  1. Carolina 1, Myrtle Beach 0 Roegner, Ortega, Brown and Barker Blank Birds in 1-0 Win Weston Wilson brought in and scored the only run of the game after hitting a home run in the second Cam Roegner went 5 innings and is now up to 108 innings after just 78 last year. This was the first chance I have gotten to see Jorge Ortega pitch. It looked like he was throwing a cutter but it could have been a little slider I guess. He produced a very Jorge like line with no runs, no walks and no strikeouts. Daniel Brown and Luke Barker finished the shutout. Weston Wilson just keeps on truckin' in July. OPS for July now up to 1.153 for the month and his season's batting average is now over .270. 2. Carolina 6, Myrtle Beach 5 McInerney and Mudcats Walk-Off Pelicans 6-5 The Mudcats walked-off the Pelicans for second time in three games on Wednesday Pat McInerney hasn't hit much at Carolina but he seems to be coming around a little bit. He had three straight games with a double within the past week and here he gets the winning hit. It wasn't cheap either. It was a rocket into the left field corner. Credit Phil Bickford and Alec Kenilvort for keeping the game close enough for the bats to come around. Victor Diaz with a rather mediocre outing. Weston Wilson and Cooper Hummel are near the top of the Carolina League in OPS for July. Another fine game for those two. Mario Feliciano's only hit was a blast to right center that scored the tying run in the 9th. Victor Diaz: 4 2/3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 5 K Phil Bickford: 2 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Alec Kenilvort: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K Weston Wilson: 3-4, BB Cooper Hummel: 2-4, 2B, BB Ryan Aguilar: 1-2, 3 BB Carolina Box Score Carolina Game Log Here's your winning rally down by one run: Carolina Bottom of the 9th Demi Orimoloye grounds out, second baseman Yeiler Peguero to first baseman Jared Young. 3. Carolina 5, Myrtle Beach 4 Myrtle Beach 2, Carolina 0 Cats and Birds Split Tuesday Twin-Bill Devin Hairston delivered a walk-off single in the eighth in Carolina's game one victory The Mudcats came from behind three times before scoring the final two runs in the extra frame. A two run gopher ball yielded by Luke Barker put the Mudcats in a two run deficit before the Mudcats scored two of their own with 2 outs in the last inning. With two outs and nobody on, Demi Orimoloye singled, Weston Wilson doubled and Cooper Hummel came up with the tying single to drive in both runners. Devin Hairston then got the winning hit in the eighth. As mentioned, Conor Harber went 6 innings giving up only 1 run in a losing cause. Demi Orimoloye had the only two Mudcat hits. 4. Carolina 5, Lynchburg 0 (suspended in the 6th inning) Mudcats and Hillcats Suspended on Monday Night The Mudcats had a 5-0 lead in the sixth before Monday's game was stopped due to rain This game was suspended with the Mudcats in the midst of a 5 run sixth inning. It will be completed at a later date with the venue changed to Zebulon. Braden Webb pitched five shutout innings. Weston Wilson was two for three. The Mudcats were aided in the 6th by one of my pet peeves in baseball. A team tries to give you an out and you won't take it. Twice in the 6th the Mudcats laid down a sacrifice bunt and the Hillcats failed to record an out. 5. Carolina 6, Lynchburg 5 Mudcats Survive 6-5 Marathon Victory in Lynchburg The Mudcats batted through a 3 hour and :48 minute game on Sunday night Alec Kenilvort came in after Devin Williams reached his pitch limit and threw just 8 pitches, 6 for strikes, before the rain came. He didn't get credit for facing even one hitter. After the rain, Nathan Kirby finished the strikeout. Daniel Brown was the hero in this game with three scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts. Joantgel Segovia reached base 5 times with a pair of walks to go with his three hits. 6. Lynchburg 6, Carolina 5 Bullpen Wastes Three Run Eighth Inning Lead in 6-5 Loss in Lynchburg Pat McInerney went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI single in the loss Cam Roegner pitched a shutout for 5 innings but Jorge Ortega did not have a good debut with Carolina. Nattino Diplan ended up with the loss when he wild pitched in the winning run. Pat McInerney has now doubled in each of the last two games. This one hit the wall in the opposite field. The Mudcats had only Devin Hairston, who they didn't want to play due to a sore shoulder, and Mario Feliciano available on the bench. Mudcats hitters struck out 15 times in this game. 7. Weston Wilson at shortstop today. I wasn't expecting that! Nick Roscetti had a couple of errors there yesterday and Devin Hairston is out at the moment. So Wilson has played everything except centerfield and catcher.
  8. There is not a whole lot of difference in his left/right splits. However, Lorenzo Cain is significantly better against lefties and isn't getting any younger. They could ease Ray in as a platoon guy with occasional play at the corners.

Alec Bettinger worked the first three innings striking out 4 while walking none while giving up one earned run. Conor Harber then pitched the next five innings with 5 strikeouts versus only one walk. Luke Barker yielded the tying run in the 9th on a two out single. Nattino Diplan got the win in relief working both extra innings. Weston Wilson pounded out a couple more hits. 12. Carolina 5, Winston-Salem 3 Hummel Hits Go-Ahead Blast in Eighth in 5-3 Home Win Cooper Hummel went 3-for-4 with a go-ahead homer in the eighth and two RBI A pair of two run home runs by Weston Wilson and Cooper Hummel provided most of the damage for the Mudcats. The other run came in as a result of a two out hit-and-run single by Devin Hairston with runners on first and third. The Mudcats tried to score Joantgel Segovia from first on that play despite the fact that the ball was just past the infield. Segovia was thrown out at the plate. As luck would have it, Dallas Carroll tripled to lead off the next inning. Braden Webb didn't give up a hit until the third inning. He eventually yielded two earned runs over six innings while striking out six. Daniel Brown and Luke Barker finished the game out. 17. Carolina 3, Lynchburg 2 Mudcats End Three Game Skid With 3-2 Home Win Demi Orimoloye went 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Mudcats defeated the Hillcats 3-2 A quality start by Conor Harber, who went six innings, and shutout relief by Nattino Diplan and Luke Barker led to the Mudcat victory. Barker now has 45 strikeouts versus only 9 walks and has posted a WHIP of 0.87 after having a 1.20 at Wisconsin last year. The winning run came on a sacrifice pop-up by Ryan Aguilar. The fly was only around 10 paces past the infield but the centerfielder was so surprised that Dallas Carroll would run on it that he double clutched and then threw home wildly. 18. Lynchburg 9, Carolina 7 Wilson Tallies Three Hits and Three Runs in 9-7 Loss to Lynchburg Weston Wilson went 3-for-3 with three runs and ran his hit streak to 13 straight games This was a real clunker thrown by Braden Webb. He especially had trouble with left handed hitters in the part I watched so I looked up his splits. On the year he is actually better against lefties than righties so maybe nothing in that. Alec Kenilvort and Daniel Brown finished the game for the Mudcats. Weston Wilson and Cooper Hummel had multi-hit games. Pat McInerney drew 3 walks but has not hit much so far at this level.
