  1. You must support your assertion with at least one example.
  2. All fans should get a refund for today's game. The Brewers are NOT playing to win by bringing in Suppan. This goes against the implied message to fans: "When you come to a game, we will do our level-best to win the game." This is a bad-faith move by the Brewers. It is ridiculous that they keep destroying fan morale with this joke of a pitcher. Shame on the Brewers for souping-on-the-fans!
  3. Kudos to Casey McGhee. That guy really has a nice swing. His bat stays in the hitting zone for such a long period of time. His swing reminds me of Carlos Lee's in that regard. Some guys have a chopping style in the strike zone and don't give themselves much chance to consistent contact. Rickie Weeks had that problem before this season so often, I thought. Of course, Ryan Braun is a sheer treat to watch at the plate. Manny Parra ... great job ... I respect your turnabout very much! Ramirez (a classless cheater) getting the last out against the classy Trevor Hoffman ... good and satisfying ending tonight!
  4. Face it ... the Brewers are suffering the blues of being a small-market team ... can have a good season every decade or so ... but cannot sustain it ... this team cannot go get good free agents routinely as needed like the Sox (Red or White), Cubs, Cards, Yanks, Dodgers, etc. Prince will be gone soon, too, and this team will be fighting the Pirates once again for another decade like it did from the early 90's thru 2006.
  5. Actually, the 2005 and 2006 seasons were not good offensive seasons at all for Hardy. Check the stats for yourself. 2007 and 2008 were good seasons. I think JJ is very average, actually, overall.
  6. I wouldn't call Gwynn a better player than Gerut. They are about equal and both are AAAA type players. Petco plays better for Gwynn than Miller Park would so Gwynn really didn't have much value to the Brewers. Melvin could have probably gotten a better player for Gwynn but I doubt that. I'll say Gwynn is better than Gerut (certainly this season). I said some something more controversial than this today when I said, "It appears that August is merely a day away."
  7. Split the time now between them. Tell both players this up-front. Let them fight for the starter's role for 1 month. If nobody is clearly playing better than the other, continue to split up playing time. If one is playing significantly better than the other, play him 80% of the games until a 2-week slump occurs whereupon the manager splits time evenly again for a specified period to determine the starter's role again until a 2-week slump occurs again.. Case closed. :-)
  8. Well, Suppan has an affinity for walks; a leash does seem appropriate. However, I wouldn't worry about a leash; I'd let this dog run free and hope he never comes back.
  9. Exactly! How can professionals not see the obvious!? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  10. Let's just cut to the chase ... Suppan is a horrible, horrible choice in a do-or-die playoff game when Gallardo and a committee including McClung, Mota, etc. is available to boot. Suppan is the epitome of the batting practice hitter's delight. He throws way too many meatballs down the middle with low velocity. He is a nice guy who got decent results for the Cardinals in the playoffs once upon a time and got a tag that does not stick because it was more-or-less a fluke. Sveum, Yost, and likely Attanasio/Melvin could not bring themselves to a place of courage on this call ... the call to have Suppan step down from big game situations because he is altogether shaky.
  11. Sveum inexcusably pitches Suppan. Sveum is as block-headed as Yost, then! Unbelievable stuff from the managers this season! Why can they NOT SEE that Suppan is a huge stinker. He has nothing ... he's a batting-practice hitter's delight! He has no out-pitch, no velocity, no changeup (his pitches are all slow), very little command (way too many balls down the middle), and has been a below average major league starter for some time. His WHIP, ERA, K's all are well below league average. Can you imagine this guy's ERA in the AL? And we have a young stud like Yo available today! Good grief! Don't pitch a guy because he's a nice guy. Don't pitch a guy because he has a big contract. Don't pitch a guy unless he has as much or more talent than the next guy, especially in do-or-die games like this. I blame Sveum. Yost was Toast. One is numb and the other is dumb.
  12. I hate the Cubs a lot. I'm a die-hard Brewers fan for life and always have been. That said, the Cubs have nothing to be ashamed of. They are division champs and were very good all season. They were better than the Brewers, certainly. The playoffs are a crap-shoot. Anything can happen in these short series. Hey, the Royals or Padres or Nationals could go all the way if given the chance to compete in a best of 5/7 series format with other teams in the playoffs. The best team doesn't always win in the playoffs. It just doesn't. I don't think the Cubs choked or anything. I think they just slumped somewhat at the wrong time and the Dodgers peaked a little at the right time. The regular season for all its games is a bit undervalued if you ask me. Regardless of all that I've just said, it's nice to know that the Cubs are out of the picture. Go Brewers!
  13. Why is Corey swinging at the FIRST pitch against a guy who has just walked 3 batters? DUMB!!!!! Skaalen ... do you talk to these guys about a sensible approach at the plate?
  14. A bigger disappointment than Glenn Braggs?
  15. No kidding. Has Mat even had a single AB yet? I saw him get one AB in late-inning blowout loss and rip a double.
  16. Few managers in the big leagues could be worse than Ned in spotting trends and weak performers on his own roster and then having the gumption to yank them from the starting squad without worrying about personal offense.
  17. There are plenty of people that should be in the rotation besides Suppan .... Bush, McClung, Villanueva just to name a small handful. Suppan is a terrific human being by most human standards, but he just isn't good enough. When will Ned put aside personal allegiances for the good of the team? When? This is Ned's biggest downfall, and in a close pennant race again, this will surely hamper our ability to achieve our playoff goals once again. Cut this nonsense out, and play the best performers! For Milwaukee's sake, can't you see that Suppan is not as good as several other guys in the rotation, Ned? Look at the stat sheets. Good grief!!!
  18. Ditto here. Ned Yost is our Steve Bartman. I've been saying for it at least 2 seasons now. He doesn't see storm clouds brewing fast enough because he's blinded by stupid loyalty to guys he likes. He is too sentimental and soft with some guys. Performance is all that matters, Ned! When will you get the clue on time?
  19. In the words of Jon McGlocklin on Bucks broadcasts with Jim Paschke, "Ya' think?!!!!???!!!"
  20. What's Lebron James doing in a Brewers' game thread? Is he looking to bring CC back to Cleveland?
  21. The Brewers will break through. The Brewers are hitting the ball hard ... just bad luck so far. Ned, pitching Suppan however, is just asking for a loss, though. :-(
  22. Ditto! Bat Kendall 8th. Bat your worst hitting guy 9th ... Weeks or the pitcher.
  23. Yost ain't going anywhere soon. It's simply the players fault. Yost cannot be faulted for the players hitting and pitching so poorly. Too many guys are just not playing to expectations at all.
  24. This team has potential, offensively. This team has horrible starting pitching right now. Middle relief pitching has been good. Closers have been bad. The defense is average. This team is a .500 team at best.
  25. Remember how your parents told you to look to the LEFT and to the RIGHT before crossing the street. Well, I don't think Doug Melvin's parents told him that. Melvin crossed Trade Street today and got squashed by a Ray-Mobile. First, we dump Claudio Vargas. Now, we dump Gabe Gross. Are we looking to get better or not this season?
