  1. It IS a bit more encouraging now. We're better than the Braves and Nats (who are losing to the Cubs as I type) but I don't believe there's even a China-man's chance we send THREE again. SF will feast on the Rockies and stay in it all the way I think. SF Giants. 47 38 - Natinals... 46 38 - St. Louis.. 46 40 1 Pittsburgh 44 41 2½ Cincinnati 43 41 3 Miami...... 41 44 5½ San Diego 38 47 8½ CUBS*.... 37 46 8½ N.Y. Mets. 37 48 9½ *Looks like they will pass SD and the Fish soon.
  2. Rotation update: No word on Lynn's blister. Kelly still a month away. Waino's fastball is gone, but he made it by on guile in his last start. Wacha won't return for 6 or more weeks. Shelby Miller continues to get pounded. Oscar Tavares was recalled and started last night in CF. (one sharp hit) The Cards are desperate for more offense.
  3. About time there's some inter-division contender action! Huge series for the Reds. I see a down and dirty dogfight this weekend.
  4. 2001... The Brewers' new home, Miller Park, continues to be jinxed as a parachutist breaks his ankle when he misses the opening in the retractable roof and lands on a beam several hundred feet off the ground. Another member of the Sky Knights Sports Parachute Club missed the stadium completely. And 10 years later 2011.... Shaun Marcum becomes the first Brewer pitcher to hit a grand slam for the franchise since 1969 when Fred Talbot accomplished the feat in the inaugural season of the Seattle Pilots, a year before the team moved to Milwaukee. The 29 year-old right-hander's first career round-tripper isn't enough to get a victory when he earns a no-decision in the team's 8-6 loss to Arizona. Enjoy the short video:
  5. Seems odd to discuss a game on now on yesterday's game thread, but if that's how you do it.....Cards @ Giants this afternoon on MLB TV.
  6. Due to the current situation in the National League it is inevitable that the Brewers are going to share much more attention from the media and baseball world in general. I know that many of you are skeptical but things have changed since this thread started. The media loved that Lucroy "promotional" spot. He has been brought to the attention of the all powerful media and you can bet it will be shown the second Matheny lifts Yadi for Luc in the ASG with an international audience watching. The collapse of the Cardinals will leave a gaping void in NL coverage, and the team that usurps them will get it. The Reds aren't a great story. The Pirates are OK, but the Brewers could be gold. Why? Many reasons. The very history of the Brewers is fascinating with names like Bill Veeck, Harvey Kuenn, Casey Stengel, Bud Selig and the St. Louis Browns associated with it. It's a story and it will be told. Best case scenario I guess would be if the Brewers met another media darling in the WS. The Yankees or Angels. Toronto would not be good!
  7. I think the Cards can be officially removed from consideration for post season play. Lance Lynn has a blister on a finger on his pitching hand, and knowing Matheny and the witch doctors he will be sent back out before the skin heals and re-toughens. That leaves poor #5 Shelby Miller as the only completely healthy starter, and HE has been awful. I look for he and Allen Craig to be part of deal made before the deadline. The Cards' GM is under heavy fire and will surely do it sooner rather than later, but it's already too late. So that's one down and two to go for you guys. Reds and Pirates, both on the move up. It's going to be some kind of finish come September.
  8. Even when your game is over? Or near over? Pretty much, yeah. You can probably even create a thread in that forum for "other games" if you wanted. Anyway I'm scared about the Dodgers series (whenever that is). Thanks for the info. And yes, they are dangerous.
  9. Even when your game is over? Or near over?
  10. LA destroying Cards again. I'm OUT!
  11. Homer Bailey has a no-no thru 6
  12. The Dodgers have been making the Cards look like a AAA team in this series...up 2-0 in this series.
  13. Reds up by a run in the 6th over Giants
  14. MLB TV will air either the Cards or Reds game this afternoon. I'll be around to kibbitz.
  15. 1913.... Only one baseball is used during the Reds' 9-6 win over the Cubs at Redland Field. There are no home runs or foul balls which land in the stands during the contest. It's hard to validate a 101 year old "fact" viewed only by the Redland faithful, but I guess it's possible. It was after all, the bunt happy dead ball era. 1937.... In a 10-2 loss to Brooklyn, Chicago's first baseman Ripper Collins does not make a putout or assist during the nine-inning game. In other words, he could have sat Indian style on the bag for the entire game. This story would be more believable if the Cubs pitcher struck out 14 or 15 guys, but history makes no note of anything of that nature happening. Even stranger is that it was the 2nd time Collins had such a game. (Two years earlier) http://d3k2oh6evki4b7.cloudfront.net/images-006/headshots/9/95982dfa_davis.jpg 1975.... During a twin bill with the Padres, the Reds establish a major league record by playing 14 consecutive games without an error, a streak which will be extended to 15. The previous mark of 12 straight games was established by the Tigers in 1963. That big Red Machine was more than just bats.
  16. I couldn't agree more. I can't figure out what's holding them back. Reds fans criticize Walt Jockety for not going out and getting top dollar free agents. They don't seem to understand the man has a set budget. The guy was not cheap filling up the holes on the Cards' roster when he was the GM in St. Louis. But they made a move I liked the other day batting Votto 2nd behind Billy Hamilton. You HAVE to have a good and selective batsman up there when he's on base. Hamilton may put them over the top. (but when?)
  17. Wrong Pugger. Cards fans want Molina benched for not hitting .400 this year. He's starting to show the wear and his best years are behind him. Lucroy is by far the best Catcher this year. (sorry Posie) I just tuned in to MLB to see Luc gap that one.
  18. I predict that the 1st team to overtake the Brewers will have a knock-off video at the ready. Well, maybe not Cincy. Seems no matter how bad the Bengals play the Reds still get no attention in that town.
  19. 1976....Mark 'the Bird' Fidrych amuses a “Monday Night Baseball” national television audience, talking to the baseball as he one-hits the Yankees, 5-1 in under two hours. The unsung Tigers rookie, who made the team on the final cut of spring training, will finish the season with a 19-9 record. http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/m2OwKZk07Ac/hqdefault.jpg
  20. Braun would make a great leadoff hitter I had this discussion with a buddy a few days ago, and at first I thought he was crazy, but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made... I does make sense. Even rock headed Matheny finally moved Matt Holiday from #3 to #2. Perhaps the 1 or 2 spot would be better for Braun as well. He certainly needs to shorten his stroke and be more selective, judging by what I saw in the game day before yesterday.
  21. He did that the other day. Has the base stolen easy. GAME OVER. Just out-managed again.
  22. I have another word in mind. 1st hit for the game by Adams......pinch running for him is stupid.
