  1. It's no surprise that O is down. Guys that were hitting FIFTY HRs 5 years back are now hitting 25-30 and are on and off the DL. A serious PED program did that. They got their millions and don't want to join Sosa, McGuire and Bonds in the public eye. Without checking, I would guess that the present numbers correspond pretty close to the pre-Canseco '90s.
  2. You said a mouthful! I would say that going at least 4-2 is an absolute must. Who knows? Lohse and Gallardo could surprise everyone.
  3. It is. Just goes to show that penalties are relative, like a judge that rules by his heart and not the book. If it was a playoff contending team it would have been 2 or 3 games. But it was the Phillies.
  4. Different can of worms Pat...Pap was at home. To me, it's their business. Joe West over-stepped his bounds. It should have been the Philly manager to handle that situation.
  5. It's going to be Wainwright, Lynn and Shelby Miller. I don't know in what order. Miller has been the most effective of the three lately, but none of them have been shelled for a while. FYI the two acquisitions, Lackey and Masterson have been sent to the pen. Lackey is in Matheny's doghouse for getting himself tossed in that game last week for arguing with the ump in the third inning of the game.
  6. Personally, I thought it was funny, but I think you're missing the big picture, Patrick.
  7. The Braves were swept by perhaps the worst team in baseball, the Rangers. I wonder what the mindset of that team is right now? The Phils' John Papelbon got tosses by Joe West after crotch grabbing the crowd as they booed their brains out at him. What are Umps now...morality police? It's Philidelphia, for Crissakes! In case you missed it: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24709768/jonathan-papelbon-ejected-after-obscene-gesture-toward-philly-fans
  8. Yeah....two times in 32 years.lol sounds pretty good to me..... I feel ya' Bro.
  9. Take it from a guy that goes through this anguish several times every year....Yes. haha yeah but then oftentimes you are rewarded by your team winning the World Series. Yeah....two times in 32 years.
  10. Take it from a guy that goes through this anguish several times every year....Yes.
  11. I'm glad to see you guys have a good game thread going tonight, AND a good ballgame. The Cubs put up a fight but lost to the Bucs, and the Cards beat the Rocks, but Texas has a slim lead over Atlanta. You guys really need this one. I'm following on Gameday...a tough way to follow.
  12. Corcino is an odd choice for this game. Been in the Reds system for 6 years, just this year made it to AAA and his numbers are poor. But I know what you guys will be thinking: he'll throw the game of his life tonight. On further investigation, the Kid has stuff, but he's a wild man. Walks a ton, and hits a lotta batters, 26 so far this year! A little plate discipline is in order tonight Boys.
  13. richoholicninja"] Too soon. Too soon for what, Logan? I'm guessing he thinks you made a pun there. I didn't.
  14. Whats interesting is he was suspended for taking Adderall, but he supposedly had an exemption for it last year but not this year. Apparently he forgot to renew the thing. With the way he's performing this year, that 25 game ban seems ludicrous. There were an alarming 14 HBP yesterday, Trout with 2 of them.
  15. Too soon. Too soon for what, Logan?
  16. Why is Latos a scumbag? Just curious. RR better keep a sharp eye on Lohse. The man is pitching injured.
  17. @CraigMinervini #Giancarlo in good spirits, saying he was uplifted by his mates. Dental work on 3 teeth in Miami. Fractures will heal, no surgery expected. That was a tough break last night for the guy, and Miami.
  18. 1962...One game behind the front running Dodgers, the Giants lose Willie Mays as the ‘Say Hey Kid’ is hospitalized for nervous exhaustion. The team by-the-bay will drop six games in a row but will recover along with their All-star center fielder in time to beat Los Angeles in a playoff to win the National league pennant. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h1srwgVeyLM/T56w2XJm8iI/AAAAAAAAaAk/NZ8B32k9X_0/s1600/willie+mays+(13).jpg "Nervous exhaustion"? What exactly is that? Years later Mays admitted that he commonly used the amphetamines known as "greenies", like everybody else in those days, he said.
  19. And he pitched a 3 hit gem for the win. Lynn matched him, but in the late innings Jon Jay made what would prove to be the game losing error in the 1-0 loss. Matheny refuses to move him permanently to a corner OF spot where he would be less of a detriment. Being swept by a team they own has the Cardinals scrambling for a solution, but there is none. Masterson and Lackey are a resounding FAIL. Waino is stumbling. Wacha's not near 100% yet. Lynn and a surprising Shelby Miller are the only starters keeping the team afloat. (the pen is still good) There's no reason for anybody to think they will play anything other than .500 ball the rest of the way. It's on the Pirates and Brewers to do better.
  20. After their impressive resurgence the Cubs have lost six straight. The Reds swept the Cards, a team they play badly as a rule. You guys put 2 wins together at last, and knocked Miami out of any chance to grab a wild. The Pirates are on a nice run but can it continue? Atlanta is playing '500 ball. They're in your rear view mirror for now. There are 17 teams that would love to be in the Brewers' shoes right now.
  21. Josh Harrison sat out yesterday with an ankle injury. That could spell the end of the Pirates' run. On defense, on the bases and at the plate he's the MVP of that team. Limited use of that ankle would seriously effect his performance. The Pirates haven't said much about it.
  22. On this sad day in 1957, before their departure to play on the West Coast for next season, the Dodgers and Giants face one another for the final time in New York. The Jints beat the Bums at the Polo Grounds, 3-2, to finish the intense 68-year old storied rivalry with a 656-606 advantage over Brooklyn in the battle between the boroughs. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YHcJT_0xlHA/T4C5of-JrhI/AAAAAAAAAVY/y03v0atjg_g/s400/Duke%2BSnider_Willie%2BMays.jpg
  23. 1996 With 129 at-bats and a mediocre .254 batting average at the start of his major league career, Scott Rolen misses the remainder of the season when his arm is broken by a pitch thrown by Cubs right-hander Steve Trachsel. The hit-by-pitch will prove to be a blessing in disguise when the Phillies third baseman, technically still a rookie due to one less at-bat last season, will have an outstanding year next season winning the National League Rookie of the Year award. http://lubbockonline.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/superphoto/11478048.jpg
  24. The Phils are quietly moving up in the standings, poised to overtake the Reds and Miami. And the Giants, who were roughed up by the Rockies have re-surged, (8-2 last 10) and may send the .500 playing Dodgers back to the WC race. The Nats, with their 7 game lead in the East appear to be the only team to have their division locked up. It's shaping up to be an absolute dogfight for the other 6 teams. Atlanta stands to benefit most from the schedule, next facing Miami, the Nats (who they traditionally own) and Texas.
