McFarland Smacks Walk-off Double in 12th Brevard County Defeats Tampa in 12, 5-4 By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 08/05/2015 11:39 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/9/4/124065994/cuts/McFarland_7wookl40_gtu38cx0.JPG Chris McFarland, seen here, hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the 12th inning on Wednesday. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, FL - Chris McFarland delivered with a walk-off, two-run double in the bottom of the 12th inning as the Brevard County Manatees (17-20, 46-60 overall) defeated the Tampa Yankees (18-21, 52-57) 5-4 on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. After Tampa took the lead in the top of the 12th inning, Angel Ortega worked a one-out walk in the bottom of the frame. Omar Garcia then singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. McFarland stepped up a drilled a two-run, game-winning double into the right-center field gap. It was McFarland's second walk-off hit of the season. He had a game-winning single on May 12 against Bradenton. It was the sixth walk-off victory of the season for the Manatees. Brevard County originally took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Garcia singled on a liner to right-center field. McFarland then chopped a ball over the left side of the infield for a single. After Clint Coulter loaded the bases with a bloop single to right, Garrett Cooper walked to open the scoring. Robinzon Diaz then reached on a fielder's choice that plated McFarland. Tampa got on the board in the second on an RBI single from Miguel Andujar. Dustin Fowler launched a two-run home run against Brevard County starter Jorge Ortega in the third to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Ortega tossed 6.2 innings and surrendered three runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out four. Brevard County tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Garrett Cooper in the sixth. Cooper finished with three hits, a double, a walk and an RBI. The Brevard County bullpen dominated in the victory. The combination of Stephen Peterson, Kaleb Earls and Trevor Seidenberger allowed just one run on three hits in 5.1 innings. Seidenberger (4-1, 2.63 ERA) was credited with the victory after he recorded the final two outs in the top of the 12th. Luis Niebla (1-5, 3.12 ERA) took the loss after he gave up the McFarland double in the bottom of the 12th inning. The Manatees and Yankees will play the rubber match of the three-game series tomorrow night. RHP Johnny Hellweg (0-3, 9.00 ERA) will get the start for Brevard County. Tampa will send RHP Vicente Campos (1-4, 7.15 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Jorge Ortega went about a week between starts as they are now trying to limit his innings. He wasn't quite as sharp as he usually is ending with: 6.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 9/5 GO/FO. Omar Garcia and Chris McFarland had 2 hits each and Garrett Cooper, as mentioned in the story, was 3-4 (now batting .296). Rafael Neda, Taylor Brennan, Garrett Cooper and Chris McFarland each had a double. Yankee phenom Jorge Mateo stole his 72nd base of the season although this was his first game at this level. Brevard County Game Log Brevard County Bottom of the 12th Michael Ratterree called out on strikes. Angel Ortega walks. Omar Garcia singles on a ground ball to center fielder Dustin Fowler. Angel Ortega to 2nd. Christopher McFarland doubles (18) on a fly ball to center fielder Dustin Fowler. Angel Ortega scores. Omar Garcia scores. -
Ford, Pitching Carry Yankees In Series Opener By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 08/04/2015 10:54 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/4/4/139156544/cuts/Cooper_h0sdk216_58ejopjj.JPG Garrett Cooper hit his 28th double of the season in Tuesday night's loss (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, FL- The Tampa Yankees (18-20, 52-56 overall) rode the strength of two pitchers Monday night to a 4-3 win over the Brevard County Manatees (16-20, 45-60 overall) at Space Coast Stadium. The Yankees would take the lead for good in the game's opening frame against Manatee starting pitcher Javi Salas. As would be the theme of their night, the rally started with two out as Dustin Fowler base hit to right. Mike Ford then hit a double down the right field line and with Fowler running on a 3-2 pitch, he was able to score all the way from first to give Tampa the lead. Miguel Andujar followed with a single to center to bring home Ford. Salas would stop the bleeding by getting Jake Skole to ground out to first. More two-out fortune would come Tampa's way in the top of the third. Tyler Wade led off the inning with a walk but would be erased on a fielder's choice by Abiatal Avelino. He would then swipe second for his 30th stolen base of the season with Fowler at the plate, who would then move him to third on a groundout. Ford continued his banner night at the plate by blasting a 405-foot two-run home run, his second of the season, to make it 4-0. The 'Tees opened their account in the bottom of the fourth against Yankees starting pitcher Cale Coshow, starting with a one-out double to right by Clint Coulter. Garrett Cooper then hit a floater down the right field line that stayed fair to score Coulter and give Cooper his 28th two-bagger of the season. Coshow would limit the damage to just that by striking out Taylor Brennan and inducing flyout from Robinzon Diaz. Brevard County had a chance to draw even in the bottom of the seventh against reliever Gabe Encinas. Cooper reached on an Avelino throwing error to start the inning and then moved up 90 feet when Brennan walked. Following a Diaz flyout, Michael Ratterree drew a free pass to load the bases. Encinas recovered admirably to strike out Dustin Houle and Angel Ortega to end the inning. The Manatees displayed some fight in the bottom of the ninth against Encinas once again with the inning being ignited by a Cooper leadoff base hit to right. He would be pulled for pinch-runner Steven Halcomb, who advanced to second when Brennan walked. Diaz then ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Halcomb for his first RBI as a Manatee. Brennan would come in to score as Andujar made a diving stop on a grounder to retire Ratterree. As the tying run remained at second, Encinas made quick work of a Houle on a strikeout and when Ortega grounded out to third, he earned the 12-out save, his first of the season. Coshow earned his seventh win of the season by giving up just one run on four hits in five innings, striking out four and walking none. The two runs on two hits in the ninth were all that Encinas gave up in four innings of work, during which he struck out six and walked three. Ford recorded the lone multi-hit game for the Yankees. Salas lasted just four innings, giving up four runs on four hits, walking two and striking out one in 89 pitches. Brandon Woodruff was terrific in relief, throwing four shutout innings during which he gave up just one hit. Coulter and Diaz had multi-hit games on the offensive side for Brevard County. The series continues on Wednesday night as RHP Jorge Ortega (8-7, 2.35 ERA) takes the ball against LHP Jordan Montgomery (3-4, 3.38 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. Brevard County Box Score Javi Salas was mainly done in by lack of command. While he only issued two walks, he threw 89 pitches, 51 for strikes in his 4 innings of work. Final line: 4 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 11/2 GO/FO Trevor Seidenberger picthed one scoreless inning and Brandon Woodruff shut out the Yankees on 1 hit over the last 4 innings. Garrett Cooper was back after missing the Jupiter series with a groin injury. He and Robinzon Diaz had 2 hits. Both had doubles along with Clint Coulter. The bottom of the order twice failed to extend rallies which cost the Manatees the game. Brevard County Game Log Brevard County Bottom of the 9th Garrett Cooper singles on a line drive to right fielder Michael O'Neill. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Steven Halcomb replaces Garrett Cooper. Taylor Brennan walks. Steven Halcomb to 2nd. Robinzon Diaz doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Jake Skole. Steven Halcomb scores. Taylor Brennan to 3rd. Michael Ratterree grounds out, third baseman Miguel Andujar to first baseman Mike Ford. Taylor Brennan scores. Dustin Houle strikes out swinging. Angel Ortega grounds out, third baseman Miguel Andujar to first baseman Mike Ford.

One other guy who always flies under the radar is Nathan Orf. He could be a stopgap 3B if there is nobody else short term. Not much power but always has a decent OBP (around .385 last year and .365 this year) and works the opposition pitchers. I really think he's more of a 2B but has played a lot at 3rd also.
-
Coulter's best defensive asset is his arm which is largely wasted at 1B. Brewers have Denson and Perry and a couple others who could eventually fill the 1B spot. Probably Gatewood or Lara could be a 3B. All those guys a quite a bit away from the Brewers though.

Manatees win finale, gain series split in Jupiter August 2, 2015 2:57 PM MST http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/5a/b6/5ab63428817e8b99617343ff4c35f652.jpg?itok=fXTYsiwb Wei-Chung Wang gave up four hits and one earned run Sunday, enroute to his eighth win of the season at Jupiter. Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images The Brevard County Manatees and Jupiter Hammerheads finished their four-game set at Roger Dean Stadium on Sunday. The ‘Tees took an early lead and it held up, with the visitors winning, 5-4. Jupiter starter Luis Castillo (1-1) lasted only 3.1 innings, finding trouble in the third and fourth innings. Angel Ortega singled to start the inning, but was erased on Omar Garcia’s groundout. After Garcia was thrown out attempting to steal third, Clint Coulter lined an RBI single to left, plating McFarland. Taylor Brennan’s RBI double brought Coulter in with the second run. The Manatees (16-19, 45-59 overall) put three more on the board in the fourth inning. Rafael Neda walked with one out and went to second on a wild pitch. Steven Halcomb singled, bringing Neda home and giving the visitors a 3-0 lead. Victor Araujo came in to relieve Castillo and Ortega greeted him with an RBI bunt single. Garcia was then hit by a pitch and went to second on an RBI single by Coulter, bringing Ortega home and making it 5-0. Garcia then swiped third, but was stranded there when Brennan popped out. Garcia’s steal of third was his 41st swiped bag of the season. ‘Tees starter Wei-Chung Wang was helped by double plays in the second and third inning to get him out of trouble, but the Hammerheads did get to him in the fourth. Austin Dean drew a one out walk, moved to second on an Avery Romero single and went to third on an error. Harold Riggins sacrifice fly scored Dean and cut the Manatees lead to 5-1. Wang (8-3) got through seven innings in good shape, but ran into some difficulty in the eighth. Chris Hoo reached on an error by McFarland. One out later Justin Bohn singled, putting runners at first and second. Yefri Perez and Bohn pulled off a double steal and Dean drew a walk to load the bases. That ended the day for Wang, who exited in favor of Preston Gainey. Gainey gave up a single to Romero that hit off Ortega’s glove at short and went into centerfield and allowed Perez to score, making it a 5-2 game. Brian Anderson drew a bases loaded walk, to close the gap to 5-3 and a sacrifice fly by Riggins made it 5-4. Gainey got out of the inning when Blake Barber popped out. Wang -- who has pitched well of late -- continued that trend Sunday. He allowed four hits and only one earned run in 7.1 innings of work. He walked three and struck out five. The Hammerheads (14-24, 49-59 overall) last chance in the bottom of the ninth was done in a hurry, as Gainey sent them down in order and picked up his fifth save. With that, the Manatees got the victory and a split in the four-game series. Ortega, the Manatees ninth place hitter, ended his day 3-for-4. Coulter and Brennan had two hits each, pacing the Manatees 10 hit attack. Jupiter managed only five hits, three of those off the bat of Romero. For more info: Brevard County @ Jupiter boxscore The Manatees will enjoy an off-day Monday before returning home Tuesday, to start a three-game series with the Tampa Yankees. The game is scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Wei-Chung Wang: 7.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 9/6 GO/FO, Game Score=62 Official scoring changed so he has now gone 8 consecutive starts giving up 1 earned run or less. Clint Coulter reached 4 times: 2 singles, 2 walks, 2 RBIs. Taylor Brennan 2-5 with a double. Angel Ortega 3-4. Dustin Houle had his first Manatees double. Brevard County Game Log

Big day for the 2 Jakes. Gatewood 3 hits including a HR, Drossner 9 K's in 5 innings. No word on whether Jack Nicholson is attending.
-
Malik Collywood just got his first Brewers' hit.
-
Wang leaves in the 8th with the bases loaded and one out. He has only given up 1 unearned run to that point. If Preston Gainey can bail him out, it will be the 8th straight game in which Wei-Chung Wang has given up 0 or 1 earned run (one was a 1st inning wash out). Edit. Presto let in all 3 base runners. I don't think they're all earned runs but the streak should be over. Still, one of Wang's better starts this year.

Anderson's Three-Run Homer Guides Hammerheads to Doubleheader Split Jupiter Scores Four in the First in Game Two Victory By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 08/01/2015 10:41 PM ET Jupiter, Fla. - Brian Anderson's first-inning, three-run home run led the Jupiter Hammerheads (14-23, 49-58 overall) to a 4-2 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (15-19, 44-59 overall) in game two of Saturday night's doubleheader at Roger Dean Stadium. Yefri Perez led off the bottom of the first inning with a double down the left field line against Brevard County starter Zach Hirsch. Two batters later, Austin Dean drove home Perez with an RBI single to center field. After an Avery Romero single, Anderson smacked a three-run home run over the left field wall. It was his ninth homer of the season. Hirsch (1-2, 4.24 ERA) settled down after the four-run first. He pitched a six-inning complete game. Hirsch surrendered four runs on eight hits. The Manatees plated a pair of runs in the sixth. With one out, Paul Eshleman reached on a fielding error by right fielder Austin Dean. Steven Halcomb then singled to left field. With two men on, Angel Ortega doubled on a liner to left. Eshleman scored to put the Manatees on the board. After C.J. Robinson replaced starter Chipper Smith, Omar Garcia singled to the opposite field and scored Halcomb. After Garcia was caught stealing, Chris McFarland lined out to right to end the threat. Smith (2-3, 4.66 ERA) earned the win. He allowed two runs - just one earned - on seven hits. He struck out six. Robinson recorded the final five outs to earn his second save of the season. Six-Run Second Leads Manatees to Victory in Game One Sneed Tosses Five Innings to Earn Win By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 08/01/2015 10:39 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/8/2/137927482/cuts/Sneed_2_hrilb634_0y6b75bk.JPG Cy Sneed, seen here from a game earlier this season, earned his third win of the season on Saturday. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Jupiter, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (15-18, 44-58 overall) plated six runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 6-3 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads (13-23, 48-58 overall) in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Roger Dean Stadium. With the score 0-0 after one, Dustin Houle singled to right field to lead off the second inning. After Rafael Neda was hit by a pitch, Steven Halcomb dropped down a bunt. The bunt was fielded by starting pitcher Jose Adames, but his throw was errant. Houle scored, Neda moved to third and Halcomb advanced to second on the error. Angel Ortega then singled on a liner to right field and plated Neda. The next batter, Omar Garcia, reached on a bunt single and scored Halcomb. The Manatees led, 3-0. Chris McFarland then lined a single to center field and plated Ortega. Clint Coulter reached on a throwing error by Brian Anderson at third. Garcia scored on the error and McFarland advanced to second. Adames then hit Taylor Brennan with a pitch to load the bases. Two batters later, Houle lifted a sacrifice fly to center field against reliever Esmerling De La Rosa. Jupiter scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brian Anderson hit a two-run single and Blake Barber recorded an RBI on a sac fly. Brevard County starter Cy Sneed (3-1, 3.09 ERA) earned the win. Manatees win the opener 6-3 with a 6 run 2nd inning. Not the best Manatee outing for Cy Sneed frankly but he did have a big lead. Kaleb Earls worked the last two innings. Omar Garcia stole his 40th base of the season. Manatees had no fewer than 5 batters hit by pitch in this game. Link report after the 2nd game.

Hammerheads Rout Manatees, 10-2 Brevard County Drops First Game in Jupiter By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 07/30/2015 11:06 PM ET Jupiter, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads (13-22, 48-57 overall) smacked 13 hits in a 10-2 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (14-18, 43-58 overall) on Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The Hammerheads scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning against Brevard County starter Brandon Woodruff. Austin Dean opened the scoring with an RBI double down the right field line. Later in the inning, Felix Munoz drilled a two-run triple to right and made it 3-0. Brevard County cut into the Jupiter lead in the third. With two outs, Michael Ratterree singled to left. Rafael Neda then doubled to center. Ratterree came all the way around from first thanks to a fielding error from center fielder Yefri Perez. Jupiter blew the game open with a five-run fourth against reliever Trevor Seidenberger. Munoz, James Roberts and Cameron Flynn singled consecutively to open the frame. Flynn's RBI single gave the Hammerheads a 4-1 advantage. Rodrigo Vigil then walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Seidenberger walked Justin Bohn to force home a run. Dean stepped up and cleared the bases with a double to left field. Dean finished the night with three hits - all doubles - and four RBI. The Manatees scored a run in the top of the fifth when Clint Coulter tripled and Ratterree doubled. The Hammerheads added two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Roberts and Vigil delivered RBI singles. Woodruff (1-5, 4.62 ERA) suffered the loss. He surrendered three runs on four hits and two walks in three innings. He fanned three. Drew Steckenrider (1-3, 3.19 ERA) earned the win. He tossed five innings and allowed two runs - one earned - on seven hits. He struck out six batters. The Manatees and Hammerheads will play game two of the series tomorrow night in Jupiter. RHP Cy Sneed (2-1, 2.67 ERA) will start for Brevard County. Jupiter will send RHP Jose Adames (3-2, 3.11 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Two hits including a double for Michael Ratterree. Clint Coulter had a triple in 4 at bats on his birthday (22). Preston Gainey threw one scoreless inning. That's about it. Brevard County Game Log

And of course the Manatees begin in a rain delay.
-
Yes. The umpire baiting is especially irksome because there are only the two umps and they can't possibly be in position on every play. That's especially true of a lot of the foul/fair calls down the lines.
-
This better disqualify them from the competitive balance lottery. They were already around 6th in total revenues.

Petree, Beach Birds Blank Brevard, 9-0 By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 07/29/2015 11:26 PM ET Viera, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (23-9, 55-47 overall) scored early and often in a 9-0 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (14-17, 43-57 overall) on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Cardinal offense first came to life in the top of the second inning against Manatees starting pitcher Javi Salas. Luke Voit started the inning with a base hit to left and then advanced when Blake Drake hit a tapper back to the mound that Salas fielded, but his throw to first base pulled Taylor Brennan off of the bag, putting two on. Following a Carson Kelly groundout, Derek Gibson brought home both runners with an opposite-field single to left to give Palm Beach a lead they would never relinquish. The surprise of the night would lead off the top of the third as C.J. McElroy took a Salas pitch to the opposite field and into the Palm Beach for his second home run of the season and professional career. The game would be put out of reach the following inning, which was led off by a walk to Voit. Drake singled to right and moved Voit up to second. After Salas uncorked a wild pitch, Kelly plated the fourth run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right field. Gibson followed up with an RBI single to center field that scored Drake. After a Robelys Reyes single, McElroy delivered another run with the second sac fly of the inning. Danny Diekroeger followed up with a single to put runners on the corners. Brett Wiley then doubled to deep center field to score both runs and end Salas' night. Tristan Archer was summoned from the bullpen. After a wild pitch advanced Wiley to third, Collin Radack reached first on a strike out and a wild pitch. Wiley touched home on the play to complete the scoring. Salas (7-7, 3.93 ERA) was saddled with the loss. He surrendered nine runs - seven earned - on eight hits over 3.2 innings. Archer was one of the lone bright spots for the Manatees. He tossed 4.1 scoreless innings and struck out four. Tyler Spurlin pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Nick Petree (3-2, 3.05 ERA) was dominant in the win. He threw seven shutout innings and allowed just one hit. He did not walk a batter and fanned five. The Manatees will head on the road tomorrow to start a four-game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads. RHP Brandon Woodruff (1-4, 4.44 ERA) is scheduled to start for Brevard County. First pitch at Roger Dean Stadium is at 6:35 p.m. ____________________________________ The good news: Javi Salas had a 1-2-3 first inning and averaged 96 MPH in the frame. Everything went downhill from there. Javi failed to get through 4 innings, throwing 80+ pitches in the process. His last good start was June 17th when he went 9 innings. Since then: 6/26 5.1 IP 6 H 4 ER 7/01 5.2 IP 6 H 3 ER 7/07 6.0 IP 9 H 3 ER 7/12 3.2 IP 8 H 3 ER 7/18 4.0 IP 6 H 5 ER 7/29 3.2 IP 8 H 7 ER They skipped his turn last time but the results are still bad. This is Javi's first full professional season and maybe he has hit a wall physically. I'm not watching the games but it seems to me that when he reaches these higher velocity levels, he has a tendency to get the ball up in the strike zone and/or his ball straightens out at higher speeds and he becomes easier to hit. Dustin Houle and Taylor Brennan got singles. Manatees drew zero walks. That's the offense. Brevard County Box Score Brevard County Game Log

Nielsen's Strong Effort Carries Cardinals By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 07/28/2015 10:27 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/9/4/124065994/cuts/McFarland_7wookl40_gtu38cx0.JPG Chris McFarland, seen here from a game earlier this year, collected two hits in Tuesday night's loss. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (22-9, 54-47 overall) continued to display their strength in starting pitching and timely hitting Tuesday night in a 3-1 win over the Brevard County Manatees (14-16, 43-56 overall) at Space Coast Stadium. Palm Beach made the most of a Manatee mistake in the bottom in the fourth as Luke Voit reached base with one out as a would-be flyout was ruled as catcher's interference by Rafael Neda. Voit then moved to third on a double down the left field. Carson Kelly then fouled out on a ball that went deep enough down the right field line that allowed Voit to sprint home with the game's first run. Robelys Reyes led off the following inning with an infield single that was knocked down in the hole by Angel Ortega. After C.J. McElroy lined out to first, Danny Diekroeger hit into a potential double play ball but Chris McFarland bobbled the ball as he attempted to throw to second base, putting two on for Brett Wiley. Wiley brought home Reyes with a base hit to right and moved Diekroeger over to third in the process. Collin Radack would bring him home shortly after that on a sacrifice fly to deep center. The Manatees' best chance to come back came in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Lee Stoppelman. The rally started with a two-out walk to Jose Pena, followed by a base hit to right by Ortega. Omar Garcia then got the Manatees on the board with a double down the left field line to score Pena and move Ortega to third, chasing Stoppelman in the process. Josh Lucas would be called upon to put out the fire and he did just that, striking out McFarland to end the inning. Brevard County's last gasp came with two out in the bottom of the ninth on a Brennan single off of Lucas. He would move to second on a wild pitch but Michael Ratterree popped up to Reyes at short to end the ballgame. Trey Nielsen was outstanding to earn his ninth win of the season for the Cardinals, throwing seven shutout innings, giving up just four hits and walking none. Offensively, Wiley's three-hit game carried the night. Wei-Chung Wang pitched better than the result for the 'Tees, giving up three unearned runs on six hits in six innings, striking out three and walking none. McFarland and Neda each recorded multi-hit games. Garrett Cooper's streak of consecutive games was ended at 12 thanks to an 0-for-4 night at the plate. The series concludes tomorrow night as RHP Javi Salas (7-6, 3.44 ERA) takes to the mound against RHP Nick Petree (2-2, 3.67 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. Brevard County Box Score Decent looking line for Wei-Chung Wang: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K However, he was not sharp. He had almost double the number of pitches versus Nielsen by the 4th inning. He had only thrown 6 pitches in his previous outing due to a rain out and that's been it for the last couple of weeks so maybe that explains his lack of sharpness. Chris McFarland and Rafael Neda had 2 hit nights for the Manatees. Brevard County Game Log

Cooper's Homer Not Enough in Game Two Loss Hirsch Tosses Six Innings in Loss By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 07/27/2015 11:45 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/4/4/139156544/cuts/Cooper_h0sdk216_58ejopjj.JPG Viera, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (21-9, 53-47 overall) scored two runs in the sixth inning in a 2-1 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (14-15, 43-55 overall) in game two of Monday night's doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth inning, Robelys Reyes pushed a bunt single up the first base line with no outs. Brett Wiley then singled to left-center field against Brevard County starter Zach Hirsch. Reyes tried to go to third, but was gunned down by Michael Ratterree. Wiley advanced to second on the throw. Collin Radack tied the score on an RBI double down the left field line. Two batters later, Blake Drake lined an RBI double to right field and gave Palm Beach a 2-1 lead. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - After heavy rain suspended the action on Sunday night, the Brevard County Manatees (14-14, 43-54 overall) made the most of their opportunities in a 4-2 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals (20-9, 52-47) in the completed game on Monday at Space Coast Stadium. The Cardinals took the lead in the top of the third against Stephen Peterson, who took over for Sunday's starting pitcher, Cy Sneed. The inning would be led off by an infield single for Derek Gibson, who then moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Robelys Reyes. C.J. McElroy followed with an opposite-field base hit into right but Gibson was held up at third. He would not have to wait long as Danny Diekroeger's sacrifice fly to center would allow him to sprint home with the game's first run. That margin would stand until a Manatee rally came with two out in the bottom of the sixth against Cardinal reliever Blake McKnight, who had taken over for Sunday starter Rob Kaminsky. Clint Coulter reached after being hit by a McKnight pitch, then advanced another 90 feet on a Garrett Cooper single. Palm Beach would call upon Silfredo Garcia to retire Taylor Brennan but Brennan would respond clubbing a two-run double over Collin Radack's head in left field to put Brevard County ahead. The insurance would come in the bottom of the eighth, once again with two out. Omar Garcia would lead off the inning with an infield single and then promptly took second for his 39th stolen base of the season. Chris McFarland moved Garcia to third on a sacrifice bunt and following a Coulter strikeout, Cooper launched a 422-foot two-run homer over the berm in left field. Preston Gainey gave up a two-out RBI double to Carson Kelly in the top of the ninth but that's as close as the Cardinals would come. Peterson earned his third win of the season by giving up one run on four hits in four and one-third innings of work. Offensively, Cooper extended his streak of consecutive games with a hit to 11 by going three-for-four at the plate. Brennan, who recorded his 20th double of the season and Garcia recorded multi-hit games. Brevard County Box Score The bullpen came through for the Manatees.
