  1. I think it's unlikely that all of Medeiros, Burkhalter and Ventura get promoted to A+ at the start of next year. Sneed is likely to start at A+ next year after being pushed up this year. I could see Wang back also. Woodruff has not exactly screamed promotion either although he might be a guy, like Magnifico, that is really targeted toward the bullpen. Hirsch is another guy who was promoted from the T-Rats this year who might be a starter next year. Also, AA guys might not get promoted who otherwise deserve it because they want to save them from Colorado Springs prison. That could prevent someone like Salas form moving up.
  2. Manatees rained out again. No word yet on a makeup date.
  3. Yes, there is. Virginia will only issue passes to Virginia addresses. If you know somebody living in Virginia you could try to get around it that way but you're inconveniencing someone else then.
  4. Rough night for Nash Walters. Why is J. B. Kole listed as the H-Crew catcher? He hasn't gone Leal on us has he?
  5. Manatees Take Game Two, Sweep Doubleheader Brevard County Defeats Tampa, 3-2 By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 07/22/2015 12:54 AM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/5/4/137928454/cuts/Brennan_4_hrste3vs_bzzmgk4t.JPG Viera, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (12-13, 41-53 overall) scored three times in the second inning en route to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Yankees (12-13, 46-49 overall) in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Garrett Cooper lined a single to right field to lead off the inning. Taylor Brennan then drilled a double down the right field line. Cooper scored on the Brennan double and tied the game at one. Jose Pena lined a base hit up the middle and plated Brennan. Rafael Neda stepped up and singled through the right side. After a Steven Halcomb sacrifice bunt, Angel Ortega recorded an RBI with a grounder to short. Zach Hirsch (1-0, 3.60 ERA) earned the win in his Brevard County debut. He tossed five innings and allowed two runs on five. Hirsch did not walk a man and struck out one. He unofficially threw 79 pitches and 54 for strikes. Eric Wooten (0-2, 3.14 ERA) took the loss for Tampa. He lasted just four innings in his spot start and gave up three runs on six hits. Preston Gainey tossed two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh to earn his third save of the year. Brevard County will start a four-game series with the St. Lucie Mets tomorrow night. LHP Wei-Chung Wang (7-2, 4.15 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Manatees. The Mets will send RHP Rob Whalen (4-5, 3.39 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 in St. Lucie. Game 2 Box Score Between Hirsch and Gainey, only 1 strike out. However, neither issued a walk. Rafael Neda was 2-2. Game 2 Game Log
  6. Sneed's Complete Game Propels 'Tees to Game One Win Five-Run Fourth Inning the Difference to Start Doubleheader By Jerry Durney / Brevard County Manatees 07/22/2015 12:50 AM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/8/2/137927482/cuts/Sneed_2_hrilb634_0y6b75bk.JPG Viera, Fla. - For the third consecutive start, Cy Sneed would go seven innings but this time, it would be all that was required as he earned the first complete game of his professional career to give the Brevard County Manatees (11-13, 40-53 overall) a 5-2 win over the Tampa Yankees (12-12, 46-48 overall) Tuesday in Game One of a doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium. The game would be rather uneventful following a one hour, 24 minute rain delay until the fourth inning when the Yankees seized the initiative with two out in the top half of the inning. Dustin Fowler was the first Yankee to reach with a flare to left field. Mike Ford followed with a double that went over Omar Garcia's head in center to plate the first run for Tampa. Ford would then come home on a double by Dante Bichette Jr. Sneed would escape further damage when he induced a groundball forecout at second from Miguel Andujar. The Manatee response in the bottom half of the inning began with a leadoff walk to Chris McFarland. He would move to third with some aggressive baserunning on a single by Clint Coulter, who would advance to second on the throw. Garrett Cooper followed with a base hit knocked down on the edge of the outfield grass by Tyler Wade at shortstop. Wade had no play at any base, which allowed McFarland to score to bring the Manatees within one. After Taylor Brennan struck out, Michael Ratterree pushed a sacrifice bunt up the first base line that ended with all runners safe and Coulter scoring to tie the game. Following a Jose Pena flyout, Paul Eshleman worked a walk to load the bases for Angel Ortega. Ortega would flick a base hit up the middle into center to plate two runs and give Brevard County the lead. Omar Garcia followed with a chopper to short that he was able to beat out, allowing Eshleman to score the final run of the inning. The infield single chased Yankee starter Gabe Encinas. Reliever Chris Smith would get a flyout from Chris McFarland to end the frame. Tampa's best and last chance to get back in the game in the top of the seventh with Sneed aiming for the complete game. The inning started with a walk to Bichette, followed by an Andujar base hit. Sneed then coaxed a grounder to third that Brennan took to the bag for the forceout and when Kyle Higashioka then hit a line drive to Brennan, he doubled Andujar off at second to seal the win. Sneed gave up just the two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking one on 89 pitches, 66 of them for strikes to earn the first complete game of his professional career. Offensively, Cooper had the 'Tees lone multi-hit game, extending his hitting streak to seven consecutive games. Box Score Game 1 Cy Sneed had issued a walk in his first inning of work for the Manatees and the walk in the 7th here was his first since then, a span of around 24 innings. Final line: 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 8/4 GO/FO The critical play in the Manatees' 4th: With Chris McFarland at first after a walk, Clint Coulter lined a single to left, Chris McFarland went to 3rd and the throw was off line. On the throw, Clint Coulter went to second. At the time, the Manatees trailed 2-0 so this put the tying run at 2nd. Many times this year, aggressive base running has backfired on the Manatees but this time it worked. Game Log Game 1
  7. Manatees win game 1 5-2. Cy Sneed went the distance. Manatees scored all 5 runs in the 4th, mainly with small ball. The big hit was a bases loaded two out single by Angel Ortega that gave the Manatees the lead. I will link this game with the second game later. Probably in the morning.
  8. Shocking I know but tarp is on at Space Coast although they are still (so far) going as scheduled. Update: They have now gone to delay. Still expect to get both games in. Need one storm cell to go through first. 6:09 ET. Still haven't started although the radar looks clear to me. Field may be in bad shape though.
  9. I don't like the hotel in the middle of the driving area. It really has taken out the possibility of going for birdie on the road hole. I wish they would simply go to a dead ball rather than constantly lengthening courses. Seems like that would be easier and then courses would be comparable to the way they played in the past.
  10. I don't know how it works there but all the states out here in the Mid-Atlantic are now charging monthly fees, even if you don't use the pass. That changes the situation completely and is why I don't have one. When I drive out to Wisconsin, I just avoid all tolls even though it takes longer. I guess being retired helps with that.
  11. Manatees postponed due to rain.
  12. Jordan Niebrugge, from Mequon, finishes tied for 6th with top amateur score at the British Open. Congratulations!
  13. Campos, Yankees Blank Manatees in Series Opener Tampa Defeats Brevard County, 2-0 By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 07/19/2015 11:13 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/7/0/121863170/cuts/SM2_1672a_XL_zp906qhc_qgc4c8jd.jpg Jorge Ortega, seen above from a game earlier this year, pitched six innings in Sunday's loss. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Viera, Fla. - Vicente Campos, Chaz Hebert and Alex Smith combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Tampa Yankees (12-11, 46-47 overall) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (10-12, 39-53 overall) 2-0 on Sunday night at Space Coast Stadium. Campos (1-3, 8.04 ERA) tossed five shutout innings to earn the victory. He allowed just three hits and one walk. Campos struck out six. Hebert tossed three frames. He surrendered four hits and struck out two. Alex Smith retired the side in order, including two strike outs, in the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season. Tampa plated the only two runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning against Jorge Ortega. Mike Ford led things off with a single to right field. Two batters later, Miguel Andujar doubled into the right field corner and advanced Ford to third. With Jake Skole batting, Rafael Neda couldn't handle an Ortega pitch. Ford scored on the passed ball and Andujar advanced to third. Skole then singled back through the box and gave the Yankees a two-run advantage. Ortega (8-6, 2.21 ERA) was hit with the loss. He gave up two runs on eight hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out four. Trevor Seidenberger threw three shutout relief innings. He allowed just two hits and two walks. He fanned one. Brevard County and Tampa will continue the series tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. RHP Cy Sneed (1-1, 3.00 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Manatees. RHP Gabe Encinas (2-3, 3.23 ERA) will get the start for the Yankees. Brevard County Box Score Garrett Cooper had 3 of the 7 Manatee hits including his 26th double of the season. Jorge Ortega went 6 innings giving up 8 hits and 1 walk but only giving up the 2 runs. Trevor Seidenberger gave up 2 hits and 2 walks in his 3 innings of work. Brevard County Game Log
  14. Manatees Win on Walk-off Hit By Pitch Improbable Comeback Capped by Ratterree Hit By Pitch By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 07/18/2015 10:25 PM ET Viera, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (10-12, 39-52) overcame a five-run deficit and walked off in a 7-6 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle (13-10, 51-42) on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. Trailing by one with two outs in the ninth, Chris McFarland grounded a single to left against Dallas Gallant. Zach Jones (0-1, 9.00 ERA) came in to face Clint Coulter with two outs. Coulter singled up the middle and moved McFarland to second. After falling behind 0-2, Garrett Cooper worked a walk to load the bases. Jones then hit Taylor Brennan with a pitch to force home the tying run. On a 2-2 pitch, Jones hit Michael Ratterree to win the game for Brevard County. The Miracle scored early and often against Brevard County starter Javi Salas. Zach Granite walked to lead off the ballgame. Engelb Vielma then reached on an infield single. Mitch Garver stepped up and grounded a ball back to the mound. Salas fielded it, but his throw was off target and all runners were safe. With the bases loaded, Brett Doe lined a single up the middle and plated Granite to open the scoring. Ryan Walker then singled through the right side to plate a pair of runs. Doe advanced to third on the Walker single. Jason Kanzler lifted a sacrifice fly to center field and made it 4-0, Fort Myers. Fort Myers added another run in the second on a Granite RBI single. In the bottom of the second, Brevard County was able to get on the board. Cooper lined a base hit to right field. Brennan then drilled a double to right-center field and scored Cooper. Fort Myers starter Kohl Stewart was able to get out of the jam without any further damage. The Miracle made it 5-1 in the top of the fourth on another Granite run-scoring single. The Manatees were able to get the run right back in the bottom half of the frame. With one out, Brennan grounded a ball that went under the glove of the short stop Vielma. After Brennan reached on the error, Ratterree and Paul Eshleman walked to load the bases. Steven Halcomb then dribbled a grounder up the third base line. Stewart came off the hill, but was unable to make a barehanded play. Brennan scored on the infield single and cut the deficit to four. Salas was lifted after four innings. He surrendered six runs - five earned - on six hits and two walks. Brevard County was able to plate another run in the fifth. Omar Garcia reached on an infield single to third. Two batters later, Coulter pulled a ball through the left side of the infield. With Cooper at the plate, Garcia stole third. Cooper then hit a deep drive into right-center field. Kanzler was able to run the ball down from center, but it was plenty deep to score Garcia. Cooper's sacrifice fly made it 6-3, Miracle. The Manatees trimmed the deficit to a single run in the eighth. With one out and Corey Williams on the hill, Brennan drilled his second double of the game to right field. Ratterree singled into left-center field and plated Brennan. Ratterree advanced to second on the throw home. Williams was lifted in favor of Dallas Gallant. Gallant uncorked two consecutive wild pitches and allowed Ratterree to score. Mark Williams was brilliant in relief of Salas to keep Brevard County in the ballgame. He tossed four scoreless innings and stuck out seven men. Kaleb Earls (1-1, 3.34 ERA) tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win. Ratterree's hit by pitch marked the fifth walk-off win of the year for Brevard County. The Manatees will continue the home stand as they welcome Tampa Yankees to town tomorrow. RHP Jorge Ortega (8-5, 2.16 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Manatees. RHP Vicente Campos (0-3, 11.81 ERA) will get the start for Tampa. Brevard County Box Score The Manatees will take what they can get at this point. You have to credit Chris McFarland and Clint Coulter for helping to put pressure on the defense in the 9th. Javi Salas has been slightly off with his control lately. The game began very badly with a walk and a dribbler followed by Salas' own error on a combacker that could have been a double play. Instead of a man on 3rd and 2 outs they had the bases loaded and nobody out. Mark Williams was the key to this game with a line of: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Kaleb Earls recorded 2 strikeouts in the 9th and worked a scoreless inning to earn the win. Clint Coulter had 2 singles, Taylor Brennan 2 doubles. Omar Garcia stole his 32nd base. Brevard County Game Log Brevard County Bottom of the 9th Angel Ortega strikes out swinging. Omar Garcia grounds out, third baseman T. J. White to first baseman Brett Doe. After two innings, Fort Myers led, 5-0. Archer (1-4, 5.12 ERA) lasted just four innings in the spot start. He surrendered five runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out three.
