  1. When does this Rosiak start? Have we heard anything from him yet? Hunt has been filling in for Haudricourt. Despite giving me the feeling that he's a bit out of his element, Hunt has done better than I would have thought he was capable of.
  2. Byrd made it on the player vote, so he wasn't a "pity" pick. Instead of Bourn and Meek, I would have gone McCutcheon and Oswalt- that would be less of a reach both ways. Wigginton, Chris Young, Fausto Carmona, Joakim Soria, and Matt Thornton were the other "pity" picks- Soria deserves it anyhow, but I think Konerko or Rios would have been better picks for the W-Sox. Looks like Prado starts for Utley, and Phillips was named as a reserve. One of them would have to drop out for Weeks to make it. I agree Votto is the biggest exclusion so far. There are so many good NL 1b- Dunn also deserved consideration before Howard and Fielder.
  3. The Giants would seem to have the better end of the deal. I realize that Texas is looking at short-term value, but it seems like Ray has more value than Molina. The Giants cleared a spot for their young catcher while you'd think that with Saltalamacchia, Teagarden, and Ramirez, Texas eventually needs to find out if any can contribute- although Treanor was starting, so I guess in a way that's been decided, and Molina's definately an upgrade over Treanor.
  4. This may sound like an over-reaction to today's game, but doesn't Villanueva have options and is it possible that he is the one sent down?
  5. So is there absolutely no chance that they need that roster spot for someone else before the end of the year?
  6. From JSOnline, to follow up: "Minors note: Some of you have noticed that the Class A Brevard County box score from yesterday listed Logan Schafer as pinch-hitting and playing third base in a 15-7 loss in Daytona . For one thing, Schafer is a center fielder, not a third baseman. For another, he had surgery last week to repair an inguinal hernia and also has a broken foot that will sideline him for the remainder of the season. I ran that by assistant general manager Gord Ash and he speculated that Peter Fatse, who began the year at Class A Wisconsin and was moved up to Brevard, might have been assigned Schafer's number, leading to confusion by the scorer in Daytona."
  7. From JSOnline: "With left-hander Doug Davis nearing his activation from the disabled list (inflammation of the lining around the heart), someone will likely be bumped out. It won't be Yovani Gallardo or Randy Wolf, and it probably won't be right-hander Dave Bush, either, because he prevents a rotation with four lefties." I've read this over and over, but I don't understand why the rotation couldn't have 4 lefties. There are many rotations with 4 righties, aren't there? They never give a reason why there can't be 4 lefties in the rotation. Not that I think Bush should necessarily be the one to go.
  8. Dana Eveland dfa again, if he can't pitch for the Pirates you wonder how many more chances he has left.
  9. I thought maybe I was the only one here that was at Ripken's 3000th hit! I remember heading to the game and hearing that he was 3 hits away, and thinking there was not much of a chance he'd get 3 hits in one game....
  10. Update on Jamey Wright, was DFA by Cleveland, signed by the A's and now with AAA Sacramento. Also Saul Rivera was DFA by the Diamondbacks and demoted to AAA Reno.
  11. 10 baserunners and no runs. How come we can't score from 2nd on a single? That's twice, and a runner on 3rd with only one out doesn't mean we can score.
  12. Dave Nelson just said Weeks needed a day off. Wonder if Macha will agree. Do you think a good manager can tell when a player needs a day off, before he starts hitting the skids?
  13. Meanwhile, while it is good that the Diamondbacks knocked around Lilly and the Cubs' middle relief today, it makes me wonder why the Brewers couldn't do it.
  14. This is absolutely unbelievable. This is the Pirates, right? What is up with Hoffman? When does he get replaced?
  15. That's been a theme in this minor league forum before, and I say don't hold your breath. Not saying these aren't very good prospects, just that they won't all be great major league players. Seems silly now, but I think I remember a few years back wondering how Dave Krynzel, Steve Moss, Jason Belcher, Brad Nelson, and Corey Hart were all going to fit in the same outfield as Jenkins and Podsednik. As for Lucroy and Salome, isn't there always going to be a need for two catchers? I guess I don't see the absolute need to trade one, unless there's a good deal to be had and Kottaras proves to be a long-term option.
  16. A couple things I posted in the game thread: It's the first time the Brewers have outscored their opponents by at least 35 runs in a 3-game period. I believe it hasn't happened since 1949 that a team has outscored the same team by more than 35 in a 3-game period. Edit: should have said more than instead of at least
  17. Looks like you have to go back to 1949 to find the last time a team has beaten another team 3 times in a row by a 35-run margin.
  18. The Brewers have scored 47 runs in the past 4 games. They've only scored more runs in a 4 game span two other times- April 7-11, 1978 they scored 49 and July 15-18, 1996 they scored 48. The Brewers have never before had a 3-game span where they have outscored the opposition by 35 runs or more. They twice outscored the opposition by 29 over a 3-game period, April 7-9, 1978, 40-11; and Sept 17-19, 1982, 34-5.
  19. Cole Gillespie has been called up by Arizona and has a pinch-hit double in his first major-league AB.
  20. Cole Gillespie has been called up by Arizona and has a pinch-hit double in his first major-league AB.
  21. Caching woahs solvvd. Sorry just saw this thread and couldn't resist.
  22. This is ridiculous, and I rarely criticize moves because who am I to think I know better than them? Wasn't today's game proof that we need Stetter?
  23. It was in an article I read on mlb.com. I don't have a link at this point, but I'm sure it's still there if you want to look it up. The article focused on the Yankees, there was just the one sentence about the Brewers.
