  1. The $14.95 for MLB Gameday Audio is well-worth the money. Any game, any time, any internet connection, no blackouts.
  2. The Yankees' Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, and Jorge Posada are the first trio of teammates to play together for 16 seasons, breaking the record of 15 set by Yount, Molitor, and Gantner from 1978-1992. I just thought that was interesting.
  3. I'd go with Higuera, Sheets, Gallardo, Haas and Slaton, barely leaving out Wegman, Bosio, Eldred and Sorensen.
  4. For outfielders, it looks like there needs to be another step added to the chart- have they played CF? I don't understand why there wouldn't be a separate award for each OF spot.
  5. Yes, although it doesn't show up on baseball-reference.com, I am fairly sure that they signed him at one point and/or had him in spring training. Edit: found the transaction recorded on the mlb.com archives from 3/1/03: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/transactions/?c_id=mil&year=2003&month=3 Apparently he decided to retire rather than play in the minors at that point- I can't find any other transactions.
  6. I only count 6 teams. Still a long way to go to match Mike Morgan and Ron Villone. And there's a decent chance Villone sets a new record with a 13th team in 2010.
  7. DiFelice has now given up more runs in August than he did in the season's first 4 months.
  8. I like the lineup tab too. Counsell is listed as both the #1 and #2 batter, because he has more PA in both spots than anyone else. Cameron is listed both #5 and #6. Iribarren has the 2nd most PA in the cleanup spot!? (One) There have been 8 different RF this season.
  9. Hall ends his Brewer career 14th in franchise games played, 17th in plate appearances, 17th in runs, 18th in hits, 10th in doubles, 16th in HR, and 7th in strikeouts.
  10. Can we at least finish the season before starting off-season topics? I know to some extent the season is over, and I like guessing ahead as much as anyone, but this is 3 months in advance.
  11. RJ Swindle claimed off waivers by Cleveland and optioned to AAA Columbus. Joe Dillon outrighted to AAA Durham after his DFA by the Rays. Eliezer Alfonzo optioned to AAA Portland by the Padres. Jorge Julio released by the Rays. He accumulated a 5.96 in 22 innings with AAA Durham. Derrick Ellison has been purchased by the Mets after a short stay with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League. Jeremy Lewis signed with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League.

  13. Hall was the longest-tenured Brewer, having been on the 40-man roster since November 2001 and debuting with the team September 2002. We've gone through a few of them in the past couple years from Jenkins to Sheets to Hall. If you care to know who was added at the same time as Hall, here's the full transaction: 11/20/01 Added IF Bill Hall, OF Jeff Deardorff, OF Cristian Guerrero, RHP J.M. Gold, RHP Brian Mallette and LHP Luis Martinez to the 40-man roster Now I would call the longest-tenured Brewer is Rickie Weeks, going by his addition to the 40-man upon being signed in August 2003 and also his Brewer debut in September 2003. However, several have been with the organization longer than Weeks, including Fielder, Hart, Hardy, Parra, Iribarren, Escobar, Dillard, Stetter, Heether, Corporan, and Jones. If you go by organization time, Hardy and Jones were both drafted and signed in 2001.
  14. From Brewerfan.net FAQ: How does "optioning" work? Generally, after 3 pro seasons, a player must be protected on a club's 40-man roster or he becomes eligible for the Rule 5 draft. Once a player is added to a club's 40-man roster, the club then 3 available option years during which they can place him on "optional assignment" to a minor league club. A player can be sent up and down as many times as the club so chooses within those three seasons. Once a player is "out of options", he must clear "waivers" in order to be sent down again. If a player is not sent to the minors during a year, an option is not used. If a player is on the 40-man roster in spring training but optioned to the minors before the season is underway, an option is used. If an assignment in the minors lasts 20 days, an option is not used. An outright assignment takes the player off of the 40-man roster and is used when the player is out of options and has cleared waivers.
  15. Jon Huizinga was traded between independent league teams twice in one week. From Calgary of the Golden League to Winnipeg of the Northern League, to Schaumberg of the Northern League. Steve Moss has been signed by Long Beach of the Golden League.

  17. Joe Dillon DFA by the Rays. RJ Swindle DFA by the Rays before appearing in any games. RA Dickey optioned to AAA Rochester by the Twins. Chris Woodward claimed off waivers by Red Sox after Mariners DFA. Chad Moeller called up by the Orioles. Saul Rivera recalled by the Nationals. Elmer Dessens, outrighted last week, called up by the Mets.

  22. Joe Martinez is scheduled to start today's game for the Giants, his first major league appearance since getting hit by Cameron's line drive. Glad to see he has recovered and made it back.
  23. Mets DFA Robinson Cancel to make room for Gary Sheffield, off the DL. Rays sign Jeff Bennett, as discussed in the major league forum. Nationals called up Jorge Sosa. Mets will recall Nelson Figueroa for a spot start on Monday.
