  1. Too many variables to forecast. It's like those parachutists that jump out of planes in contests to land on an egg. Everything now is macro-pitchnomics. Micro-rotationomics is next term. As long as playoff pitching rotations is on the table here... I want to say how pleased I would be to travel to Philly instead of walking into a stacked Webb - Haren - Soft Tossing Lefty Sharpie - XXX - Webb. The schedule gets super goofy is the near term with the 3 off days flanking 5 games. I would propose that the next Pirates series gets Bush, Suppan, McClung so "the bullets" can line up in In-Bev town on 7 days rest each.
  2. Stevo wrote: Mike Rivera must have the easiest job in MLB. Hey guys, Mike Rivera here. Thanks for all your support. You may have wondered how I could be posting in IGTs and still be playing catcher for the Crew... but hey, who am I kidding? Love posting here during the game! My job is not easy thank you very much. Sometimes the corner store runs out of Juicy Fruit and I have to go all the way to the grocery to pick up a case for the team. Those days are really rough. Don't even get me started about sweeping up the sunflower seeds from the dugout. Oop, gotta go... I need to carry around a box of baseballs around the clubhouse to get autographs. Check-in in a bit! -MR
  3. What? No "going for it" jokes yet? Man, I'm disappointed. http://twentydur.bytez.org/blog/imgs/2006/mayo/tyler-durden.jpg "...Hitting rock bottom is not a weekend retreat. It is not a got damn seminar. You just have to let it all go. It is only when you have lost everything you are free to do anything..." Ha! and we thought getting chased out of Miller Park on Thursday was rock bottom.
  4. This could have gone in any number of threads, but I chose this one over a few other valid options. I will not yet allow myself to utter the phrase that rhymes with "shwilling to shmettle shmor shme shmild shmard". Given the sheer chunk of the schedule that is left and that the Crew's schedule is just too advantageous: can't do it. Out of the 11 of 14 line items (ranked teams) below that are applicable, I see a distinct edge to the Crew on 8 of them. If the 6 head to headers goes 4 - 2 in the Brewers favor, the schedule strength can chip in the other 3, no? 50 to go 6 head to head 44 GL Crew Cubs @ 4 PHI 4 v 0 FLA 3 @ v 3 NYM 4 @ 0 ATL 3 @ v 4 WAS 3 v @ 2 STL 9 v, @, v v 3 HOU 9 v, v, @ v, @, v 9 PIT 3 @ @, v, @ 9 CIN 6 v, @ 0 AZ 0 @ 3 LAD 0 0 COL 0 0 SF 0 @, v 7 SD 0 23 Home 22 21 Away 22
  5. what we need here now is more cow-bell. more cow-nsell. i thought the inequation: heady Counsell turning bunt double play >> non-hustling Weeks producing double play ...would have guaranteed at LEAST one more day of playing time. When does the Power 50 release its Grit Rankings? Am I wrong in placing Weeks in the bottom 5 of Brewer 25 man roster grit relativity? Or do the HBPs and plowage of the Cubs catcher (game #3?) keep him permanently up there? The only players with less grit I can see is Braun & JJ (too pretty), Rivera (catchers shouldn't be offensive minded in Yost-ese) and Parra (Manny is too girly of a name). I was thinking about the performance over the last 4 days and, most certainly, I agree what was needed more than anything was a nice roadtrip. Sort of like how you return home after a wild Vegas bender (SF and STL) and your girlfriend / wife is all loving and caretaking at first even though there are domestic problems (HOU 1 of 3)... but then you settle into home and your normal chores are still there unattended and the real problems from the aforementioned bender (RISP hitting) get raised (lose the first 2) by the partner who was alone who starts to get all emotional because you're leaving again soon and all you did was create more work so some irrational fights happen (lose the next 2) and the best thing that happens is you call time-out and go back to the bar (Atlanta) until things cool down. Suppan, PLEASE allow me to somehow internally justify the $28M you are on the books for by - all I am asking is - keeping us in this one.
  6. I believe there will be construction on the I-94 either this year or in the next couple of years. construction, or semi-truck laying on its side blocking all 3 lanes of traffic? couldn't parking be set at $25 per car, and it's automatically reduced to $8 when the buyer says "Go Crew"? Wouldn't that be Kosh? Or, $17 dollar discount if wearing MB merch? Or 81 game home special... $8 parking for all Wisconsin license plates. I am sure there is a legal way to punish the fibs financially.
  7. screw hitting with RISP. it's solo dinger time! why change what you do best?
  8. Yeah, and I don't think that traffic sign directing northbound cars onto 894 is enough anymore - though it still is wildly amusing to me. There needs to be some kind of unannounced, emergency road repair from Kenosha to South Milwaukee that closes 2 lanes of traffic.
  9. Just because this makes sense doesn't make the situation any better. For the record, it is a great way of looking at it. One-third of the season left to play actually. One-third. It's all that's keeping me afloat. Hitting rock bottom is not a weekend retreat.
  10. how about a modest goal today? give the fans something to cheer about. the crowd composition is one matter (what a depressing, embarrassing scene last night - man i need a support group because now i've got the empathy)... but the crowd for the past 2 nights has not had a modicum of one iota of an opportunity to cheer about anything. the crowd gets established from the get-go and just rolls. Yo Adrian!
  11. You sir, are correct! (EVEN if this cannot be statistically quantified! I am a mite taken aback) As I am a holder of tickets to Wednesday's round 9 of the 16 round heavyweight belt fight, I would very much appreciate not having to walk out of the park after a rousing win still surrounded by smug drunkards content with the "so? we got the first 2" sentiment. Ben, "co-ace" status is still good you know.
  12. That thing is almost depressing to look at, at this point. I hate that thing. But since is the Silver Lining thread I will frame my opinion in a different way: we have an owner with an appreciation for the finer things in life (and, more importantly, the money to realize them)... any future banner hanging will be precisely that. A banner hanging. No one is going up there with a bucket of paint and a stencil ever again. There will soon be a dramatically new, durable, satin-y, embroidered-y, bi-coloric physical banner flag secured to the track beam and capable of flapping in the wind. (not to mention capable of being reproduced in miniature and sold as a facsimile in the gift shop)
  13. Bravo Tom, bravo. Dang! Is there a Pulitzer category for mid-day blogging? What is Absolutely KILLING me today is the pitch CC made on Derek there: Bases loaded, one out, the backbone of the Cubs (for better or worse) at-bat, juuuust got the lead, crowd is roaring Jacked, Full. Count., CC laboring with B stuff way past pitch count comfort zone... it was precisely the perfect pitch. Grounder. So instead of 5 - 0 CC talk and stoking the NL Cy Young talk, I have to avoid the "D Lee is so clutchy" articles. If Rickie wants to go to the Bullpen to be a submariner, fine. I have the biggest problem when he drops his arm angle to - not even 3/4 - more like 55/100 on most plays. Hall and Hardy have Guns with a capital G. Hell, when Rickie is the cut-off man and needs to make a throw home, Rickie has a gun too. But his arm mechanics become so fundamentally and fatally flawed when the chips are on the table. Even if that throw was on-line there was so little gas on it the play may have a tie. That throw was a complete diarhea fart out of his hand. Also, he was so stiff on that play the Brewers should consider getting him on Dancing With The Stars. After watching the Sox / A. Ramirez more closely it's like someone turned my 2B-TV from black & white to color - the delta for skill differential is just eye-poppingly evident.
  14. Alexei Ramirez spoils me. What a joy to watch such an artisanally beautiful craftsman practice his trade. "Plug" the young Cuban - and his .309 / .331 / .464 with the Platinum-Glove caliber defense - into the franchise and you can start WS talk. Here is the doubly brutal edge sword on Weeks: 1) for the complete utter lack of offensive production you get... you certainly can be satisfied if he is in the top third of defensive 2B. OR 2) if he is a world beater at the plate (e.g. 2007 3B Braun) you can be satisfied if he is a butcher in the field. We. Get. Neither.
  15. Here here! If we can somehow chase Lilly in the 4th - the series changes big time. Gaudin's gone 2 days in a row and Marshall picked up 3 innings on Saturday in the one that went 12 - limiting the options they have for long relief (Cotts?) Marmol, Cotts and Howry are fresh - and Smardja should get tomight off. Ban all bananas from Wisconsin so Cra-Z gets his cramps tomorrow and then Jekyl-Dempster comes out to play before their 5-inning horse toes up game 4. Is Harden going to get scratched so he can get his beauty rest?
  16. I left the ranks of the undefeated yesterday, big time boo (5 - 1)... 8 - 2 (at Wrigley) Weeks lead-off homer 4 - 3 (at Wrigley) 3 runs off Wood top 9 4 - 3 (vs Cards) Weeks walk-off bases loaded single 5 - 4 (vs Philly) the Turnbow save! Prince fouls off big time Hamels heat until launching his 2nd of the day 3 - 2 (vs Braves) chased Hudson; walk-off sac fly after Billy steals 3rd. 6 - 11 (vs 'Stros) Suppan lays an egg. I also am going Wednesday to re-start the mojo.
  17. The path to the 300,000 homestand: F: 41,357 Sa: 43,489 Su: 41,565 leaving 173,589 to be got over the next four games - a 43,397 average. a quick scan notes: 44,014 - Sunday 6-APR v Giants 44,169 - Saturday 26-APR v Marlins 44,613 - Sunday 1-Jun v Astros If there is any series where the turnstiles will operate like Paris Hilton's pants and push the capacity limits - it's this one. 300K seems in the bag. Anybody got a car up on blocks in their front yard that we could conveniently tow out to - oh, say, a couple of miles short of the 894 / 94 split, and set on fire round about 5:30? Block a couple of FIB lanes with a flipped over turnip truck? I'm not saying... I'm just saying.
  18. i think they should take the jagged edge of their shattered maple bat and stab him in the heart before getting to first. that would be less bad than what Braun did last night.
  19. this thread is great. it should be used as an example in a college rhetoric course to see how much language can be used to describe such a *relatively* small moment in time. i think i have read - definitely skimmed - everything here... and aside from identifying the need for the polling function, so people can just vote and get out, i think we're still missing the point. Braun was rightfully admiring his own handiwork... the way a carpenter tips a rocking chair back and smiles at it before it leaves the shop. Braun did not open his mouth to bark at the pitcher; he did not carry his bat with him around the bases; he did not turn and grin into the Cardinal's dugout; he did not jump up to land on home plate with both feet. Frankly, if Braun did not show that exact type of satisfaction and pride at that precise moment - I would think something was wrong with him. No amount of Ned & Ted meetings is ever going to affect the emotion that is perfectly unbridled at the perfect moment.
  20. totally saw that coming also. so magical. Good gumdrops.
  21. with the obsurdity of that called first strike HOW is Durham taking that 3rd strike?
  22. Durham's range factor exposed there. No impact though, rather than preventing a ball from getting to the outfield to save a run.
  23. Corey Hart's game: just for the snapshot impaired: 1st: 2 outs - runners on 1, 2... SS ground-out 4th: 1 out - runners on 1, 2... 3B ground-out double play bot 4th: error on routine single scores Cardinal 3rd run 5th: 1 out - bases loaded... 2B ground-out (with a lot of english) ekes out fielder's choice RBI 7th: 1 out - runners on 1, 2... SS ground-out double play
