  1. Unlucky. that Rowand ball was a half inch too low to be caught... struck the butt heel of Corey's glove.
  2. not the pitch to swing at Cam... see that stat? Lowest (career?) batting average (.203) with bases loaded. cripes. and ugh Glaus: 3 run jack to go up 2.
  3. wicked bottom 2 filth Manny. downright repugnant. Giants broadcast guy still saying Durham is not playing because of the flu. heh heh heh.
  4. It's just me being crazy, but I would rather have Sheets go tomorrow on normal rest. 42 pitches is 42 pitches, but muscles are funny in the way they can remember things and enjoy routine. Let Parra have his way with Sanchez and let Benny out-duel Timmy L tomorrow. Alas! It will be good practice for when Benny needs to pitch on 3 days rest in the NLCS.
  5. This is an interesting way to put it. What if CC makes 20% of the team payroll and pitches in (read: wins) 20% of the team's games? Far be it from me to suggest CC can go 35 - 0 in a season, but he can stand on the hill with a AA line-up (ok, offense only) behind him and give the team a chance to win in most MLB ballparks. Yeah yeah, I know - I've got the seriously thick CC goggles on, but they feel great. When do we get the shutout from him, by the way? But if you can "pencil him in for" 18 wins, that's 20% of 90 right there. Of course we have to enjoy the ride, but you have to wonder how Doug & Co. plan to handle the off-season offers - particularly with the sensitivity of the Sheets situation. The farm-raised decadal stalwart versus the ephemerally new hired gun "toy". Taking a back seat and responding to the market place would be a mistake, and I (agreeing with others here) can see Benny developing a big time inferiority complex and playing the disrespect card if he is not the "primary goal of the off-season." And to address the small marketism talk - we have stupid money tied up in the bullpen. That is not sustainable and not a wise investment.
  6. is Hardy moving to 2nd or 3rd in the scenario where Escobar becomes the star SS of the future?
  7. Basically the premise here is to keep Sheets on his normal rest, and to let CC have 1 extra day rest. (generous, huh? considering he pitched 241 innings last year I thought I'd throw him a bone.) I laid out the calendar and CC - pitching every 5th day regardless of days off, etc - would still get 15 starts (!) and would be on target to pitch game #162. Sorry for the diarhea formatting... F - 18 (@SF): Sa - 19: Sabathia Su - 20: Sheets M - 21 (@STL): T - 22: W - 23: Th - 24: Sabathia F - 25 (v HOU): Sheets Sa - 26: Su - 27: M - 28 (v CHC): T - 29: Sabathia W - 30: Sheets Th - 31:
  8. Not to downplay this distinct honor but Volquez, Webb and Lincecum (all with better "numbers" and perhaps more "deserving") were all unable to pitch based on how the rotations shaked out. I'm just glad he beat out Zambrano and hopefully he doesn't throw his elbow off trying to get that extra yearly mil or two in front of a dozen suitors-to-be.
  9. man, what a difference one game (okay, 2 games with the Giants winning @ Wrigley) is going to make for my psyche for the entirety of all-star break... I see a BIG scheduling advantage for the Crew in the second half... my highly scientific analysis as follows (showing a CREW+6 advantage): Head to Head: 7 games @ Miller, 3 games @ Wrigley Edge: CREW++ against Cardinals Cubs v3, @3, v3 --- Crew @4, @2 Edge: CREW+ against Phillies Cubs v4 --- Crew @4 Edge: CUBS+ against Mets Cubs @4 --- Crew v3 Edge CREW++ against Pirates / Nationals Cubs v3, @3, v3 --- Crew v4, @3, v3, v3 Edge: CREW++ AND, I think CC is only going to get better and Harden only worse.
  10. This Crow is absolutely delicious. My gosh I've never had such good crow. Tip of the cap:CC, Ned, C.C., Kapler
  11. These 2 July CC starts have already justified the Zach Jackson portion of the trade. How about 10 wins in September / October to make us forgot all about the very existence of a certain FSU-senior-draft-pick-he-who-must-not-be-named?
  12. if you were Kapler wouldn't you be asking for an extra hour of ground balls at 2nd from Sveum at the end of practices?
  13. I wonder what we can get for CC at the trade deadline? We will be fine.
  14. This, too, will be the end of the Branyan honeymoon. Methinks 6 GMs for teams across 6 divisions should have some type of timeshare cooperative with ol Russ, whereby each team gets his "new to the uniform" OPS 1.000+ treatment for 27 games each.
  15. yeah who's got the better head for base running? as stolen bases are about way more than speed. - the contact play from third - heck, missing a squeeze sign - reading a flare off the bat to break from second - sac bunting skills I simply can not imagine the 8th ring of hell wrathful eruption of Mt. St. Brewerfan if Stocker or Gwynn were to make a AAA blunder on the basepaths during a "must win" situation. It would make the Motastrada loathing look like Branyan love. Trust in the Kremblas tutelage, I suppose.
  16. Wow I forgot about that... I assume that includes all the games through the ALCS. That is a ton (relatively) of innings. What's interesting about the Harden situation and the reported dead arm status is Hendry was on the radio talking about: 1) keeping all his pitch counts at 100 or lower 2) spot starting Gaudin / Marshall to get him on a start at 6 or 7 days rest 3) skipping his start all together during some turns I hope CC has got the freshness he needs in late October - or is it early November again?
  17. 6 runs 8 pitches sure sounds better than the tix i tried to buy!
  18. I think this thread is a bunch of bologna. Or at least it needs to be re-labeled as a bologna substitute. "Melvin still looking..." at what? The financial implications of CC? Ha! Maybe he's still looking at the concession revenue, the payroll, the broadcasting, the parade route... no way jose. So what was Mark A actually referring to being the recipient of Doug's gaze? Soaria, Fuentes, B Wilson, Grant Balfour...?
  19. That darn last minute busload of nuns really screwed me up! F: 41,463 Sa: 39,176 Su: 42,163 M: 35,161 T: 42,533 =200,496 50.1% to 400K through 5 of 10 games; and the best is yet to come. Should be a cinch; truly remarkable. Sheets tonight. SRO Thursday for Bush? I tried to buy tickets for Sunday but they wanted to put me in the clocktower. Mark A. was lying through his teeth when he said the Brewers would go into the red with this deal... probably makes his wallet harder to close is what it does. It'll be an interesting analysis when all is said and done anyway.
  20. that was the "laziest" 96 mph fastball i've ever seen. either the MP gun is Quick or it's just deceptive velocity. some runs would be good. just 2. okay, 3.
  21. how do you feel if you are Jason Kendall today? you show up at your job and you've got a new Ferrari to drive around... ...and decide to leave all the other cars in the garage: Jaguar (Sheets: phenomenal performance but takes forevers to get parts when broken) Acura (Parra: up-and-comer on the luxury market) Mustang (McClung: hell of a lot of straight-forward power) F-150 (Bush: gets the job done though not appropriate in every setting) Civic (Suppan: it'll get you there)
  22. just put his head down and jogged. love it. that top 1 K was bigger than his pants.
