Manatees Defeat Miracle on Cooper Seventh-Inning Homer Wang Tosses Gem; Manatees Win, 4-1 Brevard County Manatees 07/16/2015 11:10 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/4/4/136982844/cuts/IMG_0045_m08px7bp_3p6s12zk.JPG Viera, Fla. - Garrett Cooper's clutch home run led the Brevard County Manatees (9-11, 38-51 overall) to a 4-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle (12-9, 50-41 overall) on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. With the game tied at one in the seventh inning, Cooper stepped to the plate with two on and nobody out. He launched a thee-run home run over the left-center field fence and broke the tie. It was Cooper's fourth home run of the season and gave him 41 RBI. Brevard County starter Wei-Chung Wang (7-2, 4.15 ERA) was brilliant over seven innings to earn the victory. He surrendered just one run on six hits. Wang walked three and struck out one. Wang is now 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in his four second-half starts. The Miracle originally opened the scoring in the first inning. Zack Granite singled up the middle to lead off the game. He then stole second and scored on a Mitch Garver RBI single. Brevard County tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cooper blooped a broken-bat single to left field. Taylor Brennan then lined a single to right field and advanced Cooper to third. Michael Ratterree bounced into an around-the-horn double play, but Cooper scored and tied the game. Preston Gainey tossed the final two innings to earn his second save of the season. Fort Myers starter Ryan Eades (6-2, 3.05 ERA) was hit with the loss. He allowed four runs in 6.1 innings. Eades struck out seven. The Manatees and Miracle will play game three of the four-game series tomorrow night. RHP Tristan Archer (1-3, 4.54 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. Fort Myers will send RHP Mat Batts (3-2, 1.71 ERA) to the hill. Brevard County Box Score Kind of an odd line for Wei-Chung Wang: 7 IP, 6 H, 1R, 3 BB, 1 K but it was effective tonight. An 11/4 GO/FO definitely helped. Clint Coulter, Garrett Cooper and Taylor Brennan all with 2 hits. Cooper's dramatic Home run was the only extra base hit for the Manatees. Preston Gainey gave up one hit and one walk in his 2 innings of work. Brevard County Game Log

It looks like the Manatees are on the edge of a rain storm. May be delayed.

Yes. Check the draft pick discussion 1-5 thread above this one. Tom Haudricourt tweeted yesterday that it still looked good to sign Kirby. Other signings might depend on how much they pay Nathan Kirby. They have @ $200K saved under slot before signing Nathan. If they can apply that to other picks they might sign one or two. If they have to pay all of it to sign Kirby, maybe not.

Manatees Defeat Miracle in Series Opener, 3-1 Brevard County Breaks Tie, Plates a Pair in Eighth Brevard County Manatees 07/15/2015 10:45 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/9/4/124065994/cuts/McFarland_7wookl40_gtu38cx0.JPG Chris McFarland, seen here, delivered the game-winning RBI single in the 8th inning of Wednesday's win. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (8-11, 37-51 overall) received some timely hitting late in the game en route to a 3-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle (12-8, 50-40 overall) on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. With the game tied at one in the bottom of the eighth, Omar Garcia lined a one-out triple to left-center field against Tyler Jay (0-1, 8.10 ERA). With the infield in, Chris McFarland chopped an RBI single over the short stop's head to give Brevard County a 2-1 lead. After a grounder moved up McFarland to second, Garrett Cooper lined a base hit into center that scored McFarland and gave Brevard County a two-run advantage. Trevor Seidenberger, who entered the game in the eighth inning with the score tied, allowed a leadoff single to Alex Swim in the ninth. Seidenberger then retired the next three batters in order to seal the victory. Seidenberger (3-1, 1.35) tossed two shutout innings and fanned three batters to earn the victory. Cy Sneed did not factor into the decision, despite tossing seven strong innings. He surrendered one run on five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out six. Both teams traded runs in the third inning. With runners on the corners and one out, Zack Granite blooped a ball into right field to open the scoring. Tanner Vavra was thrown out at second by right fielder Clint Coulter. Granite was credited with an RBI on the fielder's choice. Brevard County responded in the bottom of the frame. Jose Pena doubled with no outs. Angel Ortega then drilled a single up the middle. Garcia legged out an infield single that scored Pena and tied the game. Miracle starter Chih-Wei Hu was able to escape the jam without any further damage. Hu didn't receive a decision. He allowed one run on seven hits in six innings. The Manatees and Miracle will continue the series tomorrow. LHP Wei-Chung Wang (6-2, 4.38 ERA) will start for Brevard County. Fort Myers will send RHP Ryan Eades (6-1, 2.86 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Brilliant night for Cy Sneed: IP 7, H 5, R 1, 0 BB, 6 K, 7/5 GO/AO, 93 pitches, 66 for strikes. Trevor Seidenberger, back after a tough run at Biloxi, was back to his first half self here. He gave up 1 hit and struck out 3 in 2 innings of work. Omar Garcia 3-4, including the game breaking triple in the 8th. Garrett Cooper and Jose Pena with 2 hits each, both including a double. Don't run on Clint Coulter! 3rd inning: With runners on 1st and 3rd, Zach Granite lines a ball over Chris McFarland, Clint Coulter throws to 2nd for the force out on the baserunner from 1st. 4th inning: After a two base throwing error on Taylor Brennan, Alex Swim hits a ball over Clint Coulter's head off the wall, the runner on 2nd had to be held at 3rd after Coulter's throw although the batter got a double on the play. 6th inning: Alex Swim bloops a hit between Chris McFarland and Clint Coulter. He is thrown out by Clint trying to take 2nd. Brevard County Game Log Critical 4th inning: Fort Myers Top of the 4th Mitch Garver reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Taylor Brennan. Mitch Garver to 2nd. Alex Swim doubles (10) on a fly ball to right fielder Clint Coulter. Mitch Garver to 3rd. T. J. White strikes out swinging. Jason Kanzler strikes out swinging. Brett Doe flies out to right fielder Clint Coulter. Coulter held the runner to 3rd on the double and Cy Sneed struck out the next 2 hitters with men on 2nd and 3rd to preserve the tie. Cy Sneed threw low 90's most of the game but was able to dial it up to the mid-90's when he got in trouble. Impressive performance. -

Rattlers game at Beloit suspended by rain By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 07/13/2015 10:47 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/9/8/136609598/cuts/Beloit_July_13_WEB_vuuc31u2_o2ke6yzi.jpg The struggle to get the tarp on Pohlman Field before the rain started on Monday night. BELOIT, WI - A severe thunderstorm hit Pohlman Field just before the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were to take their turn at bat in the top of the fifth inning on Monday night. The game between the Timber Rattlers and the Beloit Snappers was suspended with the score tied 2-2. Wisconsin (29-59 overall, 6-12 second half) scored in the top of the first. Blake Allemand doubled with one out. Dustin DeMuth followed with an RBI single and the Rattlers were up 1-0. Monday marked the fifth straight game the Rattlers have scored first. Elvis Rubio put Wisconsin up 2-0 with a solo home run with one out in the top of the fourth inning against Beloit starting pitcher Joey Wagman. The Rattlers got a double from Greg McCall and Sthervin Matos drew a walk to knock Wagman out of the game. Mike Fagan entered from the Snappers bullpen and struck out the next two batters to keep Wisconsin's lead at 2-0. Beloit (34-54, 8-10) took advantage of a pair of Rattlers miscues in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Wisconsin starter Luis Ortega got the first out in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Sandber Pimentel singled. Then, Ortega couldn't handle a grounder back to the mound off the bat of Iolana Akau. Jose Brizuela followed with a single to load the bases with one away and storm clouds swirling around the stadium. Ortega got Justin Higley to send a sharp grounder to second. Wisconsin got the force at second, but the throw to first was high. Instead of an inning-ending double play, Higley picked up an RBI as Pimentel scored Beloit's first run. Argenis Raga knocked in the tying run with a single before Ortega could get the final out of the inning. Fagan went out for the top of the fifth, but as he was throwing his warm-up pitches, there was a conference between Beloit's grounds keeper and the umpiring crew. The decision was made to clear the playing field and put the tarp on the field. The grounds crew got the tarp unrolled, but a sudden strong gust of wind started blowing the tarp off the field. Players from both teams assisted in getting the tarp down in its proper position. There was a brief lull before a deluge hit the stadium and the game was officially suspended after a delay of approximately 45 minutes. The game will have to be picked up in the top of the fifth inning when Beloit comes to the Fox Cities for a series that begins on August 27. The Timber Rattlers are off on Tuesday. They return to action at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Wednesday night against the Quad Cities River Bandits. Kodi Medeiros (4-2, 4.09) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Joshua James (2-1, 2.47) is scheduled to start for the River Bandits. Game time is 7:05pm. Wednesday is Ladies' Night presented by Avenue Jewelers and a WIXX Bang for Your Buck Night. Tickets are available for $5 in a special section for the ladies (Limited to the first 200 to order through this link). There will also be Barefoot Wine samples, drink specials for the ladies, and a diamond dig in the beach. Everyone can enjoy Cher-Make hotdogs and Pepsi products for $1 and those of legal drinking age can have Miller beer for $1 during the game as part of WIXX Bang for Your Buck Night! McFarland, Cooper Homers Lead Manatees Over Stone Crabs Ortega Tosses Gem in 3-2 Victory over Charlotte By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 07/13/2015 2:03 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/9/4/124065994/cuts/McFarland_7wookl40_gtu38cx0.JPG Chris McFarland, seen here from a game earlier this season, recorded two hits, including a home run, in Monday's victory in Charlotte. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Port Charlotte, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (7-11, 36-51 overall) used a combination of good pitching and powerful bats in a 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs (7-12, 52-37 overall) on Monday morning at Charlotte Sports Park. Trailing 2-1 in the top of the 5th inning, Chris McFarland stepped to the plate with one out and launched a solo home run over the left field fence and tied the game at two. It was McFarland's third homer of the season and his second in the last five games. Two batters later, Garrett Cooper smacked a solo homer to the opposite field and gave the Manatees a 3-2 lead. Like McFarland, it was Cooper's third home run of the season. Jorge Ortega (8-5, 2.16 ERA) tossed eight innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs - one earned - on seven hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out five. Kaleb Earls entered the game in the ninth inning with a one-run advantage. He retired the side in order to earn his fourth save of the season. Charlotte originally took the lead in the bottom of the first against Ortega. Andrew Velazquez led off the game with a triple to right field. Pat Blair then lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Velazquez. Brevard County tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Taylor Brennan walked. Two batters later, Rafael Neda walked as well. The next batter, Jose Pena, grounded a single through the left side and scored Brennan. The Stone Crabs grabbed the lead right back in the bottom half of the frame. Mike Marjama lined a double to left field with no outs. After Ortega retired the next two batters, Maxx Tissenbaum reached on a fielding error by Cooper. Marjama scored on the play. Buddy Borden (8-4, 2.65 ERA) was hit with the loss. He surrendered three runs on six hits. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Brevard County. The Manatees committed four errors in the win. McFarland and Cooper each recorded two hits. Tomorrow is a league-wide off day in the Florida State League. The Manatees return home on Wednesday to start a four-game series with the Fort Myers Miracle. RHP Cy Sneed (1-1, 4.09 ERA) will start for the Manatees. The Miracle will send RHP Chih-Wei Hu (5-2, 2.26 ERA) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Sorry for harping on the errors but the Stone Crabs' announcer was constantly bringing it up and it was annoying me. An unnamed Manatee even dropped a routine popup in this one. Ortega probably threw enough outs for 10 innings with a better defense behind him. He gave up a triple to start the game and then a sac. fly to the 2nd hitter and never gave up another earned run in this game. Final line: 8 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB (natch), 5 K, 9/10 GO/FO, 96 pitches, 75 for strikes Chris McFarland and Garrett Cooper both had 2 hits including the home runs. Kaleb Earls the 1-2-3 ninth although it seemed as if he was throwing in the 'pen since about the 6th inning. Brevard County Game Log Here you go: Brevard County Top of the 5th Omar Garcia flies out to right fielder Yoel Araujo. Christopher McFarland homers (3) on a fly ball to left field. Clint Coulter flies out to center fielder Braxton Lee. Garrett Cooper homers (3) on a fly ball to right field. Taylor Brennan strikes out swinging.

Manatees win. McFarland and Cooper with solo home runs in the 5th for the tying and lead runs. Jorge Ortega goes 8 with 96 pitches/75 strikes. Kaleb Earls worked a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. I will link the story later.

Another comedy of errors by the Manatees today. I don't know how many errors they have in this 4 game series but it could easily be over 20 with an unfriendly scorer.

Wisconsin's rally falls short at Beloit By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 07/12/2015 6:38 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/1/4/122396014/cuts/5_Apr4_LEAL_qr0vecul_bwg42pla.jpg Carlos Leal went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI for the Rattlers on Sunday at Beloit. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica) BELOIT, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers fell just short at Pohlman Field on Sunday afternoon. The Rattlers rallied from a 6-1 deficit to get to within a run, but could not get completely over the hill as they lost 6-5 to the Snappers. Wisconsin (29-59 overall, 6-12 second half) took the lead with a two-out rally in the top of the first. Dustin DeMuth doubled to get into scoring position. Carlos Leal followed with a single to drive in DeMuth for a 1-0 lead. This was the fourth straight game in which the Rattlers have scored first. Beloit (34-54, 8-10) scored the next six runs to build a lead. The Snappers tied the game in the bottom of the first when Rattlers starting pitcher Devin Williams threw a wild pitch with two outs and the bases loaded. They took the lead on an unearned run in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Trent Gilbert. The Snappers put some distance between themselves and the Rattlers with a pair of runs - one unearned - against Williams in the fourth inning. Yairo Munoz reached on an error to start the inning. Argenis Raga followed with a one out single. James Harris was next and his single scored Munoz. Gilbert picked up his second RBI of the game with a single to send Raga in for a 4-1 lead. Tyler Linehan came on for Wisconsin in the bottom of the fifth and got the first two outs. An infield single by Munoz extended the inning to Justin Higley, who hit a two-run home run to center and the Snappers had a 5-1 lead. Brett Graves, Beloit's starting pitcher was cruising through five innings, but the Rattlers rallied in the sixth. DeMuth started the top of the sixth with a single. Leal, who had three hits on Sunday and is 8-for-14 in this series with the Snappers, lined a double to right-center and DeMuth scored. Elvis Rubio singled and moved Leal to third. Alan Sharkey doubled to right and Leal scored as Rubio took third base. The double by Sharkey knocked Graves out of the game and Kevin Johnson took over on the mound. Mitch Meyer and Tucker Neuhaus each picked up RBI grounders to score Rubio and Sharkey respectively to pull the Rattlers to within a run. Johnson got the final out of the sixth and worked a 1-2-3 seventh. Jose Torres was called from the Beloit bullpen to start the top of the eighth inning and hit Leal to start the frame, but he got a 6-4-3 double play and a grounder to third to maintain the lead. The Rattlers looked primed to at least tie the game in the top of the ninth against Torres. Meyer drew a leadoff walk and Neuhaus singled to left for runners at first and second with no outs. But, Meyer was caught stealing third for the first out. Torres got a grounder to third and a strikeout to end the game. Wisconsin is 2-5 at Pohlman Field this season. All five of their losses in Beloit have been by one run. The final game of the series is Monday night at Pohlman Field. Luis Ortega (1-7, 5.34) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Joey Wagman (3-2, 2.87) is set to start for the Snappers. Game time is 7:00pm. Catch the radio broadcast of the game on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 1:40pm. The broadcast may also be heard on Tune In Radio and IHeartRadio. Manatees commit four errors in loss to Charlotte July 12, 2015 3:21 PM MST http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/31/84/3184b1fe36e99681113be0ccb7b00489.JPG?itok=YTscFNeN Javi Salas was the hard-luck losing pitcher in the Manatees 8-3 loss to the Stone Crabs on Sunday. Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography (used with permission) The Brevard County Manatees struggled in the field for the second consecutive day, helping the Charlotte Stone Crabs pick up an 8-3 win in game three of the series at Charlotte Sports Park. Four of the eight Charlotte runs were unearned. Brevard County (6-11, 35-51) committed three errors in the early going Sunday and ended the day with four. This after two errors on Saturday and three on Friday. Sunday’s issues led to an early exit for normally reliable starter Javi Salas. Salas allowed six runs in 3.2 innings Sunday, three runs were unearned. After Salas struck out the side in the first, the Stone Crabs offense got going, with three straight two-run innings. Mike Marjama singled to start the second and moved to second one out later, when Jace Conrad walked. Pat Blair’s single loaded the bases for catcher Armando Araiza, who lined a two-run single to left, giving the home team an early 2-0 lead. Kean Wong started the Charlotte third with a walk. Willy Adames followed with a swinging bunt that Salas fielded in front of the plate, he threw wide of first, allowing Wong to score, giving the Stone Crabs a 3-0 lead. Marjama hit a fielders’ choice that turned into a double play after he tried to get to second, while Adames was in a rundown. It looked as if the Manatees may get out of the inning, but Salas hit Granden Goetzman with a pitch and Goetzman proceeded to steal second. Brevard catcher Paul Eshleman threw down, but high and the ball ended up getting away, allowing Goetzman to move to third. Conrad was then hit by a pitch and stole second. Blair came up with another hit, scoring Goetzman to make it 4-0. Conrad tried to score as well, but he was gunned down at the plate on a great throw by Clint Coulter in right, ending the inning. Brevard County broke through on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, against Stone Crabs starter Brent Honeywell. Christopher McFarland led off with a single and Coulter followed with a ground-rule double, putting runners at second and third. Garrett Cooper’s sacrifice fly scored McFarland, making it 4-1. Taylor Brennan’s groundout scored Coulter, cutting the deficit to two. The Stone Crabs (7-11, 52-36) answered with two more tallies in the fourth. Both runs scored after a leadoff single was erased on a double play. Braxton Lee hit a grounder to Angel Ortega at short that should’ve ended the inning. Instead, Ortega’s throw was wild and Lee reached. A double by Wong put runners at second and third and Marjama brought them home with a two-run single, giving Charlotte a commanding 6-2 lead. That ended the night for Salas, who gave up eight hits, walked three and struck out four in his 3.2 innings of work. Preston Gainey was called on to pick up for Salas and he did an admirable job. The Manatees cut the lead in half, with a run in the top of the seventh. Michael Ratterree stroked a one out double to left and after a walk to Eshleman, Honeywell’s day was done. He was replaced by Josh Kimborowicz, who immediately gave up an RBI single to Steven Halcomb, making it 6-3. The run was charged to Honeywell, but he pitched his longest game of the season, in his fourth start. He went 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, walked one and struck out six. His day included a stretch where he retired eight in a row. The final two runs came in the Charlotte half of the seventh inning. Marjama drew a one out walk and went to third on a Goetzman double. After the second out was made, Gainey threw a wild pitch with Blair at the plate. The ball got away, allowing Marjama to score. Goetzman was right behind him and Eshleman flipped the ball to Gainey, but it sailed on him, giving the Manatees their fourth error of the game and giving the Stone Crabs their eighth run. Gainey was lifted after issuing a walk to Blair. Mark Williams finished the game, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing two hits. Brevard County had 10 hits, getting Multi-hit games from Omar Garcia (2-for-5), Coulter (2-for-4 w/a double) and Ratterree (2-for-4). Charlotte had 12 hits on the day, including two hits each from Wong, Adames, Marjama, Blair and Armando Araiza. Marjama and Araiza also knocked in two runs each. The Manatees will look to avoid the sweep Monday, when they send their ace, Jorge Ortega (7-5, 2.25 ERA) to the mound. He will be opposed by Buddy Borden (8-3, 2.48 ERA). Note the early start time of 10:00 a.m. Brevard County Box Score If you listened to this whole game, congratulations you are an extreme Brewer fan (or possibly a relative of a player). The Stoned Crabs and ManatEEEEs set baseball back a couple of generations here. Brevard County Game Log Example: Stoned Crabs run into 3 outs on the bases and ManatEEEEs do their thing in the 3rd: Charlotte Bottom of the 3rd Kean Wong walks. Willy Adames singles on a ground ball to pitcher Javier Salas. Kean Wong scores. Willy Adames to 2nd. Throwing error by pitcher Javier Salas. Stone Crabs Rout Manatees, 12-2 Charlotte Smacks 16 Hits in Victory By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 07/11/2015 10:33 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/9/8/131575198/cuts/Brennan_3_j2quqccs_x7k3c19f.JPG Taylor Brennan, seen here from a game earlier this year, collected two hits in Saturday's loss. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Port Charlotte, Fla. - The Charlotte Stone Crabs' (6-11, 51-36 overall) offense dominated in a 12-2 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (6-10, 35-50 overall) on Saturday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The Charlotte offense got off to a hot start and plated six runs in the second inning against Brevard County starter Eric Marzec. With one out in the second, Jace Conrad singled to left field. Pat Blair then reached on an infield single. After Conrad and Blair executed a double steal, Maxx Tissenbaum lined out to short stop. Yoel Araujo stepped up and singled home a pair to open the scoring and gave Charlotte a 2-0 advantage. Braxton Lee then reached on a bunt single and Andrew Velazquez walked to load the bases. Kean Wong singled home two more runs on a grounder into right field. Velazquez moved to third and Wong went to second on the throw. Mike Marjama lined a two-run single into right field to complete the second-inning scoring. Charlotte scored six runs on six hits in the frame. The Stone Crabs tacked on three more runs in the fourth against Marzec. Granden Goetzman recorded an RBI single to score Velazquez. Later in the inning, Blair singled home a pair and gave Charlotte a 9-0 lead. Blair's single ended Marzec's night. Marzec (1-8, 5.96 ERA) took the loss. He surrendered nine runs on 11 hits and a walk over 3.2 innings. He struck out two. Stephen Peterson came on in relief and stopped the bleeding. Peterson tossed 3.1 scoreless innings and recorded four strikeouts. The Manatees broke the shutout in the top of the eighth when Cameron Garfield singled home Taylor Brennan. Charlotte responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame against new reliever Tyler Spurlin. Jace Conrad recorded an RBI infield single that scored Wong. Spurlin then walked Wong to force home a run. With the bases still loaded, Tissenbaum bounced into a double play, but scored Goetzman in the process. After eight innings, Charlotte led, 12-1. Only one of the three runs charged to Spurlin was earned due to a Garrett Cooper throwing error. Angel Ortega and Omar Garcia recorded back-to-back doubles in the ninth to complete the scoring. Stone Crabs rally in eighth, take series opener from ‘Tees July 10, 2015 10:38 PM MST http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/80/37/80373aeb961709f2438e95b7b5b2f456.JPG?itok=LHJ2gS1u Clint Coulter went 2-for-5 with a double in Friday's 6-4 loss to Charlotte. Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography (used with permission) The Brevard County Manatees, fresh off a series win in Tampa on Thursday, traveled to Port Charlotte on Friday to start a four-game series with the Stone Crabs. In a see-saw game, Charlotte would snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, beating Brevard County, 6-4. The Stone Crabs (5-11, 50-36) struck early, scoring twice in the bottom of the first against Manatees starter Wei-Chung Wang. Andrew Velazquez led off with a double and Kean Wong followed with a triple. Three pitches into the game and just like that, Charlotte was up 1-0. Willy Adames was next up and he rolled one to third that eluded Manatees third baseman Steven Halcomb, rolling through his legs. The two-base error scored Wong and put Charlotte up 2-0. Wang did settle down after the error and retired the next three batters in order, meaning only one run was earned in the inning. Stone Crabs starter German Marquez pitched well and made that lead stand up. He allowed a walk in the first inning to Taylor Brennan and another to Michael Ratterree in the second, before giving up his first hit to Omar Garcia, who singled in the third. Garcia stole second, his 31st steal of the season, but was stranded there after Chris McFarland struck out and Brennan grounded out. Brevard County (6-9, 35-49) threatened again in the top of the fifth, with Angel Ortega and Garcia hitting back-to-back singles, with two out. While at second, Ortega tried to bait Marquez into a bad play, as he danced off the bag. Marquez threw back to second once and Ortega just got back. He did it again immediately and the second time was the charm, as Ortega didn’t beat the tag. He was called out by the base umpire Kirk Struble, ending the inning. Wang recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fifth, but with a 1-1 count on McFarland in the top of the sixth, home plate umpire Ryan Benson called for the tarp. After a one hour, 18 minute delay, the game resumed. The delay caused both starters to end their night early. Marquez threw 73 pitches over five innings of work. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four. He was replaced by Jeff Ames. McFarland’s at bat ended in a groundout, but Brennan reached on an error and went to third on a double by Clint Coulter. After Cameron Garfield popped out, Michael Ratterree walked, loading the bases. That would be where the rally ended though, as Rafael Neda flied out. Wang was replaced in the top of the seventh by Tristan Archer. Wang went five innings, throwing 59 pitches. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, struck out three and walked none. Archer kept the Stone Crabs off the board in the sixth and the Manatees offense got rolling in the top of the seventh. Halcomb and Ortega drew back-to-back walks and moved up 90-feet on a ball back to the mound by Garcia. That brought McFarland up, who promptly dropped one into left-centerfield for a double, bringing both runners home and tying the game at two. That was the end of the night for Ames. Brennan welcomed reliever Edwin Fierro with a double of his own, scoring McFarland and giving the Manatees a 3-2 lead. Clint Coulter singled, moving Brennan to third. Cameron Garfield reached on an error, scoring Brennan and putting the visitors up, 4-2. All the work Brevard County did in the seventh to take the lead, was erased in the bottom of the eighth. After Archer issued a one out walk to Wong, Adames hit a slow roller to McFarland at second. He charged the ball, but it got by him. Coulter, who was backing up on the play, over ran the ball, allowing Wong to score and getting Adames to third. What should have been a double play, instead turned into a two-error, run scoring play and made it a one run game. Trevor Seidenberger came out of the pen for the Manatees, but things went from bad to worse. After Granden Goetzman tied the score with a sacrifice fly, Seidenberger proceeded to walk the bases loaded. Jace Conrad made him pay, with an infield single, allowing two runs to score and giving the Stone Crabs a 6-4 lead. Seidenberger’s night came to an end after the single. He was credited with 0.1 inning, allowing two runs on one hit and walking three. Mark Williams came in to stop the bleeding, getting Yoel Araujo on strikes. The Manatees had one last chance in the ninth, but Isaac Gil retired the side in order, striking out two, including Coulter to end the game and earn the save. Coulter had two hits on the night for Brevard County, as did Garcia. Velazquez and Conrad led the six-hit attack for the Stone Crabs, with two each. For more info: Brevard County @ Charlotte boxscore The series continues Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Manatees will send Eric Marzec (1-7, 4.72) to the mound, against Charlotte hurler Steve Ascher (5-0, 1.83). Brevard County Box Score Trevor Seidenberger was fantastic in the first half but struggled after promotion to Biloxi and really had a bad night here. Wang was okay except for the start of the game. Critical extra base hit by Chris McFarland for the 2nd game in a row. Brevard County Game Log

DSL Brewers outfielder Estades suspended Former Royals prospect tests positive for Nandrolone, out 72 games By Danny Wild / MiLB.com 07/10/2015 5:15 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/0/2/135939302/cuts/Estades_esiu87o5_w7nrx4qq.jpg Ariel Estades has hit .242 with 25 RBIs and 31 steals in 96 career Minor League games. (Burlington Royals) Brewers Minor League outfielder Ariel Estades was suspended for 72 games on Friday after testing positive for a banned steroid. The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball said Estades received a 72-game suspension without pay after testing positive for metabolites of Nandrolone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension is effective immediately. Estades, 21, was originally drafted by the Royals in the 17th-roundof the 2012 Draft out of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and spent parts of three seasons in Kansas City's system before being released last July. He signed with the Brewers in February and was hitting .269 with six RBIs, 15 stolen bases and a .374 on-base percentage in 78 at-bats over 25 games in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League this season. The lefty-hitting outfielder spent his first two seasons in the Arizona League and DSL with the Royals before getting nine at-bats over four games last summer with Rookie-level Burlington. Nandrolone, commonly sold as Deca-Durabolin, is an anabolic steroid used to promote muscle growth, bone density and red blood cell production. It's considered a Schedule III controlled substance. Major League Baseball has issued 70 suspensions to 69 players this year for violating the Minor League drug program. MLB handed out 60 in both 2014 and 2013. -
I showed this thread to a friend of mine who is a Mets fan. He went ballistic. Remember that this organization once gave a contract to Bobby Bonilla.

Taylor Williams update? -- Latest: Tommy John surgery
WV Brew replied to Madhawk23's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Directly from the Transactions thread: One of the top prospects in the chain, RHP Taylor Williams, is listed (for extended spring training rehab purposes) on Helena's roster on his player page, but not on Helena's actual roster. Again, this is just a technical oversight that will get corrected. On May 30th, Adam McCalvy wrote: Gord Ash had less encouraging news about another hard-throwing prospect, Taylor Williams, who received a platelet-rich plasma injection last week in an effort to treat a right forearm strain that has sidelined him since the end of Spring Training. Williams is in a mandatory shut-down period that follows such treatment. Asked whether he believed Williams would pitch this season, Ash responded, "I do." Williams pitched in his first Major League camp this spring and drew raves at the start from established hitters like Ryan Braun and Carlos Gomez. It is impossible to know whether doing too much, too soon contributed to his injury. You can use the search box at the upper right to search for players/items. -

(Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Tampa, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (5-8, 34-48) scored four runs in each of the first two innings and never looked back in a 10-2 victory over the Tampa Yankees (7-6, 41-42) on Wednesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The Brevard County offense established their dominance early in the first inning. Chris McFarland led off the game with a single to left field against Tampa starter Vicente Campos (0-2, 13.50 ERA). After McFarland stole second, Taylor Brennan walked. Two batters later, Garrett Cooper smacked a ground-rule double over the right-center field wall that plated McFarland and opened the scoring. Cameron Garfield then reached on an infield single that scored Brennan. Two batters later, Rafael Neda drove home a pair with a double to center. Brevard County led after one inning, 4 -0. The Yankees scored a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Mike Ford, but Brevard County's offense went right back to work in the second frame. Omar Garcia and McFarland singled consecutively to start the frame. The two then executed a double steal with Brennan at the plate. Brennan walked to load the bases. He throws the basic 4 pitches: fastball, curveball, slider and changeup. Speed generally in the low 90's (fastball). As you point out, his best feature is his control, command. He can spot all 4 pitches which makes him tough to barrel up on. We'll have to see if he can keep up the pace he's on. He also is not really a groundball pitcher either. Unique combination of skills as far as the Brewers organization is concerned.
