  1. Good question. I think they are careful with him for sure. Well, Cubs pitching to Carpenter as he dbls and scores on a single
  2. 1. Matt Carpenter (L) 1B 2. Jose Martinez ® RF 3. Paul DeJong ® SS 4. Tyler O'Neill ® LF 5. Patrick Wisdom ® 3B 6. Harrison Bader ® CF 7. Yairo Munoz ® 2B 8. Francisco Pena ® C 9. Jack Flaherty ® P Ozuna can't throw, Yadi is wasted and Wong can't run, so this is actually a decent lineup. Of the 4 team games that matter I think this one is the most winnable. I really hope we win and LA has to fly into Chicago.
  3. They are nausiating nightly. I mute mute the TV between pitches for the entire game.
  4. We are one of the copycat teams doing it... https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-gradual-spread-of-the-opener/ Yes, of course, but it's a different thing to be doing it in THIS situation!
  5. I'm curious to hear what the pundits have to say about this bullpen start. If it works to a tee CC and company will be lauded and there will surely be copycat teams doing it. If not he'll be lambasted for over manuevering, over thinking, panicking, sending the wrong signal to his players or gawd knows what else. Either way the announcers will surely complain about the many game delays. But this does add a dimension of interest to a game that is already HUGE....I'm gonna need more beer.
  6. You're right. Carp has been totally useless since late August. He's been getting struck out looking so much it makes you want to puke. DeJong, Molina and Ozuna have been doing most of the heavy lifting of late. This series is gonna be tough to watch, but I have a good supply of Pepto handy.
  7. The Dodgers are pounding the crap out of the Cardinals' rookie staff (predictably) and I personally have given up on the season. Good luck to you guys in the post. I'll be rooting for you.
  8. Can someone explain what we should take from the run differential? We have so so offense and very good pitching? We've won a lot of close games and thus have some luck factoring in? I don't make much of the run diff unless it's like over 100. So many factors to take in. It was a forgone conclusion that the Cubs would face the Dodgers in the NLCS and the winner would lose to the Yanks or Stros in the WS. While still possible I, for one, am happy just to still be in the hunt. I never thought the Cards OR Brewers had much of a chance. Watched the highlights last night and Hader looks like the reincarnation of the "Freak", only taller. That guy is gonna be a big factor in your post season.
  9. Here's how it looked for the contenders on August 20th Chicago - 71-52 Atlanta ---69-55 Brewers --69-56 Arizona -- 69-56 Cardinals -69-57 Rockies -- 68-56 Phillies ---68-56 Dodgers --67-59 This was an incredible log jam between the Braves#2 and the Phils/Rockies #7 Now 10 days later Chicago - 79-55 Cardinals-76-59 Brewers - 76-60 Atlanta -- 74-60 Dodgers--73-62 Arizona --74-61 Phillies ---72-62 Rockies --72-62 No significant nose dive for any team, but the 3 Central contenders continue to pound the NL. I think it's safe to say that the Phils and Rocks won't make it through this gauntlet.
  10. He's already injured, but how bad is not known...risky.
  11. The Cards will probably jump out of their shoes to get him. (Infielders Jerko and Wong on DL)
  12. Last series of the season with the Tigers? What were the schedule makers thinking? Well, guys it's going to be a really interesting September. I wouldn't be surprised if the top seed and both WC's come from the Central again. I don't envy your Sept. schedule; lots of Central games and the Pirates and Reds aren't lame ducks within the division. On the West: those 3 teams are bound to cancel each other out (and they know it) East: I just can't see Atl/Philly hanging with us...maybe next season.
  13. This probably isn't random news when the deal goes through. Goodbye competitive balance (whatever was left of it) in the NL Central. This is dreadful news. They will truly be the Yanks/Sox of the NL, leaving even LA in the dust.
  14. But if I read it right, the Nats could (and will) pull back on the claimant. Right? They're "revocable" waivers. This routinely happens during the post-trade deadline period. If a player clears waivers, the team is free to trade them. If another team puts in a claim on the player, the waiving team must work out a trade with the claiming team, rescind the waiver (pulling the player back onto the team), or let the player go without compensation (which almost never happens). Claiming a player before they could go to a competing team with a better record - and thus a lower waiver priority - is a common method to "block" a waiver trade during this time period. A high number of players get put on waivers during the month of August, yet very few of them are actually traded. Since it's bad PR to admit that a franchise is placing most of its players on waivers - and outside the understanding of most fans - you rarely hear about it. It's only a story when one of the players is actually traded. Thanks, BJK...but this all seems so unnecessarily complicated. It's generally assumed that Harper will not be a Nat next year. Why don't the Astros or the filthy rich Yanks/Saux/Cubs just BUY the guy?

  16. Per the Washington Post: On Friday, the Washington Nationals placed Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy, Matt Adams, Gio Gonzalez and Mark Reynolds on revocable waivers, according to people familiar with their plans. Teams had two days to put a claim on the players. Of the group, at least Harper, Murphy and Adams were claimed. The winning teams were notified Sunday, and have until Tuesday afternoon to work a trade with the Nationals. I'm not sure what all this means. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2018/08/21/bryce-harper-and-daniel-murphy-have-been-claimed-on-waivers-dont-bet-on-deals-just-yet/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.df1c067bfbfe
  17. It's really going to be an interesting 6 weeks. I have to figure the Dodgers are gonna bully their way past the Rockies soon, and a 5 way tie with some combination is really a possibility. Milwaukee + 0.5 Phillies Cardinals Colorado ____________ Dodgers - - - 2 Pittsburgh -- 6 Nationals - - 6.5 San Fran --- 7
  18. Carp's cooled off considerably. Lately getting a lot of production from the lower and speedier lower part of the order. Bader is the spark plug. I mean, sure...he's had a not-spectacular week but he's still the most dangerous hitter on the team. Were we expecting him to continue to hit .400 with 5 HR every week for the rest of the season? I'm not throwing fastballs down the middle to Mookie Betts if he's had a 0 HR, 3/19 week so that I can focus on pitching around Eduardo Nunez. Of course.

  20. The pressure is starting to show as evidenced by Puig's meltdown fricass after striking out on a hittable pitch. Over in the AL the Astros are in the same boat: 5 straight losses I think. The mighty Cubs are only 7 and 6 in August...but they might be playing possum.
  21. Mixed feelings here. Now with Pham traded and he now broke of foot the OF just got really young. As a side note Pham broke his foot too!
  22. Thanks. I wish Quick Pitch could come on earlier when I wasn't half baked, half asleep. But now I remember it was you guys that played the Bucs and won a toughie, 1-0. Did I dream it or did Caine make another insane catch at the wall to save the game? The Brewers played the Dodgers, and yes Cain made a great catch. The Cubs played the Pirates and lost, allowing the Brewers to bring the "games back" to zero, although the Cubs are still percentage points ahead in the standings. LOL...O for 2. I'm gonna have to start watching the morning replay of Quick Pitch!
