  1. Jose Hernandez is not a star ... spending money for the sake of spending money is not what I'm talking about ... you are mischaracterizing things, again. I'm talking about retaining guys who are achieving star status (i.e., Carlos Lee) AND then pursuing more stars in the off-season free agent market ... not looking to sell/trade guys like Carlos Lee because he's gonna' be pricey. Carlos Lee is a proven star hitter in the league. Jose Hernandez .... please ... don't accuse me of going along with stupid past moves.
  2. Come on .... get real ... the Marlins are not perennial winners. They have to have a fire sale once they taste success. Is that what you want? I want a perennial winner .... not a team that has to get lucky once in a while, then have a fire sale to reduce payroll to a meager sum. I'll not dignify your Craig Counsell for Weeks/etc. reference ... that is not what I said at all. Bait and switch game.
  3. Actually, the Seligs had a payroll more in line with other teams' payrolls some years ago. Going from 28th to 25th spot in the MLB in terms of spending is not significant at all!
  4. Anybody else completely nauseated by St. Louis fans being noisier than Milwaukee fans tonight? St. Louis is not exactly next door, either. If Mark A. cares, he needs to step up and get our payroll in the Cardinals range. He needs to initiate this whole thing. Milwaukee is fed up with having to initiate things around here. Put a winner on the field for a change. Pay up! Or get out of the MLB, period. Or change the MLB system so that cheap owners/smaller markets have a fair chance --- cheap owners will always hurt the team, that said, though.
  5. So, what? That's a drop in the bucket compared to teams that seriously desire to win. Did you look at the 2006 salaries by teams here, yet?
  6. They spend more than we do ... and they don't have the fancy ballpark to bring in fans and all that jazz, either, that fans have foot the bill for through taxes, etc. See here.
  7. Our payroll is nowhere close to the perennial winners' payrolls. Check it out for yourself. Mark A. is doing little different than did the Seligs. He is a little more clever in marketing ... that's about it. http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/salaries
  8. Milwaukee is a home away from home for the Chicagos and St. Louis' and even Minnesota's because the Brewers have done nothing in terms of paying enough for a decent team around here for quite a long time. Milwaukeeans/Wisconsinites are not stupid enough to come out to a game in full force to watch us flail against a more handsomely paid team because their owners care about winning more than our owners do. We are a minor league team (at the owner's discretion) catering to the big boys in the MLB because we pay peanuts compared to what the other teams pay, generally. .500 or bust is our motto ... by contrast, other teams want the playoffs/pennant (they aren't shy about shelling out the dough to do just that)! Lots of seats for winning organizations' fans in Milwaukee. We have better things to do than watch our overmatched guys help your team win another game at our (fans) expense.
  9. :lol Gary Sheffield Dale Murphy Reggie Jackson Henry Aaron Willie Mays Mickey Mantle Carl Yastrzemski Roberto Clemente Cal Ripken Jr. Eddie Murray Nolan Ryan Roger Clemens Warren Spahn Ted Williams Babe Ruth Still just getting warmed up ... this might be even more apparent to you if Barry had not cheated for several seasons which gives him the image of invincibility that is not earned righteously.
  10. @tomwopat: That's brilliantly timed! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. @davego: I feel your pain. It's horrible giving up back-to-back homeruns in that situation on 0-2 pitches! I think sitting next to some of those other minor leaguers circulating through the bullpen this season may have rubbed off on Matty tonight ... time to come back tomorrow angry and kick the Padres out of town with force! :D
  12. Why didn't Ned pinch-hit for Moeller. Hart, Cirillo, and Miller are all much better hitters! Egads! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  13. There's a number of players I'd take before a cheating guy like Bonds. Ken Griffey Jr. Albert Pujols Alex Rodriguez Derek Jeter Tony Gwynn George Brett Robin Yount Paul Molitor Rickey Henderson Rod Carew Wade Boggs Dave Winfield Jim Thome Frank Thomas Don Mattingly I'm just getting warmed up. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. OK ... Go Brewers! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Well, you should be despite tonight's unusual performance. Matt Wise has been a terrific pitcher since the start of last season for us. Check the stats when you get a chance. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Yeah, Rickie Weeks has the highest batting average on the team for starters ... he's a bust ... dump him. Leads the team in stolen bases, too ... what a waste ... he deserves to be mocked by fans.
  17. @ jloos19: I find your signature most disgusting.
  18. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gifhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif Seriously, these guys wanted to win ... it just didn't happen tonight. Tomorrow Duke will lose to Wisconsin. That is, Zach will lose to the Brewers! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif And should the Brewers lose tomorrow by some incredible circumstance, the rally cry next year will be something like this: "We ain't losers anymore -- NOW it's our time to win!"
  19. I wonder how we ever got to .500, then. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/indifferent.gif Are the Brewers underachievers, then?
  20. I'm positive that Hall has better range than Hardy. I'm sure that Hall can slug at an average easily 100 points higher than Hardy. I'm sure that Hall can steal 20-25 or more bases than can Hardy. I'm sure that Hall can have a better batting average than Hardy and a very similar, if not better, OBP than Hardy, also. That's why I want Hall at starting SS. Let Hardy find his way at other positions or as a backup to Hall. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  21. It takes less athleticism to play 2B or 3B, so Hardy should be able to make the adjustment to either of those positions capably I would think (by the way, I don't play video games). I want what is best for the Brewers, also. If you think Hall is the best athlete, I don't understand the aversion to having your best athlete play the most difficult position on the infield which requires the most play attempts and range. I understand that Hardy is a natural SS, but so WAS Hall when he was coming out of the minors.
  22. That is not a compromise I'm willing to make, myself, though. I think Hall should be the starting SS because of his sheer athletic advantages and demonstrated skills that go along with that athleticism at what is easily the most important/busy position on the infield. I'm an idealist, I suppose. You don't think Hardy could back up at 3B or 2B, periodically? If not, why not? Let Hardy pick up the scraps while the just-earned guy starts at the busiest position on the infield. That's my take. Should be an interesting season next season, though. I am encouraged by Hardy's at-bats the past few months. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  23. I don't ... my question regarding racial motivation possibilities earlier apply to those to who I was speaking to, nonetheless --- if it doesn't apply to you because you are non-white or because you have logical and just defense of starting Hardy at SS, then you are clear of any such motivations that might be prejudicing your take on the whole matter. I think it is fairly reasonable to guess that the majority of posters here are of Hardy's race than that of Hall's, that said. I have no problem with people choosing one over the other based upon merit. I just find unmerited favor being hoisted in Hardy's direction while Hall has done everything this season that can possibly be imagined to earn the starting nod at SS. I will treego away for awhile now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  24. Sorry ... I think you didn't read my full post, then, or you are simply misunderstanding me. Peace! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif Who is worthy of keeping Hall out of the starting lineup? Anybody?
  25. Hall has been on a tear for more than a week ... check the season totals ... every bit as good as Carlos Lee's, I think. 5 hit game, 4 hit game, 4 hit game ... just 1 of the 4 needed hits for a cycle twice very recently, also ... the guy is just a ball-masher ... I don't have a vendetta against anybody if they are not touted as being worthy of keeping Hall on the bench! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
