  1. I totally agree! Ditto! The Rays robbed the Brewers in this trade. What is Doug Melvin doing here? The Brewers are really underestimating Gross' ability and value, I believe. Terrible trade!
  2. If Gagne gets 40 saves this year, it will certainly require about 20 blown saves or so, it seems. It's gonna' be tough for the Brewers to be above .500 without a decent closer. I don't see Gagne as a decent closer. He is blowing up in too many 9th innings with the long-ball. He's trying to convert from a power-pitcher to a finesse-pitcher; it's a difficult and painful transition, especially in the closer roll. Ugghh.
  3. So is there anyone to blame for this, namely Sheets himself? Is he not doing something that he should be doing that would make him less susceptible to injuries? Is he just unlucky? Is the training staff doing something wrong in preparing Sheets? Is Sheets previous back injuries just throwing his body out of alignment and causing these multitude of 'tweaks' that throw him off (this last question is chiropractic theory)?.
  4. 10% of the season is not a small sample.
  5. How many more games until I'm worried about the offense? Zero.
  6. There's a lot of holes in the lineup right now. This team won't even contend if guys like Braun, Fielder, and Hardy don't step it up and start performing remotely close to what they did last season. I'm a little concerned about Weeks and Hall not performing to expectations the past season-plus now, also. The only regulars playing at or beyond expectations are Hart and Kendall (Kapler is not a regular). I'm hoping that Cameron will help some guys relax and give a boost to this team at the end of the month. Check the box score tonight ... horrible lineup averages compared to the Cardinals' lineup: http://jsonline.stats.com/mlb/boxscore.asp?gamecode=280416124
  7. To answer your thread question, I sure hope not, but look at the current averages in our lineup tonight compared to St. Louis' lineup averages. Are we thinking these guys are/were better than they really are? The discrepancy in batting average between the teams' lineups tonight is rather significant ... even for just a 14-15 game stretch, I believe. Perhaps, the Brewers are just not that good. Perhaps, Hardy, Braun, and Fielder snuck up on some teams last season and had career years last year. I sure hope that Weeks and Hall at the very least can pick it up some. http://jsonline.stats.com/mlb/boxscore.asp?gamecode=280416124
  8. I liked him. You got a beef with old men at Brewer games? This old man deserves some air time, I think. It sure beats watching player x and player y spit for the 14th time between pitches. (took picture out of quote --1992)
  9. Perhaps, we have Telemundo's production crew doing games now for FSN. If you've ever seen a Brewer game on Telemundo in the past, you'll know what I mean!
  10. Perhaps, you can send them a link of this thread so they can view all the people here wondering why it seems that games are produced by less than capable people so far this season?
  11. I could not say it any better, Ajay.
  12. All I want to know is this: Why after fighting back from a 9-2 deficit to tie the game in the top of the 9th does a manager send Chris Spurling out to the mound to face the lefty and league MVP Justin Morneau to open up the bottom of the 9th. That decision broke the camel's back for me. Ned has lost me for a long time, but that was incredibly dense. Leaving Bush into face the Giants in the 7th is sheer genius in comparison to that managing gem at the Metrodome when Morneau predictably socked as easy a walkoff homerun as he'll ever have.
  13. How come nobody is cheering for Brewers here? Am I in the Brewerfan forum or not? Since it seems like current Brewers are prohibited from this list, here's my guys: 1) Sean Casey (terrific guy) 2) Ichiro (poetry in motion) 3) Pujols (greatness without controversy) 4) Eric Byrnes (his hyperness is beautiful) 5) Lyle Overbay (good attitude with underrated ability)
  14. I understand your reasoning to be sure. However, we should know Hardy's capabilities better than Fontenot's because Hardy has been in the majors considerably longer than Fontenot. We know Hardy's ceiling a little better than Fontenot's, I believe. So, I'm not sure that any so-called Fontenot inflation is the same as Hardy's early season surge that may be inflating his overall number this season beyond what we can normally expect to see from him. I'm trying to be objective here, trust me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Perhaps I was being too judgmental. My apologies. You are using OPS which is an objective statistic. I cannot argue that point. Perhaps, OPS is not always the best way to judge between players. But, I'd have to admit it's about as good a way as there is IF you're looking at only one offensive stat to compare players with. It seems that the Brewers might have some inflated stats based on an early-season burst that seems more fluke than anything at this point. Hardy is one I'm especially thinking of. Cardinals just hit a grand slam and lead the Cubs 6-0 after 5 innings. We can agree that is a good thing, though, I bet! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. I just don't see that at all. "Far superior?" Wow! Floyd has been an all-star and is still very dangerous. DeRosa is a terrific athlete that can rip the ball, too. Hart is a very nice player but in no way is he vastly superior to either of these Cubs.
  17. You got me there. I should not have limited the comparison to strictly those two aspects of the game, certainly.
  18. Well, it seems you're contradicting yourself now because you won't accept Theriot being better than Hardy because of a smaller sample but then raise Braun over Ramirez based on a relatively small sample. You cannot have it both ways ... unless you're looking at things with "homer" glasses. Trust me, I know it's easy to do. I do it often myself. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Well, when I compare players. I compare using the whole picture ... not just isolated statistics. Fielding is important.
  20. I disagree with your 1st base assessment. I don't think Fielder is clearly better than Lee. Lee is a better average hitter and a better fielder, to boot. I call this even at best for the Brewers. I disagree with your SS assessment. Theriot is playing better than Hardy over the past few months, certainly. I even disagree with your 3B assessment. Ramirez is a better clutch hitter than anybody. Braun has been excellent, no doubt, but he's not the defender that Ramirez is, either. I call this one even. RF is break-even also, I think. Saying that Gallardo is superior to Zambrano is not a proper assessment, either. I like Gallardo, but he's not an all-star, yet. You left Dempster (the Cubs closer) out of your comparison, also. You are comparing apples and oranges a little, it seems, as a result. You didn't convince me much. It seemed you were a tad biased. It was an interesting view, though.
  21. I think "fire" is a non-issue here. I think the Brewers need more major-leage talent AND a manager that will play his best everyday---enough of trying to keep everybody happy and fresh. These guys are too young to be burned out. Get a few more talents and play your best talent, period.
  22. As a Brewers fan, I hate to admit this: the Cubs simply have a better roster than the Brewers. The Cubs top 6 batters tonight are nearly all .300 hitters. One guy at .290, another at .299. One guy at .278. These guys overall are just tougher outs than the Brewers lineup, especially with Yost benching his best all too regularly, it seems. Mark DeRosa is a very good ballplayer and cannot even crack the starting lineup tonight. Along with that, the Cubs pitching staff is rock-solid. The only bad arm on their staff is Scott Eyre. Everybody else (and I mean "everybody else") has a good to very good WHIP and BAA. Again, there are virtually no weak links on their staff. They can use Eyre in out-of-control games and no other games so Eyre's ineffectiveness is not much of an issue at all. Somebody, please try to convince me that the Brewers truly have better talent overall in terms of hitting and pitching. I could use the cheering up considering the Brewers fade over the past few months. (unambigufied thread title --1992)
  23. Thanks for the advice, Mr. Yost. Seriously, I owe this loss to 2 guys not hustling/earning their paycheck----JJ Hardy and Estrada. AND to a bunch of hitters that are nowhere Braun's caliber, it seems. Braun is incredible.
  24. It's important enough to Attanasio that he said on tonight's Brewers game on TV that he is watching 6 hours of baseball daily now: the Brewers game AND the Cubs game.
