  1. Now that I think of it, Uek is the only actor from the film who's still on top! Snipes' tax dodging snafu...Sheen went insane ... Beringer got old and the Jobu Pedro guy just does commercials. They would all show up at the games....borderline media circus!
  2. The answer is a resounding NO. Mo' hired him as a rookie manager with zero experience at any level to be the stoic yes-man in contrast to Tony La freakin' Russa, who actually called the shots. As long as the team is making money those two have a job. It will be strange to root for you guys vs. the team of my youth this weekend, but the Cubs got their WS monkey off their back, ditto the Red/White Sox and you guys are due. The dream match up in my mind would be Milwaukee-Cleveland, who also has not won it all since the '50's.
  3. Will he play the rooks? Will he continue to sit Molina for the season due to his concussion issue? And Carpenter for his shoulder? Will he have a quick hook so he can see young pitching? Or will he really try to beat you for the integrity of the game? I think he will try to the best of his limited abilities as the baseball world will be watching because it's the only thing left to watch of any circumstance. It's only locally known that he's an idiot as a manager. He doesn't want that to get out I would think. FWI: It looked for all the world last night that the Cardinals did not care. 10 strikeouts looking, 17 in all. You gotta go back a lot of years for a Cardinal offense that putrid.
  4. They are 4-6 over their last 10. If the Brewers (or Cardinals) do their job of winning out, it'll be a very interesting finish. But most likely we go 2-1 one way or the other in our last series and cancel each other out. Ironic.
  5. Well guys it looks like the Rockies remembered how to win a ball game at the same time we did. Looks bad.
  6. Have to say that you guys are playing the Cubs tough. The Pirates crushed us tonight and my thinking is that neither one of us is gonna catch the Cubs with only 8 games left. They are NOT going to just collapse, and I will bet money that we will lay down to them in those last 4 games vs. them. The team to watch is the Rockies. They have seemed to forget how to hit...shut out 3 times this week!
  7. It was 2011. I do remember seeing that on the highlights (missed the game) Thanks
  8. The post of the day! On Nyjer: I do remember some issue with him around 2010 or so. Please refresh my memory.
  9. Jericho said: The past 20 years or so the NL Central has been generally been pretty bad. Every now and then one of the other 4 (or 5) teams would put together a good year or two but it's really just been the Cardinals who have been consistency competent. Now I'm not saying their success has been because everyone else has been bad but it will be interesting to see how they do the next few years while the Cubs are riding high and the Brewers and Reds become legitimate. Unbelievably the Reds are catching the Pirates, only one game back. I suspect the Bucs will unload 'Cutch and do the re-build thing.
  10. Not hating the Cardinals as much? How am I supposed to explain that to my kids? Thanks for the link. (That's because they got skidmarks in their britches!) I knew nothing of this. Now I know why Clark was fired from the pre-game show and why he spilled the beans on Albert's PED use. And to the poster who pointed out the 10 year stretch with little or no Black American players: it's a situation that Cardinal fans don't seem to care about. They don't say nothing. I was banned from the Post Dispatch's infamous Cards Talk for bringing it up some 8 years ago.
  11. That's the funniest post I've read in months. It's a sticky situation. When the Cards still had a chance and you guys were about to play the Cubs I was wondering what the best scenario was. Who do I pull for? After consideration I decided the best thing was for you to take 2 of 3. But then you swept them. Then the Cubs swept us. Worst scenario for you, the death knell for us. Going forward I don't think you guys have to worry about whether the Cards will play them tough. We have 4 rookies playing every day and 2 in the rotation and they don't want to go back to the Memphis bushes. I don't know if I envy or feel sorry for you guys. For me the worrying is over. I've been eased to the ground while you guys are still dangling over a boiling pot!
  12. Pretty disappointing September around here. The Cub sweep was a dagger to the heart, but as I previously said: We were not going to do squat in the playoffs even if we made it. You guys have a punchers chance. Good luck and keep the pressure on those Cubs/Rockies.
  13. I had forgotten about the Marlins...MORE to worry about!
  14. I wonder if the Braves have all their division flags flying? Anyone know?
  15. We are 4-8 vs. the Cubs so far. They eat our lunch. Ate it last season too. I have to feel a little less scared now because the Cubs are not hitting. Not for average anyway. Chris Bryant leads the team at .285. The Memphis Redbirds now playing in St. Louis (5 of 'em) are batting a combined .300 with power. It may be too late in the season for those kids to be figured out. You know, they ALL come up looking like future HOFers, then cool way off and get sent back down. Well the Cardinals are playing better right now. You will start with the ultimate mismatch of Martinez vs Lackey. And you'll for sure miss Lester. They are listing Saturday and Sunday as TBD in hopes that Arrieta can pitch, you'll likely face 2 of Quintana, Hendricks, Arrieta. Cardinals seem like the type of team that would destroy Hendricks, we'll see. At the moment I'm hoping the Cardinals take 4 or 5 of the remaining 7 from Chicago, that might change by the 25th. Oh yeah, missing Lester is huge. Not only does he out-pitch us, he PICKS US OFF of 1st base!

Which brings me to Schwarber: word on the Chicago street is that he will be GONE after the season.
  17. It's a death knell for LA.....they don't recover from this. AZ and CO will fare better in the post
  18. Yep....a week ago it looked like the Rocks were slipping away. Now they are getting dramatic wins vs. tough teams.
  19. There's no reason in hell not to be thinking Central champ. The Cubs are floundering, plain and simple. My thinking last week was the Cards/Brewers had to win a combined 9 of 14 to have a chance. By sweeping them last weekend you lowered that equation....significantly. They're in a heap of trouble and they know it. Wouldn't it be something if they didn't make the playoffs AT ALL. Man, would the sportswriters love that!
  20. LOL...not really. Didn't you guys sweep the mighty Dodgers to get their losing skid started? Maybe you can do that for the Cubbies!
  21. AZ is on freaking fire. They pounded the mighty Dodgers into the dirt. Good thing is: there's still plenty of time for them to cool off before October. Yea just mostly my bitterness to how STL always somehow pulls it out and finds away. They'll probably win the WS Not likely. Can't get past the Nats...at all. Maybe you or the Cubs can.

  23. Card fans felt the same way, but got the benefit of playing some really bad teams and some hot rookies filling in for under-performing vets. I still think the Cubs win the Central, but the Colorado swoon has the WC door wide open for both of us. We both have a tough schedule coming up (all Central teams and the Cards are by far the worst in- division team) but there does appear to be a chink in the Cubs armor of late. We have a combined 14 games vs. the Cubs. It's conceivable that one or both of us catch 'em. Maybe the last 2 game series of the season with you will be HUGE.
  24. I have to wonder why Matheny lets anybody pitch to Thames.
  25. These words prove prophetic! The Cubs are not going to win the Central easily. Call it a hangover, the league figuring out those hot rookies or Maddon going senile. As you know, except for the Reds, the Central is basically a .500 division. Are any of us going to beat the Nationals and then the Dodgers???
