net interview (link on the left side of the page) he mentioned that he'd pretty much always been a one pitch pitcher, because he'd never had to use anything other than his fastball. I took that to mean that his breaking ball is a work in progress, but I haven't seen him pitch yet. Maybe some of the guys who've seen him can chime in... Edit: Here's the relevant part of the article I was referring to. Sounds like he's more confident in his change than his curve. BF: What sort of pitches do you throw right now? DS: Mainly my fastball. I'll use that a lot. This year I started working with a curveball. Our pitching coach, Rich Sauveur, showed me how to throw a curveball. I really had no idea how to throw one. I had never really thrown one. It was always a fastball. I was a closer so I never really knew about the starting. So I finally started getting the curveball. That started helping me out now. And then my change-up has gone from being an average pitch to an above average pitch for me. I'll use a 3-0, 3-1, 2-0, whenever I get to use it on a fastball count. That's it - fastball, curveball, change-up.
  9. I have a feeling he'll be three years older when he returns http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. if a guy wants to be called sweet lou, then call him that, dont call him soemthing else just cause YOU like it better, its not YOUR nickname. Totally wrong. If a guy tells you he wants you to call him something, you don't. Why? Because that's lame. If I told you to call me Snake, and you are not lame, then you would call me Worm, because you realize how lame it is that I asked you to call me Snake. Or you would call me something compeletely unrelated to snake-dom. Good nicknames always come from the caller and not the callee. And until one of you actually become friends and hang out with Lou, you dont ahve the right to call him whatever you want. Again I disagree. Some of the best nicknames in sports are created on SportsCenter (and no, I'm not talking about Berman's middle names). The SC writers typically are not friends with the athletes.
  11. I think that Hart earning the SL MVP has literally hurt his prospect standing more than it's helped it. Skepticism about whether he deserved it or not has lead to skepticism about his play in general. Negativity begot negativity. I say whether or not he deserved it, he's a heck of a prospect and I'm giddy with anticipation for his Major League career. Ok, tangent time. Hart has been compared to Sexson a lot because of their similar body types. One poster (I forget who you are, sorry) posted their minor league stats, which are eerily similar at the same ages/levels. Hart's stats Sexson's stats Here are their HR totals by age: Sexson Hart 19: 14 11 20: 22 24 21: 16 13 22: 31 4 (so far) Beginning at age 22, Sexson has hit 30+ HRs every year, except 2002, when he hit 29. I'm anxious to see if Hart approaches 30 this year. Normally, I dismiss apparent statistical coincidences like this, but given their body type, it's worth keeping an eye on to see if Hart's power stroke by age continues on Sexson's path. And for the record, Sexson's career minor league AVG and SLG: .273 and .474. Hart's (not including this year): .300 and .487. (Sorry, I don't have OBP numbers, but it's no secret Sexson didn't really start taking walks until recently.) I'm not saying Hart is the next Sexson. I'm just watching these numbers because the similarities are too close to ignore.
  12. Could Hart be one of those guys that, despite everyone saying he isn't special, proves everyone wrong? Hart isn't exactly a sleeper. A lot of people, including Jim Powell, myself, and other Brewerfan posters, have been pimping Corey for a long time. Comparisons to Richie Sexson and Chipper Jones have abounded. But I do agree that he's underrated, largely because of his low walk rate. I think he'll hit at the big league level and I hope that he'll learn to walk a little more as he progresses. In his peak seasons, I could see Corey hitting .290 with 30+ HRs and 100 RBI. So yeah, I think he'll be better than an average Major Leaguer.
  13. I don't know frog, my take on the ganja debate over in off topic (posts #1994 and 1995) were both pretty solid efforts! Yup, RoCo, it looks like you avoided the Brewer curse. Congrats.
  14. Hey RoCo, chill out. p.s. That was post # 1993 for you. As a Brewer fan, I predict you'll suffer at least a dozen losing posts before your next successful effort. Go Sheets! Wooh!
  15. Dumbest post ever on brewerfan? No way. There have been way dumber posts. I thought this one was hilarious and educational, since I never knew where 420 came from. Thanks, RyDogg. Isn't it ironic that the people who get all riled up when pot is mentioned (not encouraged) are the same people who could use a hit every now and then? Lighten up. p.s. For my final marijuana innuendo, I give you The Toking Emoticons: http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smokin.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/pimp.gif
  16. (insert 4/20 joke here) It's high time for another Sheets win.
  17. The Brewers have seen 145 pitches through 6 innings. 200 pitches is within reach. Wow. Just awesome. Edit: Thanks, Scotty Po, for the correction. My calculator must be broken http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif Still, 200 is within reach.
  18. Did Doug Davis have a visit from Captain Morgan and his unweildy magic marker? http://brewers.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/150277.jpg
  19. Does that make me the king of the double entendre? Only if by king you mean Elvis.
  20. A picture of a pig? What does it mean? Does it mean David is a pig and will never lose that sticky 10 pounds? Does it mean BRN will archive the shows when pigs fly, which obviously hasn't happened yet for this pig? If only that pig were a lemur I'd understand what it meant...
  21. The Cap Times comes out in the afternoon, so it'll probably be a few hours...
  22. How about a congrats to Mike Jones for apparently taking it upon himself to get another opinion! I'm sure he's well aware of this organization's mismanagement (or "bad luck") of young pitchers. The fact that he wasn't afraid to ask for a second opinion is a promising sign.
  23. three hours and 45 minutes!? In a 3-2 game, I'd guess there was a rain delay.
  24. I can't imagine an injury that would screw up the subtleties of hitting more than a severe wrist injury akin to Nelson's. How about gunshot wound to the face? Or getting squished into an 8 x 10" cube by a trash compactor?
  25. Right now he's striking out once every 8 ABs, which is really quite good. A full season of 560 ABs is only a 70K season at that rate. This contrasts mightily with his rate in Huntsville of more than a K every 4 ABs. It seems pretty obvious to me that for Krynzel, walks mean strike outs. He's not striking out much in the AFL, but he's not walking at all. When his walk totals have risen in the past, so has his K rate. To take walks, you have to work deep in the count. Obviously, he's more prone to K when he's taken more pitches. So I think he has an important decision to make. He can either be a high strike out/high walk kind of guy like Adam Dunn, or he can go up there and hack at every first pitch and become known as a good contact hitter, like Eric Young. I'm not sure which is better in his case.
