  1. Of current Brewer pitchers with over 70 Brewer innings pitched, Vargas has the best winning percentage and the worst ERA. Now that's irony.
  2. Mets recalled Robinson Cancel and DFA Elmer Dessens. Braves released Jeff Bennett, as posted in the major league forum. Reds called up Justin Lehr. Dodgers traded Claudio... oh right never mind. However, Vinny Rottino is expected to be assigned to AA Chattanooga.

  4. I think you already know that De la Rosa is with the Rockies. 6 years later and he finally seems to be figuring it out. Even the Royals gave up on him. Congrats to the Rockies for being so patient.
  5. Thanks, it was made by JumpinMacFlash and I appreciate that he lets me use it. It was made when that was the Brewer infield, which is why there's no Gallardo.
  6. I know nothing about Ladendorf, but I hope he isn't a good prospect because Cabrera seems like a very minor upgrade.
  7. I know he isn't anything special, but he does have a 3.96 ERA and 1.15 WHIP since leaving the Brewers, even if is mostly out of relief (4 starts, 15 relief appearances for 48 total innings). However it might be going too far to applaud Melvin for realizing it was a mistake to let him go in the first place. I'm fairly sure there was no room for him last spring when he was released. It is odd to give something up to get a pitcher that was voluntarily cut just 16 months ago, but then again I'm not sure how much value Rottino has at this point.
  8. Also, Willie Mays hit 20 in '51, 41 in '54, 51 in '55 and 36 in '56. But again, not in consecutive seasons.
  9. Depends on your definition of a full season. Hank Greenberg hit 26 in '34, 36 in '35, 40 in '37, and 58 in '38. But he played in 117 games as a rookie in '33 and only hit 12.
  10. He is funny and good at exaggerating batting stances that are already odd or unique like Weeks, Counsell, and even Fielder with his big swing. But he can get a bit boring if you want him to go beyond that.
  11. 17-year-old Venezuelan SS Wilmer Flores (#47 Baseball America) and 18-year-old Dominican 3B Jefry Marte are a couple of the Mets' better prospects playing for Savannah. Your best bet for Rome might be 19-year-old Panamanian Randall Delgado, scheduled to pitch on Saturday. Also, former Brewer farmhand IF Ryan Barba plays for Rome.
  12. Chad Paronto DFA by the Astros and assigned to AAA Round Rock. Adam Pettyjohn signed by the Mets and assigned to AAA Buffalo. Brian Shouse off the DL and back on the 25-man Rays roster. Gary Sheffield put on the DL of the Mets. Julian Tavarez released by the Nationals. Joe Thatcher called up (again) by the Padres.

  14. Villanueva may (or may not) be the better pitcher, but that's not the issue that makes this so confusing. Macha just got done telling us why Suppan was left in for the disastrous 6th inning last night- "We need to get more innings out of our starters. You can't be going out to the bullpen for four innings every night." Then the next night we start a relief pitcher who will have a pitch limit of about 60. That just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
  15. This is a big week in my opinion. It's going to be hard to think highly of their chances if they go 3-4 against the Nationals and Padres. However, a 5-2 week and maybe I'll believe we can stay in the race.
  16. Actually it sounds a lot like a football name if you are a Packer fan from the 60s.
  17. That was fun. Don't usually pay that much attention to the derby.
  18. Great stuff from Fielder! The Brewer vs the former Brewer...
  19. Claudio Vargas has been activated from the Dodgers' DL and has pitched a couple innings out of the bullpen. Henry Blanco is now on the Padres' DL. Chris Coste was added to the Astros' roster after being claimed off waivers from the Phillies. Dana Eveland sent back to AAA Sacramento after his DFA.

  21. With a one run lead, 2 batters can do more than plenty of damage. They can and did but if you're going to assume the worst case scenario no move is good. Coffey wasn't a good option and there was a pretty persuasive showing above that DeFilice wasn't a measurably better option either so I'm still OK with it. I guess I'm still baffled that it wasn't DiFelice. There were 2 RH hitters due up. He has pitched one whole inning in the past week. Is he so much only a RH option, that he can't come in even when there's the threat of a LH hitter to pinch-hit? I guess if he was being saved for Pujols, after Stetter came in for the LH, I could understand. But it was Coffey, so why didn't it start out Coffey. As you can see, I'm a bit confused. Usually in a one-run game in the 9th, the best pitcher not named Hoffman would be your answer. And DiFelice, Stetter, and Coffey are all better than Villanueva right now.

  23. I know I'm late in posting this, but I could have thought of 2 or 3 better options in that situation than Villaneuva. Even knowing Coffey threw 2 innings yesterday.
  24. I was at a Red Sox-Twins game in the Metrodome a few years back when David Ortiz absolutely crushed a ball to right-center. I don't know if there's been a HR hit there to the upper deck curtains in right-center field, but this one was headed there when it hit a speaker and dropped into center field for a single. The video doesn't really show how far he hit it though. News story here.
