  1. I'm not hating on the deal because it gives us more flexibility to make other moves. If no other moves are made, I may change my stance. The one thing I'd like to see is more of a shift to get quality over quantity in prospects. Our 40 man roster and rule five draft decisions are going to start getting harder thanks to our minor league depth, so I'd rather grab a stud 19/20 year old than guys who will have to be added to the 40 man roster in the next two years (not saying these two will--just a general position).
  2. The writers should have a committee that can throw out ballets if they are this flagrant.
  3. Why don't we re-frame the question to take out the argument of whether we should or shouldn't go for it this year? Let's assume, for fun, MA told Stearns that he MUST make the playoffs this year to keep his job. What three moves do you make to get this to happen?
  4. 1. L. Brinson 2. J. Hader 3. I Diaz 4. M. Phillips 5. L. Erceg 6. L. Ortiz 7. P. Bickford 8. G. Lara 9. J. Lopez 10. T. Clark 11. C. Ray 12. M. Diplan 13. C. Ponce 14. K. Medeiros 15. N. Kirby 16. R. Cordell 17. B. Woodruff 18. C. Coulter 19. M. Harrison 20. J. Nottingham 21. D. Williams 22. F. Peralta 23. J. Gatewood 24. D. Orimoloye 25. C. Mclanahan
  5. Guerra reminds me of Fiers in the sense that he is over 30, has team control left, and every time he is out there, I feel like he could throw a shutout. I'd keep him another year unless I get a top prospect or two for him. The issue I have with him, is he will be 33-35 during our next window, so he has more value to other teams than to us. I think Peralta has more value than most think, even if it is just as a #4 workhorse, and he is a realistic trade candidate. I think we are in a great situation where we don't HAVE to trade anyone. If the deals aren't there, try at the deadline.
  6. The players in the draft change every year, so the strategy should change too. If you have two players who you see as equal (or very close to equal) talent, then I'd for sure grab the under slot guy to free up some cash in a later round. Now, grabbing a B talent in the first round to get a B in the second round instead of an A- and C+ combo would be harder to swallow, but it's all based on how they value the prospects--which is something we don't know.
  7. I'd pass on Puig. He'd be a buy low candidate, but he hasn't hit this year, and there are some makeup concerns which is something I'm avoiding on a young team. I understand the injury and decline concerns with Braun, but if it's the bottom of the ninth with two out, down a run--he's the guy I want up there. He may not be that guy in three years, but with no one ready to carry that torch with him gone, I'd put a premium on his value and have to be blown away with any deal. I'll gamble on him being productive in three years before I gamble a few B- prospects or Puig regaining form.
  8. Can someone make a poll? I need to vote.
  9. Yes. He's their guy.
  10. I'm guessing Payano. Wildcat mentioned that the scouts were raving about him.
  11. Bickford makes me feel better about this trade. I think we got too much value for Smith, and a little under value for Lucroy, but as for the day, I'm happy. I'm surprised he didn't make some lesser deals for lottery tickets.
  12. LAD--Holmes and two lottery tickets. Atl--Allard and a lottery ticket Bos--Kopech, and two lottery tickets CHC--Happ and Cease
  13. I'm not hating on any of the players we got, but I thought we'd get more. This seems like a trade we'd make in the offseason, not with 1.5 years remaining on his contract. Zimmer made a lot of sense--an arm like Holmes or Allard...I must really have overvalued his market. I wasn't a fan of the Ray pick, either. I guess I'm just a little out of touch with this front office. I'll wait a few years before passing final judgement, but I'm really going to miss Lucroy.
  14. I'm hoping it's Atlanta. I'd love Allard.
  15. I will choose the best player over the package 9 out of 10 times. However, I'd prefer the package over Gallo. Allard would be my number 1 target. Zimmer in centerfield next year makes a lot of sense if we get an upside pitcher with him. I think we could get the value NYM are offering this winter, so I'd rather hold on to him than make that deal. Kopech > Devers mainly because I want upside pitching. The Dodgers have some really nice pieces (Holmes, Bellinger, Verdugo) So does Pit (Meadows, Keller, Hayes, Mcguire)
  16. I think Frazier is a better prospect, so straight up, I'd take him. However, he isn't THAT much better, so if taking Zimmer gets us better secondary pieces, I'd go that route.
  17. I like Frazier better than Zimmer too, but I think Zimmer would be the guy we could get.
  18. They may not be going to Gallo to replace Prince because he is about to get traded. I wouldn't turn my nose up at Gallo, but I'd be more excited about getting Allard or Aiken. Since it's Friday and I want to put off writing my grant, here are the teams I'd like to be dealing with: ATL: My dream spot for Lucroy to land. Allard is the prize for me, but they are deep in prospects that I love. Starting Offer: Allard, Riley, Herbert, Inciarte (To be flipped next year) Cle: This is more than they'd give, but I'd start here. Starting Offer: Zimmer, Aiken, Mejia, Mckenzie, Kaminski LAD: Starting Offer: Holmes, Bellinger, Barnes, Stewart Tex: A lot depends on the value of Gallo. Starting Offer: Gallo, Taveras, Jurado, Matuella Bos: Starting offer: Benintendi and 2 lottery arms or Kopech, Devers, Chavis CHC: Not my favorite spot to trade Lucroy, but they have talent on the farm Starting offer: Contreras, Happ, Cease, Mckinney
  19. I'd like to see Wren or Reed. They should get a chance to win a bench spot next year. If we somehow got Zimmer from Cleveland, we'd be set the next few years--especially if Maverick gets back on track.
  20. As excited as I am about the idea of getting top tier prospects for Lucroy, I'm a little worried we aren't going to get a great package like we got for Gomez/Fiers. I don't want Sterns to panic and lower his value of Lucroy. If he isn't traded at the deadline, it tells me that the offers for him weren't good enough. I'd be more disappointed if we got a mediocre package than if we hang on to him all year and try again in the offseason. Heck, I think people are even undervaluing the comp pick. If we happen to have a bad season, get a comp for Lucroy, and get a competitive balance Comp A, we'd have a massive pool which could net us a couple of top ten guys. Plus, we'd get 1.5 years of Lucroy helping the younger guys ease into their roles.
  21. Rutherford Pint Puk Groome Lowe In that order.
  22. I did vote, and I liked the exercise a lot. 1-It gavr me something to look forward to everyday during my lunch break. 2-I felt I was forced to pay attention to the draft more so I didn't look stupid to everyone by picking Alec Hansen or someone to go first overall.
  23. Count me in on the Rutherford bandwagon, although, I wouldn't be upset if they take Pint. I feel our minor league depth is good enough to focus on upside in this draft. If we are going for quantity over quality, picking someone like Collins or Lowe and then spending later in the draft would make more sense than Ray or Senzel. My Board: 1. Puk--He won't be there, but if something happens, I think we have to take him. 2. Rutherford--I think his age will let us move him quicker through the system 3. Pint--If we picked Pint and he flamed out, I wouldn't regret the pick. Taking chances on possible TOR pitchers is something we should be doing. 4. Groome--His stock falling worries me, however, see Pint note. 5. Lewis--Too good of a hitter not to be in the top 5, but I'm not counting on him being avaiable at 5. If they want to save money and spend later: 6. Lowe 7. Collins
  24. 1.10 Manning They were hoping Ray slipped to them.
