Not only is Lind better than Alvarez but look at Harrison: .259/.298/.387 and Hart: .200/.214/.300. Unless the Pirates get better production somehow out of 1st and 3rd, I don't see them making the playoffs. I know they don't want Alvarez back at 3rd but Harrison has been just awful.

Well Allemand has said he is being sent to Helena. Presumably Gatewood is still the priority at short. We'll see if they really see Allemand as a shortstop or where they do plan to play him.

One of the advantages of drafting these guy low is that you bar the Cubs and Cardinals (or Dodgers, Yankees, etc.) from following that strategy. -
Gronsky's Walk-Off Single Sinks Manatees Palm Beach Wins Game Two, 2-1; Sweeps Doubleheader By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 06/11/2015 10:08 PM ET Jupiter, Fla. - Jake Gronsky delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Palm Beach Cardinals (28-32) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (26-33) 2-1 in game two of Thursday's doubleheader at Roger Dean Stadium. With the game tied at one after six and a half innings, Preston Gainey (2-2, 1.05 ERA) was summoned from the bullpen as Brevard County attempted to force extra innings. Jose Godoy drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by Casey Turgeon. C.J. McElroy reached on an infield single to advance Godoy to third. After Brett Wiley walked to load the bases, the stage was set for Gronsky. Gronsky singled to center to plate Godoy and win the game for the Cardinals. Brevard County tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning. Michael Ratterree doubled to left off of Palm Beach starter Rob Kaminsky with no outs. Victor Roache then singled through the left side to score Ratterree and tie the game. Roache advanced to second on a throwing error by left fielder Derek Gibson. Kaminsky was removed in favor of Josh Lucas. After a pop out, Rafael Neda lined a single to center. Roache tried to score, but was gunned down at the plate by McElroy and the game remained tied. Neda moved to second on the throw. Lucas (3-2, 1.26 ERA) retired Angel Ortega on a fly out to end the threat. The Cardinals originally took the lead in the bottom of the second against Brevard County starter Clint Terry. Juan Herrera doubled to right to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Godoy singled to move Herrera to third. Turgeon then singled into center to open the scoring. Terry did not factor into the decision. He allowed one run on seven hits over five innings. He did not walk a man and walked six. Tristan Archer tossed a perfect sixth inning in relief. The Manatees will start a three-game series in Clearwater against the Threshers tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Bright House Field. Wei-Chung Wang (3-2 5.73 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. Victor Arano (0-7, 6.20 ERA) will get the start for Clearwater. Brevard County Box Score Game 2 Brevard County Game Log Game 2

Palm Beach Blanks Brevard County in Game One Cardinals Win First Game of Doubleheader, 3-0 By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 06/11/2015 7:33 PM ET Jupiter, Fla. - Alex Reyes and Kevin Herget combined for a five-hit shutout as the Palm Beach Cardinals (27-32) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (26-32) 3-0 in game one of Thursday's doubleheader at Roger Dean Stadium. Herget tossed the final two innings to record his second save of the year. The Cardinals took the lead early and never looked back. In the bottom of the first inning, C.J. McElroy and Brett Wiley singled consecutively with no outs to put runners on the corners. After Eric Marzec (1-4, 3.76) struck out David Washington, Derek Gibson bounced into an RBI fielder's choice to put Palm Beach in front. Palm Beach added to the lead in the sixth. With one out, Casey Turgeon reached on an infield single. Robelys Reyes then doubled down the left field line to end Marzec's night. Stephen Peterson came on in relief with runners on second and third. McElroy doubled to left to score both runners and gave the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage. Peterson retired two of the next three hitters and escaped with no further damage. Marzec surrendered three runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings. He walked one and fanned five. Gentry Fortuno: baseball Class 8A-7A-6A Player of the Year Flanagan junior pitcher Flanagan's Gentry Fortuno is the Class 8A-7A-6A baseball Player of the Year Flanagan's Gentry Fortuno is the Class 8A-7A-6A baseball Player… (Jim Rassol / Sun Sentinel ) June 3, 2014|By Steve Gorten, Sun Sentinel Several players contributed to Flanagan being ranked top-five nationally most of this high school baseball season, but the success most often stemmed from pitcher Gentry Fortuno's dominance on the mound. The junior turned in another stellar season for the Falcons before getting the first loss of his three years in the team's final game – a 5-3 loss to South Dade in the Class 8A regional finals. "He's just a phenom," said Flanagan coach Ray Evans. "It's really ridiculous what he's been able to do. And he pitches all of our big games. "Gentry is something special," Evans added. "Every time he goes out, you feel like you're going to be in position to not only be in the game, but win. And each year he's just gotten better." The overwhelming choice by Broward County coaches as the Sun Sentinel's Class 8A-7A-6A Player of the Year, Fortuno was 10-1 in 13 appearances, with six complete games – same as last year -- and two shutouts. He pitched 67 1/3 innings, striking out 76 while posting a 1.04 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. It was an impressive follow-up to his junior season when he was 9-0 with a 1.15 ERA and 85 strikeouts as a first-team all-county selection. Fortuno was at his best in key moments. He fired 14 strikeouts with no walks while allowing one earned run on five hits in a regional quarterfinal win against Miami Beach this season. He also allowed just one run in a victory against Archbishop McCarthy. Fortuno considers those his highlights. -

Senior baseball player Tyrone Perry commits to Florida State University Published January 30, 2015 | By Alexander Ortiz http://i2.wp.com/www.lakelandhighschool.com/bagpipe/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/DSC_0254edited.jpg?resize=253%2C300 DSC_0254editedThis fall, Lakeland High School senior Tyrone Perry signed to Florida State University to play baseball. He hails from Avon Park, Florida, where he excelled in baseball. Feeling the need for more exposure and competition, Perry moved to Lakeland with his sister to play baseball for the Dreadnaughts. “Avon Park plays local teams all the time; I don’t really get that much exposure,” he said. He first began playing baseball at the age of five because of his family’s history with the game. His father, who is also from Avon Park, played baseball for Avon Park High School and played short-stop. Perry and his father practiced every single day from that point on. They always worked on his weaknesses so he would improve. His dad calls him every day to make sure he is on the field practicing after school. Perry had a difficult time in the first week of school getting used to the large mass of students at LHS, a huge change from Avon Park High School’s smaller one. He, however, already knew some of the varsity baseball players he had played against throughout the years. Perry played against his current teammates, seniors Troy Brown and Troy Howe, since he was 11. Brown recently signed with University of West Florida. “I see new people every day [at Lakeland High],” Perry said. Perry went to multiple elite-level baseball camps this past summer. The intensity of the competition was immense, and he was saying that it’s so hard to compete with the other top players. The pressure of performing well at the camps can be nerve-racking for some players because scouts from Division I, II, and III schools come to carefully analyze the players. “Probably 1,000 players [go to the camps],” Perry said. DSC_0262He said that his greatest moment so far playing baseball was when he was playing in a world-wide showcase tournament in the championship game in Georgia. Perry was 16 at the time, and he was playing for Florida Travel Ball (FTB), one of the most well-known travel ball teams in Florida. FTB was down by 2 runs until Perry hit a home run to win the championship. Perry said that FSU was the school he wanted to go to from the beginning. He is currently ranked among the top 100 baseball prospects and called this, as well as the ability to join the Seminoles Baseball team next year, a blessing. He will be someone to watch this upcoming season. -

Brevard County Offense Explodes in 10-1 Victory Eight-Run Second Propels Manatees By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 06/09/2015 10:40 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/9/4/124065994/cuts/McFarland_7wookl40_gtu38cx0.JPG Chris McFarland, seen here from a game earlier this season, recorded three hits, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over Palm Beach. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) Jupiter, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (26-31) scored eight runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 10-1 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals (26-32) on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. With the game scoreless after one, Victor Roache led off the second inning with a solo homer to right field to give the Manatees a 1-0 lead. Roache now leads the Florida State League with 10 homers on the season. Garrett Cooper then reached on a throwing error by shortstop Robelys Reyes. Cameron Garfield reached on a bunt single to put two on with nobody out. Angel Ortega also bunted his way aboard. Ortega was credited with a sacrifice, but a throwing error by the first baseman Luke Voit allowed Cooper to score. Garfield moved to third and Ortega to second on the Voit miscue. Two batters later, Chris McFarland singled to center to plate both Garfield and Ortega. McFarland then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by starting pitcher Luke Weaver. It was the third error of the inning committed by Palm Beach. Taylor Brennan reached on an infield single that allowed McFarland to score. The Manatees led, 5-0, but they were far from done in the inning. Clint Coulter stepped up and drilled a double to left. Michael Ratterree then drove a two-run double into center field that brought an abrupt end to Weaver's night. Cody Schumacher came on in relief. Roache recorded his second hit of the inning when he singled to left and advanced Ratterree to third. Schumacher then uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Ratterree to score. All in all the Manatees scored eight runs on seven hits and three errors in the second. Brevard County led after two, 8-0. Palm Beach scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Brett Wiley. The Manatees answered immediately. With one out, Ratterree crushed his second double of the night. Two batters later, Cooper singled to right field to score Ratterree and gave Brevard County an eight-run cushion once again. Brevard County tacked on another run in the fifth. Ortega led off the frame with a double to left and scored on an RBI single from Brennan. Johnny Hellweg, the Brevard County starter, pitched two scoreless innings. It was his first appearance since he underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last April. The righty allowed one hit, a second-inning leadoff double by Derek Gibson. He walked one and struck out one. Jorge Ortega (5-4, 2.01 ERA) earned the win in relief. Ortega tossed five innings and surrendered just one run on three hits. He did not walk a batter and fanned three. Tyler Spurlin finished the game with two scoreless frames. Weaver (0-3, 3.38 ERA) was hit with the loss. He recorded just one out in the second and gave up eight runs - only one earned - on seven hits. The Manatees had 17 hits in the ballgame and all nine starters recorded a base knock. Seven Brevard County batters recorded multi-hit games. McFarland led the charge with three hits, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base. The Manatees had seven extra-base hits. Coulter and Ratterree each smacked two doubles. The Manatees and Cardinals will continue the series tomorrow night at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Eric Marzec (1-3, 3.43 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Manatees. RHP Alex Reyes (1-4, 2.17 ERA) will start for the Cardinals. Brevard County Box Score Luke Weaver was a 2014 first round pick for the Cardinals. Nice. Everybody but Cameron Garfield and Omar Garcia had at least 2 hits. Joge Ortega picks up where he left off. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2015_06_09_breafa_pbcafa_1&t=g_log&sid=t503

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, the Brevard County offense exploded for a four-run frame. Cameron Garfield singled on a liner to center to lead things off. Garcia moved up to second on the hit. Taylor Brennan then doubled to left to tie the game at two. With runners on second and third, Clint Coulter doubled home both McFarland and Brennan. The Manatees led, 4-2. The Manatees scored three more in the sixth. Garrett Cooper doubled to left to leadoff the frame. McFarland finished 3-for-5 on the night with a run scored and two RBI. He also recorded his 11th stolen base of the season. The Manatees and Cardinals will continue the series tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Javi Salas continues a strong season. Good day for Chris McFarland as mentioned above. Always feels good to beat the Cardinals. Brevard County Game Log

Your 2015 Brevard County Manatees
WV Brew replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Preston Gainey could have got in. Not many relief pitchers were put on the team though. Compare him to Alberto Tirado: ERA: Tirado 1.77, Gainey 0.71, BAA: Tirado .231, Gainey .172, WHIP: Tirado 1.21, Gainey 0.68. Tirado did have more innings pitched and maybe that makes the difference. -
I predict the Brewers take Aiken followed by a low ball offer below slot value in order to get an extra pick next year.

Scooter is at .806 OPS while Sardinas was .710 at Colorado Springs. Sardinas is OPSing .476 with the Brewers. Of course, Sardinas is quicker and has a stronger arm. His defense is better. If you look at their respective hitting stats, Gennett wins every time. True, he had a horrible start to the year but Sardinas isn't doing any better. Odd makeup of the Manatees now. They have 5 outfielders and 3 catchers but only one extra infielder. I would think that has to be fixed at some point. -

Murphy Dazzles in Game Two; Dunedin wins, 5-0 Blue Jays Blank Brevard to Earn Doubleheader Split By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 06/07/2015 12:59 AM ET Viera, Fla. - Murphy Smith tossed a complete game shutout as the Dunedin Blue Jays (24-32) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (24-31) in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Space Coast Stadium. Smith (3-3, 3.06 ERA) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Omar Garcia lined a two-out single to center. Overall, Smith allowed just three hits and a walk. He struck out 11 in his seven-inning, complete game shutout. With the game tied at zero, Dunedin exploded for four runs in the sixth. Martin Medina singled off of Tristan Archer to leadoff the frame. Two batters later, Roemon Fields singled to center to end Archer's night. Kaleb Earls was summoned from the bullpen. Both Fields and Lopes scored to give Dunedin a 3-0 lead. Davis advanced to second on the play and then scored on L.B. Dantzler's RBI single. Archer (1-2, 2.66 ERA) was hit with the loss in his first start of the season. He allowed two runs on five hits and one walk in 5.1 innings. Ratterree, Manatees Walk Off in Game One Ratterree's First Hit as a Manatee Lifts Brevard By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees 06/07/2015 12:57 AM ET Viera, Fla. - Michael Ratterree's first hit at Space Coast Stadium was a walk-off home run as the Brevard County Manatees (24-30) defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays (23-32) 3-2 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. With the game tied at two in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ratterree launched a solo home run to left-center field to win the game for Brevard County. It was Ratterree's first hit and home run in a Manatees' uniform. Justin Shafer (1-5, 8.69) surrendered the extra-innings blast. The Manatees forced extras by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh off of Alberto Tirado. Omar Garcia drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by Angel Ortega. Back-to-back errors by the Blue Jays allowed the tying run to score. First, Chris McFarland reached on a fielder's choice and a throwing error by Shafer to move runners to second and third. Then, Taylor Brennan reached on a fielding error by Dawel Lugo. Garcia scored and McFarland moved to third. Shafer retired Clint Coulter and Victor Roache to keep the game tied. Dunedin had taken a one-run lead in the top of the seventh when L.B. Dantzler blasted a solo homer off of Preston Gainey. That was the only hit that Gainey (2-1, 0.71 ERA) allowed it 2.2 innings. Brevard County starter Wei-Chung Wang did not factor into the decision. He allowed one run on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Wang did not walk a batter and fanned four. The lone run against Wang scored on a first-inning RBI double by Matt Dean. The first Brevard run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth. Steven Halcomb was hit by a pitch with no outs. After an Ortega sac bunt, McFarland singled to center to plate Halcomb. Ratterree's home run was the fourth walk-off hit of the year and second walk-off home run of the season for Brevard County. Brevard County Box Score Lot of hard throwers in this game. Blue Jays' starter Jeff Hoffman was the Jays number one pick last year and 9th overall. He is coming back from Tommy John surgery and has a limited pitch count. He was hitting up to 98. Clint Coulter had two hits off him which were the only hits he gave up. Someone asked about Preston Gainey's velocity a while back. He was hitting 97 a couple of times in this game. The Jays 7th inning home run off Gainey came with two outs and two strikes. The tying run in the bottom of the 7th came as a gift to the Manatees with a walk, sacrifice bunt and two errors. Garrett Cooper had his hitting streak ended. Brevard County Game Log -
