  1. Nelson Cruz just nailed a 3-run HR with 2 outs in the top of the 13th.
  2. We could have used Turnbow in that game, again. Why do we continue to try and win a close game without using our best relief pitcher?
  3. "The only thing going to score Hall is an extra base hit, and with 2 outs, he can go on contact ANYWAYS, and will likely score from first without the hit and run." I know it opens a hole for Miller to hit through, but like you said, we really need a gapper in that situation. Just getting him to 3rd does us no good.
  4. Although the hit-and-run worked, I guess I'm not convinced that it's a great place to use it- with 2 outs and the pitcher on deck.
  5. Helling vs Astros (AB,/BA/OPS): Ausmus 24/.208/.825 Bagwell 19/.263/.769 Berkman 13/.333/.989 Biggio 21/.190/.608 Burke 4/.000/.000 Ensberg 1/.000/.000 Everett 4/.250/.500 Lamb 3/.000/.250 Lane 3/.000/.250 Oswalt 2/1.000/2.000 Scott 1/.000/.000 Taveras 4/.000/.200 Vizcaino 18/.278/.760 Brewers vs Oswalt (AB,/BA/OPS): Branyan 5/.000/.286 Cirillo 11/.182/.364 Clark 18/.167/.377 Fielder 2/.000/.333 Hall 20/.400/.900 Hardy 2/.500/1.000 Helling 3/.000/.000 Helms 13/.231/.949 Jenkins 31/.290/.888 Lee 9/.111/.311 Miller 4/.250/.900 Overbay 19/.105/.211 Weeks 3/.667/2.333
  6. Hall's 5-hit game marks the 5th time the Brewers have done that this year- Jenkins has 2, Lee, and Overbay also. It's the 30th time in Brewer history a player has at least 5 hits in a game. If you want a list, see the last post of the archived game thread from 9/5.
  7. The game could be even more of a blowout. The Brewers have left 11 men on base, including the bases loaded 3 times. But I'm not complaining.
  8. "Tomo Going 9? Bullpen ready for Houston!" He's already over 100 pitches. I'm surprised he's out there for the 7th.
  9. "Must be the uniforms, or the fact that TB's gm sang the national anthem at the BOB this afternoon." I'm sure you mean that TB's gm's daughter sang the national anthem.
  10. They are 7-14 with 3 walks with RISP so far today. And 2 of those outs were run-scoring grounders. They are 5-9 with 3 walks with 2 outs.
  11. What is up with Brandon Lyon? 2005, before DL: 1.96 ERA, 1.31 WHIP 2005, after DL: 16.00 ERA, 3.11 WHIP His ERA for the year just hit 6.59
  12. Cool, the Brewers lineup corresponds with my Brewers vs Estes list. See Jenkins, Cirillo and Miller/Moeller...
  13. Brewers vs Estes (AB/AVG/OPS): Branyan 4/.250/.500 Cirillo 17/.412/1.012 Clark 14/.143/.508 Hall 7/.286/.571 Helms 11/.091/.322 Jenkins 22/.182/.390 Lee 1/.000/.000 Miller 8/.250/.583 Moeller 7/.286/1.159 Overbay 6/.500/1.429 Diamondbacks vs Ohka (AB/AVG/OPS): Cintron 4/.000/.000 Clark 6/.333/.833 Clayton 13/.154/.368 Counsell 14/.143/.508 Glaus 5/.400/1.667 Gonzalez 16/.375/1.036 Green 12/.333/.801 McCracken 7/.286/1.000 Snyder 3/.000/.000 Stinnett 1/1.000/2.000 Tracy 6/.167/.452
  14. Rubber game of the 3-game series as the Brewers try to get back to even in the win/loss columns. Milwaukee (72-73) is 20 games back in the NL Central, 5.5 back in the NL wild card race. Arizona (66-80) is 6.5 back in the NL West, 12 games back in the NL wild card. Milwaukee is 7-5 so far in September, while Arizona is 5-6. Arizona is playing worse at home than on the road with a record of 30-41 at the BOB this season. Milwaukee is 33-41 on the road. The Brewers have a winning record against the NL West at 16-15, while the Diamondbacks are 17-21 against the NL Central. Interestingly, both teams have winning records in day games: Milwaukee 28-23, Arizona 21-17. Yahoo game preview CBS Sportsline game preview ESPN game preview Ohka is 1-1, 3.11 ERA, 1.35 WHIP in 6 starts vs. Arizona. Estes is 5-5, 5.35 ERA, 1.64 WHIP in 13 starts vs. the Brewers. Ohka is 3-1, 4.86 ERA, 1.43 WHIP in his last 5 starts. Estes is 2-3, 4.68 ERA, 1.48 WHIP is his last 5 starts, but only has one start (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) since going on the DL July 6 with a stress fracture in his ankle.
  15. I don't want to cause any problems, but when I saw the Branyan thread locked, personal opinions of 3TO was the first thing I thought of as well. I know that I can't read any minds or judge anyone's motives, but I can see where this argument is coming from.
  16. See this thread in the major league forum for a discussion of former Brewers called up with the September roster expansions.
  17. By my count, this is the 20th time the Brewers have hit 5 HRs in a game. They have hit 6 HRs twice (4/14/79 Hisle, Cooper 2, Molitor, Thomas, Oglivie; 9/25/01 Burnitz 3, Sexson 3) and 7 HRs once (4/29/80 Oglivie 2, Bando 2, Hisle, Molitor, Lezcano).
  18. It's the 3rd 5-hit game of Jenkins' career, and his 2nd this season (also 8/4). The Brewers also have 5-hit games this year from Overbay (5/1) and Lee (6/5). In case anyone is wondering the 5 hits in a game is not a Brewer record. John Briggs (1973) and Kevin Reimer (1993) have 6 hits in a game. The Brewers have had 23 previous 5-hit games before this year: George Scott (1975), Von Joshua (1977). Don Money (1978), Charlie Moore (1980), Cecil Cooper (1981), Robin Yount (1982), Paul Molitor thrice (1983, 1989, 1991), Randy Ready (1985), Mike Felder (1987), Darryl Hamilton (1991), Scott Fletcher (1992), Kevin Seitzer (1992), Fernando Vina twice (1996, 1998), Jeff Cirillo thrice (1998, 1999, 1999), Mark Loretta twice (1999, 2000), Tyler Houston (2001), and Jenkins (2003).
  19. Not meaning to second guess necessarily, but thinking about it, I sure would have been tempted to PH for Hardy. We've got a good hitter in Hall, and the league's best PH on the bench.
  20. "my gosh how many hrs has piazza hit against the brewers in his career" Coming in to the game, Piazza has 16 HRs in 158 AB in his career against the Brewers, with an OPS of 1.160.
  21. Brewers' career stats vs Benson: (AB/AVG/OPS) Branyan 6/.500/2.238 Durrington 1/.000/.000 Helms 10/.100/.200 Jenkins 20/.400/1.088 Lee 3/.333/1.000 Miller 18/.278/.800 Moeller 3/.000/.000 Overbay 5/.600/1.667 Benson vs Brewers, career: 11 starts, 4-4, 3.93 ERA, 1.33 WHIP Mets' career stats vs Davis: (AB/AVG/OPS) Beltran 26/.269/.657 Cairo 2/.500/1.000 Cameron 29/.414 /1.313 Floyd 5/.000/.167 Matsui 5/.200 /.533 Mientkiewicz 5/.000/.286 Offerman 3 /.333/.933 Piazza 8/.625/2.042 Reyes 6/.000 /.143 Williams 3/.333/.667 Woodward 1/1.000/2.000 Wright 5/.000/.000 Davis vs Mets, career: 3 starts, 1-1, 5.30 ERA, 1.23 WHIP
  22. "In progress: Missoula (Diamondbacks) 3, Helena 0, bottom of the 2nd... -- so far, three unearned runs are making that task tough..." Isn't that nice, they're taking lessons from the big league Brewers...
  23. July 24, 2005 - SportsTicker "Former major leaguer Steve Sparks ended his 18 1/2-year pitching career when he retired last week as a member of the Class AAA Sacramento River Cats. The knuckleballer, who was drafted by Milwaukee in the fifth round in 1987, was 7-5 with a 5.92 ERA in 15 games split between Portland and the River Cats. Sparks finished his career with a 59-76 mark and a 4.88 ERA in 270 games split between Milwaukee, Anaheim, Detroit, Oakland and Arizona."
  24. "Who would have thought we would win a game against the cards when we had 4 errors, hit into 4 double plays, and had Pujols go 3 for 4?" Or hit into 5 DPs?
  25. "yet we have a coco" Crisp's real first name is Covelli. The point is the same, though.
