  1. That could happen. Kershaw is overdue to dominate us. BTW, the start time has been moved up 2 hours on Friday. (I think) Here's my post season picks from Monday (my Cards forum site) American League Royals beat A's for WC O's beat Tigers in LCS Angels beat Royals in LCS O's beat Angels for pennant National League Giants beat Pirates for WC Dodgers beat Cards in LCS Nats beat Giants in LCS Nats beat Dodgers for pennant and a Beltway WS World Series: Orioles beat Nationals in 7 What about it Boys?
  2. LOL! Back in those days they used inning count! I believe the Babe pitched 4 times in the years after switching to outfield. (no losses) Jake Rupert wanted him to stay in the rotation AND play OF the other days. Ruth flat out refused.
  3. 1933... Although he gives up 12 hits and 5 earned runs, 38-year old Babe Ruth goes the distance to beat the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, 6-5. The 'Sultan of Swat's' performance on the mound, a ploy to attract fans to a meaningless game, will be his last appearance as a pitcher, a position in which the future Hall of Fame slugger will post a 94-46 career record. http://www.babe-ruth.com/baberuth.jpg
  4. There was a bunch of criticism of Yost after the game. What was that all about?
  5. Just a super ballgame. I was fairly blown away. The Royals' forums were buzzing 'till after 3 AM. It's been a long time for those fans. Great to see. I gave up when it was 7-3, came back accidentally flipping channels. It was the top of the 12th, and the goosebumps began. Team of destiny?
  6. Oh! That's a bold prediction.
  7. You can relax. No team could beat the Dodgers in a 5 game series with Kershaw going twice and a resurgent Matt Kemp bashing along with Gonzales and HRam, Gordon running wild and Puig nailing guys at the plate from the track. But I don't think LA get's past the Nats. (or SF) Maybe not even the Pirates, who I will root for when the Cards are out of it. What if the Pirates and Royals meet in the WS? That would freak out MLB and all the pundits! TV ratings would an all time low.
  8. Just for fun American League Royals beat A's for WC O's beat Tigers in LCS Angels beat Royals in LCS O's beat Angels for pennant National League Giants beat Pirates for WC Dodgers beat Cards in LCS Nats beat Giants in LCS Nats beat Dodgers for pennant and a Beltway WS World Series: Orioles beat Nationals in 7 What's your pick?
  9. I think you're rooting right. I'm not rooting for it, but that's my pick too. That's right...the Dodgers will beat the Cards and then lose to the Nats for the pennant.
  10. 2001 Tuffy Rhodes hits his 55th homer to tie Sadaharu Oh's Japanese League single season home run record, set in 1964. For the rest of the season (5 games) opposing pitchers intentionally walked Rhodes to prevent him from breaking Sadahara Oh's record. http://jto.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/sb20091213wga.jpg A couple of years later Japan started testing for steroids and several Americans were busted. To date I only know of one native player suspended, and that was for detection of a masking agent. PED's aren't tolerated there, not even for weight lifters.
  11. The Braves sacked their GM, Frank Wren. Didn't waste much time!
  12. Are you serious? Remember that Reds lineup yesterday vs. the Cubs? No Bruce, Frazier, BP, Morasco et al. They sat all the regulars to rest 'em up for TONIGHT. Look at today's vs the Cardinals CFBilly Hamilton (S) 1BBrayan Pena (S) 3BTodd Frazier ® CDevin Mesoraco ® 2BB. Phillips ® RFJay Bruce (L) LFRyan Ludwick ® SSZack Cozart ® That's the best they could possibly field. That's for the Pirates and Brewers benefit. That's integrity. It would be advantageous for them to lose out for a better draft position, but they're better than that. That anyone can't understand that amazes me.
  13. Jericho, it behooves EVERY team play their best vs. playoff contending teams. Even the Angels.
  14. So do you think the Reds will sit all the regulars again when they play the Cards tonight? I think not. Though out of it, they will give it their best shot, and that helps the Pirates and the Brewers. You don't sit players just because your regular season is over, one way or the other. Without Pujols and Trout the Angels only mustered 5 hits with 1 run and 15 men LOB and lost. They just GAVE Seattle a win to close in on the A's. That's just wrong. BTW, you can't compare the effort expended and need for recovery time in basketball and football with the pastoral game that is baseball.
  15. 1939 September call-up Elmer Gedeon collects all three of his major league hits of his five-game career in the Senators' 10–9 victory over the Indians at Griffith Stadium. The Washington starting center fielder will be the first major leaguer to be killed in World War II when his plane is shot over France in 1944. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cqiaIdAMc5k/TAPALDhFoxI/AAAAAAAACNQ/h_95_smywA8/s1600/ElmerGedeon.jpg It was his 13th mission. Gedeon was not as lucky as Ted Williams, but who was?
  16. If by 'great', you actually mean like watching two drunken hobos trying to hit an imaginary piñata, then yes, I agree. LOL!!! true...it hasn't been all that pretty.
  17. Win or lose Boys, you have to admit that this has been a great, nail biting series. The toughest contested series I've seen all year.
  18. Spoiler alert! After sweeping the Braves, the Rangers just swept the A's. And in a related story, it was reported by MLB TV just now that Pujols and Trout will be benched tonight vs. Felix Hernandez and the Mariners. This is preposterous by the Angels! The Mariners are right behind the A's for the last WC spot. Where's the integrity?
  19. I hadn't thought about it, but if an AL team is to win it all I'd vote for the O's as well. But I've never rooted for an AL team to win the World Series and I ain't starting now. The NL winning it is sort of a booby prize for me.
  20. Cincinnati Reds Kris Negron, SS Ramon Santiago, 3B Yorman Rodriguez, CF Ryan Ludwick, LF Donald Lutz, RF Jack Hannahan, 1B Jake Elmore, 2B Tucker Barnhart, C That's the lineup that Price ran out there yesterday to face the Cubs. No Bruce, Hamilton, Morasco or Phillips. (Frazier and Votto laid up I think) Just a complete tank job. I'm not familiar enough with the Red Sox, so I wonder if they're doing the same thing vs. the Pirates? Those lop-sided scores indicate YES.
  21. Very odd this year is the strong possibility of a freeway WS being played by the LA teams, the DC area teams with a very outside chance of Missouri. But I think the media will be disappointed: It will most likely be O's vs. Dodgers. It's hard to dismiss the Nats and Angels, but that's how I see it. The Tigers? I just don't see it, ditto (my) Cards and your Brewers. Both teams have been too up and down this year. The Pirates are hot as hell, but can they continue this winning? It's a good time to get hot, to be sure. If we're eliminated, it looks right now that they're the best team to represent the Central. But get past the Kershaw Dodgers and a resurgent Matt Kemp?
  22. The Rockies dropped 15 on the Dodgers (and counting) AZ and Atl. tied in the 6th
  23. McShane: those stats are mind boggling.
  24. Well, surely only hitters were using, & not pitchers, right? I guess that just goes to show that good PED pitching beats good PED hitting.
  25. Yep. The Pirates are 8-2 last 10 while Atlanta has dropped 5 straight. The Giants were doing fine until they ran into the Dodgers. Another loss tonight by the Cardinals and Giants will make this thing very interesting. As to the Sox beating the Bucs....it could happen.
