  1. I can't agree with that. The WC's could both come from the West. There just ain't enough whipping boys in the Central. Four teams close in talent beating on each other all year! Even the Pirates are liable to play .500 ball. The same scenario is playing out in the AL Central where at 5 games back the Royals are that division's Pirates.
  2. I STILL can't believe this division. I'm old enough to know that repeating as WS champs is rare. I believe in the NL the last to do it was the Big Red Machine. In spite of that I was still convinced the Cubs would do it. Now I'm starting to doubt it. All those young guys batting sub-Mendoza in mid May! Arietta and Hendricks looking human. Maddon sticking with Schwarber at lead off because of cybermetrics! Is it reasonable to scratch the Bucs off for the year? (Polonco went down to injury yesterday) I get the Reds' games and I'm convinced they're legit. But for the long haul? I haven't seen many Brewer games so far but I would be lying if I said I wasn't shocked that you are ahead of the Cubs, and I'm so down on the Cardinal FO and manager that it clouds my natural fan optimism. What's your take at this juncture ?
  3. First series win in St. Louis since 2014. I'll take it! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk Told you.
  4. With Wainwright sucking and position players dropping like flies it may be the tonight.
  5. Interesting. I think another valid issue is the way teams "buck up" to face the champs. Even millionaires don't like to be embarrassed!
  6. I feel that way too (but hope against it) As to the Giants, who I don't much follow: What happened to them? I do know about Bumgarner's motorcycle folly, but little else.
  7. All 5 teams within 2 games of each other? I really expected the Cubs would run away with it again. I expected the Reds minus Bruce and Dat Dude to rule the cellar all year. Good chance that the evident parity of the Central will put the Kybosh on any WC spots. (good news for LA and SF) Another shocker: The Mets are toast.
  8. Damn ricky it was a good pitch. Carp is a worthless POS that had ONE great year and has been coasting since. Can't lay off crap, can't field and can't run bases so he takes it out on the little ump. It's infuriating.
  9. Confident in saying Villar of 2016 (April thru July) made more mistakes per game than 2017 Cardinal team all by himself. http://b3.ifrm.com/5919/67/0/e5027433//e5027433.gif
  10. Has anyone ever seen a major league team run the bases as bad as this Cardinal team? One more pickoff and I'm going to be watching Gilligan reruns. BTW, Reds beating the Cubs in the 8th.
  11. I agree with your superstar stance, but PED's are diminishing the product on a more insidious level: pitching. The number of 100MPH pitchers, the insane number of no-hitters and the lights-out closers these days are changing the game, and not for the better. I'm not sure how you can blame PED's for the lack of offense in today's game when during the time where everyone was doing them offense was at it's height. I think it took pitchers a couple of years to catch up with the hitters. Now they have, and the inherent advantage they have over batters is magnified.

  13. PED's are a bigger deal in baseball than any other sport for a very good reason. First off; baseball was the very 1st team sport of national interest. It's the template for all others. Secondly there's the magic numbers: 714 HRs, 61 HRs, .424 BA, 56 str. gms and 4,256 hits, for example. For decades these numbers were sacrosanct. Some have been eclipsed: Aaron, Maris with more ABs, McGwire and Bonds with steroids. Those numbers and the stories behind them are part of American lore, the backbone of Cooperstown. It hurts baseball purists to see these numbers and stories besmirched. Like boxing and horse racing, the game is slipping away...no longer in the same league with MMA, football and basketball. There are MANY reasons why this is so, but the easiest thing for baseball to do to stop the bleeding is the steroid ban. They can't control anything else.
  14. I guess now Mc Cutchen will have to get back on 'em now that Marte's been caught. BTW youse guys: I get the Reds games and I watched 2 of your games with them last week. You look like an entirely different team. That Thames is all the talk around baseball. I'm pleasantly surprised that the Cubs didn't come out of the shoot like last year. It could turn out to be pretty good race between them, you and the improved Reds. (no, I don't include the Cards...we won't do squat until Matheny is gone, and that ain't happening)
  15. I'm stuck at work, so not for me Thank you game cast. I'm watching on the PC...Wow! Nice throw there! Anyway here's the linkage: http://live.robinwidget.org/streamvideo8/milwaukee-brewers-vs-colorado-rockies-live-stream-174962.html
  16. Lotsa names in your lineup that are new to me. The Cards have been sputtering along with the Bucs and I don't see either one of them beating the Cubs. Good luck in the series, Guys.
  17. 'Only 23' might apply in general to a 23 year old in the big leagues, but with Zach you have to say "He's actually 23, honest." Here's a text from a Cardinals fan I coach with at the beginning of today's game: "This Davies kid must have just hit puberty"
  18. He did this to the Cubs last September when they were clubbing everybody. Shut them out over 6 IP on 2 hits. Was a steal for Gerardo Parra. Hitters think they are facing pitcher from local high school JV team. He appears to be a seasoned pitcher! The kid could be the next Maddux....as if there isn't enough crazy lights out starters around nowadays.
  19. Yup. Gonna be a sloppy mess. On the bright side these late afternoon games play hell for a batter as the shadow between the mound and the plate makes it tough on the hitter. No shadows today. Heads up on the Cards: Pro- late blooming career minor leaguer Hazelbaker looks like a 5 tool player - Piscotty and Carpenter are hitting- the 2 latino starters are going good, but Con: the 3 Gringos have been horrid. Wainwright is awful. This year could be his swan song. More CON: Holliday, Matt Adams and Molina seem lost at the plate and the infield defense have been kicking the ball all over the place, especially Kolton Wong. The Cards just swept the Braves but OMG they are simply futile as a team. I don't remember a Braves team this bad. That's all from me except to say that the Cubs (in spite of the Schwarber loss) sure look like the creme de la creme of the Central. I would be thrilled to get WC spot!
  20. Allow me to answer that: We are screwed!!!! We just barely edged out the Pirates and Cubs last year, 2 games over the Bucs and 3 over the Cubbies. Now the Cubs get our best young defensive OF'er and solid starter in Lackey. We are already challenged by having a totally clueless manager and the self serving GM that hired him. This is the final nail in the Redbird coffin. As you pointed out Holliday and Yadi are shells of their former selves. You can add Jon Jay to that category. The Cubs will win the Central easily this year. I may move to Chicago.
  21. Utterly uninspired. I hate the skinhead look championed by Chris Carpenter and Holliday. Half the team looked like neo nazi's! Of course there's always the guy that goes too far in the other direction like Jason Motte.
