  1. can we chat about the "safety squeeze" or do I have to go into yesterday's IGT? Hart was clearly out, and being called safe, I think, has muted most of the criticism of that asinine decision. First of all, when did that actually become a play? You trade the risk of a pitch-out and a missed / popped up bunt against the disadvantageous play at the plate. Second, if you can't trust Counsel to put the bunt down, there is no one on the roster you can. C) Would Hart have broken away from third if it wasn't a 50' bunt? I am loving this Gallardo Greinke bookended series.
  2. man. summer is going to be fun. it seems that with Gallardo, Marcum and Greinke, there is a great pitcher going, like, every other day.
  3. Advice for Axford: have some fiber. I do not want to see you crap your pants out there later.
  4. DANG! that's a potent 1 thru 5. and I mean the Reds. Should be a really fun season; can't believe it's here already. Raising my glass to Yo and Zack pitching on 6 days rest each for games 1 and 2 of the NLDS at Miller Park.
  5. how about... are the Brewers capable of solidifying a playoff berth while having the luxury of setting their rotation such that Greinke & Gallardo pitch in game 1 & 2 on 5 or 6 days rest? (instead of riding Sabathia into the ground in the lead up to, but that's another story). If the answer is Yes, then I take my chances and I would put the Brewers up against the Phillies for the pennant NO QUESTION.
  6. let's have the good Turnbow tonite! or the good Plesac! or the good Coco! or the good ______ (other guy that was good; made an all-star team?; that i can't place right now) KOLB!
  7. man. a nice wikipedia of greg vaughn produces the critical link "1998 in baseball" Sammy, Mark, the Kid, and Greg with 30 HR before the All-Star break!! (seriously!) but here's what i take away: MVP (AL) Juan Gonzalez* (NL) Sammy Sosa* Cy Young (AL) Roger Clemens* (NL) Tom Glavine Tom did it right.
  8. perhaps... considering Doc H is at 66 pitches thru 6, Yo might still have a thing or 2 to learn
  9. can anybody tell me what the disincentive to taking a banned supplement is in this case? this is absolute head-shaking inspiring garbage. Mcguire stated that the only reason he took steroids was to recover faster from injury. right. of course. that part is medically proven, but anyway... if you are injured, and you know a steroid will help you heal quicker, and you are looking at a long as hell rehab... now you're going to tell me that you can take all the steroids you want and burn up the 50 game suspension while you rehabilitate? and MLB wants to look in the mirror and say it is cleaning up the game? outrageous.
  10. Has anybody called the police on Charlie Manuel yet? I cannot wrap my head around this at all; seems like outright robbery.
  11. an excellent point! a "thumb sized" nugget in the dash console will perfume a closed car to high heaven. depends on the cop, but i also want to posit here that cop here is an A's fan, or maybe he thought Webb got jobbed in 2008... but that 9 out of 10 times you seize the nugget and let the car go. with Tim, he wanted to make an example out of him and called it in.
  12. Listen, if Tim is going to carry a nugget for personal use around in his car, more power to him. I think it is pretty short sighted of him not to have a medicinal card... vertigo, stress, loss of appetite, insomnia... whatever. A "specially referred" doctor in CA cannot refuse a patient a cannabis (and therefore access to 40 - 50 Bay Area pot clubs) prescription. This would have placated / assuaged the cop and it wouldn't be a story. Now I came here though to get a comparison to Jeffress. Why is it that he is one doobie away from life as an insurance salesman or taco truck driver or Indie League player, while Timmy L will report to Spring Training as a candidate for Cy Young? 50 and 100 game suspensions? Why would the policy in the minors be SO different from the law of the majors?
  13. I bet Escobar proves to be as valuable as half of Roy Halladay, presuming the package Melvin wouldn't deal was Gamel & Escobar + flotsam & jetsam.
  14. this is all part of Melvin's plan to out-maneuver the Nats & position the Crew for Bryce Harper! who I'm pretty sure, right now could out-OPS Kendall. man doug is brilliant!
  15. man, that's a formidable 2 thru 6. with slappy legging out a chopper every now and again? i'm not saying i'd swap Braun & Fielder for any of em, but on paper it looks real nice. their pitching must be Sandy Guerrero-quality.
  16. OKAY MACHA. what do you do with a line-up that banged out 14 hits? well obviously, you change it. tomorrow is game #91, and I don't know what the line-up is going to be. that's messed up. stick Hardy in the 2-hole, okay? leave him there for a week. they're creatures of habit. find a line-up already; geez, it's July.
  17. I personally don't think that we're going to get "Sheetsed" again... that is losing the A free agent but only getting a compensatory 2nd rounder. (or woe to the same Blue Jays here for getting Burnetted by the Yankess and only receiving their sandwich and a 3rd). that was a perfect storm of the Yankees blowing their wad. best case scenario is we re-sign Doc after 2010 and have 3-4 more years of Doc & Yo at the top of the rotation. Hello October, regularly. Bush/Parra/McClung/Villy/Dillard/Rogers/Arnett/Peralta/Anundsen/Whoever can fill it out. You don't necessarily need the depth because you've got 400 innings locked up 1-2. And we actually do have depth, even with 2 of that last 6 packaged and dealt. worst case scenario is we lose Doc to Boston or LA or wherever, but get the 2 high picks and replenish A+ ball with some polished college arms. I am starting to disengage from this being a reality... after a solid 36 hours fantasy. Is Ricciardi just a media $+%*@, or does he really need to unload Wells?
  18. That seems a little condescending toward me on that comment. "I think Burns should publish an apology to BrewCrewIn2004 for giving up three runs..." ...would have been a comment worth hen pecking over. as it stands it is benign and comical. Lighten up.
  19. I am starting to get legitimately excited about this. I think Mark A is frothing at the mouth and imploring Doug to get this done. Can't prove it, sorry. But I know that's how i-banker types operate. a little taste leaves you wanting more. the future is the future - worry about it later. We can extend Roy too. 4 seasons of Roy-Yo 1-2 is going to get season ticket sales JACKED. Anybody around Nashville or Huntsville to report back on suspicious gentleman flooding the stands with notebooks and big blue Js on their shirts?
